Why is the Media so Left ?? Left, not in the hard working-man sense, but in the Activism, Professors, Basket-weavers sense.

Could it be this simple; The media has always tried to control the agenda(a la Parliamentary Press Gallery). One way to control a population, from Dictatorships to Democracy, is with the fear factor. Propagate and instill fear and then promote gov't help/controls, is a time proven method used by many, including the Media. From Kyoto to Crop Circles, the "stories" do not even have to be truthfull.

Which group, The Left or the Right, is most easily scamed/hoaxed by the Media ?? For the purpose of gaining control, is it not easier to preach to the easily converted ??

Think Al Gore, MSM, The UN, Swaggart, Cults, CBC Global Warming Calaminty Documentaries, West Nile Virus, Franken Foods, Martians, Ice Age Coming, Peak Oil,

All those who were gleefully speculating about the demise of the Tories because of the income trust issue will certainly be discouraged by the poll taken this week.

OTTAWA -- Public support for the Harper government is holding at the strength it scored on election day nine months ago, despite the political storm this week over its flip-flop on taxing income trusts, a new poll has found.

Indeed, the national survey by Ipsos-Reid conducted for CanWest News Service paints a picture of an electorate that is virtually unmoved since voters gave Stephen Harper's Conservatives a slim minority last January.
[...]
The survey, conducted amid the furor over Tuesday's surprise tax announcement, suggests Canadians are not rushing to punish the government. "It's a fairly elite issue," Bricker, president of Ipsos-Reid, said in an interview. "This is a stock market story. People know markets go up and down."

Given the massive coverage of Harper's reversal in income trusts, anger over the issue would have shown up in the survey if it were there, he argued.

Bricker said polling over the years has shown "stock market stories" have very little impact on how Canadians view political parties, or the health of the economy.

Khadr helped al-Qaeda with GPS

Court files detail his role in plot to kill Pakistan's PM

Adrian Humphreys, National Post
Published: Thursday, November 02, 2006

Abdullah Khadr used a global positioning system to measure the distance between the home of the Pakistani Prime Minister and a graveyard from where a missile attack was to be staged by al-Qaeda operatives, according to newly filed court documents.

Mr. Khadr, the eldest son in a Toronto family that has been friends with Osama bin Laden, detailed his role in a bold assassination plot during a videotaped interview with the RCMP.

"They asked me to measure the distance between some graveyard and a house," he said of a request by friends of his father's in Pakistan, according to the transcript of an interview filed this week in an Ontario court by the Department of Justice.

The other men did not know how to use the GPS device, Mr. Khadr said, but he read the manual and figured out what to do.

"That's kind of odd, that someone would say, 'Here's a GPS, measure the distance,' " said RCMP Sergeant Konrad Shourie, questioning Mr. Khadr in December, 2005, when he returned to Canada after more than a year of imprisonment in Pakistan.

"You do it for a friend," Mr. Khadr said.

"What would that, in your experience, normally mean," asked Sgt. Shourie of the measurement.

"They wanted to fire some missiles," Mr. Khadr replied.

The Barrister at Maggies Farm makes a most interesting observation today about the leading Democrats during this latest election campaign.

Reid, Pelosi, Kennedy, Dean, Gore, etc. all went into hiding. Even though Kerrys gaffe blew part of the plan and Dean has a lot of trouble keeping his big mouth shut.

Where are the leading Dems? The leading Dems have run this campaign by laying low. And distracting the electorate with Foley stories and now Evangelical scandals that circumvent the tough issues. And they have had a ton of help with this strategy from their fellow left wingers in the MSM.

As The Barrister points out, their platform this election is... Its Not The Economy Stupid.

Are the Republicans going to stay home on Tuesday and not vote (as promoted by the left wingers at AARP) and thereby hand over control of Congress to Charlie Rangle, Nancy Pelosi,John Conyers and John Kerry? Maybe. We will soon see. Let the recounts begin!

The campaign for the forthcoming presidential election in France has been under way since the end of January. ...
The two main contenders are incumbent President Jacques Chirac (Gaullist, RPR) and Prime Minister Lionel Jospin (Socialist Party). While Chirac only this week officially declared his candidature, and Jospin apparently intends to wait until the last moment to launch the active phase of his campaign, a “third man” has been making a name for himself since September—Jean-Pierre Chevènement, Jospin’s former minister for the interior. At the moment, surveys indicate that Chevènement has a popularity rating of 14 percent, putting him closely behind Jospin and Chirac. ...

... In his organisation, the Republican Pole ( pôle républicain), Chevènement is uniting supporters of the extreme right, including monarchists and former followers of Le Pen and Pasqua, nationalists from the Gaullist, socialist and Stalinist camps, and former pseudo-Trotskyists, like Fançois Morvan, an erstwhile leading member of the Communist Revolutionary League ( Ligue communiste révolutionnaire —LCR). »

Shame on Him

An OpinionJournal op-ed from Ronald R. Griffin has the last word on John F. Kerry’s insult to the military: Shame on Him. ...-

I missed the joke. ...

As Sen. Kerry began his soon-to-be-reversed “I apologize to no one” rebuttal to a call for an apology, I was driving by the memorial built in honor of Kyle, my son, and the other fallen heroes from my town. As I listened, I tried unsuccessfully to make sense of the meteor shower of thoughts that were streaking through my mind. Then came one remembrance that brought all those other thoughts to an instantaneous halt. Last year I had written an editorial and I received a number of written replies. Among those was one postmarked from San Diego addressed simply to “the father of a hero” and my town of Emerson, N.J.

It started off friendly enough then quickly became argumentative and before the first paragraph was completed this individual had written, “I am glad that your son got killed for he probably was an idiot just like you”. My first reaction, and really the only reaction I have ever had, was sadness for an individual who is so consumed with anger that he felt it necessary to lash out at me for my beliefs.

That is exactly how I feel about John Kerry. His anger was in full bloom as he tried desperately to control the damage that his words had caused. He knew full well that he could not defend his remarks, so he attacked President Bush. ...-

A Primer and Quiz for Left Wing Nutbars
Friday, November 03, 2006

How does the left-wing mind work? Or, maybe a better question is - Why is it that the left-wing mind doesn’t work?

Some people think that left-wingdom is a pathology; A mental illness that prevents the brain from processing information correctly; A psychological disorder that causes the unfortunate sufferer to have crippling episodes of self loathing, wild attacks of delusional naïveté and an irrepressible need to embrace anything and everything destructive and corrosive to their civilization. Maybe it’s no accident that the poor, unfortunate individuals who exhibit these monstrously disabling symptoms are called leftists. After all, it’s the left hemisphere of the brain that controls our ability to think logically. And, as we all know, left wingers are about as good with logic as Bill Clinton is at being faithful to his wife. That is to say, not very. Maybe that’s why they all love Slick Willie – he reminds them of themselves, nasty stains and all.

To be a left wing-dinger is to have completely and utterly divorced yourself from the real world in which you live – to inhabit some sort of mythical dream world where Iranian society is the moral equivalent to Canadian society and America the very embodiment of Satan.

Cultural relativism and Anti-Americanism, you see, are the main cornerstones of the left-wing psychology (or should I say the left-wing psychosis).

Just test any lefty you know. Say something like – “You know, America has got to be the most culturally influential nation that has ever existed. Its awesome presence is everywhere around the world – books, movies, music, TV, Coca cola….” Then, stand back and watch the lefty’s head explode. (H/T Western Standard) ...-

RENFREW [Ontario] -- Red tape-entangled owners of a family bakery have reconsidered their decision to shut down today after an overwhelming show of community support and a promise of backing from the Renfrew Landowners Association.

Instead, says Renfrew Home Bakery co-owner Rick Power, the family will continue producing a wide range of breads and pastries the same way they've been doing for nearly 25 years.

That means without any packaging and labelling modifications, as ordered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

"I'm a baker," Rick says. "I'm going to bake. We're not going to fight it. We'll let somebody else fight for us."

Landowners are prepared to do just that, says Randy Hillier, president of the umbrella Ontario Landowners Association. They're demonstrating at the bakery at 9 a.m. today.

The fight, Hillier says, isn't just on behalf of the Renfrew bakery, but for similar operations across Ontario which are sure to come under closer CFIA scrutiny.

$100G TAB

Hillier insists small bakeries, where no complaints have been registered and no safety issues have been reported, should be free to carry on their traditions.

Power and wife Pam had said they would close, rather than spend an estimated $100,000 on new equipment and in meeting other packaging and labelling requirements suddenly ordered by the CFIA after a recent, random visit. The Powers were given a compliance deadline of this Jan. 1, which they felt they couldn't meet.

Although the business has been up for sale, they never wanted to close it, but to sell it as a going concern. After the CFIA intervention, they became worried no one would be interested in making an offer because of all the costly changes imposed. (Ottawa Sun)

Anybody wonder what the hell NDP MLAs are thinking in keeping Lorne Calvert as their Leader? I mean giving him until the end of the session to poll ahead of the Sask party is not going to work. Polls going back to October 2005 showed Sask party far ahead, polls in June 2006 showed Sask Party well ahead, and a by-election in the home constituency of Tommy Douglas; voters put Calvert dead last! Now a 2% tax cut, well really 1% cut in what is seen by a large number of the population as a desperate move by a government which is on its own death bed trying to grasp for one last breath. I honestly thought when Kevin Yates left Cabinet over sharing what he heard about Lorne Calverts leadership caucus would stand behind the one MLA who had the balls to state to Calver the obvious. Go into the next provincial election with Calvert as leader and the NDP loose big time. I wish I had faith that caucus would have the brains and the ability to remove Calvert but sadly they don't. Calvert is leading his own party right to a cliff and for some reason his caucus knows that but continue to follow the guy.

Hospitals have lost nearly £6 million since a controversial Government scheme to cut carbon emissions was introduced.

The chaos caused to essential public services by Labour's participation in the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme is revealed in a series of emails and documents released under the Freedom of Information Act.

They show that hospitals have suffered a net loss of £5.8 million since the beginning of 2005. Campaigners say that this is the equivalent of employing 309 nurses.

The documents also show that the Department of Health has attempted to cover up the cost of the scheme under which public services and companies buy carbon credits to offset their emissions. ...-

The Day of Justice (An Exclusive Dispatch From Baghdad)
PajamasMedia.com ^ | 11-5-2006 | PJM in Baghdad

Baghdad is living tense hours awaiting the announcement of a verdict by the special tribunal against Saddam.

First, the defense ministry announced canceling all leaves and vacations for all personnel then the government declared a curfew for tomorrow in Baghdad, Salah Addin, Diyala and Anbar. Baghdad's international airport will also be closed from Sunday morning "until further notice" according to al-Iraqiya state TV.

Today, heavy presence of police forces is visible in Baghdad and a few districts like Adhamiya and Ghazaliya are, partially or completely, locked from the rest of the capital with roadblocks and checkpoint. However, the situation is relatively calm in general but the public is expecting an escalation in attacks by insurgents tomorrow. Households are preparing for the curfew and stashing extra amounts of fuel and food and there are particularly long lines of people at bakeries waiting for bread. This is all out of fear that the curfew would be extended for several days incase massive unrest break out.

I personally don't see this exaggerated anxiety necessary; of course an upsurge in violence is expected but that would be limited in duration and geographic distribution. Perhaps we will also see some armed demonstrations in certain places in Baghdad and Salah Addin where Saddam loyalists are abundant but this cannot lead to massive chaos because those Saddam loyalists are again limited in power and geographic distribution.

The overwhelming majority of Iraqis are looking forward to seeing justice be served tomorrow which will give the fascist dictator, who brutalized and abused millions of people and their homeland for decades, give him what he deserves. We have been dreaming for such a day to come and it will be a true turning point, not only for Iraq but for the middle east, for it will be the first time a ruler gets paid back for what he'd done by a court of law.

We do get that climate change and a clean environment is important to understand, but to feed us alarming conclusions, based on skewered data, is plain wrong.

This article, one of a series, calls them on it...especially the UN, the basis for the Stern Report issued earlier this week.

[Note: *** are my highlighting.]

telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/11/05/nosplit/nwarm05.xml

"Climate chaos? Don't believe it"

"...how the ***UN undervalued the sun's effects*** on historical and contemporary climate, slashed the natural greenhouse effect, ***overstated*** the past century's temperature increase, ***repealed*** a fundamental law of physics, and ***tripled*** the man-made greenhouse effect."

"First, the UN implies that carbon dioxide ended the last four ice ages. It displays two 450,000-year graphs: a sawtooth curve of temperature and a sawtooth of airborne CO2 that's scaled to look similar. Usually, similar curves are superimposed for comparison. The UN didn't do that.

*****If it had, the truth would have shown: the changes in temperature preceded the changes in CO2 levels.*****"

"Next, the ***UN abolished the medieval warm period *** (the global warming at the end of the First Millennium AD).

In 1995, David Deming, a geoscientist at the University of Oklahoma, had written an article reconstructing 150 years of North American temperatures from borehole data. He later wrote: "With the publication of the article in Science, I gained significant credibility in the community of scientists working on climate change. They thought I was one of them, someone who would pervert science in the service of social and political causes. One of them let his guard down.

****A major person working in the area of climate change and global warming sent me an astonishing email that said: 'We have to get rid of the Medieval Warm Period.'"****

"***So they did.*** The UN's second assessment report, in 1996, showed a 1,000-year graph demonstrating that temperature in the Middle Ages was warmer than today.

But the ***2001 report contained a new graph showing no medieval warm period.***

It ***wrongly concluded that the 20th century was the warmest for 1,000 years***.

The graph looked like an ice hockey-stick. The ***wrongly flat AD1000-AD1900 temperature line*** was the shaft: the uptick from 1900 to 2000 was the blade. Here's how they did it:

• They gave one technique for reconstructing pre-thermometer temperature 390 times more weight than any other (but didn't say so).

• The technique they overweighted was one which the UN's 1996 report had said was unsafe: measurement of tree-rings from bristlecone pines. .... This carbon dioxide fertilisation distorts the calculations.

• They said they had included 24 data sets going back to 1400. Without saying so, they left out the set showing the medieval warm period, tucking it into a folder marked "Censored Data".

Stephane Dion, wannabe Liberal leader/Prime Minister of Canada, says his France bought/paid for this in 1534, or, 1535, when Jacques Cartier arrived at Quebec City from France. Jacques paid the Indians with 3 flagons of French brandy.

Find George. The left-socialists/greens' brains run in a circular track: Obsessive-compulsive.

Obsessive-compulsives are tortured by these thoughts, which they find profoundly disgusting and distressing. See Daniel Breton below.

It's George Bush, ever and always.

More from Breton: It's a fact: you who voted for Stephen Harper in Canada voted for George Bush, POTUS.

Eco-activists aim anger at 'climate terrorist' Harper

``When Stern, who is hardly an ecologist, says this, and our prime minister ignores it, you have to wonder, who is he listening to?'' said Daniel Breton, head of the Coalition Quebec Vert Kyoto.

``If people voted for Stephen Harper, the reality is they elected George Bush.'

SILLY TO RECRUIT OVERWEIGHT FOR DEMANDING SOLDIER'S WORK
THERE CERTAINLY has been no shortage of military items in the mainstream news over the past few weeks. One of the most bizarre revelations was that the Canadian military has removed all physical fitness standards from its recruiting policy.

Vote for Mike? No way

Lyn Cockburn Edmonton Sun
...
Sure we understand Quebec's desire to be recognized as a distinct entity within Canada and many of us have no problem with that because we have already accepted that distinction.

We just don't want to get into constitutional wrangles. So Quebec didn't sign on when we repatriated our constitution from Britain in 1982. So what? The very country we repatriated it from doesn't have one (instead, except in a lovely democratic muddle, it has a bunch of important papers, which if you smushed them all together would sort of constitute a constitution).

Anyway, how's that for irony? And for your info, neither does Israel. So leave the Canadian constitution alone, OK?

But, there's something more, Mikey. You annoy me. You irritate my DNA. You speak and the eczema above my right eyebrow gets worse.

It's that "I'm-Michael-Grant-Ignatieff-and-you're-not" attitude that emanates from your pores like pollutants from the rear end of an SUV. How does one get the tattoo which states privilege off one's forehead? Don't know, but there's a tat shop called Angel of Mercy just around the corner that you might want to consult.

It's also that "If-you-just-pay-attention-you'll-get-it" attitude left over from your days as a professor at Cambridge, Oxford and Harvard.

Now before you get the impression that I spit on education, may I point out that I have one and besides, ladies don't spit. Much. Although, Mike, sometimes your attitude makes me want to.

Anyway, the trick about having a good education is never to talk down to, hector or lecture your audience, friends, lovers or even your enemies.

Better yet, is to not even think you've got anything to talk down to them about. You, on the other hand, always seem to be trying too hard to appear like a man of the people. Trying too hard is a sure way to commit political suicide and you, sir, are stumbling towards your deathbed.

And by the way, you sir are no Iggy. There is only one Iggy and he plays right wing for the Calgary Flames, a position in which he is always comfortable and sometimes brilliant. He does not trip over his own skates.

You though, are all over the place, so that while we know you're playing a game, we're not sure which one or exactly what position you're taking. Or whose skates you're wearing.

Moreover, I have had the pleasure of seeing Jarome Iginla in several TV interviews and he impresses me as a thoughtful, well-spoken person who knows what he's talking about. Perhaps you can take lessons.

In Vancouver, the MSM is in denial.

Adventures In BloggingTories Land | November 5th, 2006

Far be it from me to turn Popular Doctrine into some kind of blog that bashes on other differences of opinion; in fact I seek out the adversaries of my views and attempt dialog and common ground between us. Take Mr.Joseph Lavoie, for instance, whose personal blog is affiliated with the Blogging Tories syndicate. That Mr.Lavoie is an open-minded, reasonable, and respectful Conservative gives me hope that people from every part of the spectrum can at least find commonality in civility and respect for difference of opinion. My last article about Small Dead Animals at least granted me the basic right to contribute my dissenting views on its website. Not so for all blogs. In fact, I find that the vast, vast majority of Blogging Tories sites censor and withhold comments they do not agree with. So what are these right-wingers so afraid of? A tiny left-wing voice in the crowd of “moonbat” calls and slurs against politicians?

I do not visit the Tories sites to troll; I am genuinely curious of differing opinion, and remarkably I often agree with the views. I do not believe myself partizan or left-leaning definitively. I often find myself fluctuating from left to centre to right. This is why I seek out information from a wide variety of sources, hence my visits to Tory sites. And this is how I came across the following article from Proud To Be Canadian ...- (via jack's newswatch)

Now, does anyone else find this odd...to the extreme?

An MP going around the Hill to interview other MPs so that he can put it up on his website,

all in the name of providing better access and accountability to his constituents.

No wonder no one wanted him in their caucus.

Maybe if he spent more time doing the duties required of an MP, and less time self-promoting himself on the Internet, he might have really been able to do something useful for his riding." ...-
