I don’t think we have to look too far before the reason for this direction in cinema to be apparent.
In the earlier thread on this subject I mentioned that today thousands upon thousands of kids pour into Hollywood, not with visions of movie stardom, but to become part of the adult film industry.
And it is an industry. It pulls in well over $3 billion a year, and I haven’t checked for a while, so it could be $6 or $7 billion.
In fact, now so many kids are trying to get into adult films that there is not enough market to accomodate their business plans. When you consider shelf space, the number of buyers for DVDs, adult porn web sites, etc., there is literally a glut in the market.
Today these porno people actually have contracts with major studios that back their films. They bring in investors. A lot of people in the technical side of cinema go back and forth between porn and legitimate films.
Say, a lighting specialist or a makeup artist may be working on a Biblical film today and a porno film tomorrow. A famous port actress was almost made the official spokeswoman for Gillette, and she would have been successful, but for Bill O’Reilly’s very public objections. She recently sold her production company for multi-millions… it may be a publicly traded company — I’m unsure.
I could go on, but I’m just trying to demonstrate that this is a huge, multi-billion-dollar business.
You don’t have to be a brain surgeon to see that the legitimate film market sees that enormous megabucks are pouring into an industry where they cannot legitimately compete. And with porn ready to exploit every sexual situation the mind of humanity is capable of dreaming up, the legitimate cinema sees itself as losing money like water going down a drain.
They feel they can only tap into some of this vital market if they can stretch the envelope enough to start raking in some of the dollars that otherwise might go to Hollywood’s shadow industry, the porn business.
There are already crossover “artists” like Tracy Lords who started in the porn business as a 17-year-old and now is married to that guy who produced Pink Flamingos. She’s had moderate success in her own right as an actress in a string of films.
So the bottom line on all this is that the average movie goer is something like a 25- or 26-year-old guy with his date, and they are the ones shelling out most of the money for the adult videos.
And all this is one of the reasons that I’m a conservative and not a libertarian, because I believe that people in society do have a right do determine what they regard as decency and what they regard as support for new generations of children.
Peggy Noonan once said that in the past you relied on society to help raise your children, but today you do everything you can to protect your children from society.

If you believe the article, that this is a long standing practice, then how do you relate it to gay marriage being legalized 2-3 years ago on another continent?
Let’s apply a little logic here. Before gay marriage was legal, these places existed. To imply cause and effect from legalization of gay marriage is not only illogical, it’s ridiculous.
I fully supported the Conservative party and Stephen Harper. I even did commentary on CBC TV wearing a Homos for Harper t-shirt. Yet, using your the same flawed logic, people could claim we didn’t heard of this type of place before Harper was in power; therefore, the Conservatives must be responsible for it.
How about we act together to pass laws in our own country to make sure it doesn’t happen here? That’d be a new approach, Canadians actually working together to get things done instead of constantly whining about who’s fault it is that nothing moves forward.

Paedophilia has been normalized for years, its called the Catholic Church. As to bestiality, well I don’t see it taking off in popularity. If anything it was probably more popular in humanities past than it is now in these more progressive times.
I’m surprised that no earnest progressive liberal has yet chimed in here that it’s just a matter of time until researchers discover the bestiality gene.
