Yo Hugo! How do you say "Mother of all political defeats" In Spanish?

Geezuz , they have msm there too . probly make the cbc look right-wing.

Just like anything dont let the rallies fool you. Glad to see so many anti Chavez demonstrators.

Problem is are there enough? Hugo draws on the rural parts and has made an enemy out of the oil producing province....we shall see. There is always hope.

Mind you as long as it is free and fair...I am sure we all have our doubts

If, like me, you don*t have time to understand Venezuela with all the other stuff going on, this site will help.

Scroll down 3/4 past many photo posts.
See what huge oil wealth buys?
You can imagine the weapons reserve too.

Those of you who speak Spanish - did you catch him giving away what the opposition is really all about? I hope so.

He said that the government has $56 billion dollars in liquid money (reserves) and that those in power wouldn't give up access to that money without a fight. Of course, if the people had any interest in stealing that money why would they have put it in reserves in the first place? They could have just stolen it right up front.

Rather, I think it is the opposition and scum like this journalist who are looking at all that money that Chavez's oil policies (which he is getting sued for, see the previous post) brought in and are just salivating.

Remember these are the same people who robbed the country blind under the previous governments by looting the banks and ripping off all the other government money they could get their hands on.

Now they see this $56 billion and they have to be dying - it is so near, yet soooo far. "If only we could get power for a few months" they must be thinking to themselves. **

no coverage on the MSM , what a surprise.

Chavez's core supporters are the great illiterate umwashed, those easily targeted dupes that cynical lefties desperately need as a power base. They are promised utopia, get a free ride for awhile, then, the real life forces of capitalism levels the Grand Scam until the cycle repeats again.

Somehow I doubt that the responsible middle class is going to win against this vacuous squalor, just by the numbers, that Chavez has capitalized on.

Is there any place on the global where colonial Spain placed a flag that isn't dysfunctional?

They've changed the story now to have a closeup picture of what I assume the actual protest was.

it has been an "interesting" 3 weeks for me here in Anaco, Venezuela. 2 more weeks to go... the media here is so divided, searching out for the truth is a hopeless endeavour. www.vcrisis.com and Alek Boyd is at least offering "proof of fotos", there really is no comparison with Canada´s "media". see his site for a link to the list of so many people on the voting list that are +100 years old, something like 45,000 people here and some granny on the voting list that is 175 years. Who knew that "Arepas" were so healthy...?
The only english speaking people I have met have been oil y gas workers from both Edmonton and Devon.. they simply can not understand why I would visit here and not sit on a beach.

The fear factor in voting is real. so many people are dependent on government Bolivars that the fear of saying who you really support is quite startling. even in coffee shops, people want to know from me who I support before they commit to stating anything... the suspicion of everything is something that as a canadian I have difficulty understanding.
One of Alek´s recent posts deals well with the difference between a poll, and a private poll.

I love how in Turkey , the historical core of early Christianity, Muslims get all upset by a friendly _visit_ from the Pope.

Relax already, you intolerant jerks.

Too bad that Chavez will steal the election, no matter what the votes really are. Why else do you think he bought millions of AK-47's? He's not aiming to arm his neighbors, just his peasant friends, meanwhile providing them with Bolivars for a few months, until his courts declare him 'President for Life', a favorite term of Marxist dictators.

After all, Fidel Castro, Hugo's hero, was the inventor of the term in countries south of the U.S. border.

A confident prediction: Chavez will steal the election and Jimmy Carter will come out and approve it, saying it was more honest than the US 2000, 2004 presidential elections.

In short, a Latin leftist fascist thug enabled by an American leftist idiot.

True story: 4 weeks ago in Barinas, Venezuela

The police came into our company shop and demanded to see the ID's of all the Venezuelan nationals. At the end of it all, they told 9 people, all engineers, that they had to leave the country indefinitely. Their crime? Voting against Chávez in the referendum in 2004. The general labourers did not have to leave. I imagine that a different type of intimidation is used for them.

The company in turn asked the state oil company, PDVSA to write letters to the government asking for the engineers to stay in the country, as they provide essential services to maintain the production of oil and gas. In the end, 5 left the country.

I wonder if the signs read HUGO CHAVEZ NUMER 1 RAT FINK AND ROTTER this is what you will never see in SAN FRANCISCO
