"Next week, the Council of Europe is going to vote on a resolution imposing Darwinism as Europe's official ideology."

Nope, that's not a joke...

From the Brussels Journal:

"While many in the West still idolize the second-hand fighters for free speech, such as [Ayaan] Hirsi Ali and Theo van Gogh, the true victims of curtailment are deliberately kept under wraps. Hirsi Ali, [Pim] Fortuyn and Theo van Gogh were not curtailed by the state or by court, [anti-abortion pastor] Johannes Lerle is.

"The former voiced mere opinions -- expressions of a public opinion which one may or may not value or believe. The latter -- Dr Lerle -- shows that what is at stake is not merely opinions, but a moral order which is being questioned; a reality of life and death which is at risk.

"Hirsi Ali, Fortuyn and van Gogh did not defend Europe's traditional Christian moral order. People such as Johannes Lerle and Christian Vanneste, the French parliamentarian who was convicted for 'homophobia,' do. The latter are being persecuted by Western Europe's political regimes -- a phenomenon which is ignored completely by the Western mainstream media, who participate in the persecution."

"According to the Council of Europe these theories [young earth, intelligent design] are 'undemocratic and 'a threat to human rights.'"

Belief that we are created is a threat to our human "rights"?

The opposite is true.

If we are the product of mindless, undirected processes rather than intelligent design, we have neither purpose nor worth and are no better or important than a slug.

Nor is it possible that there be an objectively true moral order, and a destructive, lethal society is just as valid as one that values and protects life.

Without God, "human rights" are nothing more than the self-flattering delusion of highly evolved pond scum.

Once more the term progressive becomes more of an oxymoron.

This excerpt (written by Jim Fedako) isn't quite on-topic, but it does cohere with the statism that's being grown in Europe - and it makes a point that's relevant to our own situation.

"Certainly, I should have known better. But, how can anyone know every law, rule, and regulation? Just miles from the Italian border and apparent freedom, Swiss police stopped me for not having an autobahn tax sticker on the windshield of the car I was renting. That I rented the car in Paris did not satisfy the policeman. I had to pay the €70 fine; cash only.

"This incident shows why people instinctively fear the government official. Even if you are truly conscientious, there is no way to know all of the millions of laws that are on the books. Each of us intuitively knows that we are guilty of some offense, no matter how silly. Whether it's blowing a whistle while riding a bike in Ohio, or traveling the Swiss highways without the proper sticker, we are all guilty of some offense, somewhere. And, it's the arbitrary application of the whims of officials that gets you every time."

I aver that this fear will only increase now that Social Darwinism is being pushed in the EU. Christianity preaches caritas, or having some thought for the other person and acting accordingly. Present-day Social Darwinism doesn't, except in a strained form.

M. Ball demonstrates an interesting argument against science over the supernatural. The latter can exploit superstition to help protect society from those who might reach dangerous conclusions based on a series of false syllogisms.

Typical leftard tolerance.

All the retards have done is replace one state religion with another. Fools.

Clearly a regime change is in order. Clearly the eurotrash are too far gone to demand one. So much for land of the enlightenment.

I guess the only constant is change. The world's cultural centre will move again.

I always try to put things in a Canadian perspective, and my kids school that I mention ad nauseum is abundant with the examples. The principal scalded me for using 'military language' while discussing a violent assault on my son. But it is the school policy to line up the students according to the assigned number and punish them for standing in the line any other way. It is also a policy to issue them passes in order to be anywhere outside of the class - in the hall (a hall pass is required), in the library (library pass) or in the washroom (washroom pass). I pointed out that she established a concentration camp policy, but she thinks that it is for the safety of the students.

People, they are here, they are taking our freedoms away not thru repression, but thru destruction of personalities of our children. It's time to purge the socialists from education before it's too late!

The architects of statism would rather have you worship at the altar of human rights, rather than the altar of Jesus Christ.

How about this?

My freedom of thought belief and opinion doesn't need state authorization. I might as well be living in China or the former East Germany for that matter.

If you express an opinion that is pro-life; this is not state authorized speech. What utter balderdash!

Perhaps Angela Merkel should look into this nonsense; as she should know better having lived under the communist East German regime.

The lesson the human rights tribunals are trying to promulgate ist zis:

Alles ov you free zinkings peeples must nur zink ze thoughts of ze Vaterland. Ozzervise you vill hav a little nacht visit vrom ze frendly Polizei.

Aaron, we chose independent schools for our children to avoid that sort of mentality. Once you surrender your liberty to government bureacracy you commit to mediocrity. Just returned from Vancouver and saw a few examples: the deterioration of van Dusen gardens by city unions who bar volunteers from maintaining a high gardening standard, the noticeably inferior greens a civic lawn bowling venues, which are tended by unions, and the unavailability of private nude swimming parties at civic pools because of the collective bargaining agreement covering lifeguards.

The EROWEENIE UNION one step foward ten steps back toward liberal igorance now i,ll bet they will want to replace pictures of christ with pictures of chimps saying MEET YOUR ANCESTORS in fact even chuckie darwin had some dobpts

Aaron-"they" are not taking freedoms away from us. Rather "we" are allowing them to be taken away from us.

It is our duty to speak up-I mean, on an individual basis-stop worrying what everybody else is NOT doing.

Our society in North America is following in the footsteps of Europe which is falling apart. WE have become politically apathetic which is why democracy eventually fails and socialism flourishes.

I highly recommend these books by Bruce Bauer "While Europe Slept" AND Bill O'Reilly's "Culture Warrior".

False, Mary-Jane. My family is fighting. But how much two little boys and their parents can achieve when everyone else is compliant/complacent?

Everyone else seems to be fine with their children having to show a pass just to go to the bathroom.

You will be the first to scream 'Jail that criminal!' if I was to take matters into my own hands.

Communism never went away, it just took on a different form. Of course the new communists must attempt to abolish the Creator, in order for the new communist man to take his place - and to futher the legislation of thought.

However, given the Physicists on-going problems with the Singularity and the conclusions as to what it may be, as well as recent discoveries in DNA, including the correct application of Zipf's language law to so-called 'junk' DNA - the European idiots may be pushed to centre stage for all to point fingers at and mock.

Meanwhile Spain and Germany are still considering extending human rights to apes.

It's odd that the European Union feels it necessary to legislate Darwinism. Science doesn't work that way. The theory of evolution was provisional, subject to testing. The fact that the theory has survived all the tests strengthens its probability but doesn't make it true. It is still open to debate.

On the the other hand, the rejection of Creationism and Intelligent Design makes sense. They are the equivalent of false advertising being neither supported by evidence nor giving any reasonable explanation of the development of species. Perhaps the story is backwards and it is not Darwinism being legislated but the teaching of fantasy prohibited.

Without God, "human rights" are nothing more than the self-flattering delusion of highly evolved pond scum.

Judging by a couple of thousand years of human behavior, pond scum is the more likely.

But don't worry about a paganistic Europe, their move to Darwinism will soon be replaced with a permanent move back to god. Allah to be specific.

Now do you feel better? Whose to say that one god isn't as good as another? A supernatural being is a supernatural being.

Too bad, Darwinism makes more sense. i doubt there would ever be a jihad by Darwinists or even mission around the world to convert the pagans. It's also too bad the it's the secular progressive types who rally around Darwinism. If it wasn't for that I might support it too.

As it is I am much more comfortable around Christians. Other than the god thing they make much more sense to me than the Darwinist Seculars.

Pigs Granted Amnesty on "The Animal Farm"

The French Conseil d’Etat, the highest administrative court in France, forbids private charities from distributing pork soup to the homeless. On Friday night the high court ruled that offering soup containing pork meat or lard is an act of racism because some of the homeless might be Muslims or Jews whose religion forbids the consuming of pork. The court said distributing pork soup threatens public order because it could spark angry reactions.

The Conseil d’Etat overruled last Tuesday’s decision by a Paris court of first instance that private charities are allowed to distribute whatever soup they please. Last December, the Paris police had issued a prohibition on the distribution to the homeless of “soupe au cochon” (pork soup), a traditional French dish, since some people in need might not be allowed to eat pork.

The heading for this post is not quite correct. If you go to the CoE website, you will find that the report was sent back to the committee.

There were times when Earth was considered flat by the scientific establishment, the legislature of the time supported that notion, and the dissenters found themselves comfortably chained to a pole in the middle of burning firewood. Is that a too far fetched analogy?

"...offering soup containing pork meat or lard is an act of racism..."

So offering pork soup to a starving individual is racist, but denying whitey access to jobs/colleges based on affirmative action programs is OK.

More leftard logic in the march towards "equality for some"

Lord, it must be tough to be a right winger. One day you pee your pants in front of the Muslim hordes that you feel are over-running Europe. Next you quake at the creeping influence of secular humanisisim, again, in Europe. And I understand, the communists have never really gone away. And always there is the mantra on here "Bigotry! Intolerance! Ignorance! Death to those that are different!"

Time to wash the bathrobe and emerge from mom's basement.

Evolution is a fact how it works is a theory.

There should be no dispute about that.

Natural Selection is the best explanation that we humans have so far, and has the greatest evidence.

Don, a small correction: the left wingers pee in their pants. The right wingers reload.

"...offering soup containing pork meat or lard is an act of racism..."

As Marie Antoinette once said,"S'ils n'ont plus de cochon, qu'ils mangent de la brioche." Or something like that.

@Jim and Aaron:

Legislating science has been done before - and no, I'm not referring to Lysenkoism. The Ptolmeaic theory of celestial mechanics was, believe it or not, a scientific theory with a core hypothesis that was plausible in its time. The Roman Catholic Church put the holy stamp on it.

"There were times when Earth was considered flat by the scientific establishment"

This may be a myth. The Greeks knew the world was round and Eratothenes even measured the circumference.

daniel - the church promotion of Ptolemy's theory wasn't a legislation of science. You can't legislate a scientific theory as 'ideology' because science is, by definition, fallible. If it isn't fallible and open to refutation, then it isn't science.

As for Natural Selection - actually, recent research is casting strong doubts on the robustness of both random mutation and natural selection as the key causal forces in evolution and adaptation. Life, it seems, is more complex.

Besides, relying on random mutation to change one's interactions with the env't is like relying on the Lottery to pay the mortgage. The mortage, unlike the Lottery Winning Number, is real. So, new research is suggesting that organisms don't rely on randomness to come up with helpful solutions - and Natural Selection is just a secondary affirmation of the Best Solution that has already been chosen.

ANIMAL FARM the tyranical pigs are making all the other animals do their bidding and the pigs are in charge at the UN as well

@ET: You called attention to a point that I slipped around. I was using common-sensical de facto reasoning, rather than de jure, with respect to medieval legalities. Formally, the Church only had the power to excommunicate a communicant and hand him/her over to the secular arm. What happened afterwards was under the purview of Lord and/or Sovereign. So were the political laws as opposed to the body of canon law.

(You could date the Reformation at the point when the Church excommunicated Martin Luther and handed him over to the secular arm...which took him in.)

As far as your point about it being impossible to legislate science: we know it now, but the modern scientific method wasn't around during medieval times. Formally, you've won the point because there was no "science" as we know it during those times. The argument you made would have been all-but-incomprehensible back then.

(The closest theory to scientific method they had back then was the Church-approved Occam's Razor. Ironically, it was the Razor that Galileo was counting on to keep him in the fold.)

"Lord, it must be tough to be a right winger. One day you pee your pants in front of the Muslim hordes that you feel are over-running Europe. An example of the typical leftist who doesn't post an intelligent counter argument, rather, he flings invective, insults and rage. Where have we seen this before?

Is it the twisted song sheet, or is it a rotting affliction of the mind?

In any case, poor thing.

Don of the "I've written two really bad novels. But that's what happens when you have the unfortunate combination of lusty bar wenches with werewolves", you've passed through here before.

From the style of your comments, I'm getting a sense of just how bad those novels must have been. Question: Did you write them in mom's basement in a bathrobe?

HITLER USED EVOLUTION TO JUSTIFI HIS PERSICUTION OF THE JEWS THE HOLICAST IS DARWINS FUALT

Just think of it, this is an example of what Germans call a conservative government. It's such a shame Europeans are so far ahead of North America thinking. While they move humanity forward, we are moving in reverse. Canadians should be emulating European rather than American ideologies.
