Yep, Judy and Toto you better buy your carbon credit indulgences cause the flying monkey's and the wicked witch of the east might steal your red jeweled shoes!!
We're off to see the wizard the wonderful wizard of Gore!! Yep follow yellow brick road to the Kyoto credits. That'll stop any climate changin' tornado dead in its tracks!
Unbelievable video! Thank goodness no one was hurt, I still watch the skies in Edmonton for funnels, will never forget that killer tornado that hit us.
And yes, Hans, I agree, to think that we can change the climate, is just wrong headed, nothing was going to stop that tornado, not all the carbon credits in the world.
Not sure which, of two Manitoba F4s, this one was. Anyone know who shot the video ??
I know the area well. Elie, MB. Great people. Three more doors to the East and a house that I frequented as a teen would also have been gone :(
Other MB tornados;
Vita early 50s
LaRivere 1968
Rosa 1978
St Claude 1984
And numerous other ones not recorded when communication was still sparse. And any tornado anywhere did not get 24/7 play on the hype/calamity channels.
Tornado Alley;
Oklahoma is the center, MB the northern fringe. Has the most Tornados of anywhere in the world. Why ??
From memory; hot tropical moisture laden air can surge north, no mountains to halt it. Cold actic air can also surge south. Severe T-storms develope in the contrast. Often on a cold front. As the front advances across the open plain a huge roll cloud can deveope --- horizontal rotation. A massive T-storm with air rushing upwards at 100(?)mph stands the roll cloud on end. Seven miles up, the tornado may be supported by the jet stream, sucking the air away at the top.
To the massive T-storm, the tail(funnel) of destruction is merely a dangling vortex of inwardly rushing air. A small part, that we see, of the monster.
Anyone else have a more, and better, scientific analysis ??
The camera men here fit a number of descriptions; quick thinking, cool under pressure, unselfish in capturing it for others, --- and perhaps a little crazy :)
This video was shot by two 'storm chasers' from Oklahoma. They were observing weather patterns in Manitoba and stated they knew for sure that there was about to be a big one here. They drove 23 straight hours to Manitoba from Oklahoma to cature these images. But our own Environment Canada couldn't forsee this tornado even a few hours in advance. Go figure.
I am currently sitting in the warning area for tonite..pretty spooky stuff, weird clouds, waiting to run to my 'bunker'..we get lots of freaky weather in the area (close to Man/Ont/US border)..that's it! It's Bush's fault!Gotta shut things down, and get prepared..later folks. Sammy
Absolutely awesome video - not to mention the tornado itself. Since the "Wizard of Oz' was shot/released in 1939, I don't think we can blame Bush or Gore or Bazooki or Global Warming. Apparently these things just happen.
I live 12 miles west of Elie, ans I watched the tornado that hit the town form, and I watched it die.
Shortly after I first sighted it, we (wife, son and I) jumped in our van and sped toward it as fast as we dared. We stopped within 3 miles of the monster and witnessed if devour trees and homes, with intermittent bright flashes as it shorted power lines. It was an awesome sight. Thankfully nobody was injured.
When it was spent, it simply vaporized within a few seconds. My son remarked that it was his first tornado sighting, to which I responded that it would probably be his last as well, since personal tornado sightings are rare. I barely had the words out of my mouth when we looked south to see another monster tornado in progress, about 7 miles away. I later learned that it destroyed one farmyard, and otherwise only damaged farm crops. Again nobody hurt.
The aftermath of the Elie tornado was a massive hail and rain storm that destroyed my entire farm crop.
Ross: "But our own Environment Canada couldn't forsee this tornado even a few hours in advance. Go figure."
Not a big deal. Just how many people do we want to hire to predict a once in a lifetime event. I don't know if the chasers told Environment Canada that they were predicting this ... if so ... if not ...
We had hundreds of people and spent millions (maybe into the 100's millions) predicting and preparing for floods in BC recently ... the result was a handful of people, that built in the flood plains, had their basements flooded.
A BTW: Woodporter would have lost his crops anyway.
Yeah I was in Brandon for the whole weekend and nothing happened here. We didn't even get that much for rain! But all around us in pretty much every direction there were tornado reports. So far I've heard Elie, Pipestone, Canupawakpa First Nation, Reston, Killarney, Boissevain, Pellican Lake, and an area between Hartney and Delorain.
I heard something about one near Brandon as well, but I think that was misinformation.
I think there is no doubt that we are experiencing different climate. The ferocity seems to have intensified over the years. Either too much precipitation, or not enough. Then we have tornadoes, which for the most part, are quite rare in MB, except for the last few years.
But I do not for a second buy that we're causing it. So much of the science is against global warming. Then again, maybe the sky really is falling (yeah, right!)
I live here in northern calfornia and we had a small tornado a few years ago and their rather rare around here it just cuased minor damage but i,ll bet that AL GORE and the idiots at GREENPACE will blame this on GLOBAL WARMING knowing how rediclous they are
Must have been some Liberal verbal diarrhea spewers like Gerard Kennedy and Martha Hall-Findlay out there.
Don't laugh, it could be Bush's fault, they could have been talking/wind-bagging about Harper and Bush. After all, we should really not be getting along with our neighbor and biggest trading partner, we should be fighting them and calling names, a la Carolyn Parrish, "those American Bastards, I hate them".
As spurwing plover said, it will be blamed on Global Warming. Every strong wind and temperature shift will be cited. The fact that we can all recall variations in our seasonal weather for years, colder to milder winters and cooler to hotter and dryer to wetter summers all escapes the Enviro Wackos.
Not true Brodie. Twisters have been around Manitoba for a long long time. I saw one in early summer 69 that went through Assiniboia Downs and we had flying horses and barnstorming all in one fell swoop.

Wow... I suddenly remembered I need to go work on my emergency preparedness kit.
Now I seem to remember a tornado or two in the 70's when we were headed for the Global Cooling apocalypse.
Just remember people, its all your fault.
All joking aside.

Al in all quite a night.

the only constant of change is, well, change. be it climate, human behaviour or environment. If we don't change we stagnate and die.
Tornado, eh!
I'm glad I wasn't up in the tower that night. Supposedly, it's tornado-proof, but I'll be damned if I'm going to find out.

That particular video is of the F4 near Pipestone. The storm chasers needed a day to drive up from Oklahoma. They missed the one in Elie.
Sammy, saying this is Bush's fault is ridiculous.
A phenomenon of this magnitude could not be caused by a single man, no matter what office he holds. No, this is clearly Haliburton's fault.
Must have been some Liberal verbal diarrhea spewers like Gerard Kennedy and Martha Hall-Findlay out there.
