Robert “F*** the Jews” McClelland is in deep dippity doo doo today, with Cherniak leading the charge.
Sadly, the creeping anti-semitism in the Left is nothing new, as we conservatives have been pointing out for years now. Maybe this incident will inspire some introspection.
Here’s what really interests me (and maybe no one else):
Why do we have these political blogrolls anyway? Let’s be honest: they are mostly a circle jerk slice of code we use to game our rankings on Truth Laid Bear. If they “need” to exist, they certainly shouldn’t display official party logos if they (the blogrolls) are “unofficial” to begin with.
You can’t blame an ordinary, non-political-junkie browser from assuming that these blogrolls are wholly owned subsidiaries of their respective parties. Why not reduce the chance of confusion by stripping out logos and/or calling these sites the Blogging Conservatives or Socialists? Just askin’. Do whatever the hell you want with your stuff, dudes.
I’m also troubled slightly by Jason Cherniak’s rather “keener boy” remark that:
I cannot believe that the members of the party of Stephen Lewis could be even remotely comfortable with Mr. McClelland acting as an unofficial spokesperson for them.
Why would any organization have the time or inclination to police its “unofficial” spokesmen? I know Cherniak is Mr. Party Politics and is probably all into rules and regulations and party discipline and stuff, but really. I’m troubled by his implication that some Central Authority should be monitoring bloggers who call themselves liberals, conservatives or socialists just because a brat like McClelland (or me) may drive off the reservation and crash into a ditch.
Scold “official” spokesmen all you want. But if you catch an “unofficial” blogger in your nets, toss us back.
I realize many of you are angling for “official” party jobs through your blogs. (I can tell by how boring your posts are…) Not me. I smell a campaign brewing to “clean up” the political blogosphere to make it safe for all you careerist, no-talent party hacks. And I don’t like it.
I don’t think any of the lists do have official logos. If a person clicks “about us” on the Liblogs page, it is clear about the lack of official connection.
As for my line, it is meant to tug at the heart strings. My goal in all of this was to discredit McClelland, who is full of hate. If that required me to call for action by a political party against one of its more public supporters, then so be it.
I think the only appropriate response is, who is Robert McClelland? Don’t read his blog, and I don’t suppose I will start now. It sounds like a train wreck.

I hope to God that when I was twenty seven years old, and had taken it upon my itty bitty self to issue a “call to action, etc” (complete with “so be it”) some kindly fellow would have had the decency to land a well deserved smack upon my jumped up head.

Where is that oh so public condemnation for those who went after Bob Rae for the crime of …..drum roll….being married to a jew….I have heard squat from the usual suspects (jason may have condemned) but Warren K seems to have been rather silent…publically at least, I am sure he said more privately.

I’m actually the second person ever to be kicked off the Blahg, a badge of honor if ever there was one. There is one good thing that derives from McClelland’s post and the associated comments: it identifies people…both those who hold such views and those valiant defenders of free speach that insist anti-semitism is an exception.
A pox on both your houses. As to the former, they are addlepated inadequates, while the latter are self-righteous control freaks that cannot even define anti-semitism.
If people want to speak foolishness, I much prefer to let them. I then know whom to ridicule and avoid.

Pardon the chemist in me, EBD, but I think that there is at least a degree to which it is the case that mere linguistics are too heavily put upon by the burden of your request for a “word” to clear up the legacy under discussion here. It seems to me that something more along the lines of an “out, out, damn spot”-remover might be more appropriate. Perhaps, say, sodium persulfate.

In the three years or so that I’ve read anything by r.mc, the above description fits very well.
Another observation, the left will delete your comment if it’s in opposition of theirs almost immediately, and often a ban is inclusive. Open and opposing point of views are NOT allowed. Many don’t even have comments.
The sites on the right on the other hand tend to encourage civility before taking such heavy handed but necessary action. After a couple of years, I don’t even bother with the left’s blogs anymore. Perhaps that’s why all the activity is on the right in blogs, besides not being addlebrained in the first place.

I agree with the “no such thing as a little bit pregnant” line. I’d never say anything anti-semitic because I don’t think that way.
That said, it is disgusting that hacks like Kinsella make hay on this. Here’s a guy who’s rightly been called, by Norman Spector, a disgrace to Canadian politics and journalism, who has written a book advocating gutfighter politics and attack ads, and who fronts a “punk” band named “Shit From Hell” getting the opportunity to tee off on someone on his Nixonian enemies list.
Dion issued a statement condemning the attack on Arlene Perle Rae and said that the perpetrators do not belong in the Liberal Party. I’m not sure what else there is to do as a blogger.
For the record, Idd, “addlepated” was written by Tenebris, not me. ‘Tis a lovely word, though, right up there with omphaloskepsis, antejentacular, and nudiustertian, which together mean gazing at one’s navel before breakfast the day before yesterday, sort of like this discussion.

This stuff is pretty vile….you did the right thing by RM. I just think that incident got swept under the rug pretty quickly…being a Liberal it is your house to keep clean. I hope you are a vigilant about it as others.

Seriously though: What has always amazed me, as some have pointed out above, is that some (not all) of the lefty sites tolerate incredible bigotry and potty-mouth; but if you offer a logical concrete argument too often … you’ll get banned. You may get away with it for a while … but don’t push your luck … AXE.
I was amazed to find out that Robbie is 42 years old. I had him pegged as an early twenties post-university commie trying to get a job to match his “peace studies” degree. He’s got that youthful anarchist infantile thing going. I’m having a hard time getting my head around the fact that he’s 42.
