Last week the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq released an audiotape praising the results of the US midterm elections. Bill Roggio has the translation;
The tape highlights the very real fact that al-Qaeda works to influence elections in the West, and has a real preference in their outcome. This was true in Spain in the spring of 2004, when the Madrid rail suicide bombings killed over 200 commuters just days before the election, and led to the subsequent victory of the current Socialist government and immediate withdrawal of Spanish forces from Iraq. Over the summer, U.S. intelligence uncovered a 66 page document that explained al-Qaeda strategy to manipulate Western elections. The document, which was published on the web in a private al-Qaeda forum, has yet to be declassified. To influence the American elections, the U.S. mainland didn't need to be hit. The schwerpunkt of American public opinion was in Iraq. The terror attacks and sectarian killings were ratcheted up to achieve the desired effect: weaken the resolve of the American public, create a sense of hopelessness and despair in the mission. Now, the question is: will the Bush administration and the Democratic Congress hand al-Qaeda a real military victory to accompany the propaganda victory by prematurely withdrawing from Iraq before the security has stabilized?
Bill is planning to return to Iraq as an embed. You can support that effort here.

The Americans seem to be setting themselves up for another tail between their legs Viet Nam style exit. If the Americans run again, regardless of reason or circumstances, they will truly stand alone, number one in the world. Who in the future will support a flaky ally that runs when the going gets tough? It supports my personal feelings about Iraq and about the only thing I ever agreed with cretien on, no to Iraq, because even then I questioned the Americans resolve.
My feelings are that Europe will fall into civil chaos, Israel will have to act with their backs against the wall and all the wannabees, China, Russia and the Islamic states will step up their aggression world wide. Europe on the brink will become Israel’s biggest ally in the fight for our way of life and will finish the dirty work the Americans started. Ironic in that those that created the State of Israel may in turn be saved by it’s creation.
Appeasement politics is back with a vengeance, it seem we have learned nothing from history.
Andalusia will listen to any group of fascists apparently, Islamic or otherwise, must be a historical quirk...

Glenn Beck gets it, too.
He is presenting this hour long special, 'Exposed: The Extremist Agenda', tomorrow night, Wed Nov 15th, on the other CNN channel, CNN Headline News.
And you may wish to tune into CPAC right now, as NATO Parliamentary Assembly meets in Quebec, discussing Afghanistan.
Bush will block any hasty withdrawl from Iraq and the Dems don't have the strength in the Senate to override a presidential Veto (this is assuming that Republican senators don't vote with the dems).
In my opinion, telling the Iraqi government that they have to get ready to solve their own problems with regard to the sectarian violence is the right thing to do. They must step up to the plate, this reliance on the coalition has gone on long enough.
There are very few outcomes in Iraq that I can see which do not include civil war. Perhaps a partitioning of the country into Shiia, Sunni and Kurdish states is the way to go.
It actually cuts both ways. There are terrorists who also were thrilled that Bush won reelection.
It's unpalatable to see them celebrating anything but at the end of the day, we shouldn't be influenced by their opinions.
It has been clear for some time that the anti-American left, which includes much of the MSM and a large chunk of Americans who voted Democrat, have both wittingly and unwittingly weakened the allied effort to secure Iraq. They couldn't have aided the enemy more if they were card carrying members of al-Quaeda. That al-Quaeda understands this should be obvious.
".... weaken the resolve of the American public"
American resolve is certainly important; but the sad fact is it was never very strong and the average American, like his other western counterparts, has a very short attention span - at best one or two election cycles. Al-Quaeda surely also understands this.
In particular, we need to help people envision what the world would look like with a nuclear-armed Iran. Apart from the dangers of a direct attack on Israel or a suitcase bomb in Washington, it would mean the end of the global nonproliferation regime and the beginning of Iranian dominance in the Middle East.
This defense should be global in scope. There is a crying need in today’s ideological wars for something akin to the Congress for Cultural Freedom of the Cold War, a global circle of intellectuals and public figures who share a devotion to democracy. The leaders of this movement might include Tony Blair, Vaclav Havel, and Anwar Ibrahim.

==============
Informed Conservatives must face up to an unpleasant task ahead.
Mainstream media has failed to properly inform the EU and N. American public and so Bush plans to leave Iraq in the hands of Maliki who plans to install an iron-fisted Iran / Persian Shiia control force over Iraq. This will allow the troops to leave but this * pulled punch *, the last in a series, will label the USA a *Paper Tiger* who cuts and runs.
The real problem however is the powerful rush it gives to OBL, the Taliban and Al Qaeda. This is exactly the Terrorist Homeland that OBL promised to establish in Iraq / the Middle East.
This is all too obvious to us in the conservative Web corner , but all too invisible to the vast and unaware left liberal populations of N. America and the EU.
Bush is failing to LEAD with confidence. Reagan would explain the true and urgent picture to the world through a televised address. I expect President Bush to do that before it*s too late.
Who am I kidding. Bush has the choice of massing more forces to stop Iran from taking over Iraq with Maliki and Muqtada al Sadr or giving up on Iraq in order to win the next election two years from now.
Sadly, Bush and the Republicans are choosing to give up on Iran and world terrorism in a selfish attempt to win the next election. = TG
Al Qaeda's victory celebrations are somewhat premature.
This would be similar to the Nazi's suddenly being cheered on the news of Roosevelt's passing; as if that would have a material effect on the outcome of the war.
Moreover, didn't the Dem Clinton just come to Canada suggesting that we continue with the WOT in Afghanistan.
It would appear Al Qaeda's provocations are woefully misplaced and a complete misread of resolve on the part of the US. Propaganda is always interesting to assess, but for Al Qaeda to assert that they will be 'taking out the White House" seems a little ambitious for those who can't even control Afghanistan or Iraq.
This assertion is about the same level of Goering's bombast that on August 9, 1939, boasted about the strength of the German Luftwaffe. He said "Not a single bomb will fall on the Ruhr. If an enemy plane reaches the Ruhr, my name is not Hermann Göring, you can call me Meier."
Henceforth, we should now call Abu Ayyub al-Masri "Meier".
This is what I wrote to my American friends with Ezra's latist article site attached. One I hope all will read, from the SUN.
I might add. If America does lose the will to fight this war. Than Albertans had better start thinking of making our own nukes. With a quick exit from this Federation that will become over time ever more Islamized, by the year. Eastern Canada will crumble to a PC wasteland. Quebec with delusions of Nationhood will collapse without support.
Most Albertans like me are not sepertists. Just realists.
I fear the Democratic win down South will invigerate the emoters, thieves, liars & socialist elitists to power again. Kyoto With unlimited bank accounts, too follow.
In the years a head we will all have to make big decisions on where our hearts belong. In the colum of the appeasers who will submit to barbarism, or those willing to fight & stay the course of civilization. Its inevatable now. The fench just busted. No sitting room now.
This is pretty much how some people up here, see a Democratic win. In Alberta we will sit back, watch them self destruct , as we have seen our own loony tune socialists hang themselves by there own tounges.
I predict it won't be too long before the moonbat brigade, reverts to form.
Like children they can't help themselves. I suspect where in for two years of recriminations, subpoenas, perhaps even an impeachment attempt.
They have kept there rage in check ,but how long will that last? Particularly when there cherished fantasizes of 911 & other events turn out to be what they really where. Not the bag of lies leftists, with there jihadist brothers have fashioned from air.
I blame the big Government Republicans in name only, for this debacle. These faux conservatives botched it all, by there own greed. With there whimpering immigration inaction.
I only hope that Classical Liberals (A dying breed) & those with enough brain cells, will stem the damage sure to come.
I have given up myself on this war ending with small casualties. Where headed for a major war now, all because we decided to ignore the realities of the World & choose to live in a private universe of denial. I would not even discount a full American revolution in the future over the events if they deteriate.
I just see more appeasement in the future with these jokers. As Churchill said. Appeasement is like feeding a crocodile while hoping your the last one to be eaten.
If the bonfire of self-determination, that is America goes out, or hides it light. Than a new dark age is inevitable.
By the way? Where is the usual rage about stealing the election by the Dems? Bad machines, innuendo about Governors? Oh they won. What a shock when elections have been fixed for so long according to them. Eh?
Frankly I hope I am wrong in every utterance or word typed. When I wish the Democrats do a good job, you know I am worried. No the word terrified comes to mind.
PS As I wrote this the Democrates are already talking about social medicine & withdrawl from Iraq. There salivating over just how many law suites they will bring. I weep for both Nations. The only hope is this becomes such a nightmare these vultures are shown for what they are.
Welcome America, to Liberanoland.

"We have to be unified by the sword, even though disagreements exist between us [between al-Qaeda and Sunni insurgent groups]... "
No.
The dems and al-queda.
"It's unpalatable to see them celebrating anything but at the end of the day, we shouldn't be influenced by their opinions."
Kind of reigns on your parade eh Jose?
You should ignore the similarities.
Revnant Dream, myself and a minority of conservatives who have had time to find the parts and assemble this clear picture, have no doubt about the future.
We all wish it were not so.
I too hope we are all mistaken somehow, but that is impossible given the facts.

Bush hands over control to Maliki, who with Iran*s swat team, Muqtada Al- Sadr, take control over Iraq and allow troops to leave.
Bush thinks this * escape * will give *Publicans a win in the next election.
We and Al Qaeda see this as * cut & run *, and the results will more likely destroy the Republican party and all future hopes for conservatives.
Not to mention the huge boost for world Isamofascism. = TG
Human nature is amazing.
Garth antics are entertaining but have no effect on our lives. Over 100 comments.
Al Qaeda who are aiming to destroy our future. About 10 comments.
Just an observation. = TG
Revnant Dream and TG,
hey guys, how're you doing?
I don't think things are quite as bleak as it appears.
The events surrounding this election are too new for me to have definitive thoughts.
However, a couple of things can be asserted.
Conservatives in the US are still just as conservative and numerous as they were before the election. RD is right, that this election was lost by the Republican Party and not won by Democrats.
Most of the Democrats who won elections had to run as conservatives to manage their success. It very well could be that Democrats will have to assume a more centrist position in their initiatives as they represent states and districts with a balance of conservative voters.
You also need to remember that it takes 60 votes in the Senate for things to become ratified. Right now the Senate is in very much the same situation as when Jim Jeffords was recruited by the Democrats to turn the Senate into a 50-50 proposition. Although I have no great expectations, if Lieberman decides to go Republican, the US Sentate would be 50-50 once again.
With the Senate so close, 60 votes are hard to get. You are looking at a greater possibility of general gridlock than flurries of Democratic legislation. Of course regrettably, Democrats will be able to control what finds its way into the chamber to be voted on.
Conservatives haven't gone anywhere. You guys have both spent time in the US, and you know how huge the audience is for shows like Rush Limbaugh, Dennis Prager, Michael Medved, Laura Ingraham, Bill O'Reilly...
We have guys like Newt Gingrich warming up in the wings as a possible presidential candidate.
So anyway, this is not a situation where conservative voters just completely disengaged from the process.
The Republican Party has been a great disappointment to conservatives, but remember, conservatives live in each state and in every congressional district. And we vote these guys in and out of office. It's not like Canada where citizen participation is indirect, and they've got to make us happy too.
It's a big mess, and I don't have a crystal ball, but "phased withdrawals" can go on for decades, and there's about as much popular sentiment for a more massive presence of troops in Iraq as there is for complete disengagement.
Greg, I think things are bleaker than hell. This election just underscored that too many American sheeple, feed a diet of MSM agenda driven partisanship or purposely clueless, voted to undermine the WOT. Far too few Americans have a clue as to al-Qaeda's agenda. How can people make informed decisions when the MSM acts as a barrrier to all serious discussions, censors what it doesn't like, and, is too stupid to seek or analyze information which we on the internet take for granted?
I'm so disheartened by this election.
I've said this before, if I was an Islamofascist wanting the least disruption to my goals, I'd be a registered Democrat. If one ever hits the White House, God forbid, in '08 we are in deep trouble. If Bush leaves the White House without Iran de-fanged we are in deep trouble.
The terrorists weren't responsible for swinging the Spanish election. Dishonest conservative politicians were responsible.
The conservative government opportunistically tried to blame the terror attacks on the Basques, when it was apparent to most analysts that the attacks were more typical of Al-Qaeda.
Spanish voters quite rightly reacted in disgust to the conservative attempts to manipulate the bombings for their immediate gain.
What was that again, Kent?
Just like Mussolini said:
"The truth is evident to all who are unblinded by dogmatism that men nowadays are tired of liberty."
From the Apr. 7, 1923 issue of TIME magazine
Thus we conclude that the modernist Dem/LIEberal is really a fascist in disguise.
Kent and BigGipp, When the comments page just sits and does nothing after pressing submit. One has to resist pushing submit again. [ Takes willpower to resist, I know. ]
Best to just minimize the comments page, let it sit, and go on from there.
B.C. Monsoons and Sask. snow are making for a limping internet. [ My theory anyway. ]
This better not post more than once.= TG
