What a silly Either-Or question.

Mistake One: The Either-Or format. Why is it only one or the other?

Mistake Two: Taxes, whether increased or lowered, are real. We control them, via our control over the government.
But global warming or cooling is not, despite the cultists, within our control.

So, how can you legitimately ask us to choose between one action that we can control, and one action that we cannot control?

since global warming is unaffected by taxes it seems logical to lower taxes...actually remove a good deal of them and downsize government proportionately.

Who are the real deniers?

1) They deny any alternative explanation for increased global temperatures and religiously only accept the GHG theory, on the basis of which they want to condemn us to a pre-industrial standard of living because they hate and deny capitalism.

2) They want to deny free speech to anyone whose science is different from their own "revealed truth".

3) They deny the scientific method which is based on skepticism and subjecting theories to repeated tests and exchange of scientific information.

As for the Angus Reid Survey choices, if the Real Deniers have their way we will have no change in the status of global warming. But we will definitely have lower taxes, because we will have little income left to be taxed.

Well, to swim against the current on this issue, I think the poll question is fine as it is. The question is trying to judge the relative concern that the public has between the climate issue and their own hard-earned money.

No, it is not a "scientific" poll...it is just a quick way to judge how serious people are about climate change...'cause people generally take their taxes very seriously.

And its currently running pretty much balanced between the two. Wow...Canadians who think that their taxes are fine as is! They've already been fully indoctrinated. At what point do we give all of our money to the government and just get "an allowance"?

SIMPLE SOLUTION: STOP DRIVING!

Why on Earth is it so difficult to see the problem and fix it? Taxes have nothing to do with global warming. RAISE THE PRICE OF GAS TO $10/liter! Problem solve humans saved, global warming stopped, regulate/train drivers properly. Sounds like Americans are the ones worrying about money since they have no resources except guns. We have oil gold and diamonds here in Saskatchewan, we have nothing to worry about except for the rich fascists who THINK they run the country by the barrel of their guns. I'm going to solve the gun problem pretty soon too, did you know that there used to be so much wildlife in Saskatchewan that people could walk outside their house and club a deer? I have seen a picture of this which is only 50 years old. Love nature and the Earth and it will love you. What goes around comes around, don't forget that.

felis corpulentis: A couple of comments in regards to your post.

1) Reasons are denyed because they do not hold up. If you can suggest an alternate theory I would be interested in considering it. By the way, I do not hate capitalism (I have owned small businesses in the past) or technology (I am an engineer).

2) Science is brutal in its own way that can often be mistaken for denying free speech. In law and politics opposing sides are given time to present an opposing point of view. In the scientific world it only depends on whether your science holds together or not. If it does not, then yes, it can be brutal.

3) Yes, science is based on skepticism - but skepticism must be tempered with reality. If a skeptical point is raised but then shown to be wrong it should be left to die unless new data or new theories can revive it.

I disagree with you; I think that invalid polls act as propaganda by implying that the public can legitimately choose between the two options. They can't; taxes are controllable; the climate is not.

A better question would have been, if they actually wanted to test 'how serious people are about climate change' - a series of questions from the general to the specific, eg.

1) How serious a problem is climate change?
Not very serious 1 2 3 4 5 Very serious.
2) ...and then, a series of questions asking who should deal with it: the federal gov't, the provincial, the municipal - and you. And your street, your neighbours, your co-workers. etc, etc. And what should be done..

The question doesn't answer anything to do with 'how serious is climate change'.

I joined up with the Angus Reid forum back at the beginning of March. The first poll I did, made it very obvious that I am a Western Canadian, Conservative supporter who thinks global warming is a load. Since then, I believe I was only asked to do one other poll, and that had nothing to do with politics.

It smells fishy. Anyone else have any experiences with that?

ET, I know what you're saying and I know that the poll question isn't perfect. I view it as similar (though not exactly) to asking the following question:

"The life of your spouse or the life of your child? You decide."

Obviously, "why not both?" is a valid question, but that is not the point here. They want to know the relative importance between the two. So, you're right...but I just don't think that's the point of the poll.

Jared, just by being not one of the brightest bulbs on the porch, is already doing his part in conserving energy. I guess we should cut him some slack.

I think he was trying to make some kind of a point, but, then it all got away from him.

The reduction in taxes vs global warming are not the same. One, taxes, you have some measure of control over it. The other - you have no measure of control over it. So, how can you decide? It's like asking - you decide: lower taxes or growing wings and flying.

in 2011 and 2012 there's supposed to be a fairly large increase in solar activity. i remember about 30 or so years ago in manitoba . there were fires everywhere and it was hotter than hell. you could look at the sun through the smoke and see the huge black sunspots on it . if this happens again i can just imagine gorf and susucki running around screaming " see i told you !!!!!!! we're all gonna die !!!!!!! " i can hardly wait.

Maybe there weren't more white-tails in the 50's. Maybe they were just stupid.
