That when Castro's death is finally acknowledged, the Trudeau boys will have a new father figure superhero waiting to fill his shoes;
Meanwhile, multiple sources around Caracas report that at a recent cabinet meeting, Chávez excoriated his ministers for disobeying his “orders” to stop inflation. Inflation has been spiraling as a result of Chávez’s reckless economic “policies” (if that is not too charitable a term). As a result, Chávez was moved to impose price controls in many categories of basic foodstuffs, which has predictably led to food shortages (despite huge oil windfalls) which has led to decrees obligating farmers and supermarkets to keep producing and selling, even if they incur losses.
Do you smell diesel?

Just because socialism hasn't worked in Cuba, Russia, China, Venezuela, etc etc, doesn't mean it won't work in Canada. Come on, let's jump in with both feet and no parachute. VOTE NDP!! Or Dion...same difference.
Chavez is the prefect study in George Santayana's adage that "Those Who Forget History Are Doomed to Repeat It". We've been through this drill before....lefty fascist populist, uneducated gullible supportive masses, nationalized industries, the creative and entreprenuer class out driven out, the rule of law suspended, the free press shut down, eventually arrests and murdered dissidents, the economy micromanaged into the ground, hyperinflation, no outside capital investments forthcoming, price controls, breadlines, yada, yada, yada.
For the stupid and the history challenged young this is a surprise.
Chavez will ruin Venezuela. The cycle will repeat somewhere else with the same Useful Idiots cheering the horror on.
I smell diesel, and freshly turned earth. Only a matter of time.
Come on guys, give them a chance! It's only been 100 years and 120 million dead. Somebody's bound to make socialism work sooner or later!
"Chávez excoriated his ministers for disobeying his “orders” to stop inflation."
This sentence nicely sums up the idiocy exemplified by Chavez and his type.
I disagree with the gist of this conversation, Venezuala will prevail! these people know all about democracy, free will, the right to life.. chavez will be defeated by democracy, if time proves me wrong then I'll be a monkeys frikkin uncle
Wow, socialism is failing faster and faster these days.
I wonder how the people would vote today if given the chance. Wasn't he supported mostly by the farmers. And didn't they vote in Hammas in Palestine. Careful what you wish for.
And lets remember all of this misery is 'for the people'.
Venezuala will prevail! these people know all about democracy, free will, the right to life.. chavez will be defeated by democracy, if time proves me wrong then I'll be a monkeys frikkin uncle.
Sadly, kelly, shutting down tv stations isn't new to the Chavez voters. He's been doing it all along. It's just that this one had the most popular soap operas. I'm reserving judgement on the good sense of the Venezuelans that voted him in in the first place
Putin has them all shut down and has a 70% popularity rating. Some much for good sense of the Russians. History is full of sheeple that will trade hype and cheap bread for basic freedoms.
"Do you smell diesel?"
No, but I believe I smell a little greaseball in the frying pan, now that the Venezuelans are taking to the streets.
Shutting down a major TV network, really! What's next, Chavez - a ban on the internet so that your citizens can be further kept in the dark?
'tis a sad state of affairs penny if what you say is true however there is too much in the way of natural and human resourses for this foreward thinking country to fall and if it does then I believe it would be our fault and not theirs
Kelly 11:13 How does an abundance of natural resources prevent a country from becoming a socialist he77-hole?
How exactly, kelly, would it be OUR fault, not theirs, if Venezuela fails?
Let me see if I understand you, they elected Chavez, but have no responsibility in the outcome of their actions, North Americans do!!
Want to share your reasoning/logic on that?
This feels like Atlas Shrugged.
gladly share my reasoning penny but it's not logical by any means. Venezuala need not fall to a tinpot dictator, it's our responsibility as people..thinking, loving, gawd fearin people to stop it. I believe that by posting here right now we are doing just that. spread the word
the only way we can help the people of Venezuela is to send troups ro take this commie scum out.
What will happen when FIDEL CASTRO dose kick the bucket? will JIMMY CARTER call for us to fly our flags at half mast? NOT ON YOUR LIFE PEANUTEATER KID we dont fly old glory at half mast for tyrants and despots
Unless I've forgotten the order of things, isn't this the part where the socialist Great Exhausted Rooster begins to murder his people, for the good of the counrty of course.

"to choose a path"? Si. "Sendero Luminoso" = "Shining Path". Si, Hugo.
The People's War is led by the Communist Party of Peru (PCP) -- often referred to as "Sendero Luminoso" or "Shining Path" by the media.(csrp-org)

Democracy has a different meaning to committed socialists, as any honest member of the hard left will tell you. Democracy is to be guided by the Vanguard of History. In any substantive clash between majority rule and enlightened rule, the Wise Ones prevail. This principle is called the Dictatorship of the Proletariat.
Therefore popular sufferage is all very well for so long as it tends in the correct direction. Then it is valid. Should it tend incorrectly it is invalid. And no committed Marxist should sink into the error of thinking that politics is like a beauty contest. Democracy, where it is permitted, is but a ratchet allowing people to choose a path they would otherwise be compelled to take anyway. This is a direct consequence of the directionality of history. Only "forward" or "progressive" steps are licit.
This I believe is the classic and honest definition of what the hard Left understands as Democracy. And in that context the events in Venezuela are perfectly democratic....-

as we used to say in the cold war days..."the only good commie, is a dead commie"
The Venezualan people have a right of self determination....and it looks like they may be getting tired of the choice they made.
Nobody said we had to support or agree with the choice they made, it isnt in our interest to do so. But sending troops to do what they can do themselves, just like Iran this thing will collapse.
Only North Korea has been able to lock itself down completely and keep its people so weak and confused that they are unable to rouse themselves to change their circumstances. Venezuala and Iran are both long distances from that.
Change will come, is coming. This is all do to Hugo being Hugo.....just keep giving him the rope he seems intent to tie it to the highest tree with his neck in the noose.
C'mon people. The Turdeau boys are right! Hugo(or is that Yugo?) is doing great things for Venezuela! Gas is only 10 CENTS a gallon!! What? Oh. It doesn't matter that 99% can't afford a vehicle. Just look at how cheap it is! He has ordered the farmers to grow more food, without modern technology. So of course they will, being the good little socialists they are. Shutdown that nasty independent station that was stealing money from the people to run itself? Well of course that's good. Now all that extra money can go to Hugo so that he can bring in more cronies to stop run-away inflation as they implement price controls, which will help the poor peasant buy the extra food the farmers are producing! See all you neo-cons???? It's a win-win situation! Venezuela will be the U.S. of the Central/South Americas. How can you deny them this right? Plus just think, with gas 10 cents/gal,why the diesel for the bulldozers must be dirt cheap!
"Putin has them all shut down and has a 70% popularity rating."
C'mon man, who do you think is in charge of the polling?
You are talking about a guy who kills people who criticize him. Several Russian journalists are already dead. Do a bit more reading and thinking.
I just watched the "Last King of Scotland" the other day. The Story of Idi Amin.
I see parallels here with this dictator Chavez. A big evil childish megalomaniac in a fat greasy body with lots of armed sycophants around him.
There will be population reduction in Venezuela and I am sure it's already underway.
This is just the kind of man the Trudeau's can appreciate. Given the opportunity the only difference I can think of is that Justin would try to keep his weight down. Vanity you know and he is pretty like John Edwards.
It’s remarkable how many times a country is held hostage by the actions of one strong willed individual – Idi Amin, Mugabe, Castro etc.
What would happen to Venezuela if Chavez was simply danced outside?
"What would happen to Venezuela if Chavez was simply danced outside?"
Sounds good but won't happen. Socialism and nanny-statism breeds a mindset that relies on the state and its head for all aspects of life. Dancing away the state means a return to self-determination, individuality and capitalism, all of which are anathema to the socialist mindset.
Of particular interest to me is the pace with which a state turns totalitarian dictatorship once given to a complete socialist mindset. Venezuela is probably two to five years behind Zimbabwe; Venezuelans should be looking hard and long at Zimbabweans, who are living their future today before their very eyes.
This will be one of the quickest collapses of a socialist regime ever. 24 hour global markets, the internet, free flow of capital, etc. will make the economy crumble faster than Rosie O'Donnel's credibility.
Packwood's Law:
Sufficiently advanced stupidity is indistinguishable from evil.
First Corollary to Packwood's Law:
The Big Stupid is a stupidity so colossal people assume it must be true because no one would believe that someone could believe anything that stupid unless it were true.
Applies to Chavez's socialist utopia, as much as dar el Islam.
We shouldn't be so hard on the Trudeau boys. They lost their father only a few short years ago, and an entire nation wept, (according to every Canadian news source), and their father image, Fidel Castro, is soon off to the socialist version of Heaven, so the death of Hugo Chavez might be just too much to bear.
I know we can't afford to sell gas at 10 cents a gallon here, what with paying for the world's finest systems of education, health care, and justice, but could we please have a bit of a break, anyway? How about one dollar per litre, almost as cheap, if you use the right accounting techniques.

Yes Kate I smell the Cats being fueled...what IS it about utopian socialist despots that makes them think that command economics will work for them when thay have failed in every jurisdiction they have been adopted?
We see the tantums an threats as Chavez is not yet coping with command economic failuer....next he will be holding a gun to the chiken's head to make command econimics lay golden eggs evean after starving the chicken.
Next the buldozers to bury all the uncooperative starved chickens who fail to lay golden eggs.
Yeah how bout those Trudeau brats???...seems despot worship is a genetic trait with them.
It looks like Chavez is inching closer to a Stalin style solution toward dissidents, here's his ratcheted up rhetoric today:
"Enemies of the homeland, particularly those behind the scenes, I will give you a name: Globovision. Greetings gentlemen of Globovision, you should watch where you are going," Chavez said in a broadcast all channels had to show.
"I recommend you take a tranquilizer and get into gear, because if not, I am going to do what is necessary."

I'd feel sorry for Hugo's victims if the dambasses didn't vote for him. The Poles and Czechs deserved sympathy because they didn't want communism, the soviets invaded them.
If you vote for misery and death and receive it, that's just another form of natural selection.
Kelly, "We" have no responsibility to help "them" when it was "them" who brought their fate on themselves. Every time "we" try to help any of "them" no matter who the "them" are, we are trashed for by idiot leftards. Let "them" sleep in the bed they made.
That should make the leftards happy. After all, the leftards keep telling us there's too many people on the planet anyway.
You mean you can't stop inflation with thuggish threats? I thought the all-wise Chairman Mao had once said, "All power comes out of the barrel of a gun"?
Surely, if Chavez just shoots enough economists, farmers and grocery store owners, inflation will stop, prices will fall, and products will be abundant and cheap!
kelly, americans could influence the economy of venez. if they stopped buying gas at citgo stations across the u.s. they are owned by venez.
So, Kate, do you think Castro's dead already?
The Conservative Party has already surrendered to Chavez, Trudeau and their ideology. Who needs to nationalize industry when you only have to sequester their profits through your taxation policy and force them to invest and disinvest in whatever the government decrees by using the stick and carrot of regulations and subsidies?
And the Canadian government is also in the business of creating inflation (robbing workers and savers and rewarding those who have indexed government salaries or who work in favored and protected institutions such as banks). They're not in as big a hurry as Chavez, but they're running precisely the same scams.
I imagine that the red carpet was laid out for Chavez for quite a while before he actually got into power. If you cared to dig through Venezuelan political speeches of the last few years before Chavez came along, you probably wouldn't find a single word having been uttered about desirability of free markets. Kind of like Stephen Harper, ever since he got a good sniff of Ye Olde Ottawa Aire.
The battle of your political life isn't in five years with Justin Trudeau. By then it'll be too late. It's right now with your own party.
Ugh. You must be the life of all parties you attend.
I hear you. Principled conservatives, please shut up so the Conservative Party can throw a giant party with other people's money.
Party, bonfire, whatever.
