On a related note: in the 2002 Olympics the Swedish hockey team lost to lowly-regarded Belarus. The next day, Sweden's largest paper's front page carried the pictures and NHL salary of each player and the one word headline "Traitors". In 2006, the Swedes went out and won the gold medal.
Notwithstanding the "chicken Swede"\eurocommie stereotype the fact remains that nationalism is much stronger in Sweden than in Canada - due to Canada's ill-conceived multiculturalism policy and world's highest immigration rate - and I believe that is reflected not only in the performance of their respective hockey teams but in threats to their very nation. Swedish hockey players love Sweden more than Canadian players love Canada. Point being: that the Swedes will stand up to this nonsense before Canadians do.

If that's not insane enough - since 9/11 Canada has doubled the number of Muslims living here. CAIR reports there are one million Muslims in Canada. They, of course, are liars. However there are at least 600,000.
If the (ten country) statistics posted yesterday on Michelle Malkin's blog were averaged out and applied to Canadian Muslims - 120,000 would support terrorist actions against non-Muslim civilians.
In the meantime, they are quite busy living in self-imposed segregation, while manipulating our laws and Liberal 'values' to accomplish their goals.

The birth rate is below replacement rate through much of the world; about the only people having babies are Muslims and as we've seen throughout the Muslim world and now Europe, they are not a productive people, for whatever reason.
If our population base is too small to support the "ever-increasing network of government-delivered services", it's time to pare some back to an affordable level and dump the rest.

You're all wrong, by the way...I'm not a socialist. I have only ever voted Conservative and I support them now. I don't believe in big government, I don't believe we should have anywhere near the amount of government services we have.
But we currently HAVE big government and lots of government services. So...our taxes are ridiculously high and getting higher every day (although, the feds are trying to reduce the tax burden, the provinces and municipalities are generally increasing them directly or by introducing user fees).
How do we fix this?
Yes, the Conservatives could (and should) cut services...but as we've seen in the liberal MSM, this is near to political suicide. Therefore, increasing immigration is a practical solution...not a utopian solution, but practical. And guess what...I believe this is what Solberg is doing.
And, please notice, I did say "selective" immigration...I was trying to be "nuanced" and sensitive in my response to avoid singling out which groups to allow in and which to keep out. Perhaps you all shouldn't respond in such a knee-jerk reaction.

However, I don't believe in 'nuance', when freedom, liberty and life are at stake. So therefore, I'll say it again:

The religion of mass-murder, provoked by lust, must not be allowed to grow here, if we want a future.
If you observe their actions around the world, especially in European countries; if you gain knowledge of their Quran and the deeds of their prophet - you'll finally understand that Muslims are not like other immigrants, wanting to become part of and add to society. They are colonizers, pure and simple.

I just get tired of being fed the socialist pablum about how increased immigration and diversity will solve all our problems.
I have recently joined all my friends and family in something the MSM doesn't tell you about: the white flight out of Toronto and into the 905.
The population of the GTA has doubled in my lifetime with little in the way of new roads, hospitals or mass transit. I fail to see how sitting in traffic for four hours a day in order to work or waiting for 28 hours in hospital emergency in order to be admitted is any improvement in efficiency.
Taxes have continuously increased as services decrease. New immigrants are competing with recent immigrants for the crappiest of jobs and crime is increasing exponentially.
Speaking of diversity, what exactly is the benefit of not being able to recognize your old neighborhood and certainly not being welcome there? Toronto is slowly being divided up into no go zones depending on what race you are and before I get told what a xenophobe I am, I can assure you it has gotten to the point where immigrants complain about all the foreigners.
All I ask is that if your plan is to drastically change the face of the country then at least appear to have a plan other than to dump immigrants in Toronto and tell them to sink or swim.

I don't have a problem with high immigration.
BUT the people we let in should be Hindus from India, Buddhists from Asia, Chinese capitalists and other people not of a specific violent ideology/religion.
Family class should be reduced to spouse and dependent children only. Other relatives should have to qualify under economic class or stay home.
Refugees should be more properly screened and all detained until they are properly checked out. Failed refugees should stay detained and deported at the first opportunity.
There should be strict quotas on Family class and refugees. Economic class should be wide open.

The biggest problem we have is the multiculture mentality in this country. Just what in hell does it mean to be Canadian these days? Other than "we are tolerant",no one seems to know.Even our national symbol (RCMP) has been sold to Disney.Seems we have turned into a nation of weenies, whiners and wingnuts whose primary concern is fat people and second hand smoke.Everyone seems to be minding everyone elses business and they all seem to know what is best for us.We are not our fathers Canadians.I think we have apologized for pretty well everything that has happened in the last 200 years and looking for more.We have no historical union with the people we are now importing and many of them see us as a easy mark.They are encouraged to bring their political baggage and lifestyle with them.In many cases it is incompatible with our lifestyle.We have no plan. We need a plan.
Switzerland isn't 20% muslim. It's 20% immigrant, but they're not all muslim. It's around 4-5% muslim, from what I've read. And the Swiss are very xenophobic (listing "foreigners" as one of their top three fears, right up there with natural disasters, in a survey taken in the last 2 years, sorry no link), but I guess that's maybe not surprising with such a high immigrant population in such a tiny country. They're trying to clamp down on immigration these days.

Thanks for the clarification on the 20% immigrants NOT 20% muslims in Switzerland -- I was in total shock, for good reason obviously. As mentioned I encoutered it in Bawer's book but it's most likely my error not his.
