A Bad Week To Be Ralph Goodale

After a fruitless chase of the culprits responsible for spiriting away the Ghosts of Liberal Past, Ralph Goodale resumes the hunt…

GOODALE: Well, my question was: was it or was it not? It’s important to get to the bottom of this. The story in the Vancouver Sun appeared to be talking about what would be considered secret security information. That information is secret for a reason yet it’s in the public domain. It needs to be examined very carefully as to how it got there. It was within the ambit of government. Suddenly it’s in the public domain. It is secret security information or at least it purports to be. I think the government has that question to answer.
[..]
REPORTER: Sir, you pinpointed the PMO as the potential source of that information. What evidence do you have, if any?
GOODALE: I asked the question was it or was it not the Prime Minister’s Office. The point is the Prime Minister’s Office is the pinnacle of government. They need to get to the bottom of this.

For (in the words of Lorne Gunter) – another cow pie to step in.

  1. Ralph is a desperate man and it’s taking him down.
He has earned it with his haughty, over the top rantings. He stands little chance of retiring with dignity with his behavior these past months.

  2. Ralph’s self righteous behavior is getting very old. (same as the party he continues to defend!) With Dion at the helm maybe Ralph should have done exactly what Bill Graham did and retire! But, I think he is going to go down with the sinking ship. To bad, so sad for Ralphie!

  3. Ralph Goodale looks like he is desperately clutching at straws to justify his feigned outrage after being proven wrong by Kim Boles, the author of the article in the Vancouver Sun.
Me thinks he dost protest too much.

  4. Now wait. Let’s get the facts. Goodale says that the PMO is the ‘pinnacle of government’. No, no, for a correct linear regression, you’d have to go to the Office of the Governor General. And then, really, to be factual, to the Queen.
Ahh. I knew it. The Queen did it.
Yes, yes, we know that the reporter who wrote the story, ie, the actual Author of the article, has said that there wasn’t any leak; that she’s been researching the Air India case for over 20 years; that she knows all the participants; that she found out the father-in-law relationship via a Sikh acquaintance…but..heck..who believes reporters?
Do you know that, using linear regression, you can involve anyone and anything within your causal link? After all, hmmm, Who Told the Queen?

  5. “GOODALE: I asked the question was it or was it not the Prime Minister’s Office. The point is the Prime Minister’s Office is the pinnacle of government. They need to get to the bottom of this. ”
It is funny how Mr. Goodale believes this, but not when it applies to the Income Trust leak from the Ministry of Finance that happened when he was the minister responsible for that department.

  6. The real story behind Goodales bluster and misdirections lies in the fact that a sitting Liberal MP is a material witness in the air India bombing and his testimony is damaging. I saw the way Goodale jumped Harper in QP when he casually mentioned this and then the flap about pearson’ s shrine was immediately injected into QP to keep the conversation away from this delicate LPC liability on the Air India file.

  7. How can the PMO get to the bottom of this “leak”? They’ve put all their resources into trying to find out who falsely accused Ralphie of impropriety in the Income Trust leak.
Once that gets solved, they’ll be moving on to get to the bottom of the “Pearson cover-up”.
So many outrages! So little time….

  8. AdScam Sheila Copps has a column up which meanders in many directions; she includes the standard Liberal Aunty-American ploy by naming GWB.
Yet, Tequila knows what a leghold trap (approved by the Political Humane Society of Ottawa) is, after the fact, of course. Sheila likes/admires the Trapper from Calgary. …-
PM’s ‘House attack’ aims to win over Sikhs
“Harper succeeded in setting a trap that everyone fell into.” …-
Liberals, including Goody Goodale from Wascana Lake, Regina, have to gnaw their left legs off below the knee, to escape the leghold traps set for them by the Trapper from Calgary.

  9. RobL I just settle for following up on Gomery-Adscam revelations that lead to party upper echelons and the PMO…get those solved then move on the the Grewal tapes, income trust profiteering scams.
The RCMP have a decade of Librano malfeasance to keep them digging 24/7/52

  10. we can hardly wait for the next round of outrage from rabid ralphie. what will be the foam at the mouth topic for the week? msm has dropped the pearson story because it made ralphie and borat d yawn look really bad.

  11. When the new RCMP Commissioner is appointed there should be an inquiry into Goodale’s income trust scandal. What was said at that meeting with his friends from the Investment Dealers Association just before the spike in trading on the TSE and his announcemet on Income Trusts. Who else was at that meeting, Brison perhaps? Maybe even da boss Chretien? People’s from dat power corp ting? Were monogrammed golf balls exchanged over laughs of how they would fleece Canadian’s further through the Kyoto fraud? Former PMPM( aka Seargent Shultz) knows nothing.
    Honest(?) Ralphie, sure.

  12. Ralph: Put brain in gear before opening mouth.
These guys are pretty slow off the mark not to see the trap the MPSH set for them. And, they fell right into it losing another couple of points in credibility (if they have any left).
    Mike

  13. Ralphie Goody, you deranged prairie gopher, it looks like this Kim Bolan might be a little different from your MSM friends at cbcPravda, Red Star, etc. She actually looks for facts rather than having them handed down from on high by the Librano spinmeisters. Too bad for you and worse for your credibility.

  14. While I’ve never voted LPC, I did at one time think Ralph Goodale has some integrity, that he acted in a professional manner. No more. He is the chief shrill LPC mouthpiece. Maybe the Libs wouldn’t have to resort to innuendo smears and be “sickened” by Harper’s approach to judge appointments (it’s just a coincidence that, for over ten years, most appointments by government were Liberals), if they had any policy whatsoever. The Liberals are using all their powder now, and will be exhausted by the time an election is called. The MSM is already showing signs of fatigue.
The truly scary part is that the Liberals are one or two manufactured CPC scandals away from winning power, even with their twit leader. Harper is smart to wait until he has a reasonable chance at a majority before dropping the writ, or forcing opposition to defeat him.
Noticed Suzuki has joined the smear train. Desperate measures for desperate times.

  15. What was stupid was the indignation of the Liberals, which with Goodale is getting pretty hard to swallow, particularly since he hasn’t apologized to Canadians for his incompetent handling of the Income Trust file, where he refused to do an investigation of a possible(some say obvious) leak, which many asked for, because the reasons were so evident to the most naive or uninformed.
At the time Mr. Goodale said his department “was squeaky clean”
Mr. Goodale on national TV assured the Canadian people that there was no leak, and that “The department is very meticulous about these matters.”
Paul Martin the Prime Minister, on national TV, assured Canadians “Mr. Goodale has said there was not a leak from his department”. Mr. Martin acted obviously in a blatant attempt to divert the Canadian people’s attention away from this serious matter and from a blundering Finance Minister.
Since they have been proven wrong why no apology? Only an arrogant Liberal like Goodale would have the chutzpah and ask that Canadians should apologize to him instead.
Someone has to advise the Liberals that their thespian talents are not there strong suit, and an Oscar at the Academy Awards will forever be a distant dream, but they are succeeding in turning a lot of stomachs of Canadians, who have to watch those amateur dramatics of indignation.

  16. It is too bad that Goodale does politics as he does.
Goodale is one of the best the liberals have, way ahead of anyone currently in the game and would have done much good if he stuck to the truth. Now he speaks for soundbites and ‘is no good’. It is curious how perfectly normal people at other times, look like real idiots, trying to make political points. A question to be asked is ‘Do they relize that actual people do get to hear what they say?’
Some times and much when they talk for the media, specially the live media, they go on and don’t know when to stop.
It is a verifieable fact that when politicians talk too long, eventually, as every person, will start talking stupid. Only few exceptions to the rule can go on longer.
It is quite sad that all politicians qualify.
The advice would be, state your case and STFU.
    Sorry for being obscene.

  17. Mr. Goodale is an honorable man and an excellent MP. It is obvious by the comments above that none of the writers have ever had anything positive to say about a liberal. Stephen Harper and co. are only interested in what is best for their ideology and not what is best for Canada. Harper, once again, proved that last week with his character assassination. “Canada’s New Government” has proven to be a failure, in that, they are no closer to a majority than they were a year ago. The electorate, for many good reasons, will never give Harper a majority!

  18. well steve would an honorable man stand and cry wolf about the pearson peace prize when the liberals have covered it up many times themselves??? i think not…ralphie used to be known as the last honest liberal politician but he has lowered himself to the rest of libs. he is now AVERAGE. the best of the worst, the worst of the best, the CREAM OF THE CRAP!!!!!!

  19. Ever seen a Cruton/Martin appointee who wasn’t an outright FLAKE? Would YOU accept an appointment from either of these two hairballs?

  20. Ralph must have been on valium today. He was calm and IMO was trying to do a backtrack on the terror bill. If the govt makes changes, maybe the liberals would consider it. I think they know they went way over the top last week, and their internal polling shows they are in serious trouble. I can’t believe the attempts liberal blog posters are making to support what the did.
Libs would support extending this law for 6 mos to allow the Air India inquiry/investigation to go forward. Don’t think it will work. They painted themselves into a corner without thinking, just like they elected Dion just to keep Iggy and Rae out. One guy even suggested that Dion not be allowed to speak on TV etc without written notes, as his written pieces are clear, consice and show leadership. Too bad he can’t speak english.
