As I'm in Texas at the moment, I guess this could be considered local content.
John Hawkins emails;
I've got a scoop from a Senate aide on the behind-the-scenes maneuvering in the Senate that killed the immigration bill yesterday. You may want to check it out to see why every conservative who opposed the bill owes a big debt of gratitude to Jim DeMint.

Where in Texas are you? I thought I felt a disturbance in the canuckforce. ;-)
BTW, Do you want to buy a Z-Visa... cheap???
I've also got to belive that Ron Paul taking the issue public in the candidate's debates and seeing the issue resinate heavily with both moderate GOP and Dem voters has something to do with it also...although we are thankful for anyone pulling the mechanics to make it happen....
now what?...how do you get them back where they belong?
The defeat of this immigration bill is very significant.
I was beginning to think that there were simply not enough people left in the USA who had the courage to defeat this bill in the face of such a humongous lobby - much of it that was based on playing the racism card.
Kudos to all of those who prevailed and brought about the defeat of this bill. Perhaps now, the two border guards in jail will gain some well deserved support.
Hopefully some of this courage will be found in Canadians to push back on unreasonable accommodation.
I am fine with reasonable accommodation - it is inevitable - however, our current mode of extreme political correctness has to be mitigated.
There is a second by-election going on in eastern Alberta on Tues. The first 5 callers into Rutherford (talk show) asking for input from this riding are supporting an independent candidate who supports an independent Alberta. Could be interesting!
Any chances of getting Jim DeMint up here to Canukistan in time for the next election? The gliberal bottom-feeders will be pandering to the 'wetback vote'- not to mention all those 'immigration lawyers',(who are running out of HIV-infected 'refugees', to shovel into this country at taxpayers expense.)
Hey folks,
This topic is often discussed along with many others that would be of great interest to SDA fans.

You can listen on line or hit the archives anytime for a commercial free installation of the daily show.
Dennis Miller is a great wit and comic whose politics changed when the towers came down. He is very polite a moderate but brilliant in his take on various political situations of the day.
You can also download and ipod his stuff for a listen on the go.
There are many right wing pundits on the airwaves, but none so entertaining and listener friendly than Dennis.
Give it a go. He just did an interview with DeMint on Thursdays installation.
I hope you don't mind this plug Kate. Your entertaining scribble has some of the same attraction as DM's rants.
Yanni is right. I bought a premium sub to the Dennis Miller podcast a week after the show's debut and look forward to it every morning. Great high level political guests, funny "inside showbiz" stories, sports if that's you're bag, a co-host that actually contributes something to the show, etc. They already have more than 100 affiliates which is an amazing feat for a brand new show. I hear he is taking a lot of listeners away from Rush with whom he competes in some markets.
Is Miller a bit too Objectivist for me? Sure, but he's not in your face about it and I think he's wavering a bit on that front anyway (I mean, the guy IS 53 years old now...)
Anyway I think you can still listen to parts of the show for free.
This is over for now, but it may not be completely over yet.

I grew up with Dan Bartlett and some days I just want to throttle him (how? from Edmonton? I don't know, but still) and make him slap some sense into the President, since apparently he is one of the few people who can speak hard truths to the man.
I also got a premium Dennis Miller sub right away and I love it - download it on the iPod, take it anywhere. If you liked him at all on Saturday Night Live or doing comedy or his TV shows, you'll love his radio show. If you didn't like those - well, give the radio show a try, anyway. It's eclectic, to say the least. And he has Mark Steyn on a LOT.
Hope you're having a good time in the Lone Star State, Kate!
Meg the friendly Texan in Edmonton
Near Houston? I would be delighted to buy you a drink.
This will have the liberals and the illegal alein supporters yelling like stuck pigs
What I find amazing is how a true democratic government works. Not like ours; no negotiation, just fake debate, no behind the scenes deals. Our Liberal and PC PM's told their lackeys what they would do and when; the MP's we the people voted for, having no power whatsoever. Everything decided in the PM's office by unelected yes misters. And a Senate...? What can I say?
