Just when you thought political correctness couldn't become any more ridiculous.
A ranking Democrat in the House of Representative is apologizing for saying an African-American Senate candidate "slavishly" supported the Republican Party.House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, said he meant no offense when he made the remark about Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, the GOP nominee for the seat being vacated by longtime Democratic Sen. Paul Sarbanes.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Hoyer said, "I should not have used those words."
Dems charge Republicans were niggardly in their acceptance of the apology.

And for people who might not know, the word "niggardly" [stingy, parsimonious] isn't connected at all to the word they think it is and it certainly isn't the root. Apparently (Canadian Oxford Dictionary), this word's probably from Scandinavia (original word, "nigon"), via Middle English.
BTW, even with certain students of mine, I call a spade a spade: Expecting them to uphold the high standards I set helps them as much as it does my other students.
Such slavish--BTW, slaves come in all colours--adherence to the idiocies of PC is a travesty we should expose and ridicule--thanks, Kate!--whenever it rears its ugly, obsequious, pernicious, and dark head.
I hereby dub this an 'oreotorical faux pas'?
How niggardly!
A dark day for America.
I'm "slavic". I'm a slave to my good looks!
Dems are injun givers!
I'm sure all persons of color everywhere were deeply offended by Mr. Hoyer's unfortunate remarks.
I'd like to invite him to take a short vacation with me here in Canada, to collect his thoughts and contemplate his lack of racial sensitivity.
We could maybe go duck hunting up at Great Slave Lake.

With the entire double standard on gays (Foley)in Congress, does this surprise anyone?
The Left is rotten to the core.
According to Thomas Sowell in his book "Black Rednecks and White Liberals" the term "slave" is a derivation/corruption of "Slav" referring to the fact that for ages Slavs constituted the largest source of slaves in coutries around the mediterranean. Black slavery did not become prominent in European experience until much later and slavery was never exclusively a Black African phenomenon. The fact that Lib/Dems are so pre-occupied with their turns of phrase and choice of individual words reflects their obsession with form over substance.
Guess the Dems are racists and bigots, then, the whole rotload of 'em... according to leftist illogic, anyway...
Next thing we know a Democrat will get in trouble for saying "I'm going outside to light up a fag."
Funny how folks can take words way out of context, ain't it?
Except that slavish is a derivative of slave -- unlike niggardly.
I'm "slavic". I'm a slave to my good looks!

LOL. And you're too sexy for your shirt, I'm sure.
Rightwingprof: for context, google news 'niggardly' and see the controversy that led to a city counsellor's firing for using that word accurately in a sentence.
And Sowell's book should be required reading by left and right alike. Simply amazing.
Now if only his royal little snottyness TED KENNEDY would appoligise for all wht he has done but being a member of the upper crust of would be kings its beneath his dignity
If truth be told, MenoDhimmi, I'm juuuuust a little too fat for my shirt.
But my new treadmill is making me all biff and buff!
Shorter Canadian Sentinnel: "Kate, let me suckle on your toes."
You can find lots of enslaved Blacks throughout the Muslim world, of course.
Drumroll, please.
Oh sorry, your drumming arms have been cut off.
My bad.
Who you callin' a Spade??? A Democrat will never get in trouble for saying "I'm going outside to light up a fag." because that's not an American word that anybody would use, besides which they are immune to the standards to which they hold others, and for them hypocrisy is never an issue.
They would however get in trouble for going outside for a smoke (unless it's pot) because Big Tobacco is a forbidden and unholy fruit which must be attacked with lawsuits in order to extract money.
DirtCrashr... the Dems are known to smoke "pot" as well as "fags".
They also like to gather around bonfires built with brought-along bundles of sticks, or "faggots"...
Oh, dear... I'm in trouble now with the feared Political Correctness Waffen-Schutzstaffel...
The context in this case is the reason for the reaction (see Michelle Malkin Oct 18). Hoyer was looking for a laugh from his audience, and there was no doubt that the racial slur was intended. If you'll recall, Mr. Steele has been the brunt of many other incidents, from being called an Uncle Tom and being pelted with Oreo cookies. It's a nasty race, and this was more of the same.
Perfect! After all, Hoyer is the "House Minority Whip".
Josie is probably right. The remarks were intended for only a select audience.
Thanks, josie. It certainly changes the whole perspective of this story with a racist bullying Dem plying his trade(they are masters of it). I generally trust Malkin's instincts:
"I was prepared to write that Hoyer had gotten a bad rap, that perhaps the Steele campaign was a little too sensitive, and that GOP staffers had read too much into Hoyer's remarks.
But then I read more about the context of his remarks and Hoyer's past history of race-based insults against Steele. Hoyer didn't just innocently use the word in ordinary conversation..."

Nothing brings the full wrath of the Democrats out in the open than a black that escapes their victim plantation.
I'm going with Michelle Malkin on this.

Here is the rest of the CNN article. You will note that the Republican spokesman, Doug Heye, takes strong offence to the statements by Hoyer.
Hoyer was speaking to a largely black audience at a campaign event for Steele's Democratic opponent, U.S. Rep. Ben Cardin, when he made the comment.
Steele's spokesman, Doug Heye, called Hoyer's comments "insensitive and pretty stupid."
While Hoyer apologized for the comments, he continued to criticize Steele's support of the GOP.
"If Mr. Steele did in fact take offense, let me assure him that none was intended," Hoyer said. "But Mr. Steele continuously tries to divert attention from the fact that he is an unwavering supporter of the Republican agenda and of President Bush and Vice President Cheney."
Hoyer's office also released a statement from Melvin Forbes, a black businessman who sponsored the campaign event, who said "there was absolutely no offense taken or noticed."
Heye disagreed, saying there are "a great deal of people upset about it."
Steele's campaign released statements from leaders of the National Black Church Initiative that condemned Hoyer's comments.
"This is nothing new for Steny Hoyer," said Heye.
He said that in 2002, Hoyer was quoted referring to Steele as a "token" candidate -- although Hoyer said at the time that he was quoted out of context.

So we have one whacko state that's just proved it has the bomb, and an even crazier one (Iran) waiting in the wings for the West's non-retalliatory response to prove it should finish its own Manhattan project and deal with Israel once and for all...
... and these idiots are worrying about reading in racist terms to ages-old language? Have I got that right?
And is this really planet earth? Or did I wake up someplace else?
I think we should start recording and playing backwards EVERY bit of public speech from our elected officials, and spend requisite hours listening for any vague or questionable backwards-masked utterings whereby we could also hold them to account. We need sound engineers slaving - er, toiling - on this 24/7.
Because that'd be the enlightened and progressive thing to do in the 21st century, right? It's not like there's anything more important to worry about, is there?

Im going to patent a universal fully adaptable integratable memory device containing all politically incorrect phrases, words, nay, even thoughts and concepts so that any output in any manner from any source or medium is filtered by the device.
Im gonna be the next Bill Gates with this baby.
Don't laugh. Some poor bastard in Washington lost his job for saying "niggardly" because Democrats are too stupid and too illiterate to speak proper English.
Aside from my disdain for PC/leftist thought police, I have as much contempt for stupid illiterate jackasses with a chip on their shoulder who don't realise when to keep their mouths shut.
I'm aware of the "niggardly" controversy.
"Next thing we know a Democrat will get in trouble for saying "I'm going outside to light up a fag.""
Actually, if a Democrat said that down here, he'd get a double take. "Fag" for "cigarette" is, to say the least, exotic here (though it's possible along the border, that wouldn't be the case).
No, if you want to see PC taken to the extreme end of idiocy, see here.
Im waiting for the day when having to say the politically correct thing about Muslims will be called Muzzel.
as in Paris Stronach , someone should muzzel that bee'atch.
