It appears Czech President Vaclav Klaus has a lukewarm view of the global warming hysteria:
Q: IPCC has released its report and you say that the global warming is a false myth. How did you get this idea, Mr President?
A: It’s not my idea. Global warming is a false myth and every serious person and scientist says so. It is unfair to refer to the U.N. panel. It’s not a scientific institution: it’s a political body, a kind of non-government organization of green flavor. It’s neither a forum of neutral scientists nor a balanced group of scientists. These people are politicized scientists who arrive there with a one-sided opinion and a one-sided assignment. Also, it’s an undignified slapstick that people don’t wait for the full report in May 2007 but instead respond in such a serious way to the summary for policymakers where all the “but’s” are scratched, removed, and replaced by oversimplified theses. …
Environmentalism and green ideology is something very different from climate science. Various findings and screams of scientists are abused by this ideology.…
Q: Don’t you believe that we’re ruining our planet?
A: I will pretend that I haven’t heard you. Perhaps only Mr. Al Gore may be saying such a thing: a sane person can’t.
Professor Klaus doesn’t seem to have much respect for the politically correct fashionable doomsaying sweeping the rest of Europe. The rest of the interview is well worth the read.

If PMSH said this what would be the fallout. This is the first leader with the guts to tell it like it is. Loved his reference algore. I do think the truth is getting out to the general public and when the libs & ndp are anihilated in the coming election it will be a non issue.
LMAO!
The man Spoke my mind…….
Just have to add the name Maurice Strong….and that’s how I have felt since Y2Kyoto started.
Maybe there is hope for the FREE world yet……
Naughty, naughty, Kate.
If Stephane Dion views this interview and has it translated for him, he might suffer another anxiety attack…
Uh. Is he a Professor or a President? Or both? I’m pretty sure one of those is a mistake….
mary T: If PMSH said this what would be the fallout
Well, he’d probably lose his job in the next election. But, at least the debate would be forced wide open…and he would be set for the biggest “I told you so” in the history of the country…even though it would take 20 years…at least the initial fallout would make it a thing to be remembered.
Klaus refers to “politicized scientists”.
In fact, they were more; they were “invited scientists”.
…-
Disinvited?
Is that a word? I’m not sure but I think it conveys a negative connotation better than uninvited. I mentioned in my last post that one of the leading researchers in the world on hurricanes, Chris Landsea, was not invited to write the hurricane section of the latest global warming summary from IPCC. I’d like you to read this article written about him in a Canadian publication, National Post. The author interviewed Chris Landsea (what a great name for someone who works at the Hurricane Center) before the latest IPCC report was published last week.
I heard both Kevin Trenberth (also mentioned in the article) and Chris Landsea speak at the AMS conference I attended in San Antonio. It was my impression, and the impression of those around me, that Landsea gave a very convincing talk that no connection could be made between global warming and recent hurricane intensity in the Atlantic.
The World Meteorological Society held a workshop last December in Costa Rica on this subject. The conference was attended by 125 scientists from 34 countries. Their conclusion:
A consensus of 125 of the world’s leading tropical cyclone researchers and forecasters says that no firm link can yet be drawn between human-induced climate change and variations in the intensity and frequency of tropical cyclones.
I guess the folks at IPCC disagree. Their summary clearly says on page 5 “there is observational evidence for an increase of intense tropical cyclone activity in the North Atlantic’.
The literature is so full of conflicting research as to be mind boggling. I guess the IPCC’s way to get a consensus is to not invite those who disagree with you in the first place.

On 2003-11-25, Arnaud de Borchgrave wrote, at UPI:
“Last week, the European Court of Auditors in Luxembourg released a 400-page report that found “systematic problems, over-estimations, faulty transactions, significant errors and other shortcomings” in the EU’s budget. EU’s auditors could only vouch for 10 percent of the $120 billion the EU spent in 2002. It was also the ninth successive year the auditors were unable to certify the budget as a whole.
“Europeans are yet to face such “serious underlying issues,” [Czech President Vaclav] Klaus said, because “they are still in the dream world of welfare, long vacations, guaranteed high pensions, and cradle-to-grave social security, which obviates the imperative need to face” reality.
“The biggest challenge for the Czech republic, Klaus said, is how to avoid falling into the trap of “a new form of collectivism.” Asked whether he meant a new form of neo-Marxism, he said, “absolutely not, but I see other sectors endangering free societies.”
“The enemies of free societies today are those who want to burden us down again with layer upon layer of regulations,” president Klaus explained. “We had that in Communist times.”
sarge here. don’t worry, everything is fine…just hum a little louder.

Bravo,
I’m heartened that this crazy campaign to whip up climate change hysteria is showing signs of overreaching itself.
Some of you might appreciate this episode of Penn and Teller: Bullsh*t!, on Environmental Hysteria (NSFW (language)). I think it’s definitely worth a watch:

I like the line about “but’s being scratched”. So that’s what they’re up to!
Uh. Is he a Professor or a President? Or both? I’m pretty sure one of those is a mistake….
Actually, he is both the Czech Republic’s second president and quite an accomplished professor.
Always double check the bottom of the post to see who authoried it, folks – this post is Kevin’s.
He’s been posting a few times a week per my invitation.
“It is unfair to refer to the U.N. panel. It’s not a scientific institution: it’s a political body, a kind of non-government organization of green flavor. It’s neither a forum of neutral scientists nor a balanced group of scientists.”
WHOA…Vaclav Klaus. Tell it like it is!!
I’m just waiting for the ultimate putdown from our enlightened pseudo Compassionate Climate Change scientists/pundits:
“Well, what does he know? He’s just the Czech President?” which is what very many of our very enlightened Western bishops used to say when John Paul the Great spoke out: “What does he know? He’s just the Polish Pope!”
Well, yeah. And probably a saint, too.
The impact of cosmic rays on the climate could be greater than scientists suspect after experiments showed they may have a pivotal role in cloud formation.
Researchers have managed to replicate the effect of cosmic rays on the aerosols in the atmosphere that help to create clouds. Henrik Svensmark, a weather scientist in Denmark, said the experiments suggested that man’s influence on global warming might be rather less than was supposed by the bulk of scientific opinion.
Cosmic rays — radiation, or particles of energy, from stars, which bombard the Earth — can create electrically charged ions in the atmosphere that act as a magnet for water vapour, causing clouds to form.
Dr Svensmark suggests that the Sun, at a historically high level of activity, is deflecting many of the cosmic rays away from Earth and thus reducing the cloud cover…

sarge –
Yeah, so… what’s your point? We’re going to run out of honey because of global warming?
Ho hum.
On another note, Steyn’s latest on AWG – worth a read

That’s great. I just became a big fan of Mr. Klaus. His 82 percent approval rating in the Czech Republic is understandable.
…because of Global Warming, it’s -16c (~2F)here in Calgary.
…can’t wait till Global Cooling hysteria arrives so things start warming up…
…CONSPIRACY ALERT!
Breaking news, BSM has discovered the Czech President’s first name is really “SANTA”.
No wonder he’s denying Global Warming…
Sarge,
Regarding the bees, frankly I think bees are much more important than climate change hysteria.
That’s one of the main blowbacks of the campaign promoting ‘evil humans’ climate change hysteria, there’s no shortage of issues that get ignored or buried.
Bees being one.
Tomax7 you beat me and probably dozens of others to it. Does this country have a special day to celebrate, aka July 1, so we can all send a thank you card to them or to their embassy if they have one in Ottawa. I think the first shot has been fired in the war on global warming. We have to finish the job. Hope someone has fwd this to Dion and Holland and Baird. I have some czech neighbors, maybe I should invite them for supper.
Dear tomax7, your finding about Santa is indeed correct :-), see the last picture at
http://motls.blogspot.com/2006/12/santa-claus-vs-baby-jesus.html
Alex, the last time Klaus was teaching a full course (Principle of economic reasoning) was Fall 2005 (while being president). The first lecture was quite an event. If you learned Czech :-), see
http://www.ilist.cz/clanky/libovali-si-studenti-i-prezident
As many have found out,its one thing to start a slow down of an economy but its another thing to stop a meltdown as happened in 1929.Mr.Dion better be careful with what he is advocating.
This is unfair!
Kate, do you have any idea how hard it is to set priorities – such as, should I read this post first, or the one about Chairman Mo Strong first?
Why can’t setting priorities be izzy?
Mr. Klaus also said: “To pursue a so-called Third Way is foolish. We had our experience with this in the 1960s when we looked for a socialism with a human face. It did not work, and we must be explicit that we are not aiming for a more efficient version of a system that has failed.”
Klaus is a right wing economist. It’s obvious that he is preaching to the converted here…his opinions on the environment will not be taken seriously anywhere else except right wing forums.
If it’s that obvious Iberia why do you bother posting here?
Sad but true. Unfortunately lberia is correct.
A bird with only one wing cannot fly, Iberia.
Ummm…how hard is it to get Czech citizenship? Sounds like they could be the next libertarian country.
Hope this mans book will be available in Canada, sounds like a must read. Things are starting to align up ok. Mo being outed and talked about with all his connections to the liberals, This article, and Jane giggles actually accusing the liberals of flipflopping on QP today re their changed stand on the laws they themselves enacted re terrorism after 9/11. These laws are set to expire this week and Harper introduced a motion to extend them for 5 years and liberals are opposed to it. They were still in favor of them in Oct. What a difference a leader makes.
Mary T: “I have some czech neighbors, maybe I should invite them for supper.” — Do that!
Bruce:
Why? To provide a small dose of reality.
Vitruvius:
Exactly!
Heh, your reality.
It isn’t global warming it’s more likely heightened solar activity. Mars is getting warmer too, wanna make a guess as to what the primary component of the Mars atmosphere is?
My reality is that the Kyoto Accord is a money laundering scheme.
…and that right wing politicians have very little credibility when it comes to environmental issues.
Iberia…what have left wing politicians ever done for the environment??? Just curious.
…and that LEFT wing politicians have very little credibility when it comes to EVERY issue.
As far as I know, science shouldn’t have a left-wing or a right-wing.
MSM has been throwing this global warming, climate change, climate injustice, etc. etc. turkey in the air so much, not only does it appear to fly – it looks like it’s flying in formation.
johnboy: “…what have left wing politicians ever done for the environment???”
Killed off hundreds of millions of polluters.
pretty sure david suzuki and his friends will accuse dr. klaus of being funded by the oil companies. thats their story on all deniers.
Speaking of David Suzuki- Maurice Strong is on the Board of Directors of the Suzuki Foundation.
WHO funds the Suzuki Foundation you ask? Coud open a few eyes upon review.
WHO made David Suzuki “famous” (Hint: Liberal CBC)
Suzuki cannot debunk Kyoto no matter what he personally believes – his fix is assured. His masters have already “told” him what to say.
It is propaganda, and we Canadians are no smarter than the citizens of other socialist/communist regimes. Maurice Strong – hob knobs with North Korea, Cuba and Communkst China.
Our “capitalism” is only allowed inso mcuh as these people can milk us dry.
Didn’t some Canadian bureaucrat simply invite everyone to move to the Northwest Territories years ago after the tundra thaws out? What’s the problem? Maybe hockey will be popular again, if there’s any ice left.
The voice of sanity cuts through the logic challenged, fetid air of Europe. Thank-you for that breath of truly fresh air, Kate.
I love the Presidents line ‘I’ll pretend that I haven’t heard you……..Saying essentially ‘I don’t suffer fools with grace and if you want to keep your childish ego intact – clear out!! No wonder he has 82 per cent support – this man is an adult.
Maybe it’s just me, but has anyone else here noticed that Al Gore and all the ecocultists seem to be getting as creepy as Scientologists?
Is Al becoming the L. Ron Hubbard of the 21st Century?
Is “An Inconvenient Truth” just another take on “Dianetics”?
I think we should be told.
looks like the madness is taking a firm root in Ontario…chimpy mcliar is now running “recycling is good” advertisements…must be his contribution to the environmental hysteria being propogated by the moonbat/dipper/librano crowd…he is also holding up a building permit for a nuclear power plant…as well, the idiot is thinking of adopting citoyen dion’s reverse discrimination tactics re female candidates…this brain fried librano disease must be contagious!
“It isn’t global warming it’s more likely heightened solar activity. Mars is getting warmer too, wanna make a guess as to what the primary component of the Mars atmosphere is?

Somebody please help me out here. A google search didn’t offer any answers.
What year did the industrial revolution start on Mars?
How much fossil fuel is consumed on Mars annually?
Will there be the possibility for an inter-planetary exchange of carbon credits?
As I have said before on this form….the former Warsaw pact nations have more in common with America than they do the EU ( or Canada for that matter)…this guy sees that if his nation is to continue striving for 1st-world economic viability and sovereignty he can’t be selling his nation’s productivity out to hysterical fantasies popular with the idle Starbucks crowd.
He realizes an economy is a terrible thing to waste on chasing ghosts and placating smug yuppy guilt and insecurity…because he knows Kyoto for what it is…a fiscal salve to soothe a hollow soul…a payment system for decadent urban green guilt…a crusade to associate with for the vacant neo-pagan urban left.
Fortunately the emerging 1st world economy in this man’s nation will not be hampered by the misplaced guilt of a dysfunctional urban left.
BTW: Czech beer is the best on the planet…keep up the good work! 😉
