from wacky to insane, May wants to impose a 12cent per litre tax on gas. While many Canadians are furious over & struggling with soaring gas prices this lunatic wants to up it even more. Will canadians agree, I doub't it.
What i do not understand, instead of asking the Prime Minister to steal her idea why is she not imploring her Mentor Dion to adopt her economy decimating gas tax lunacy.
Simply Out to Lunch
Not to worry. The ghg in Canada is now so thick because of Harper's inaction Lizzie knows she will float slowly to the ground, as if diving into a swimming pool.
"The reality is the position Mr. Harper is taking at the G8 summit right now, should other countries listen to him, we would have a global disaster," she said.
"...we need A New Energy Revolution to Avert Global Catastrophe."
Why is it that those on the left are always on about REVOLUTION?
According to one email I received the other day the Al Qaedists are recommending nuking some seven metropolitan cities in the US.
It appears we have all the revolution North America needs.
Certainly nuking cities is still AGW (Anthropogenic Global Warming).
I rather suspect that nuking cities is really known as Accelerated Global Warming or AGW. This of course would buttress Elizabeth May's case of Harper making "appeasement with Hitler", should PMSH sign a deal with Osama Bin Laden.
Thus far this has not happened.
Further she has stated:
"Please steal these ideas," May urged Harper.
Of course we have had quite enough of stealing in Canada lately, with Adscam, Referendum scam, RCMP pension scam, HRDC, Gun Registry, Option Canada, add your favorite rip off, etc.
Elizabeth please keep your hand out of Canadians picked pockets as we have had quite enough.
If you believe Carbon is a bad thing and causing harm then you tax it like you tax cigarettes...if Canadians really think we should do this then elect a Green Party as the government.
Actually didnt Mr Dion effectovely make the Green party and Liberal party one....maybe he thinks we should do this.
But I agree with her on one point only, if you think Carbon is a bad bad thing then you tax it because regulating it is just too damn expensive to do.
I just dont happen to think this is the problem people say it is.
Eco-libs like taxes, they hate the fact that the oil companies are making more money, they think that money should be grabbed in the form of taxes, sin taxes make all liberals moan in exstacy.
hmmmmm sounds like a winning election plank . . lets all vote to increase taxes.
Should suck lotsa votes outta the Liberal & NDP Warm-ongers so they can prove they want to save the world and make it very hot for Steffi to try and keep up with the Greeny-Weenies.
We are already paying billions of dollars in taxes directly and indirectly on the use of fossil fuels. Where is that money going now and where is the assurance that any 'new' taxes will not end up in the same black hole of general revenue?
Tied or dedicated taxation for politicians of any stripe is anathema- the end of the world as they know it. They will never give up the power to determine which dollar gets spent where, regardless of where that dollar is raised.
It is not the fault of the fossil fuel industry that the billions (trillions worldwide?) raised in the production, transportation, refining and consumption of fossil fuels does not get spent on mitigating whatever harm the use of fossil fuels do.
Apparently Elizabeth May is a "riches to rags" story. Wikipedia:"A failed family retail venture meant that May had to withdraw from university to help support her parents."

Apparently Elizabeth May is a "riches to rags" story. Wikipedia:"A failed family retail venture meant that May had to withdraw from university to help support her parents."

"We need carbon taxes," Green Party Leader Elizabeth May proclaimed"
Lizzie, you are welcome to attempt a one and a half gainer from up there,if you wish.
As a construction contractor, may I just mention that every time the price of fuel goes up, it costs me a lot of money, and I have to try to pass it on to the client. Bicycling with 36 foot ladders and a thousand pounds of equipment makes it a bit difficult.
It's called inflationary, you stupid, well meaning twit.
Even if Kyoto is enacted 100% by all countries its not prejected to reduced the increase in temperature by much more than 10% - in essence nothing will change.
So what's the big deal? The disaster is still going to happen Kyoto or not.
Typical leftie thinking. Just tax user and the oil companies because they are all making SO Much money.
If they only would learn the difference between profits vs. return on capital maybe they wouldn't be so quick to judge.
A brief synopsis on accounting, there are operating costs (day-to-day expenses) and capital costs (long-term investments in equip. etc.). All we ever hear about is the exhorbitant profits Imperial, PetroCanada et al make, nobody discusses how much money these companies had to expend to get there.
As an investor we all want a way to turn $1 into $2, if you invest in an oil company there return on capital means you are more likely to turm a $1 into a $$1.04, not exactly what we all want. Before you call me any names, remember the two biggest institutional investors in Canada are UNION Pension Funds (Ont. Teachers & Ont. Municipal Employees)
So Lizzie go ahead and tax all you want, but when Freedom 55 becomes Freedom God Knows When don't come crying to me.
Always thought she was over the top, doubt she has the guts to actually go over the cliff.
It seems so wacko to look around this land, lush with trees and greenery and teeming with wildlife to be getting steamed up on the environment. We can drive for miles on the trans Canada and see no people, just forest and wildlife.
Pollution is a problem in large urban and industrialized areas and can through technology be cleaned up. That's it. No bloody way should we send money for something called carbon credits to China or anywhere. It does nothing to clean up environmental pollution, it increases it and enables them to continue to pollute.
Kyoto is the biggest freaking scam in the history of the planet. Money grab plain and simple and Lizzie wants to tax gas even more? Maybe she should take a leap over the cliff.
Here's a quick comment/question. I heard someone on the radio talking about ghg emmissions and Canada. He pointed out what Canada's ghg emmissions are, but then pointed out that a lot of these are offset by our large forested areas across the country.
Perhaps someone has the knowlede to figure out what percentage is offset.
Since the only really significant green house gas is water vapour, the forests are both offsetters and contributors. The contribution of CO2 to any greenhouse gas effect is trivial, and human greenhouse gase emissions are a fraction of even that.
Is May actually suggesting Canada, at 2% of total worldwide anthropogenic CO2 emissions, should increase energy costs 10% in one fell swoop. Typical lefty, let's destroy economic activity, that would be good for environment. Let's look at Russia for their stellar record. Or the permanent pollution cloud around Bejing (oh yeah, at least it's not CO2, just deadly carbon monoxide, lead, radon, etc).
Noticed opposition parties are panning her move. Why, because it's was too early for any of opposition to come "clean" as to costs of Kyoto, and therefore refuse to issue their "plan" until they get needed cover from MSM in a short election campaign. Go for it folks, you haven't got a chance. All this vote will be shared/fought over by Green, Grit, Bloc and Dippers.
Another gift to Mr Harper, who knows he has majority, if he plays his cards right, with new set of priorities and paucity of any leadership from left in this country, which their platitudes about sustainibility, or as May says, how we (Canada?) can "keep" temperatures from rising above 2 celsius. Oh I forgot, God sent her on this mission to save the world, because it "has a fever."
Even the Toronto/Ottawa MSM cabal can't save this bunch.
Next up: How Lizzie would have prevented the extinction of species, namely dinosaurs, if only evolution had made it possible for the assent of man to have begun just a few hundred million years earlier. I'm impressed.
Want to really increase the 'cool aid' intake amongst the left handed mastabatory euphoria groups?
Tell them the good news - and the bad news.
The good news: A new technology has been discovered that will counter, and even negate AGW, maybe even reduce climate temps by at least 20 degrees it is claimed!!!
Tha bad news? It was discovered by Shell Oil.
Now there goes the world supply of cool aid for the next couple of years!!!
Elizabeth May has really gone over the deep end. Does she really believe that Canadians want to pay 12c more per litre for gas at a time when many are complaining about the soaring gas prices? Does she not realize that the 10% increase in the price of gas will cause price increases in many other sectors of the Canadian economy?
Funniest thing I've read in a long while, was Green Jerry's response to an eco-freak over at the G&M.The 'freak' was supporting Lizzie's tax,and arguing that costs for other items wouldn't be affected.First time I have almost peed my pants laughing in a long while:
Green Jerry:"You dullards that think this is a great idea won't think it's so great, once the price of everything you freaks buy goes thru the roof. That's right, your bongs, folk music cd's,Birkenstocks, fair trade coffee, spoken word poetry tickets made out of recycled newspaper tampons, deodorant rocks, jiffy markers for sniffing and making placards, hemp clothing, secondary bongs, veggie burgers, are all going to cost more.
Also,tie dyed T shirts,sleeping bags,lice shampoo,hash pipes,Visine,roach clips...
Now,is that not funny..yet sadly true??
There's nothing stopping the likes of May, Suzuki and their groupies from voluntarily sending their money to the cause. Leave the rest of us out of it.
How cum ? Why have some politicos become so stupid the last decade or so.
This, from one who was in power a short time ago, is so refreshing. Times were simpler then. And more sane. And the media had not 'dumbed-down' to Tabloid level yet.
[Former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt called for an end to the "hysteria" over global warming in the lead-up to the summit. The topic is "hysterical, overheated, and that is especially because of the media," Schmidt told Germany's Bild daily. There has always been climate change on earth, Schmidt said. "We've had warm- and ice-ages for hundreds of thousands of years," he said, and added that the reasons behind the multiple climate changes have been "inadequately researched for the time being." To assume that global climate change can be altered by any plans made at the Heiligendamm summit is "idiotic," he said.

Your urging comes a little late, you synaptically-challenged political opportunist. In Pythonesque fashion, Harper has already negotiated the price for his political virtue. Unfortunately, he thought it was a Dutch auction.
12 cents is going to make a difference??? The price of gas went up 24 cents at my local pump over the last two months and nobody stopped driving. And if you raise the taxes on my gas but lower it on my income as she proposes, they cancel each other out. I'll have more money to pay the extra cost for the gas, so why would I use less??? What has she been smoking???
May's impending electoral route and her subseqent treck into political obscurity will signal the Canadian public's rejection of damaging Green economics.
The greens will never get a seat as long as they want to finance their green utopia by impovershing the middle class.

Mayhem ?
January 18, 2095 may, MAY be -20C instead of -20.8C Mayhem ?
Polar bears will be doing even better than the last 20 years.
Canadian farmers will enjoy longer growing seasons. More/cheaper food for consumers.
The beach season in Canada will last 42 days instead of 39.
We can plug the car in 2 weeks less each year.
There will be 1500 less cases of frost bite every year.
More Canadian wine.
The Homeless will have it easier.
Mayhem ??
All this down the drain if Rosie May has her way and nails Canadians with higher gasoline taxes.
And if she overshoots ? ... and/or in conjunction with another Ice Age, Canadians will enjoy;
A kilometer of ice over our heads. No domestic food production. No beach weather. Horrendous heating bills. Polar Bears in our living rooms.
Thanks a $million Liz :)
But I would rather thrive like the Vikings did a thousand years ago when the Earth's temperature was a couple of degrees or so warmer.
Slow day at CTV ?

I can't see any problem with what may proposes so long dion's dog kyoto agrees.
What happens to Mr. NDP if he supports the idea of increasing fuel taxes? Wasn't he, not so long ago, demanding lower taxes on fuel?
Speaking of which, does anyone (even the NDP) think he's still relevant in any way? -- assuming for the sake of charity he had ever been relevant.
May's impending electoral route and subsequent political obscurity will signal the total rejection of Green economics.

Re: the picture at the start of this thread.....wonder what sort of splash pattern a watermelon leaves tossed from that height?
I like the user pay system.
All those in favour of Kyoto should pony up the cash to pay for it.
You would be issued a "Kyoto Kard" and every time you buy gas, pay your heat bill, or take an airplane flight, you can have the Kyoto tax added on.
Line forms on the left.
