Dumb and dumber.
Asked whether there was any doubt that al-Qaida was trying to gain the technology to attack the west, including the UK, with a nuclear weapon, a senior Foreign Office counter-terrorism official said: "No doubt at all."The official explained: "We know the aspiration is there, we know the attempt to get material is there, we know the attempt to get technology is there."

What an assinine statement. Makes sence your nick is A, is it short for asshole? You would need to ask the religion of peace followers that give you a choice of convert or die. What a FOOL!!!
"Maybe we in the West need to ask ourselves how the motivation got there."
easy . . the leaders of the Islamic world have been preaching hate, murder, mayhem and Jihad for centuries . it is the essential basis of that religion - conquer, submit or die.
Only now, through blind luck that they sit on big puddles of oil, they have lotsa money to spread their hatred and acquire weaponry.
There is no war on terror yet. Politicians say there is but, the people of the West haven't engaged yet and won't until some jihadi whackjob gets a nuke and blows up LA/London/Rome/Toronto wherever.
Then the dogs of war will be released, then the people of the West will discard the blind political correctness and care about collateral damage and we will be at War.
But not yet. The triumphalism of the jihadis will get them in the end.
BOOM !!
"Maybe we in the West need to ask ourselves how the motivation got there."
Hmmm. Yes, I know, we're an evil imperialistic culture of Anglo Saxon barbarians that have deprived the poor Muslim's of their own culture, liberty and life.
Or maybe it's because the Quran and the Hadiths command them to conquer the world in the name of Allah and oil is finally supplying the means?
Another fine example of a useful idiot.

Read one of Robert Spencer's books. The motivation is the Koran. It tells of the life of Mo, who was a thief/terrorist from the get-go, and it exhorts its followers to emulate him.

I'll ignore the ad hominem comments. I certainly never said that Islam extremists have targeted Western nations simply because we're "an evil imperialistic culture of Anglo Saxon barbarians that have deprived the poor Muslim's of their own culture, liberty and life." This is a classic strawperson argument, in which you construct an easily refutable statement and then try to attribute it to me.
But if the above statement is obviously false, so too is the notion that the "West" has been faultless victims in this new religious conflict. It is absolutely and demonstrably true that terrorists have harnessed the more violent and imperialist aspects of the Islamic religion to further their spiritual/political cause. It is also absolutely and demonstrably true that the great majority of Muslims reject terrorism (in the same way that virtually all Nazis were German but not all Germans were Nazis, or that almost all serial killers are white but almost all whites are not serial killers).
More to the point, it is also absolutely and demonstrably true that the roots of this conflict have implicated, admittedly among many other things, British colonialism, a half-century of US foreign policies in the Middle East, and current Western business interests in the energy sector. To be sure, these are not the only causes of the conflict, nor are they even particularly key causes. But they are unquestionably facets of a hugely complex interaction, and cannot be ignored simply because they offend your particular political, patriotism, or moral sensibilities.
In this current climate, it is crucial to avoid absolute and generalized statements ("The leaders of the Islamic world have been preaching hate, murder, mayhem and Jihad for centuries"; "It is the essential basis of that religion--conquer, submit or die"; "The Quran and the Hadiths command them to conquer the world in the name of Allah") that deny the complexity of the situation and seek instead to reduce the various actors into oversimplistic, one-dimensional, demonized stereotypes. They may reassure you of your own moral superiority, but they neither reflect reality nor offer any potential pragmatic strategies for achieving a lasting peace.
Hhhhmmmmmm.... Hey "A" maybe you should ask yourself if your OK with having your wife or girlfriend in a burka? I think your nothing but a useful idiot that will do your very best to subvert or way of life. Your either on there side or our side. If you cant back up your neighbors maybe you should move your ass to the middle east. Or maybe we can get real lucky and you can have a premature belt accident so you only take out yourself instead of a bunch of us with you.

Blaming history or collonialism is moral cowardice on the part of the Islamic nations.
The middle east needs to look in the mirror. Palistinians are used by Iran and the rest to fight their proxy war against Israel. Terrorists want to revert any progressive muslim nation like Indonesia back to the 1600's. Saudi princes keep getting richer and fund terrorism while their poor are kept poor so they can become homocide bombers and keep the price of oil up.
Blaming their ils on the rest of the world is the only thing keeping muslims from seeing that the religious fanatics and cleptocratic governments are the ones who create the conflict, cause their mysery, ensure their deaths revel in their dispair and reap the riches, power and rewards of all the things the common people are denied.
One of the best solutions for this whole islamofasist problem is dipping your bullets in pigs blood. A Canadian general a hundred years ago used it and we had no problems from them for a long long time. Time for us to learn from history.
"It is also absolutely and demonstrably true that the great majority of Muslims reject terrorism."
Not according to recent polls of 'British' Muslims.
2005: One third of Muslims do not accept British society and want to end it. 38% believe that foreign Muslims who incite hatred should be allowed to live in Britain. Over a quarter of Muslims would not report a pending terrorist attack to the authorities.
2006: One quarter of Muslims believe the London bombers were justified in their actions. 10% believe that the bombers are martyrs.
As to your other assertions that western colonialism is to blame:
- I'm sure the families of the Christian schoolgirls beheaded in Indonesia would agree with you; or the million or so Christian and Animist holocaust vicitims in Sudan; or the over a million butchered Armenians in the early 20th century in Turkey; or the million or so Hindus massacred in the East Pak and Bangaledesh pogram in the 70's; or...
It's good that you have replaced parochial, syllogistic reasoning with advanced, reletavistic thought and nuance regarding world affairs. However, the Muslims still see binary - convert or die.
As for me, I'll continue to look both ways before crossing the street. And to that end I see the enemy as anyone with the view that Islamic law should govern human action in all spheres, especially politics.
Once again, useful idiot.

BEIJING (Nov. 16) - Elaine Loke is shutting down her dog boutique and will spirit her golden retrievers Hippy and Bally out of Beijing to escape the city's sweeping anti-rabies campaign. Dog owners like Loke have been scrambling to hide their pets in the face of a new crackdown which allows only one dog per household and bans breeds taller than 14 inches. Fears have been fueled by graphic Internet pictures and witnesses who say police are beating to death strays and dogs that run afoul of regulations. Philanthropy Expert Says Conservatives Are More Generous
BY FRANK BRIEADDY
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse University professor Arthur C. Brooks is about to become the darling of the religious right wing in America -- and it's making him nervous.
The child of academics, raised in a liberal household and educated in the liberal arts, Brooks has written a book that concludes religious conservatives donate far more money than secular liberals to all sorts of charitable activities, irrespective of income.
In the book, to be released later this month, he cites extensive data analysis to demonstrate that values advocated by conservatives -- from church attendance and two-parent families to the Protestant work ethic and a distaste for government-funded social services -- make conservatives more generous than liberals.
...
When it comes to helping the needy, Brooks writes: "For too long, liberals have been claiming they are the most virtuous members of American society. Although they usually give less to charity, they have nevertheless lambasted conservatives for their callousness in the face of social injustice." ...-

No doubt. I never sought to exculpate terrorists or their sympathizers. My point simply is that there's no truly innocent sides here. Islamic leaders, Muslim publics, Western leaders, Western publics--moderates on all sides must be willing to honestly reconsider their past and present missteps, even as they come together to condemn fundamentalist terrorism.
Also, I'm heartened to see you distinguish between (moderate) Muslims and religious fanatics.
Blaming history or collonialism is moral cowardice on the part of the Islamic nations.
I'd argue that solely blaming history or colonialism is indeed moral cowardice on the part of Islamic nations. By that same token, however, I'd also argue that refusing to consider the role of history or colonialism is moral cowardice on the part of Western nations. Again, it comes back to my point that trying to shift all the blame to one side or another is pointless. So are simplistic moral dichotomies like "Your [sic] either on there [sic] side or our side," which sounds great on the 6 o'clock news, but has proven to be far less useful when it forms the basis of a nation's foreign policy.
Could you spare a few bucks to help a your trolls keep their meds up to date??

You are a member of the middle-class (old Marxist term).

Maurice Strong , opening speech at the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development.
Local Agenda 21
The U.N. Plan for Your Community
By Berit Kjos - 1998 (Clinton was President USA)
Agenda 21, the UN blueprint for global transformation, sounds good to many well meaning people. Drafted for the purpose of creating "sustainable societies", it has been welcomed by nations around the world. Political, cultural, and media leaders have embraced its alluring visions of social justice and a healthy planet. They hide the lies behind its doomsday scenarios and fraudulent science. Relatively few consider the contrary facts and colossal costs.
After all, what could be wrong with preserving resources for the next generation? Why not limit consumption and reduce energy use? Why not abolish poverty and establish a global welfare system to train parents, monitor intolerance, and meet all our needs? Why not save the planet by trading cars for bikes, an open market for "self-sustaining communities," and single dwellings for dense "human settlements" (located on transit lines) where everyone would dialogue, share common ground, and be equal?
The answer is simple. Marxist economics has never worked. Socialism produces poverty, not prosperity. Collectivism creates oppression, not freedom. Trusting environmental "scientists" who depend on government funding and must produce politically useful "information" will lead to economic and social disaster. 3
Even so, local and national leaders around the world are following the UN blueprint for global management and "sustainable communities," and President Clinton is leading the way. A letter I received from The President's Council on Sustainable Development states that -
In April 1997, President Clinton asked the council to advise him on: next steps in building a new environmental management system for the 21st century...-

Ozone hole may soon shrink
BBC ^ | 11/15/06
David Hofman and Susan Solomon, two scientists who had helped alert the world to the existence of a menacing hole in the stratospheric ozone layer above Antarctica, recently reported that this worrisome feature of the atmosphere appears to have stopped widening.
After the hole was discovered in 1986, international agreements were reached to end the use of ozone-depleting chemicals (chlorofluorocarbons, or CFCs),

Reuters Interviews Torturer
At Reuters AlertNet, an unnamed Reuters reporter interviews an Iraqi “warlord” who says he’s fighting for all Iraqis. To free them from the occupation.
And he’s doing this by torturing Iraqis. With power tools.
BAGHDAD, Nov 16 (Reuters) - They call him the “Shi’ite Zarqawi”, a torturer with a passion for power tools, a sectarian warlord bent on driving Sunnis from Baghdad, a man whose shadowy legend has grown with recent narrow escapes from U.S. forces.
But the elusive militia commander known as Abu Deraa says he has just been misunderstood, turned by the media into a bogeyman when in fact he loves Sunnis as his brothers in Islam and wants only to protect his city’s poor and drive Americans from Iraq.
“I find those allegations really odd,” he said in interview this week with an Iraqi journalist working for Reuters.
