Syrian Coup Underway In Lebanon

As usual, the go-to guy on this is Michael Totten. Read it all;

UPDATE: Abu Takla in the comments says "one more to go, not 2. If they assassinate one more minister, the cabinet is automatically dissolved, because it would lack the two-thirds + 1 it needs to be constitutional."

UPDATE: Another member of Lebanon's political cabinet, Michel Pharaon was targetted with assassination today. He survived. But if the bastards had gotten him, the government would have fallen and stage one of the coup would be over.

More from Claudia Rosset
While heads of state ritually deplore the assassination of a Lebanese cabinet member, Pierre Gemayel, there is nothing to stop the next murder — as the people who have spoken out for a free and independent Lebanon are picked off. It’s a sinister twist, that while so much of the global debate consists of battering America for acting as the world’s top cop, America on many vital fronts is right now doing no such thing. Following last year’s Cedar Revolution, Lebanon has once again been left, for all practical purposes, in the hands of Syria, Iran and the United Nations — a mix that spells more murders of Lebanese democrats, no chance for Lebanese democracy, and the triumphant consolidation of a fascist-terrorist front bordering on Israel, with tentacles reaching into Europe and the Americas. What we need right now in Washington is a Winston Churchill, not the report of a study group co-chaired by James Baker III.

Lebanon in mourning: Independence Day celebrations off

Ynetnews - 2 hours ago

Country's 63rd Independence Day celebrations planned for Wednesday cancelled following murder of Minister Gemayel. Newspapers point accusing finger at Damascus: Culprit is same culprit, victim is same victim' (google news)

A Statement is not, not, expected to be released

from/by Liberal MP Denis Coderre,

"We Are All Hezbollah Now".

Coderre is the co-chairman of Liberal, wannabe leader/Prime Minister of Canada, M. Ignatieff's national campaign (Quebec)organization.

Nasrallah is behind the Hezbollah inspired assassinations. Destabilize a democratic Lebananon and then take control of the government; so they can begin using Lebanon as another Iranian backed launching pad to 'wipe Israel off the map'.

Holocaust Part Deux coming to a jewish settlement in the near east. They don't want peace its just a stepping stone to killing more jews.

Why else would Hezbollah hold rallies in which the chant is "Death to Israel"?

Where is Kofee Annan Now?

I am thoroughly sick and tired of these people and their aspirations. I never thought I'd say this but I believe they should be nuked into oblivion.
They advocate wiping an entire country and It's citizens off the map, and we in the West just sit around and wring our hands. The majority of members at the UN appear to sympathize with these Islamic cutthroats as well so don't expect any help from them.
Today Israel.
Tomorrow the World?

NO NO NO, LOOK THIS WAY!

Gay Marriage!

Racism!

The Homeless!

Glowball Worming!

There is NO TERRORIST THREAT!

It's time for the Lebanese to take it to the streets again just like it's time for the Russians, who have been passively watching Putin re-Stalinize the country and assassinate opponents/journalists at will, to take it to the streets.

America can't be alone the world's legal enforcer and liberator. Maybe I'm having a bad hair day, but, I'm loosing patience with the world's sheeple, their collective helplessness as they rot with fascist despots, their refusal to use the one enduring tool of change which is getting off of their knees and start marching on Main Street. In the day and age of the internet and cellphones large numbers of people can be mobilized in an instant. It worked in the Ukraine, Georgia and it worked once before in Lebanon.

I do not believe this is the doing of Syria--Israel is doing this same thing in Gaza--same modus operandi to defeat a democratically elected government.

Now is the time for the Lebanese people to stand against Hezbollah and show the world that they reject this terrorist group as their government. The problem is that too many Lebanese DESIRE Hezbollah as their government. These people are united by one thing, a viseral hatred of Jews and an insane determination to kill them all. Other than that they are just peachy. Canada has invited so many of them to live in Canada that we can now see the results in the words of Denis Coderre. "We are all Hezbollah now". No Coderre, we are all JEWS now.

no Katherine, we are all INFIDELS now....and as far as the extremist nut-jobs are concerned, we all deserve to die equally as much...NO TO SHARIA LAW....GO ARMY

So if Syria occupies Lebanon, will the left march naked in the streets, throwing bombs at cops, demanding an end to the occupation of Lebanon by Syria?

Oh, wait a minute... of course, the answer is no. Syria already occupied Lebanon and the left didn't care, nor did the Lebanese send their kids into Syrian pizza parlors, marketplaces and buses to blow up themselves and Syrians.

Double standard! Why is "Palestine" supposedly "occupied" whereas Lebanon wasn't? (There is really no "Palestine"; it's just a concept, a convention... and there's no occupation, other than Muslims living on Israeli land)

Could it be a Muslim thing? Ok for Muslims to occupy a Muslim nation or nonMuslim nation, but for Jews to legally own land which has a majority Muslim population is unacceptable?

Pure anti-Semitism; pure Islamic supremacism and imperialism!

What a screwed up world... what a screwed up human race!

pull ground troops out of Iraq, bomb syria and iran and let the sunnis and shia kill each other till there's none left.

Use the troops and the navy to protect the oil shipments.

I don't think there is a good guy in the Middle East. Syria is a brutal dictatorship. Israel is stolen land. Iraq is full of ethnic bloodlust. The United States and France are out to protect their investments.

For the Lebanese that have the means to run from tyranny instead of fight it, come on over. A real minuteman like Taliban Jack will welcome your vote.

The UK and the USA are both in a terrificly weak bargaining position in the region due to Iraq. Part of the blowback of the Operation Iraqi Freedom debacle is that Syria and Iran's leverage has been increased dramaticaly. Give a bully a stick and he'll use it. It's unfortunate but not suprising.

Jose, there wouldn't even be a fledgling democracy (vote in late spring, '05) in Lebanon to lose except for the pressure exerted by the Americans and the UK in the region.

It's the French and Spanish that have an incredibly weak bargaining position - they cave into the threats from Islamic extremism. Look up who the co-authors were of U.N. Resolution 1559. The Syrian bully you refer to won't be looking over its' shoulder towards Paris or Madrid.

These are very tense times in Lebanon. Hezbollah is assassinating government ministers one by one and now they are at a number where the Government can not form a quarum. Syria phoned to offer condolences on the latest killing but, mistakenly 55 minutes before it happened.

"They" are waging a clandestine war. "We" are investigating their acts of war, which we- civilized people that we are- prefer to think of as crimes. So we try to get enough evidence to lay chages and issue subpoenas.

Boy Assad wishes to be a prime actor in the ME without declaring himself. His involvement in Lebanon and Iraq should be brought to an end with a few well placed bombs in Damascus.

It won't happen of course because our betters insist that we wage law against war.

The deaths of American boys fighting for our freedom is nothing but a price to be paid for our purity.

Don't kid yourself Terry. There is nothing pure about Western foreign policy.

There is MichaelTotten.com for coverage of these critical times in Lebanon of course and there is also . . .

Someone in Syria fucked up!

Al Seyassah daily learned from authoritative sources in Beirut, that one of the editors of the Syrian National News Agency (SANA) placed a
phone call to a pro-Syrian Lebanese newspaper at 3:05 pm on Tuesday. The caller inquired about the details of the assassination of Lebanese
Minister for Industry Pierre Gemayel, raising eyebrows at the Lebanese newpaper.

The timing of phone call was 55 minutes before the assassination was carried out.

Ten minutes after the call was placed, the Syrian editor placed another phone call in order to apologize for a misunderstanding.
