Ryerson student newspaper, The Eyeopener;
As the largest student group on campus, the Muslim Students’ Association has made its presence known in student politics. Former MSA vice-president Muhammad Ali Jabbar is heading up the RSU, thanks to support from the MSA. The group has monopolized use of the multifaith room, putting the true meaning of the room’s name in jeopardy.Through its renewed fight against Islamophobia, the MSA has also been criticized as being increasingly polarized and turning the RSU’s attention mostly toward Muslim issues. Smaller religious groups with less influence have been left wondering when their needs will be addressed.
A variety of religious groups on campus have said they have felt uncomfortable trying to use the multifaith room.
Eric Da Silva, president of the Catholic Student Association, says the group looked into using the room for mass but was told by RSU front desk staff that the room was “permanently booked” by Muslim students.
h/t to Stella, in the comments.

I hope that the other faith groups seek legal action. This is so disturbing
For one faith to block access to multifaith facility is totally unacceptable in a civil society that has been built upon a foundation of liberal democratic principles
Good job for bringing this to our attention
That room should be renamed to "muslim prayer room" or whatever they call it. Multifaith room. Yeah, right.
Assuming that you could find a responsible person at Ryerson......it's high time that someone responsible said " Enough! "
Failing that a lawsuit would be perfectly appropriate!
There were those that aided the Nazi's too. Thought that somehow this would make them OK. The results of it are history.
Welcome to Islamada. We stand on guard for thee!
I guess if you're gonna hit the prayer mat 5 times a day there would be no time for other faiths to use the facility.
This really is an eyeopener and a lawsuit is totally appropriate. Hit these greedy Muslim son of a bitches in their Islamist terrorist bank accounts.
As a Ryerson graduate, Photography '72, I'm deeply offended.
Heh, this is easy. Just like we solved the sharia law threat by levelling the playing field by getting rid of the unproblematic Jewish arbitration, have NO religious prayer rooms. You wanna be a fundamentalist nutbar? Go out on the sidewalk and pray silently while maybe having a smoke. You can move your lips, tho, if necessary. There is no place for prayer rooms in the university or anywhere else but the church, synogogue and mosque.
This has got to be part of the global jihad: we're dying of terminal silliness!
Robert Spencer writes that when Mohammed was setting out the parameters of Islam, he freely copied practices from other religions. For example, Jews pray n times per day, they face Jerusalem when doing so, can’t eat bacon, have their sons circumcised, etc.
Mo originally wanted his followers to pray much more often than 5 times a day - can’t remember offhand what that number was … 100 maybe? - but was persuaded by his friends that no one would be able to get any work done. So in the end he settled on 5.
Imagine if he went with his original idea.
Their first mistake was going to Ryerson. Get a real degree r-tards.
The second, letting the student association be co-opted by a religious group. Muslims just cannot wrap their heads around the concept of seperation of church and state.
is their any place on that campus where my children could do their 'infidel' boogie????? i mean, it is their right, is it not?????never heard of it????we take a bible, koran, jewish book, hindu book, hubbard's book, put them in a pile, and dance around it....makes about as much sense as any other religious ceremony being held on public property.....NO RELIGION ON CAMPUS
Sounds like we need to expel some moors...
Sigh
Why don't we just surrender? Get it over with. Political Correctness has made us all the victims of those who would never consider PC as a lifestyle.
All of our societal institutions are going down this very same path. Like it or not, we will all soon be dhimmis in our own country.
Jack Layton can sign the unconditional surrender papers. It will be a fitting end to what used to be our common sense society.
When are the North American masses going to put down the new Play station 3 or whatever and pay attention?
http://counterterrorismblog.org/
It is spreading and I bet they can*t believe how we are sleeping through it.= TG
Unbelievable, This great progressive country being overrided by religious fundamentalists, when will we get off our hands and see the light!!! Maybe Ryerson should solve the problem by getting the multifaith room a liquor license and maybe a hotdog stand (no beef here!!)
Let us not forget that Ry-High has the dubious honor of including Wendy Cukier of gun control fame on their staff.
If they'll employ Windy Wendy, its no surprise they'll follow the latest in Leftish fashion with the "multi-faith" room.
Besides, what kind of dumb-@ss outfit has a "multi-faith" room instead of a chaple? I mean, you can let the other kids use the room but call it what it is, eh?
I think that people are slowly starting to wake-up.The dutch & aussies are are starting to say WTF!?! Pointing out 1 group is not the way western societies have been raised since shortly after WWII. However, that singling out is sometimes necessary for our survival as a culture. I think that time is now.
That problem is not that Canadians are "soft" as in "tolerant". The problem is that they're soft-headed, because they mistook education for some kind of great socialist mission which must be funded by taxpayers and controlled by politicians and bureaucrats. Once this original mistake was made - to create a vast public commons called "the education system" - it was only a matter of time before the commons is spoiled.
If you declared all automobiles to be some kind of sacred public trust to be equally accessible "by all", would you be surprised if the most obnoxious bullies in your town ended up monopolizing their use?
If you don't like being robbed and pushed around, then stop leaving your property out in public where thieves and ruffians can claim it.
This was just sent to me.
I was just talking to my daughter who is a student at E.C. Drury High School. She told me that the school has set up a Muslim Prayer Room on Fridays so the kids can pray. Makes me think back when they took the lords prayer out of the schools because school is no place for religion. (You know, I am sooooo mad).
Also, the school was doing some Charity work (Operation Christmas Child). The Halton School Board has put a hold on it because it is promoting Christian propaganda.
What next????
The Eyeopener quotes a University of Alberta prof stating that things are exactly the opposite there. Not exactly.
I was a chaplain at the University of Alberta for several years, and we had plenty of interaction with the MSA, who were generally friendly.
The religious meeting space the the U of A is primarily used by the MSA. It wasn't that way at first but now most Christian groups prefer to meet elsewhere anyway (partly because of this), but they have the majority of the bookings in that space.
We had a Muslim chaplain, who was not a cleric, but an elderly, wealthy, businessman who was fairly active in the Interfaith community. However, the MSA wanted nothing to do with him, and told us on several occasions. When he passed away and an even more liberal Muslim was appointed chaplain, some mosques in the city wrote to us demanding that he be removed and that the president of the MSA (an undergraduate student) be installed as the Muslim chaplain. (Howls of derisive laughter, Bruce)
Overall they have been fairly easy to get along with, except for a time about 10 years ago when they were offended by a Christian speaker, a convert from Islam, who tortured for his conversion. His words were not so pretty and afterwards everyone came down hard on him. The chaplains apologized to the MSA, who then brought forth a list of demands, which included things like renouncing belief in the divinity of Christ.
Not sure what things are like there now.
Following up on Griswold's comment, I am a current chaplain at the U of Alberta (Griswold - I wonder if we know each other?). I'd agree that Butko's comments in the article are rather puzzling - the current schedule for multi-faith room usage is publicly posted; and the MSA is one of the most frequent users of the space.
Geez, we have lots of things going on in Iraq and Lebanon but the real front line on the War between Christianity and Islam is a rec room at Ryerson.
In the interests of "diversity" and all that, Ryerson should discontinue the multifaith facility and instead designate it as a madrassa.
Well, Jose, I guess you'll have to learn to use the "search" function. There are plenty of posts here on both, plus a bonus - the top of page at the moment is on Iran.
I attend Ryerson. I report at Ryerson. (I had nothing to do with this story, though.)
I feel the need to clarify some points. The multifaith room is not controlled by Ryerson administration. The common story at campus papers at Ryerson for years was how they wouldn't provide prayer space. This prayer space -- which the Muslim students decry as being insufficient -- is a product of the students' union, who, like most (student) political groups, will do anything to get voted in. In this case, the students in power for the last two years savvily determined that Muslims make up 10 per cent of the student body at RyeHigh and are more likely to vote than asian or white students, who make up the majority. And who don't vote at all because they realize people running are essentially useless to them.
The students in the students union don't care about the Muslim population. They just keep them sated to retain their votes. The Rye students union is just in there to propulgate the doctrine of the CFS. And, like everything in student politics at Ryerson, it always comes back to that scary political machine.
I guess I sound like a conspiracy theorist. But anyone who has an awareness of CFS and its ways gets galvanized into one of two groups: the petrified and the dogmatic. The Ryerson Students Union would be hardpressed to do anything bad religiously since they're so dogmatically engrossed in CFS.
Hi dudes:
I'm starting a libertarian campus club dedicated to the proposition that dead Moslems are far far preferable to living ones. The inititation rite for my club is everybody has to kill a Moslem. Okay? The best way I can think of is to find a Moslem bitch in hijab, douse her with gasoline & set the cunt on fire. Oh, sweet.
Drop on by for literature to join my boffo club. Remember, Moslems aren't going away. We gotta kill these fuckers if we want any peace.
Chao dudes!
Steve
"...but the real front line in the war between Christianity and Islam..." - Jose
You mean the war between Islam and everybody else on the face of the earth don't you? Or are you really that ignorant? If so, you ought to talk to Hindu's, Buddhists, Animists, Zoharians, Athiests, Agnostics, etc, etc, etc.
Once again, the intolerant behaviour of colonists, attempting to establish their supremist ideology, rather than thankful immigrants (like the rest) attempting to fit in.
