A must read by Beryl Wajsman - "A funny thing happened on the way from the rally";
Openly flustered and upset she then abruptly terminated the interview and accused me of pre-judging her. She quickly disconnected her tape recorder from the microphone and stuffed them both into her purse while reaching for her umbrella that I had been holding over her. In a hurry to cross the street, she turned from me but I persisted in reminding her of one thing. The fact that she – a journalist – a member of a profession that should prize individualism and independence, could not accept that people can act without regard to any collectivity was part of a disease destroying our society. So much has been surrendered to statocratic collectivist consensus that even freedom of thought, action and assembly are suspect. And, sadly, the age-old spectres of the “Jew” as outsider, of the “Jewish conspiracy”, still rear its ugly head.

I emailed Beryl about this issue a couple of days back and discussed this issue.
He's written a great column.
Here is my note to him reproduced below:

Dear Beryl,
Great column and an interesting clique mentality revealed at the CBC.
An interesting retort would have been: “Is the Pope Catholic?”
That would have played funny given Quebec’s history.
It is remarkable that there are those who feel that people cannot come together on the basis of anything other than tribalism. It is as if the reporter felt that there are no political objects outside of one’s tribe that are worthy of the common good. Or rather, the proposition, that there is no such thing as the common good.
Obviously, the predetermined perception that ordinary folk cannot reach beyond the confines of their tribe, was going to be the spin for the ‘story’. The thesis advanced of course, being a dialectical tribalism, which prevents synthetic conclusion.
Say hello to Hegel!
The nature of the question, betrays the philosophical foundations.
Of course the reporter was only being ‘objective’.
In short, populations cannot rise above their ethno-centric roots.
This would in part then explain why Quebecer’s, according to these predeterminations, will never accept their place in Confederation. This is the advocacy of the notion that pure laine is a reasonable construct to approach the Canadian federation.
The proposition that enthno-religious centrism, predetermines outcome of course is patently false.
Where is Mordecai Richler when you need him?
Cheers

"why I am so often asked my religion only by Francophone reporters"
The Frogs are among the worst anti-Semites. They stood by, drank wine, smoked gauloise, ate cheeses and the women f*^%#ed the soldiers while the Germans rounded up the Jews for extermination. They are dispicable.
In Quebec, just replace "Germans" with "Musilms."
Identity politics prevents many, particular those in the academic left, from seeing anybody as "just a person". To these people there is no such thing. You are defined by your gender, "race" (a scientifically questionable concept), handicap (or lack of), sexual preferences, and so on.
Such people are convinced that they fight for social justice, and are absolutely flabbergasted by the classic liberal view that to persist in judging people by such criteria is bigotry.
Some on SmallDeadGophers may be shocked by my use of the "L" word, but it appears that modern liberals have abandoned classic liberalism, and modern conservatives have picked up the banner.
A big thank you to "The Last Angry Man"! Courage to stand against a poisonous black tide of lies and bullying will eventually win the majority of hearts and minds.
I'll be thinking of Beryl's wise words on the 11th hour of Rememberance Day. It is as individuals we chose between right and wrong. The fight to recognize right choices over the wrong never ends and courageous individuals willing to sacrifice selflessly will always be needed to progress civilization. Sacrifice is what makes life meaningful and courage is what makes sacrifice possible.
What a tremendous article and encounter by Wajsman- and yes, it's small 'l' liberalism - that's been picked up by the Conservatives. In that sense, the CPC and Harper are the genuine progressives in Canada. The Liberals, NDP and Bloc are all stuck in the isolationism and relativism of group identity politics, aka multiculturalism.
That's what Pope Benedict was talking about with his concern for the rejection of Reason. It's individuals who Reason - groups only operate within emotional walls of isolation.
It's a pity that hippie 940 banishes "the last angry man" to the slot after the evening drive; it really is a great radio show and Beryl Wajsman is one of the few sane people allowed on the radio here in moonbat heaven.
I'm not sure this has as much to do with religion as it has to do with projecting ones own attitudes to others. Those that always function from a sense of self interest can't imagine anyone else functioning differently. It doesn't occur to them. This self-defense mechanism is common, and since it is a self defense mechanism, exposure would cause insecurity and anger.
The MSNM, the NDP, and the Liberals can't believe some of Harper's decisions. "Arn't you concerned how this will affect your votes in Quebec, in Alberta, etc" is the most common question asked by interviewers. It is incomprehensible to them that someone would do the "thing best for Canada", than the thing that will garner the most votes.
Oh boo hoo. There's nothing wrong with asking a person's ethnicity in the reporting of the story, Wasjman is a bigger crybaby than the worst NDPer.
If the media really were anti-Jewish ol' Beryl would not have his own radio show. If he's so bent out of shape about it then maybe he can complain the the Jewish head of CBC, Bob Rabinovitch, lol....
It's nice to see you're now promoting Liberal bagmen. By next year I expect you'll be pointing to columns by Jean Brault.
Hello, Rob't - is this another drive-by posting? Would you like to elaborate on your one-line comment, or is this about as much intellectual exercise as your constitution will bear?
Perhaps, McClelland, "Liberal bagmen" are waking up. It's still not too late for most people, other than the brain deceased, like yourself and Boob.
Here you go, Rick.

Perhaps I am Jew! I'm not sure....how can I tell?
Bagman?

"How convenient that Dezainde ?destroyed? the letters he attempts to smear me with. Well I have letters from the people we served and in what capacity and have deposited them with the Gomery Commission."
I'm in complete agreement with what Mr. Wasjman has said in his article.
I couldn't have said it that well myself. But I've said much the same things, so I found myself saying, "Yes, precisely! That's exactly it!" as I read the article.
Mr. Wasjman is a very wise man indeed.
Lehayim, Beryl! :)
Doug: "The Frogs are among the worst anti-Semites. They stood by, drank wine, smoked gauloise, ate cheeses and the women f*^%#ed the soldiers while the Germans rounded up the Jews for extermination. They are dispicable."
I guess Doug has no problem with identity politics.
"Are you a Jew?"
Of course. We're all Jews now. Is Paris burning?
Isn't that the first question asked of those planning to migrate to Israel?
What's good for me is not for thee.
