Pouring the Kool-Aid down the sink;
"The science of global warming is speculative. But there's nothing speculative about the damage a C02 capture program will do to this country. I know the names of many of the thousands of people--American workers, their families--whose lives will be destroyed by what has become a deceitful and hysterical campaign, perpetrated by fear-mongers in our society and by corporate executives intent on their own profits or competitive advantage. I can't stand by and watch."[...]
Those jobs are top of [Robert E. Murray's, chairman and CEO of Murray Energy] list of concerns, and he's been determined to make people hear about them. At a recent speech to the New York Coal Trade Association, designed to whip some of his fellow coal industry friends into action, Mr. Murray recalled what happened in his region after the 1990 Clean Air Act, which imposed drastic reductions in coal production: "In Ohio alone, from 1990 to 2005, nearly 120 mines were shut down, costing more than 36,000 primary and secondary jobs. These impacted areas have spent years recovering, and some never will. Families broke up, many lost homes, and some were impoverished . . ." He finishes the thought by noting that a global warming program would make those prior coal cuts look like small potatoes.
These speeches and TV appearances have become more frequent--and it's a measure of just how big an irritant he's become to global-warming politicians and their new buddies in the energy industry, that when Mr. Murray was invited to impart his wisdom to Congress at a hearing in March, Democrats tried to keep him from testifying. They later gave in, although Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee Chairman Jim Costa pointedly left the room when it was Mr. Murray's turn to testify.
[...]
Mr. Murray, like most honest participants in this debate, can reel off the names of the many respected scientists who still doubt that human activity is the cause of rising temperatures. But he tends to treat the scientific debate almost as a sideshow, an excuse for not talking about what comes next. "Even if the politicians believe 100% that man is causing global warming, they still have an obligation to discuss honestly just what damage they want to inflict on American jobs and workers and people on fixed incomes, in the here and now, with their programs."
And he has this to say about the people who bring you your long weekend gasoline prices;
"There is this belief that since even some in the energy industry are now on board with a program, that it must be okay. No one is looking at these executives' real motives."
Emphasis mine.

....or the motives of governments who allow price fixing and combines to set high gas prices with nothing more than greed and fake panics to back the increases...certainlt not a free market practice...but who has a free market when 3 levels of Kleptocracy dip their beaks in the supply chain....we should ask why they feel unmotivated to investigate consumer gas pricing policies...if the prices do not reflect the true supply and demand curves...an honest market watchdog would correct the anomolies to level the playing field...but is a government that is a partner in Fuel retail reliable as a free market watchdog?
The whole thrust of the Kyoto klutzes who blindly follow the CO2 religion, have failed entirely to follow the money.
With the advent of multinational corporations money moves around the globe in milliseconds. Driving Kyoto pushes alternate energy sources and Al Gore's investment portfolio.
The laudatory pulpit beating by the "Goracle" is hardly a monetarily disinterested message.
When China is planning and building some 565 coal fired plants to generate power, all the efforts in the world to seek alternate energy sources here won't make a tinker's damn of a difference.
It is a grand farce.
Moreover 'clean coal' technology, by introducing scrubbers to stacks, make it a low cost way of producing energy.
Mr Murray is dead to rights in his assertions and the other developing nations are hypocritical in their assertions.
It is the classic case of the 'kettle calling the pot black' due to coal fired energy sources!!
Even if one accepted the dubious and erroneous conclusions of AGW this part of the debate is completely ignored and Mr. Murray is entirely correct in drawing them out on their chicanery.
Global warming is a fruad and hoax being perpatrated by the eco-wacks from the various wealthy eco-freak groups
Global Warming's Architect
Is Kyoto architect Maurice Strong in failing health?
http://www.canadafreepress.com/2007/cover051707a.htm
... Kleptocracy ... fraud and hoax ... eco-wacks ... Maurice Strong ...
Yup, the green movement is pretty corrupt. But you're still screwed, because you haven't made it clear to your party that they lost your vote the minute they went green. Right now it's a win-win for them. They have a real chance of picking up urban and Quebec votes by pandering to the kool-aid drinkers, and their core supporters are too busy criticizing the greed and corruption of other parties and people in other countries. If you let them pull this off it's going to be a massive - I mean huge - payday as they vastly expand government programs and reward their workers and donors with government jobs and juicy contracts. It'll be a catastrophe for everyone else.
In the end it's not the eco-loons and kool-aid drinkers who are your enemies, it's the political whores you sent to Ottawa.
North America has at least 200 years of coal reserves under the ground. That's not ignorable. It's a matter of putting some research into cleaning up coal as an energy source. Seems doable to me. But, these fools are hellbent on shutting down that industry.
It's takes 20-25 years to get a nuclear power plant on line.
Ethanol will shift agriculture so severely that the reallocation of food will be a catastrophe.
I really think these envirno idiots think we can run cars on Pepsi and power American homes with grass clippings since there is no science or reality behind any of their prattle.
A lot of people, not just farmers and miners, stand to get burned financially if these idiots aren't countered soon.
"Global Warming's Architect
Is Kyoto architect Maurice Strong in failing health?"
Wouldn't it be dark irony if he contracted some ailment related to the foul polluted air in Beijing he helped create?
Perhaps he has secured a final resting place in China as I'm sure he's aware putting him in Canadian soil would amount to dumping toxic waste.
Big money and big business are indeed playing a game.
Mutual fund managers go where ever there is money to be made.
Having always been dubious of so called "renewable power" I was surprised to realise we were invested in a fund owning wind, solar and/or biofuel schemes.
Also realizing the managers were very compitent and had a proven track record, I was puzzled. Don't worry, we were told. As soon as we can dump, we will. Huh ??
Turns out, the govmit, with taxpayers $$, is allowing 50% write off if one keeps the "green" investment for two years. During that two years, one is vulnerable to the 'jig-is-up' risk. As long as the thing holds even, a tidy 50% profit is made. Cool.
I still want an answer to my question from some Kyoto Kultist. Maybe Ugh can help....Tell me...how does sending billions of dollar to the Goracle,Fruitfly,Chine,India, etc for "carbon credits" reduce the amount of CO2 that HAS ALREADY BEEN PRODUCED???? I await your answer whilst I fire up my charchol B-BQ,and idle my F2500.
McLiar won't install scrubbers in the coal fired generators because it is 'too expensive'. And yet they just gave themselves a 31% raise and we learn that high flying Dulton is flying around Ontario at increasing rates. Wonder if he has shares in Goracle's company?
As for eco-fuels--I saw a report the other night that Germany is planting thousands of acres of rape seed to produce these fuels. It is called 'rape' for a reason--it destroys the soil--it cannot even be planted in the same field for 2 consecutive years. How many people have to starve to death because of this scaremongering? Oh right--at leas a billion according to Patrick Watson.
Canadian Press (CP) and Environment Canada's David Phillips also seem to be in the game. Promoting 'Qualifier Credits'.
Phillips turns himself in knots. First fear mongering on the "possibility" of severe weather and then quickly saying it might not happen though. That's helpfull.
//cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2007/05/19/4193225-cp.html
A short two page article had a multitude of 'ifs'.
"we're suggesting" -- "look like" -- "the potential for a more" __ "the potential could" -- "they're talking about" -- "the possibility" -- "could mean droughts" -- "what might follow" -- "isn't assured" -- "the prospect" -- "However, Phillips says there's nothing concrete" -- "he's not advising" -- "suggests the chance" -- "Another possibility"
Even though Phillips seems to have stopped "suggesting" it is our 'man-made-global-warming-fault, it should still help the fear mongers make money.
About the only thing the rest of us could take to the bank would be a nervous break down.
"How many people have to starve to death because of this scaremongering? Oh right--at leas a billion according to Patrick Watson."
No. Much more than that. Pat would only leave a Billion of us.
"We need to radically and intelligently reduce human populations to fewer than one billion.", Paul Watson.
"I was once severely criticized for describing human beings as being the “AIDS of the Earth.” I make no apologies for that statement." Paul Watson.
//www.seashepherd.org/editorials/editorial_070504_1.html
How many $$s has 'Sea Shepherd made from the Kyoto Hype ??
No wonder Canadian Patrick Moore www.greenspirit.com bailed from his own Greenpeace a long time ago. He had a conscious.
The end of this fear gouging at the pumps will end when it pushed the cost of everything that must be transported to Canadian markets beyond Canadian's ability to keep their incime gap ahead of the Kyoto-fueld inflation spiral.
Humping us for fuel costs effects EVERYTHING that is transported in the supply manufacut\re and retail chains..EVERYTHING...the economic reckoning is near.
It is called 'rape' for a reason--it destroys the soil--it cannot even be planted in the same field for 2 consecutive years.
Rape does not destroy the soil. It is not good agronomic practice to plant in the same field for two successive years because it is susceptible to fungal diseases which can last in the soil and on the plant residue for at least two years. It does use more nitrogen and sulpher than most crops, thus earning the reputation of being hard on the soil.
Guys, the reason gas is $1.10 a quart today is because the Americans lack refinery capacity to match their demand. Pure supply/demand equation, there's no eeevile cabal of profiteering capitalist oil ogres gouging us.
Now ask me why the Americans don't have enough refining capacity. Go ahead.
One word: Greenies. There have been no new refineries built in the last 30 years because the Greenies have made it too expensive. Regulations, enviro-impact studies, NIMBY wanker lawsuits, blah blah blah.
And that is why you are paying a buck ten a quart at the pumps today in an oil exporting country.
Thank you, Greenies.
And Phantom....they have killed the only sensible alternative to coal/oil/natural gas power plants. Don't know about you, but I am going to kill many, many trees for my wood burning stove. Should keep the greenies happy...not. And do I care...hehehehe
Maybe Ugh can help....Tell me...how does sending billions of dollar to the Goracle,Fruitfly,Chine,India, etc for "carbon credits" reduce the amount of CO2 that HAS ALREADY BEEN PRODUCED????
It doesn't. Global warming is a crock, so the only thing such a plan would do is punish honesty and hard work and reward dishonesty and sloth in the third world, while the instigators of the plan subtract a huge cut for themselves and their cronies.
And the Conservative plan to rip money out of honest, hardworking people's hands and give it to Canadian crooks and welfare bums is no better. Punishing the good and rewarding the bad. While subtracting a huge cut for themselves and their cronies.
This garbage will only last as long as there is money to pay for it all. When another depression starts (and I'm pretty sure there will be another one, either caused by this green insanity or by something else), people will not bother trying to cut their so-called greenhouse emissions because they will be too busy trying to survive.
The eco-freaks wont be happy intil america is reduced to a miserble third world existence they would rather have starvation then well fed masses ENVIROMENTALISTS ARE EVIL
Earth's blackbody radiation as viewed from Space has voids in it where CO2 absorbs radiation. Those voids are also where H2O absorbs radiation. That there are voids indicates that all the radiation is being absorbed. If it is all absorbed then addding more CO2 should have little or no effect. There is no more energy for man made CO2 to absorb then we are looking at the wrong "problem".
As one who was negotiating with the Liberal Government on Kyoto for the potash business before the PC's came into power, Kyoto was never about reducing Greenhouse gases (only about intensitiy ratios, not absolutes) but Kyoto was about the transfer or the worlds wealth through Carbon Trading.
Why do you think Gore promotes what he does...His trip to Regina which we paid for in the amount of $250,000 is advertising for his copmpany.
Gore was instrumental in the negotiations of the Kyoto Accord.. Clinton refused to pass it in the US. But Gore saw a good thing and he promptly set up a company that trades CO2 (Hot Air)
Just like a Real Estate Agent or a Stock Broker who arranges to sell or buy property or Stocks. These agents make 6 or 7 % to arrange a deal between the Buyer and Seller. Gore Makes this amount on every Carbon Trade.
I Don't believe in his Borat movie. But I do Agree that he is a business man and is duping the masses into a business which he created.
Go for Gore....
so many athiests claiming to have the power of God over the planet. so many believers in evolution not believing that what man does is part of the evolutionary cycle. i hope their stupidity doesn't make the planet any cooler, that would be a real disaster.
Ugh...my apologies. You are the first and only person who has stated that it does nothing but rip off money from the honest consumer. Re-reading some of your previous comments, I think you are just an independent who raises hell with anybody who screws around. BZ to you.
truthsayer says "Earth's blackbody radiation as viewed from Space has voids in it where CO2 absorbs radiation. Those voids are also where H2O absorbs radiation. That there are voids indicates that all the radiation is being absorbed."
Nonsense. The earth constantly receives energy from the sun, which it in turn eventually emits out to space, rendering it in balance. If all the blackbody radiation were absorbed, the planet would be extremely hot and getting hotter, much more so than we are currently experiencing.
"Guys, the reason gas is $1.10 a quart today is because the Americans lack refinery capacity to match their demand. Pure supply/demand equation, there's no eeevile cabal of profiteering capitalist oil ogres gouging us"
I'm calling Bovine Scat on that one Phantom. The consumer gas retail chain is hardly a free market exercise...government is a partner in sales and also regulates refinery profits and capacity...conflicted interest as far as non competative pricing practices are used??..you bet!!
And with the refining capacity in the west I'm not buying this myth that gouging in Canada is the result of America any more than it is a result of China or Europe.
Oil is cheap and abundant in Canada, Canada crude is the purest on earth and requires the least refining...our delivery systems to refinery are swift, efficient and cheap...our collective refining capacity is in excess of our demands.
The problem is the government does not want to set a made in Canada consumer pricing policy because allowing a true unencumbered supply and demand curve to exist will result in a reduction in tax reveues...it will also end price fixing and uncompetative practices by government's partner, the fuel retail and commodity speculators.
When the government sets so many regulations and taxes the supply and retail chain of a commodity/industry so heavily, when crap hits the fan I go looking at BIG GOVERNMENT for accounting.
All I have gotten from the political whore we sent to the PMO is the Pontious Pilot hand washing cerimony as he rakes in surplus from gas tax revenues due to the gouging.
Harper KNOWS... and Gary Lunn has stated... that the OPPOSITION Kyoto plan called for a 60% increase in pump price that was "totally unrelated to supply or demand"...GET THAT STRAIGHT!: "totally unrelated to supply or demand"...yet the political whores we sent to Ottawa to supplant Liberal kleptocractic policy have allowed this bigest of consumer gouges to pass without doing the right thing and refusing the plan outright...they could have run an election on this and won.
The only thing I can think of is that they are accepting the Kyoto fuel cost driven inflation spiral to show Canadians what life will be like under a liberal Kyotro kleptocracy...they are succeeding...I now ask if the CPC is going to act like the Liberals in gas pricing, why not just elect Liberals and have them blamed for the resulting economic fallout?
Mr. Mackenzie, with all due respect this is one of those urban legend/conspiracy theories that is very popular with politicians in Opposition. Gas prices go up, they call for an investigation. Gas prices go down, nobody calls an investigation on how the retailers are getting ripped off.
Currently crude oil prices have fallen from their $70+ high earlier in the year to about $65. The reason refined product prices has not fallen is that American refineries are running flat out and can't keep up. This means buying off-shore refined product to make up the difference.
Canada has more than enough refinery capacity in Alberta to fill Canadian demand. But, the pipelines from those refineries don't just run east-west. They run north-south too. Alberta sells the lion's share of its production to the Americans. Ontario buys finished product from the Americans. BC buys finished product from the Americans.
So the price of gas is set on the New York City docks for most of Canada.
And that's why every single time any level of government launches an investigation into price fixing in the fuel business, they come up EMPTY.
Now as far as government interference with the refinery business, oh baby there's a bunch of it. All Greenie inspired, 99% of the problem is American. All those fancy ethanol/gasoline mixes mandated by various states? Additives, diesel sulpher content, mixing, transport, switching product in pipelines, all that boutique fuel crap takes up TIME and MONEY at refineries, which we get to pay for.
Buck ten a gallon. Thank you greenies!
I was happy to hear your good news re: Ol' Mo Lorraine. What is he doing in Ottawa? Shouldn't he be in China doing his good Commie citizen duty by having his organs harvested before he croaks?
Is he fanatical enough to be in Ottawa to transfer all those offshore bank accounts filled with Canadian taxpayer's seed money for the blood money from the oil-for-cash extracted from Saddam Hussein? The Kyotee thingie was yet another hoax set up to impoverish all independant citizens and move all people of all nations into squalid city cells so we can be observed and put in an economic stranglehold that we can not free ourselves from. All government degrees all the time - state slaves - with a sprinkling of loyal well brainwashed commie thugs to oversee the minions. Ol' Mo hates people as do all his 'followers' - rational people who like life should take a queue from the old saying "Birds of a feather flock together" - know thine enemy. Don't ever trust any of the Kyotee cheer leaders but listen to every word they say, roadblock them and send this excellent link posted by Kate to all sane people that you know. I plan to practise what I am preaching.
Many thanks to Judi McLeod.
RL said "go for Gore". I'll agree if it's the jugular. It's difficult to look at the creep without the urge to choke him.
When can we take TED TURNER,DAVID SUZUKI,AL GORE,JAMES LOVELOCK, and put them into suspended animation about the sleeper ship S S BOTONY BAY?
