Better than playing video games

It's good to see young boys enjoying the outdoors:

An 11-year-old Alabama boy used a pistol to kill a wild hog his father says weighed a staggering 1,051 pounds and measured 9-feet-4 from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail. Think hams as big as car tires.

Interesting that in parts of the U.S., you can hunt with a pistol, while we here cannot. Bear hunters would love to carry a powerful pistol as a backup, in case everything else goes wrong, but in Canada, regulations are more important than hunters.

What a hunting tale for that kid to tell his friends. By the time he's an old man, (like me), the hog will be the size of an elephant.

I'm not sure that thing isn't a rhinoceros...

OH MY GOD, SOMEONE SHOT ROSIE O'DONNELL!!!!!!!

OH MY GOD, SOMEONE SHOT ROSIE O'DONNELL!!!!!!!

Have the SOWs been alerted??

Send it to Iran.

I'll bet that this piece about an 11 year old Christian boy with a big gun "killing" an animal must drive any leftie wimp who happens to read it, right off the edge.

Meanwhile the mayor of Toronto is saying the only thing hand-guns are used for is killing people. Tell that to the bear hunters.

Or maybe he thinks bears are just more low-intelligence country hicks from western Canada who haven't shaved for a while.

The boars of old Europe were once so feared that it took the whole village to kill the animal.
,amy a brave soul took the boar as their totem as the ancient Danes .

Now if that pig had been seen in oh, Black Creek conservation area, it would have taken two SWATs, and Miller would have order half the city locked down, with those not at home to lock their doors in their offices, turn off the lights and go hide in a corner.

Sorry, but my BS meter is beeping on this one.

So, this thing "weighed a staggering 1,051 pounds and measured 9-feet-4 from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail", did it?

From Wikipedia: "Hippos average 3.5 meters (11 ft) long, 1.5 meters (5 ft) tall at the shoulder, and weigh from 1,500 to 3,200 kilograms (3,300 to 7,000 lb)."

Almost identical body lengths, but a weight differential ranging from three- to seven-to-one? Not too likely.

That said, I've got to tip my hat to any 11-year old willing to fire a .50-cal pistol under any circumstances. That's impressive.

I wonder what/who is to blame for the size of that pig...was it George Bush or Global Warming?

Wow, can you say Ribs on the barbee?

Strange; I live right here in Delta and I never seen no hog bigger'n thet 5 foot 7" tall liberal who wez runnin fer politics out here.

Now that's what I call bring home the bacon!

Got to admit my BS-O-Meter is in the green. Pictures by a proud dad and the guides are lacking ... the guides must know this would be a record.

I have more pictures when my son was 11 catching fish ... size was not even average.

dmorris - I'll stick to my 12 gauge slug gun for back up thanks. It kills bears dead, I wouldn't trust a pistol as far as I can throw my 5th wheel.

Oh and the kid was supposedly shooting a .50 S&W. Uhm yeah sure.

BS-ometer beeping like mad here too.

So they had high-powered rifles but they let the kid shoot it eight times with the pistol, which meant it took three hours of chasing to die? Right-wing hunters everywhere are shaking their heads, methinks.

Nice big pig, though.

And the jerks at PETA and the various animal rights floozies will scream bloody murder over this HEY IM SURE IF YOU WENT OUT AND SHOT A LOEPARD SEAL SOME PENGUIN WOULD APPRECIATE IT HEY SCREW PETA SCREW PETER SINGER SCREW ALL ANTIHUNTERS

This a cool story. I'm amazed that a pig could get to be so big!

Ummmmm....wonder how an 11 year-old got wrists strong enough that they didn't break and the pistol kickback and smack him in the head. An 11 year-old shooting a .50 cal pistol??? BS meter on red alert.

I agree there may be some BS in this story - I find it a little hard to believe he shot his first deer when he was five. Any rifle suitable for deer hunting would be pretty hard to handle for a five year old.

But the story is too good to check, as they say in the news business.

Huh??? You off your meds again???

Don't know why this story is "so hard to believe", after all, Davy Crockett "killed 'im a B'ar when he was only three", must be true, they made a song about it!

bear, I agree a pistol is an inadequate weapon of last resort, but some bear hunters I know would prefer to carry one as a backup, maybe to kill themselves before the wounded bear does.

A slug equipped shotgun is a the best backup, just a little clumsier to carry. I hunt bears with a .444, with 265 grain bullets. So far, the bear has expired very quickly, with no backup required.

But, it would be nice if we were trusted to carry pistols, if we wanted. I guess, as a hunter in the Prince George area, I'd be a danger to the good citizens of Toronto, whence sprang the gun control laws, bless'em all.

It's good what ends up good.
Could have been printed in Indepenent Boar: 'A new record was set by an Alabama local obese hog, a middle aged father of 54: he bagged an 11 y/o boy armed with a whooping .50 cal revolver'...
Not trying to be cynical, just aware how die hard are the boars.

Lots of bacon and porkchop in their freezer and susage as well

I think the whole thing smells of bovine excrement, myself. I've noticed no mention of attempting to contact Boone and Crockett, no quotes from anyone in the scientific community ...etc, never mind the improbability of a 5 year-old successfully hunting deer, or an 11 year old handling a .50 cal handgun accurately. And, I'm no expert, but the photos on the website look 'shopped.
