“Satire is dead”

So said “Rick McGinnis, when he forwarded this press release to me yesterday:
Next week on MTV Live (March 5 – March 9): Rocker Ben Kweller, Environmentalist Severn Cullis-Suzuki, Paolo Nutini and more!
Monday, March 5 – MTV Live can’t stop talking about saving the planet! Acclaimed environmentalist Severn Cullis-Suzuki joins hosts Daryn Jones and Aliya-Jasmine Sovani at the Masonic Temple to give the inside scoop on what it’s like to be the daughter of the world’s most famous environmentalist. Plus, we get the dirt on eco-style from internationally acclaimed clothier H&M, who prove that living responsibly and in high style aren’t mutually exclusive with a fashion show from their spanking new organic cotton line. Later, solo rocker Ben Kweller hangs out on the pod before taking the stage to perform from his new self-titled album.

Would that Little Miss Suzuki might say or do something really cool, like run around the studio spraying aerosol cans of hairspray into the air while yelling, “I hate my father! I wish he was dead!!”
“Sophisticated” Canadians mock so-called “inbred” folks in Alabama, but consider it perfectly natural and oh-so-chic that our media and political elites all share the same last names: Mulroney, Trudeau, Richler… What a second-rate country we can be sometimes.

  1. Who was it that said “Canadian is not really a country anyway”…? clue LB

  2. I’m sure H&M’s organic cotton clothes were produced in countries free of human rights violations by union workers earning $15/hour plus health care coverage and pension benefits. And, I’m sure the distinction between “organic” and traditional cotton is unmistakeably clear.
    Right? Hello? Anyone???!?!?

  3. Thanks for the news and super sly post. As an ex-pat living in the mid-west of the US, I am happy to report Canada is a great country, and I hear that daily from US friends and co-workers.
It, therefore, absolutely shames me to tell them of the virulent anti-American in certain sectors back home. But parts of Canadian population, like the infamous MSM here in the US, is so far gone it really is sad. The urban [never urbane!] multi-culti, identity politic practicing crowd at most universities, social agencies, all the Liberal slush funded near “social justice”
groups and CBCPravda have attempted to “rot the barrel.”
But that crowd really are a parody of anything real and effective. What have they really done other than make a lot of noise.

  4. I too want to live in the US. Preferably as a citizen. Would have made my life so much easier!

  5. I find it strange that they refer to Suzuki as “the world’s most famous environmentalist”, because until a few days ago (when he hectored the school kids), I had never heard of the old fool. But hey, maybe it’s because I live in that backwater known as the Washington, D.C. suburbs. Yeah, that must be it.
And as to Canada being “second-rate” sometimes because of the overlap of political and media families, don’t forget we have our Kennedys, Bushes, Tafts, Humphreys, and Mondales. (I think the easiest way to get a congressional seat is to be the child of a former congressman.)

  6. NCF TO (7:53) Only $15/hour???? That’s minimum wage in Alberta… That’s not a fair wage, should probably be closer to 25.
I shudder to see what will happen when union negotiators start keying on Alberta salaries when the next rounds of contract negotiations start across the country.

  7. No to mention our most famous family the Trudeaus. I think Justin got his father’s looks and his mother’s brain.

  8. Certainly is a lot of “inbred” thinking in this nation….and we see the MTV gen are lock step followers rather than critical thinkers.
Promises to be a quisling love in where they all congratulate each other on how enlightened their new fashons and fads are…hollow, anti-intellectual and schlock…that’s what I get from the MTV elites.
I just love the promo…even that is evidence of generational mindlessness : ” Can’t stop TALKIN” about saving the planet”
To these sheltered narccisistic hedonists “Talking” = action…we can see this is not a lead by example Gen.
All I can say is the US is in deep shit if this is what is wating in the wings to run a republic.

  9. “the inside scoop on what it’s like to be the daughter of the world’s most famous environmentalist.”
You mean the fruitfly guy? He is no environmentalist.

  10. Colby Cosh: National Post.
“As for David Suzuki, no one seems to think it should be held against him that he spent decades spreading nonsense about overpopulation and ended up not only being factually wrong but somehow siring five children along the way.” ..-
Environmentalist Severn Cullis-Suzuki: One of Mao Strong’s vestal virgins; the female priesthood of the Greens. Suzuki gave her over to the holy order when she was a young girl. …-
“Severn grew up in beautiful British Columbia, and was inspired to spread the message that each human being is responsible for the state of Mother Earth. In 1992, ECO appeared at Rio’s Earth Summit, and in 1993 Severn received the UN Environment Program’s Global 500 Award at a ceremony in Beijing, China.”
    “Social Activism for Mother Earth
Severn Cullis Suzuki has been an environmentalist and social activist since she was a very young girl. She started the Environmental Children’s Organization (ECO) when she was no more than nine years old. ECO consisted of a small group of young children dedicated to educating themselves and other kids about environmental issues.”

  11. You know Dr. Fruitfly cares because he named his daughter after a river and it’s better to feel correct than actually do anything. That’s why liberals are always planning but never doing.

  12. So Suzuki has 5 children. How does that reduce the carbon footprint? I thought if you really loved the planet you should have no kids. He must be Catholic.

  13. This is a big marketing push….it will be around for a couple of years and die and fade away, largely when the movement either radicalizes or sells out.
I remember there being mass meetings after the TV movie “The Day After”…people were legitimately concerned about nuclear war..the left jumped on it trying to get people to demand unilateral diarmament…cooler heads prevailed and the Soviet Unon collapsed for a number of reasons. One reason was that they faced a determined foe in the US under Reagan.
The econauts of AGW are tapping into a legitimate concern but it is hard to define. Most people think it means cleaner air but are being whipped into a frenzy that we are going to cook ourselves.
    Patently false.
I have said it before….resist for a two years and the whole thing collapse. They cannot maintain this at full throat that amount of time with no confirming evidence…and there is no confirming evidence. I truely believe that we hae peaked, actually did peak 2 summers ago, and that temperatures will moderate or cool.
If I am wrong I will gladly start advocating for AGW change, but right now not ONE prediction has come true from the AGW camp, they are off by orders of magnitude and sometimes even direction. Show me the data and the tests and confirm with predictions and you have another convert….i dont think I am converting anytime soon.

  14. Five kids! Don’t get me wrong, have all the kids you want, but don’t go running your mouth about carbon footprints.
Despte diligent practice, I have yet to uh, sire progeny or bring forth kith or kin. (i have gone forth, but not yet multiplied.)
I’m an enviro saint compared to that thoughtless energy pig.

  15. It’s the sun, son.
Global Warming is the result, Solar Warming is the cause.
Just say no to Solar Warming Denial.

  16. “The world’s most famous environmentalist,”eh? Only if your world mostly consists of your grandmother’s parlour where you and she spend whole days sitting having tea while you improve your minds by watching the CBC. As for the obvious hypocrisy of “eco style” and the googly-eyed near illiteracy of entire press release (are they really this dumb or are they just damn sure their audience is?), I’ll content myself with an extremely loud braying laugh off stage.

  17. Remember the great Peter Sellers movie Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Quit Worrying and Learn to Love the Bomb? There’s a great movie new movie to be made. Dr. Susuki or How I Learned to Quit Worrying and Learned to Love Harper. Who could play the lead role? How about Mr. Dion?

  18. The Suzuki family preaches to the only audience that will listen. Infantile dippers, Lieberals and children. They all have a similar IQ or is that EQ?
Why do you think Suzuki visits elementary schools and has guys like Raffi spouting his nonsense.
An old soviet trick, but it works so well.
And like the kid on YouTube and Severn in her younger days no critic is gonna risk criticizing them because gee they are so damn cute.

  19. I have never in my life heard anyone mock people in Alabama as “inbred”. Doubtless there are people who would do this but I have never come across such behaviour.

  20. While many give in to worry about warming . .
[please, bring some on here in BC today, it*s freeezing.]
You will recall a recent test of several politicians for lead and mercury levels and the results were alarming.
So it*s a diversion away from world poison levels eh? Is yer water safe today?
Easy on the halibut steaks now. Careful with baked potatoe skins, one of the most risky foods. Caution with oranges and grapefruit. They are fast growing and the sprays don*t just stay on the skins.
Some fruit imported from the ME had mercury on the skins. Let*s not talk about apples.
No need for distress. Just be very selective in your food choices and try not to be distracted by *global warning* while pollution nails yer hide.
That*s just food. Coal fired Gen plants by the thousands in China and India, but that*s enough for now.= TG

  21. “I shudder to see what will happen when union negotiators start keying on Alberta salaries when the next rounds of contract negotiations start across the country.”
I recollect in my poverty stricken youth the common cry amongst the auto sector unionboys demand for ‘wage parity’.
huh? dozens of significant differences in tax structure, living costs, exchange rate, prices etc etc, and that gang of protection racket artists want to zero in on ooooone aspect and that is the rate of pay because after all, ignoring all that other stuff is a reaaaaal sweet deal.
and now 40 years later, look what theyve done to themselves with all their unrestrained greed: GM losing billions. ford losing billions, chrysler on the auction block yet again, and losing 100s of millions.
    ‘wage parity’
how about ‘wage parity’ now based on company earning eh guys ???
strictly blue collar mentality, dont ask dont tell about the big picture, just focus and dwell on what suits their narrow selfish ends regardless of the long term.
for these boys long term meant the day after payday when they swung by the beer store and then parked in front of the tv with their werkin’ buddies to watch ‘the game’.
    NOT an exaggeration.

  22. relapsedcatholic never fails to make me laugh out loud – “spraying aerosal cans while yelling I hate my father”
    good one

  23. I can hardly wait for fruit fly two. Just think Canada has two. How nice. USA will want two Al Gores now. Pity the world.

  24. More from PUKIE SUZUKI and the big time eco eletists who cuase more HOT AIR by keeping their big fat pieholes flapping
