This is a cause for which I am prepared to sacrifice!

The one gallon challenge...count me in!

Irish cream ale though, Kilkeny thank you. Shot of Laphroige on the side.

I am trying to do my duty for Queen and Country.

I just opened a Propeller Porter.
Its quite nice if you like a darker more robust
beer....which I do.

I have some Pump House Blueberry Ale that I
havent tried yet.

I usually like to make my own but the secret
cupboard (cleverly hidden behind the shrine
to Saint Arnold) seems to be empty.

The good news is I can have something like this
lovely Porter ready by Christmas. Tax free.

If I start cooking it tomorrow....hmmm.

Currently in the fridge and ready to go:

- Fuller's Vintage Ale 2004 (8.5%ABV)
- Kasteel Bier Du Chateau (11% ABV)
- Paulaner Salvator (7.5% ABV)
- Schneider Aventinus (8.2%)

I'm ready to do my part!

Nineteenth! I have been doing my best and all we get is Nineteenth?
Open those bars earlier and blame George Bush.

I support the call for a National Beer Program.

There are some thingfs that a good government prioritizes highly. Beer for all. It must be a universal program

If I quaff Canadian wine, may I be excused from daily efforts on the Beer front?

We also serve who sip...

For those who don't like beer that much, but are concerned about Canadas' standing...

Open a bottle of Pil.
Take a swig out of it. (also acts as a reminder)
Carefully pour 1oz of Gin into the bottle.
Enjoy!

It's called a "Gilsner", of course. The bonus is the automatic limit. When you can no longer pour the gin into the beer bottle without spilling, it's time to stop...

;)

Of course, nothing that I'm going to do is going to help Canada's standing, but I definitely approve of the attitude here. Nothing tastes better than good beer. I have some Sierra Nevada Pale Ale in the refrigerator and I'll be stopping by the local Safeway today to get a twelve-pack of the Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ale that they're selling at a good price.

It's not just for breakfast anymore.

Totally flawed study when you examine the source for the study; Kirin Beer from Japan.

Note also that the study only includes those who consume 633ml bottles of beer as the standard.

Every warm blooded German knows you are served in the beer hall in 1 Liter steins. Ever see the gals in Munich with 5 steins in each arm?

A real study will show the per capita consumption in Liters per person per year.

Moreover, what about comparing real beers brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516.

And don't forget that Adolf started his revolution in a beer hall; so find out the real story on what 'ALE-D' this teetotaler.

"Today ze beer hall, tomorrow ze world!"

And for all you Canuckleheads out there:

"I am CANADIAN"

On that note, Cheers, Prosit, Skol!!

One of the reasons we don't drink as much beer as we should, is price, $21.95 for a dozen domestic horse urine! Plus deposit! Arrgh!

What do the Czechs pay ? Friend in Texas informed me he can buy two dozen Lone Star for $10.
Many years back, 80's, Bill Vanderzalm promised to lower the price of beer if elected Premier. He was, he did, about a buck per case. Something for Harper to consider.

Goes to show you how good our weed is!

Oh and don't forget Scott Reid former advisor to PM Paul Martin.

Any tax reduction they will spend on "Beer and Popcorn"?

What is wrong with "Beer and Popcorn"?

Beer and peanuts?

Beer and cashews?

Beer and pretzels?

We Scots [and big ones too] have the same poll issues with the FIFA soccer rankings!"Who makes up these things"?
How can Canada get stuck behind some of those minnow drinkers?
How can Scotland get stuck behind Zambia?
Oh and I'll have a McEwens please.

I confess, its my fault. I haven't had a frosty mug in months, no doubt contributing to this shamefull state of affairs. The rest of you will have to pick up the pace I'm afraid, to make up for me.

Couple extra quarts each should do it. ~:D

RE: Silicon Valley Jim said,

Must be nice.

B.C. does not allow its residents that option.

The one gallon challenge...count me in!

But its gotta be the good stuff.....
Miller High Life!!!!

concrete:

Yes, it's all the little things, taken together, that define a free country.

*sigh*

Privatizing the LCBO here in Ontario would also help a lot.

I would correct that statement that "Canadians don't drink enough beer"....Amended to reflect realities it should read: " Canadians don not drink enough GOOD beer".

Support your local micro brewer and rest assured that wht you are drinking is a pure food product with no chemicals or adjuncts...real beer is actually GOOD for you...Mol-coor-batt kills.

Just give me a good ole Labatt's Crystal any day.

Yes, Rick; thanks for the reminder! There is one last Propeller Porter in my refrigerator, and it needs to be opened in short order. Then off to replenish with more porter, Garrison Brown Ale, or Pump House Scotch Ale.

I'd happily have a Maudite or a Trois-Pistoles for national unity, but we don't seem to be allowed to have it here.

The sign I saw on the way to work threw down the challenge -- "Drink Canada Dry". I accept - to the pub!

One must remember that beer is a food and not a tipple. You Canadians are suffering from a dietary deficiency due to your lack of consumption which might affect your progress as a nation. The ancient Egyptians were great beer drinkers. They built the great pyramids paid in part in beer, bread and onions. One can only wonder what OSHA would have thought about laboring in an environment clouded by the flatulence produced by such a diet. There are some things about history we may never know.
Cheers!

This is one of the inevitable consequences of our aging demographic. Recalling the days of my misspent youth, if I could match that former rate of consumption I swear that alone I could bump Canada up at least one notch in these ratings.

Alas, today the spirit is willing but the flesh is indeed weak. Were it possible to convert good scotch to the alcohol-equivalent quantity of beer, perhaps I could again make a meaningful contribution. And without stressing my aging bladder.

Otherwise, I can only offer my heartfelt encouragement to the younger generation. With Grey Cup weekend just about here, perhaps they will make up for we laggards.

In the good old days, if I remember correctly, MOlsons used to be a nice Tory-supporting family. I suspect with the years, the beer has come to reflect the anemic position of a more left-leaning coporation, though of course, I can't know this for sure. Mind you, some of the micro-breweries, which produce superior quality beers, might not reflect the political pundits true views. Legislate beer production...Let your beer reflect your party.

Excuses, excuses. I drink wine. I'm too old. Whatever. Some of us are keeping up our end of the bargain. I'm not just talking about me (though I do my best) - I'm talking about the entire freaking province I live in!

http://www.statcan.ca/english/freepub/63-202-XIE/2005000/t013_en.htm?

Canadian Average: 3.45 Litres of beer per person per year (2005)

Newfoundland and Labrador: 3.88 Lbeer/person/year
Saskatchewan: 2.99 Lbeer/person/year. Weak!

At the same time, no one can hold a candle to the Yukon or the NWT:

NWT: 4.13 Lbeer/person/year
Yukon: 5.85 Lbeer/person/year Holy Crap!

Note: all statistics are averaged over the entire population, from newborns to centegenarians, so the "viable" numbers are larger, I'm sure.

Cheers,

Ashley

Good to know that of all the alcohol consumed by volume, 80% of it is beer in Canada.

Cheers

Canadians do drink a lot of beer. Me thinks they made a boo...boo with the figures. Check previous time.At least I try to keep up to International Euro Standards which are not much to beat. They spend more wondering what the Government wants them to do.

I spent 6 years in Ontario from 1998 to 2004. I moved out from B.C. I recall going into the local liquor store and being surprised at the almost total lack of beer -- a small section in the corner, with 4 packs of Boddingtons, and a very few others. So, I asked at the checkout what the problem was with getting beer in this province. The young gentleman at the cash, gently took my arm, and we went out the side entrance, and he pointed me in the right direction. There across the parking lot, in a building on its own, was the beer store, with a HUGE sign on it saying BEER STORE. I am sure he thought everyone from B.C. was a moron. I guess that shoe fits, because I had driven right past it 20 minutes earlier.

I demand a recount! I personally account for two Litres per night, which is about six of the infantile bottles from the BEER store. As a matter of fact the closes I have ever come to suicide id when a guy stuck his head into the wet's at Borden and yelled theres a beer truck hit by a train at the Angus crossing. After the mass exodus we found out it was true; a beer truck loaded with EMPTIES heading for Barrie.

In the open thread category:

I was absolutely shocked by what Craig Oliver and Bob Fife were saying yesterday on Mike Duffy Live with Jane Taber--where IS Duffy, anwyay? 'Anyone heard?

The subject was China and Canada, and China's apparent snub of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Essentially, what these Librano-huggers were saying was that Chretien, Martin, etc. were smart to "only go so far" in criticizing China for it's human rights abuses, because the Librano$ understood that next to the U.S., Canada's next biggest trading partner has to be China.

One of them, I think it was Craig Oliver, actually said that the Conservatives "were serious" about challenging China on its human rights abuses and that this just wouldn't do. Bob Fife (or Oliver, depending on who made the comment) agreed whole heartedly.

I was watching two news commentators sounding totally like Librano Party members, dissing the Conservatives because they really meant what they said to China about its vile abuses of human rights. According to Oliver and Fife, it's a total NO-NO to call China to task for these abuses—and the CPC and PM Stephen Harper are naive and, um, between the lines, stupid to do so.

I watched, slack-jawed, as these two useful Canadian idiots declared principles be damned; any compromise on human rights abuses is fine--indeed, necessary--if it means trade for Canada, and not only that: The Librano$ were to be congratulated for giving lip service to Canada's concern for China's appalling record on the abuse of human rights, whereas the CPC were to be roundly criticized for being "serious" about Canada's concern about these abuses.

Whoa. 'Anyone else feel like the world has just been turned upside down and inside out? What's right is considered wrong, and what's wrong is considered right? Good G*d. And the Liberals are the Party of "openness," "tolerance," "diversity," and "equality"?

Openness to corruption and law-breaking, not to mention downright barbarity;
Tolerant of tyrannical dictatorships if it means profits for them and their off-shore-profiteering, money-bags friends (Mo Strong and Paul Martin immediately come to mind);
Diversity meaning all comers are welcome: right and wrong; honest and dishonest; honourable people and scoundrels; democratic principles and dictatorial tyrannies: Come one, come all--and bring your money bag$.
Equality: sure. Downright barbarous practices are right up there with law-abiding ones. Who cares, as long as they bring in the BIG BUCKS.

Our soldiers died in two wars to end all wars for this?

Sorry. Wrong thread. I guess I should be drinking more beer to clear my brain...

We shall out-drink them on the beaches, we shall out-drink them on the landing grounds, we shall out-drink them in the fields and in the streets, we shall out-drink them in the hills, we shall never surrender.
