My laptop has been giving me some difficulty this weekend - I think the thing is on its last legs. So, until I return home sometime Monday, this readers tips post will have to do. Sorry about that!

You know what to do.

"While a poll was being released about the Tories' popularity with women, the Liberals were contracting an audio specialist to scan the question period tapes and confirm MacKay's canine comparison."

I'm just hoping Bill Graham and the rest of the, oh-so-suddenly, feminista Liberals aren't using my tax dollars to pay for this. Actually, knowing the loose Liberal ethics on paying for stuff out of their own pockets, they're probably trying to co-opt the Communications Security Establishment to do this on the down-low.

"The KGB Letter and Allegations of Treason"

Cybercast News Service and a blog, Hot Air, among others reported on October 20, 2006 that in 1983 Kennedy (along with former Senator John Tunney, both Democrats) wrote a memo to former KGB Chairman and then current General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Yuri Andropov. This memo offered to collaborate with the USSR’s political and military leadership to conduct a public relations campaign to oust Ronald Reagan as President of the United States during the 1984 general election.

At that time the Soviet Union was engaged in cold war with the United States and was widely considered to be the USA’s main enemy and rival for power in the world. Each country was also in possession of a vast arsenal of nuclear weapons and other weapon systems such as surface naval ships, ballistic missile submarines, strategic nuclear bombers, land based atomic canons, and cruise missiles.

In the event of a hot war, initial nuclear warheads would have landed on U.S. soil within 5-minutes of hostilities from Soviet SLBM submarines and in large numbers from ICBMs within 30-minutes. Opposing the Soviet Union and attempting to defeat Soviet Communism, which Ronald Reagan helped accomplished in his subsequent presidential term, was official U.S. foreign policy.

Because of this, several bloggers and commentators consider Ted Kennedy’s actions to be treason.

Article III, Section 3, Paragraph 1, of the Constitution of the United States:
“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or, in adhering to their Enemies, giving them aid and comfort.” The “aid and comfort” prong of treason has been interpreted by the Supreme Court of the United States as requiring proof of four elements:
1) an intent to betray the United States (which can be inferred from); 2) an overt act;
3) witnessed by two people; and
4) that provides aid and comfort to an enemy of the United States.

I’m just shocked.

And Kennedy’s don’t shock me easily.

This man should spend his last breath behind bars. If the Bush White House doesn’t prosecute him, then he’s too weak for the job.

This is unreal. The U.S.A. and my country, for ____ sakes, were always within 30-minutes or less of Soviet nuclear warheads raining down on us. It wasn’t called the cold war for nothing.

And they were trying to defeat this president as Mary Katherine Ham so rightly pointed out.

However, not everyone shares the belief that Kennedy should be held criminally responsible for this act.

Regardless, friends, doesn't senior elected Democrats' willingness to collude with foreign powers in the past to unseat a sitting and duly elected President allude to their perhaps being a risk of them doing this again?

And if they do, couldn't they once again enjoy the stunning electoral victory they enjoyed in 1984?

woofwoof.

So to summarize the above because I lead into it badly, Ted Kennedy wrote a letter to the former KGB head Yuri Andropov in 1983 to help him with propaganda to defeat Ronald Reagan in the 1984 general election.

That's news, isn't it?

The Main Stream Media in Canada is quickly loosing it's propagandist power in Canada. It is soooo obvious. Even their own on-line polls are going against them. Even if they rig their questions. The commenters are turning against their stories. Even though they try hard to spin opinion. The media even tries to promote hoaxes like Kyoto. Even their own readers can see through the falsehoods.

Are they skewing the comment sections in their favour?? Are they skewing their poll results?? Who knows, but they still seem to be falling out of favour.

Bono is at a U2 concert in Glasgow when he asks the audience for some quiet.

Then in the silence, he starts to slowly clap his hands.

Holding the audience in total silence, he says softly and seriously into the microphone ...

"Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies......"

A voice from near the front pierces the silence: "Well, fucken' stop doin' it then!"

I saw this on the Army recruiting website under 'How to Join':

"Note: The Canadian Forces Applicant Physical Fitness Test is eliminated from the selection process for the effective October 1, 2006."

I checked Google News and didn't see any mention of this change. When did they decide this? Where was the press release?

I'm not sure how comfortable I am being defended by a chubby and winded red line.

Re children dying in Africa. Where are all the bodies. There should be hundreds of funerals per day, why isn't some TV reporter showing them. Sorry, I don't believe it. Yes, children die everyday somewhere. Africa is a huge continent. My doctor is from South Africa, (white) and I have asked him about this. He is returning because his wife wont take another Cdn winter, she prefers to lie on the beach instead of shovelling snow. Many are dying because black muslims are killing other blacks. If Bono is so concerned, why isn't he spending his own money to do something about it. And, if he is so concerned why is he moving his group to another area to avoid paying taxes, which could be used for foreign aid. Hypocrite.

"... and kindly pay you're fuckin' taxes!"

"... and kindly pay you're fuckin' taxes!"

What they will do if they're forced to lower initial fitness standards, Robert, is still go with a good basic medical test for health and biomechanical fitness then, since they know darn well they're preparing troops for war as opposed to generally getting them ready as quickly as possible for eventual use "one day", they'll take a bit more time (since the troops need intensive training and some cohesion time with their unit or a similar unit hear in Canada to learn how to work as a team) raising their fitness standard, perhaps starting a bit more slowly.

I went through Reserve basic and infantry training in the 90s and routine sports injuries due to people not being prepared for training is a definite problem the military's aware of. They need people to graduate their courses so I assume they're focussing more attention on this not less.

Anyone involved in current land forces training that wants to contradict me, please go ahead, but I think my analysis is very close.

maryT:

Canada has 32.6 million people. In 2000 the death rate was 7.2 per 1,000. That translates to more than 600 deaths per day.

When was the last time you saw a (non-military) funeral in Canada? Just because they're not on TV doesn't mean they don't happen.

Have you ever been to Africa? It's like driving around an Indian Reserve - fewer lawn sofas but worse plumbing. I think the main reason you don't see these funerals on TV (outside of the fact that it'd mortally piss off the people holding the funerals) is that most africans don't live in cities so it's bloody difficult to drive out to where they live to intrude on their personal moment of grief. Plus where's the NEWs in it?

And it's not hundreds of funerals per day. South Africa - the most advanced country on the continent has a death rate of 22/1000. Based on a population of about 700,000,000 Africans, that gives you something like 40,000 funerals per day or 1 every 2 seconds.

I'd respect Bono's politics more if he went to Africa, sought out the murderous dictators, and waged his finger in their faces.
I'd then respect Bono's guitar playing more... with nine fingers!

Seeing as I was already being a masochist doing my half-hour workout on the cross trainer at the gym yesterday (more than a cosmetic pasttime at my age), I turned the TV channel to the Liberal leadership (sic) debate on the CBC. At least I didn't have to listen to the Librel Drivel; Van Morrison's Greatest Hits set the pace for my workout. (Gloria, Sweet Thing, Full Force Gale, Domino, Queen of the Slipstream, kept things moving nicely...but I digress.)

The closed captioning, often hilariously incomprehensible, 'couldn't have been worse than the candidates' actual talking points. What crap. These guys, including Martha Hall Finlay, told lies and half lies throughout their anti-PMSH, CPC diatribes, which are essentially unpaid election speeches. Quebec also came in for lionization: Hear me roar. Well hear me gag and throw up.

The Liberal leadership race is as much about completely annihilating PMSH and his CPC government as it is about choosing a leader. The only thing that matters to them is clawing their way back into power in order to get their grubby little--make that BIG--paws back into the national coffers. It must be very irritating to have to pay for everything out of their own pockets.

It is truly disheartening to see the shameless shenanigans of these would-be Librano leaders. There isn't one of them with a principled bone in their body. If Canadians return the Liberals to power, then the drainage of the swamp, which the CPC has effectively begun, will be promptly ended. We'll be back to the Librano'$ toxic, stinking soup. We, the proles, will again become pond scum while our dictatorial overlords navigate their fiefdom in luxury. They're different from the rest of us--which, of course, means that they have a divine right to rule...

I shake my head when I think of my father and grandfathers who fought in WWI and WWII--for this?

Sweden's Muslim minister turns on veil
The Sunday Times ^ | October 22, 2006 | Helena Frith Powell

THE latest media darling of Scandinavian politics is not only black, beautiful and Muslim; she is also firmly against the wearing of the veil.

Nyamko Sabuni, 37, has caused a storm as Sweden’s new integration and equality minister by arguing that all girls should be checked for evidence of female circumcision; arranged marriages should be criminalised; religious schools should receive no state funding; and immigrants should learn Swedish and find a job.

Supporters of the centre-right government that came to power last month believe that her bold rejection of cultural diversity may make her a force for change across Europe. Her critics are calling her a hardliner and even an Islamophobe.

“I am neither,” she said in an interview. “My aim is to integrate immigrants. One is to ensure they grow up just as any other child in Sweden would.”

Sabuni believes all immigrants must try to become proficient in Swedish — just as she did when she arrived from Africa aged 12 — rather than alienating locals.

“Language and jobs are the two most crucial things for integration,” she said. “If you want to become a Swedish citizen, we think you should have some basic knowledge of Swedish.”

An elegant, vivacious woman who uses subtle make-up and wears soft clothes in pastel shades and tight woollen sweaters, she argues for a total ban on veils being worn by girls under the age of consent, which is 15 in Sweden.

“Nowhere in the Koran does it state that a child should wear a veil; it stops them being children. By putting a veil on a girl you are immediately saying to the outside world that she is sexually mature and has to be covered. It’s wrong,” she said.

Sabuni was born in Burundi. ...-

More on McGuinty. According to the National Post McGuinty wants the Federal Government i.e. every other taxpayer in the country, to pay for the costs of the Caledonia mess. How cute. He sits on his hands, ignoring court injunctions, allowing criminals to run wild so he can look "tolerant" and Liberal and then he wants the taxpayers of every other province to pay for the resulting chaos so he can look good to Ontario voters. I say we just offer to pay for a spine transplant.

When will the media get it, their spiin is not working. Every poll shows at least 60% favor Harper's position. Would that mean he would get 60% of the vote in an election. After the last debate, and Que wanting to be a nation, and all leaders supporting it except Dion, it wouldn't surprise me. Especially if he promised a canada wide referendum on Que-keep it or kick it out.
Kicking it out would win. As Sheila Copps says, that dog don't hunt anymore. Never mind needing a passport or ID card to get into the US, Que will need these to get into Canada. So long, it has not been nice to know you.

I would not put too much faith in internet polls if I were you, since they are often hijacked and are certainly not random. When you encourage people who think like you to go to the site and vote then you are skewing the results. They do that all the time on the Oilers board too by encouraging the Oilers fans to vote for their team. It does not mean much.

The whole MacKay fiasco was made worse when MacKay denied saying anything. Why doesn't he just take responsibility? Enough people have said they heard it, and it was on the tape. Instead, he waited to find out if it was on the record, and when it did not make it to the record, denied it by saying it was not on the record (not quite the same thing as denying he said it). Whether or not it is a big deal (and I think the conservatives should be worried considering the recent drop in support from women), lying about it makes it worse. If he had just apoligized and blamed it on hurt feelings the story would have died by now.

Oops, sorry - the MacKay comments should have gone on another thread. Please disregard.

Re: Bono's clapping in silence:

In Nov. 2005, when Bono came to Canada, Robert Fife reported on the 11:00 pm news that "a child dies of AIDS every three seconds." Not being too swift with numbers, I took my trusty calculator out & came up with the following:

24 hrs per day X 3600 (number of seconds in 1 hr) = 86 400 seconds per day
86 400 seconds per day divided by 3 seconds (in which 1 child dies) = 28 800 seconds
28 800 seconds per day = 28 800 children that die every day from AIDS in Africa
28 800 dead children per day X 365 days per year = 10 512 000 dead children per year in Africa alone.

Because that last figure was so distressing, I next googled for info and came up with some at a site called earthtrends.wri.org.

There, I found a breakdown for the number of deaths from AIDS (Adults & Children) in all the Sub-Saharan African countries, from Angola to Zimbabwe. Again thanks to my trusty calculator, I discovered that 2 203 590 adults and children died from AIDS in 2003 in that area of the world.

Although it is a very lamentable statistic, it no way approaches the inflated figure Fife and others have alluded to in their reports, to wit: "a child dies every three seconds." If that statement were true, the final figure, which nobody in the CTV newsroom bothered to tally, would be 10 512 000 children alone!

Why am I bothering with this? Simply because I'm tired of rock stars jetsetting around the world on their concert tours to pontificate on how governments should distribute their surpluses, and all the reporters are abuzz, agog & mesmerized by the presence of the Great Bono (whose name IMO stands for Bombastic Orator Notoriously Overbearing). However, do any of those same adulating reporters ever bother to:
1. check the numbers and
2. ASK Bono what percentage of HIS annual income HE gives to "Make Poverty History"?

Compare that to Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, or Ted Turner, just to name some "evil corporate giants," who have & still are steering a good part of their fortunes to helping the poor of this world. Maybe Bono would do well to do less preaching and instead contribute part of the proceeds from his tour to his beloved causes.

This is an open thread, gayle, so your comments are OK here.
My own understanding is that he did not, himself, use the word 'dog'; he reacted to a Liberal who used the word, and MacKay said something to the effect that 'you already have her'. So, he could, legally, deny he used the word!
But, it's trivia; there's no need to apologize.

Did the Liberal apologize for calling Olivia Chow a dog? For calling Deborah Grey a 'slab of pork'? And so on. It's irrelevant.

What is disturbing is the focus, the fury, the froth, that the Liberals and NDP turn on this issue. What about, for example, the Liberals robbing the taxpayer of millions and not paying it back? What about the NDP consorting with terrorists?
Instead - they scream for 'resignations' and apologies' - not about the theft of millions and the bonds with terrorists, but - about school yard name-calling. And we pay them for this?

Annienomous - thank you for an excellent post. It should be reposted on many sites.

"Internet polls aren't random" ?? Absolutely random. Anyone can vote. Once.

Media polls ? Now that is a different story. IMO they are as skewed/biased as anything Pravada ever spun on the Russian peasants.

Has anyone in Canada ever seen raw polling data?? Or a list of those questioned ??

DrD says, "More on McGuinty."

It doesn't have to be much, does it? The guy's a complete phantom.

McGuilty doesn't have the guts to come out in the open and propose that all Canadians pay for his ineptitude in the Caledonia scandal and, to add insult to injury and just like a true Librano, he bogusly spreads the blame, slips out the back door, and hits up every Canadian taxpayer for the bill.

This is the Party that Canada is in danger of re-electing? WHAT IS OUR PROBLEM????????????

I tell ya', though, when all the wheels fall off Canada and all the naysayers and Lib supporters are asking, "How did this happen?," I'm going to loudly say, "I AND A LOT OF OTHER SDA COMMENTERS TOLD YOU THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. IT'S YOUR FAULT, YOU BLIND AND IGNORANT MOONBATS!"

I'm already polishing up my 'Republic of Western Canada' sign for the next election. It would appear that soft-headed stooges, led by an incredibly biased, leftist, media are willing to put the LPC back in charge. Oh, well; Canada gets what it deserves...I just don't want to be part of it. This is f**cking unbelievable.

Just a question: Why is a list of The Blogging Tories sometimes posted at SDA and not at other times?

I kind of rely on it to get onto Steve Janke's site. I can often get in from here, but not by Googling Angry in the Great White North.

Weird.

To Raymond's "This is f**cking unbelievable":

Ditto.

B.Hoax - actually, an internet polls is not really, technically, random. By internet I am presuming you are referring to the polls carried out by various MSM on the internet? The fact that the respondent only votes once is irrelevant; what counts is how that respondent got to vote in that poll.

To be genuinely random, your entire population must have a reasonably equal chance of being polled. That is not the case with these MSM internet polls.
First, you have to actually have a computer; and be on the internet. And, on your own initiative, log into that particular web site. This puts the sampled population already into a non-random sample. The sample population is already skewed into being 'selected' into those who have a computer, are on the internet and, who choose to log into that website.

'Just Googled stevejanke.com and couldn't get onto his site. This happens about 5 times out of ten when I Google AGWN. When I access his site through SDA, I get in 8 times out of ten.

Hmmmm....

been around the block: It is way easier to just add Angry's site to your bookmarks, favorites.
National Newswatch-Ottawa Sun: Bill for settlements, payouts hits $765m over five years. Secret settlement with court orders, property damage injuries and bureaucratic bungling. Geeze, wasn't it the Lib's in pwer during this time? Guess the taxpayer has endless pockets.

Well, Ok, if you want to shell out to improve MqSquinty's image, go ahead. But count me out.
He can damn well pay for his own.

For some reason, NewsMax is showing up in my inbox. Today they had an article on the Muslim TV network in the US. Scary items on it. The muslims in the mid-east are urging their friends and family in the usa to vote Democrat. Their aim, to increase islam from 2% to 50% in the usa. They want sharia law, are urging marterism (sp) and making the usa a muslim country, with islamic law. One of the leading commentators is the CEO of some org and is a white american. There is also a lot of comments on the jewish influence in american politics, because they have more money.
In one state it is mandatory to teach the islam faith, explain ramaden, read the koran etc. But, heaven help this school is they teach the meaning of Christmas, Easter, the bible, or christain prayer. This is all done to increase tolerance. We see what tolerance has done to Canada.
Re the stats on kids death. I have also, on many occassions done the math, re stats on aids, cancer, smoking. Once I called Stats Can to get some figures, re breast cancer deaths and smoking deaths being touted in the media. I discovered that there are a lot of missing bodies in freezers or someplace. The total deaths from these two causes being spouted was 100,000 more than the total deaths in Canada, of all causes and all ages combined in the year being quoted. They told me these numbers are like the kids game where you whisper something in a persons ear, pass it on, and are amazed at what comes out of the last person in the game. When it come out that the women spreading these stats was being paid over 80,000/yr by her charity to tell these lies I quit donating to all of them.

CBC Sunday Morning radio, Michael Enright (fill-in), Oct 22 2006. The first time I have listened to this program in three years. Pathetic. It is so easy to see the spin/bias/slant/lies/ now, in the Internet/blog era. My no-spin summary.

Many Hungarians escape the failed Communist/Socialist countries and come to places like Canada.
The CBC, of couse, finds a couple of University Profs to interview. Why not a couple of citizens who actually walked the walk ??
And of couse the CBC mentions that the West did not "raise a rifle" to help the Hungarians. But if they would have, would todays Media again back the Taliban Jacks of the world ?
Most became good, hard working Canadians. A real sucess story, especially when looking back on the failed course the Eastern Block was on.
A few decades later the Socialist countries inevitably collapse economically. Berlin Wall comes down.
People are freed again. But this time it is different. The Left and the Media (especially Canada's media) are resentfull that Western Democracy and capitalism has triumphed over Socialism. They think the Media and gov'ts are the best controllers. (Like Canada's now defunked Parliamentary Press Gallery)
Many disenchanted Lefties join/infiltrate organiztions like Greenpeace (see Patrick Moore, Greenspirit.com) The Media gives the Radicals/Activists lots of favourable spin. Animousity is prevalent, news stories openly agree it is better to have a corrupt UN impose ideas such as One World Governance over sucessful Western Democracy. Even though it was the West that bailed out the East.
Another Item on the same Sunday Morning show was of the North Korean crisis. The guest said there may be many millions of refugees if the west does not bail out the failed Communist regime. One that is on the verge of deveoping Nukes.
How might it turn out this time, one could ask. Will the Canadian Media try to guilt trip us into the Socialism-is-good, only gov'ts can fix things type of propaganda ?? Welcome the Commies in, do not integrate, and destroy our lifstyle?
One big differce in 2006. The MSM is NOT the only game in town. The Internet and blogs have changed the world forever. Imagine if the Soviet people had computers along with Pravda. They would have seen the real story, just as I, mere Canuck, could see through The CBC's slant/omissions on Oct 22, 2006.

Which is more random ? Votes from thousands, if not millions, of on-liners, left, right or indifferent. .. OR .. a small sample of people, who the pollster decides to call, with their loaded question, selects the answers they want and then publish the data they want, or not even publish certain poll results. If you believe for a moment that MSM polls are not spun we are all in trouble.

At times, such as an impending election, the pollsters have to publish representive results. It "shows" that they are accurate, at that time. (Notice how the polls all of a sudden changed in Dec 2005. I suggest voter intentions had changed a long time before. Pollsters hid those results, trying to influence voters, with back-a-winner tactic. They had to adjust their poll "results", or look stupid) They had no choice. But what about the rest of the year? Before the Internet we could never know. The Silent Majority is now represented in CTV, G&M and other on-line polls. And they do not like it.

Below is sample of the obvious, in-your-face bias, of the MSM/CTV,

aka The Voices-Mouthpieces of the Liberal/NDP Party. ...-

Headline of news report is as follows:

"It's time to restore decorum in Parliament: MPs..." (ctv.ca)

Then, CTV turns the above headline into this:

"A Decima Research poll released this week show "Tory support is slipping among Canadian women, with the Liberals pulling ahead despite their leaderless status.

The poll suggests 34 per cent of female voters support the Liberals, while 28 per cent support the Tories, and 16 per cent support the NDP.

Critics have suggested MacKay's alleged comments will further hurt women's faith in the Conservative party." (ctv.ca) ...-

Dr. SS Goebbels would be proud of the MSM/CTV.
