UN High Commissioner for Hypocrisy

It's tempting to write something uncharitable about this

Arbour, a former Supreme Court of Canada justice, was not hurt when rockets landed a few hundred metres away from her entourage at a factory, but a worker at the facility was seriously injured.

After Arbour's group heard a loud explosion and saw plumes of smoke, Israeli rescue officials immediately rushed to the scene.

"I was on the outskirts of a factory immediately after it was hit," Arbour said.

"I understand somebody was seriously wounded and so I think first of all I want to express my deepest sympathy for the people, for the family of the person who was wounded and say how much I share their sense of hopelessness, and vulnerability and frustration, frankly, to have been so exposed."

No. she doesn't. And Israelis know it.
She started her tour Monday in the Palestinian town of Beit Hanoun, where she met with the families of 19 Palestinian civilians killed by errant Israeli artillery fire.

She angered Israeli officials by condemning Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip and told Palestinians that the world has not abandoned them.

On Tuesday, after the rocket attack, she expressed sympathy for Israelis in Sderot, a town that Israeli officials say has been targeted by at least 1,000 Palestinian Kassam rockets since the start of the year.

Arbour, who continued her tour with the mayor of Sderot, got an angry reception from a few residents who believe the United Nations is biased against Israel. Some people pounded on her car, while several workers at a chicken-slaughtering plant threw stones at her vehicle and shouted curses when she came to see the result of Palestinian rocket fire firsthand.

Update: For all the coverage her "close call", this development seems to have received coverage only in the Israeli press; - "Louise Arbour has decided not to meet with the families of the kidnapped soldiers during her visit to Israel . The families of Ehud Goldwasser, Eldad Regev and Gilad Shalit have approached the commissioner two weeks ago already, but after a series of evasive answers, the negative and final answer came Tuesday."

You have to give the creep a little credit for actually looking into the Israeli's problem with those thousands of mysterious missiles that keep falling out of the sky. Too bad she still hasn't a clue that it's related to Israeli military action in Gaza, maybe after she's pondered it for a while back in New York she'll manage to put 2+2 together. Personally, if I had thousands of missiles randomly raining down on my community I'd expect my government's military arm to carpet bomb the source flatter than piss on a platter...

She has cut her visit short, according to a report on cbc just now. News clips show her being protested against. Women in high places are not getting great press. Pelosi, Arbour, BS, so Hillory should be worried. Thankfully, Arbour is no longer on our Supreme Court. I am sure that I am not the only one thinking the rocket was perhaps a failed attack. Another assassination in Lebanon. Would someone please explain the difference between the shiites and sunis, other than their ability and desire to kill each other.

I'm going a bit on memory here, but anyway ...

The Shi'ites believe that the caliphs who followed after Mohammed's death should be his direct descendents. They wanted Ali, his son-in-law, to be the 1st caliph, followed by Ali's descendents.

As it was, Ali was the 4th caliph, and a schism formed between those who accepted this versus those who didn't.

There are other differences between the two groups, but this is what started it all.

Another U N moment jews bad! heroic freedom fighters (terroists) good. Why is the U N so irelevant , and a waste of time ???

UN..the last refuge of useless bureaucrats, socialist operatives, international fraudsters and amoral hucksters.........

Are these the 19 killed on the beach?

LGF has de-bunked the incident were civilian

beach goers were killed by Israel firing

artillery shells from their naval force.

An arms cache of rocketry was set off accidently

BY THE PAL on the beach...

P/S

As per usual the leftards blame everything on the Joooooooooooooooooos... oh, and George Bush!

Clearly the former leftwing activist SCOC judge condemned Israel's self-defensive actions against the Islamofascists while simply expressing sympathy for those injured on the Israeli side by the Islamofascists. That's not even "even-handed"- it's pure bias, which she doesn't really try to hide.

What do we expect from a leftist, anyway?

Can't say I'm surprised.

It's the way it is, unfortunately, but we can at least speak out against such dangerous stupidity/intolerance/bias/prejudice.

The left has no business telling everyone what's what and trying to make so all that which they wish to be so. The left must be resisted, as must the jihadists.

Arbour is clearly biased.

Then again, as an agent of the so-called "United Nations", Arbour must think as she's told. I doubt she'd be in that position if she was a realistic person who could see the truth for herself, which is that the Muslims are responsible for starting and for keeping all MidEast conflicts going and that Israel is only trying to defend herself. Truth is taboo in the UN!

Sentinel,

Agree with what you say except your description of Arbour.

She is not a former leftwing activist judge, she is leftwing activist former judge. In her case, once a leftist, always a leftist.

Years ago the bald headed guy from Midnight Oil showed up in B.C. and got essentially the same treatment from out-of-work loggers. I love when dipspits get in-their-face feedback.

Last night while driving I listened to the story about Louise Arbour on the CBC (gasp). The whole story was about the plight of Palestinian civilians and not one, NOT ONE (!) single solitary word was mentioned about the Israeli citizens being rocketed to death or blown to bits by car bombs.

What is more, the story went on to talk about Hamas using human shields because it is so very necessary as a last resort to stop "Israeli aggression". Bullshit. The Palestinians have been using human shields for as long as I can remember. And in relation to that, these terrorist scum are living and carrying out their rocket attacks from inside their own population centres and these human shields protect them after they carry out these attacks. Yet more fodder for left wing idiots like Arbour to digest and spew out.

*Sigh* I really should stop listening to the CBC when I'm driving. Nothing another driver has ever done has ever caused me more road rage than the CBC.

"once a leftist, always a leftist".

'Always' almost ended, but for 800 yards, today.

Too bad the terrorists missed.

It would have been a sweet irony if this lickspittle propagandist for terror was killed by those she fetishized.

Arbour needs to be a darwin award. Sooner is better.

Nothing, no-thing, on cbc.ca of relevance to Arbour's hit-and-run incident, except for this:

She left the summit disappointed. Arbour is Moses?

...-

"And with Martin's minority government likely to fall Monday, the $5.1-billion commitment is not guaranteed.

Some aboriginal leaders left the summit disappointed."

Last year, was Louise Arbour not leaving the UN for Waterloo, Ont ?? Joining the Centre for International Governance Innovation ?? CIGI.

From memory, John Manely, with (your)$30 Million, matched Jim Basille's (Blackberry guy) $30 Million to set it up. Thought LB was coming from Mo's UN.

Do these two sound similiar ?? One World Governance // Centre for International Governance Inovation. Like, I represent the World Government and I'm here to help. mmmmm

Idiots missed.

Warwick 1:39pm and Western Canadian 3:35pm :

Careful what you wish for. Even though the rockets are Palestinian rockets, you can be sure the usual suspects would find a way to blame Israel. Oh, and a way to blame George Bush as well.

Felise

Probably but unlike now, there'd be on less leftard, socialist, meddling judge joining their anti-semitic rantings.

Progress, one darwin award at a time!

Wow. Numerous posts wishing death on Ms. Arbour. Nobody hates like the withered-brained cowardly liars of the right-wing.

Carry on stoops!

And here's a post wishing death on you, thwap! Just so you don't feel left out and just to keep our image up.

By the way, nobody LOVES terrorists and dhimmitude like hypocritical, can't-see-the-forest-for-the-trees, moronic lefties such as yourself.

Wow, making moronic generalizations and purposefully feigned outrage such as your comment is fun! Thanks for the example.

Ann Arbour is a goddess.

timing is everything !!!

awwww ya MISSED im.

LOL !!!

Anth: Ann Arbour (sic) is a town in Michigan. Louise Arbour is (apparently) a jew-hating hypocrite.

Ann Archer on the other hand is one of those ladies with the stunning classic good looks and ever so slightly breathy huskiness in her voice.

aw man where's the cold faucet when I need it ..... LOL !!!

See the kind of individual, in Arbour, that used to sit on the bench of the Supreme Court of Canada?

See her poor, biased judgement? See her leftist activism?

This is an impartial individual?

No. This is a biased, activist leftist.

What was she doing making final decisions for Canadians? This individual?

This only helps found the case I make that the courts are full of leftwing activists and pigheadedly biased incompetents.

Time to elect judges. Elections would weed out the misfits and radicals at least some of the time.

What is really known about those who sit on the SCOC bench? Some were appointed by a Liberal Prime Minister. And it was also a Liberal appointment that gave the former CBC Chairman his job (the one who got fired for discussing Lebanese bestiality and enjoyment of taking dumps). The Canadian people don't know what criteria really led Liberal PMs to appoint SCOC justices like Arbour. And that's frightening.

Hassle, I forgot her name was Louise Arbour . . . embarrassing . . .

I personally believe that Madame Arbour is doing her job. She isn't only bickering about Israel's missiles strikes into the Gaza Strip. She also plans on speaking with the Palestinian Authority, condemning them on their overall performance in providing proper, and adequate human rights to their people.

Wow you really got some strange logic. So Arbour has no sympathy because she also sympathies with the Palestinian people.Like what the hey...

The criteria you ask? Why brown envelopes stuffed with cash my friend. How easy is that?

"Wow. Numerous posts wishing death on Ms. Arbour."

Take your complaint to the parties responsible for firing the rocket.

MM-11.31- Do you mean all this killing etc is because someone didn't get a job a few thousand years ago. Talk about holding a grudge. Sort of like Martin and Chretain without the deaths. Lets hope next wkend doesn't lead to the same thing, with 7 losers. Worse yet, they will probably be in cabinet if libs ever get back into power. That is scary. Has anyone seen or heard of Scott in the past few weeks.

Mme. Arbour should be in Sudan witnessing real war crimes. One hundred thousand dead, two million displaced, "Move along, nothing to see here!"

Mary,

It seems that there was a lot of jockeying for position shortly after the death of Mohammed, including violent conflict between the forces of Ali the son-in-law and those of Mohammed's child bride, Aisha. As you point out, the reverberations are still felt to this day.

Some quotes from a web page I found:

Worldwide, Shias constitute ten to fifteen percent of the overall Muslim population.

The Shia Imam has come to be imbued with Pope-like infallibility and the Shia religious hierarchy is not dissimilar in structure and religious power to that of the Catholic Church within Christianity.

Sunni Islam, in contrast, more closely resembles the myriad independent churches of American Protestantism. Sunnis do not have a formal clergy, just scholars and jurists, who may offer non-binding opinions. Shias believe that their supreme Imam is a fully spiritual guide, inheriting some of Muhammad's inspiration ("light") . Their imams are believed to be inerrant interpreters of law and tradition.

Shia theology is distinguished by its glorification of Ali. In Shia Islam there is a strong theme of martyrdom and suffering, focusing on deaths of Ali and, particularly, Hussein plus other important figures in the Shia succession.

"Wow. Numerous posts wishing death on Ms. Arbour. Nobody hates like the withered-brained cowardly liars of the right-wing."

Except the left-wingnut fanaticals who found glee in the lives lost in 9-11 saying it looks good on them right?

Paulstuff: Except the left-wingnut fanaticals who found glee in the lives lost in 9-11 saying it looks good on them right?

If you condemned those "left-wingnut fanaticals" then, then for consistency's sake, shouldn't you also condemn the wishful thinkers on this thread now? Or do two wrongs make a right?

Kate: Take your complaint to the parties responsible for firing the rocket.

Regardless of whether the rocket was in fact targetting Ms. Arbour, you don't think it's a little tasteless to be making statements wishing that she had in fact been killed?

An al Qaeda operative attempts to assassinate PM Harper. S/he fails. Somebody comes onto your blog and states "Too bad the terrorist missed." That too would be acceptable in your book?

Yeah, it's tasteless. So is much of the commentary deposited here by the left, and I let that stand.

What's your problem?

"If you condemned those "left-wingnut fanaticals" then, then for consistency's sake, shouldn't you also condemn the wishful thinkers on this thread now? Or do two wrongs make a right?

I agree. Both sides are wrong in this type of talk.Nice to see you admit the left-wing makes such disgusting comments like the one i mentioned..And you must condemn comments like this one you made right?"Wow. Numerous posts wishing death on Ms. Arbour. Nobody hates like the withered-brained cowardly liars of the right-wing."

And for consistency,i'm sure you would agree to the blatant bias against Israel by Arbour and the MSM.

I hear that UN secratary General KOFFI ANNAN own body guards have been violating NYCs infamous gun control laws i mean this is the same bunch who want to disarm us its time to remove the UN from our nations soil

Mme. Arbour should be in Sudan witnessing real war crimes. One hundred thousand dead, two million displaced, "Move along, nothing to see here!"

She was in Darfur not to long ago. A reason there has been developments from the Sudanese Government to allow the African Union & the United Nations to come into Darfur and protect those who have been displaced in refugee camps.

I hear that UN secratary General KOFFI ANNAN own body guards have been violating NYCs infamous gun control laws i mean this is the same bunch who want to disarm us its time to remove the UN from our nations soil

Kofi Annan is a high profile foreign diplomat currently residing in New York City. International Law dictates that diplomats, are allowed to have armed security to protect them if there life is placed in harms' way. The United Nations hasn't called on the United States to drop her arms permanently. They have only talked in the open against the illegal and unprovoked invasion of Iraq, and the United Nations' Headquarters is international territory.

Ha-ha-ha! Stop it! You’re killing me!! ;)

So, let me get this straight. I notice and mention numerous posters wishing death on Louise Arbour, and you respond to my “moronic generalizations” by wishing death on me?

How cool is that?!?

What, so if I were to point out that you’d stepped in doggy-doo, your response would be to pick it up and smear it all over your face and yell at me for being critical?

To think that someone like you imagines your opinion about anything at all is worth another human being’s time.

"Wow. Numerous posts wishing death on Ms. Arbour."

Take your complaint to the parties responsible for firing the rocket.

I should complain about the Canadians who wished death on Ms. Arbour to the Palestinians who fired the missile? I rather think that when (if) I ever get a chance to respond to a Palestinian bragging about firing missiles at civilians I’ll discuss his actions, not the actions of Canadians on a discussion board somewhere.

And I’ll complain about the ugly mentalities of some of the posters here, here.

Yeah, it's tasteless. So is much of the commentary deposited here by the left, and I let that stand.

What's your problem?

For the record, my problem is the hatred that’s bubbling just under the surface of these sociopaths. You can let it stand, or not, I’m not commenting on the absence of censorship, I’m commenting on the murderous, tastelessness of the attitudes on display.

But just to stay focused, Louise Arbour is hardly the most committed critic of the actions of Israel. And if you guys could get over your comforting delusion that everyone who criticizes Israel isn't a Nazi-variety Jew-hater, maybe there could be a conversation.

Otherwise it's just one side saying Palestinian rage is justified and the other side saying Israeli rage is justified, with neither side bothering to bring reason and logic into the picture. Just ugly wishing of death on one's political opponents.

And were Louise Arbour to have been killed by that missile, it would have no more "proved" the stupidity of the critics of Israel, then the killing of that Canadian soldier at the UN observation post (during Israel's attack on Lebanon last summer) "proves" that supporters of Israel are stupid.

Grow up people.

"Otherwise it's just one side saying Palestinian rage is justified and the other side saying Israeli rage is justified, with neither side bothering to bring reason and logic into the picture. Just ugly wishing of death on one's political opponents.

As far as i know Israel just wants to live in peace and be left alone.Thats pretty hard to do when terrorists are firing rockets at you on a daily basis.

Palestinians rage is based on hatred for a human race.Israels is based on defending and reacting to this racism based on the violence and attacks against them.Heres an example of unprovoked attacks.

"Even before this summer, attacks against Israel were common. For example, in the aftermath of Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon in 2000, a Hezbollah group masquerading as UN personnel kidnapped three Israelis; in 2002, a Hezbollah group crossed the international boundary, infiltrated a kibbutz, fired on a school bus, and killed six persons. Since Israel withdrew from Gaza a year ago, over 1,000 rockets have rained down on Israeli towns such as Sderot. Overall, Israel has suffered over 1,100 civilian deaths from terror since 2000.

thwap: You're funny! Your feelings are returned, by the way...I couldn't care less about what you say.

Before you cast SDA commentors as hate-filled rednecks, try reading some of the commentors on Rabble.ca. In case you couldn't figure it out, this is a forum for FREE SPEECH (under Kate's guidelines, of course) and FREE THOUGHT. The words that are written here are OBVIOUSLY exaggerations of the writers intent to make a point.

I suppose if someone were to tell you to F-O-A-D, you'd take that as a death threat, eh? I suppose you've never said anything of the sort to anyone else, have you? Right...hypocrite!

You're the one that needs to grow up, buddy.

Yikes, just imagine the MSM coverage and 'outrage' if she'd been in Gaza and an Israeli shell hit nearby!

I can guarantee that that story would get just a tad more play than this one!!
