Interesting concept on the MSM time vs. blog time.

Podhoretz says the MSM relies on polling and is therefore behind the times, but then goes and points out how bloggers are more current because they pick up on the trees instead of the forest, noting the details and the subtle shifts that precede the bigger shifts recognized in time-delayed polling.

Even if that is true, the problem with the article is that Podhoretz tries to prove his point by noting that bloggers are basing their views in large part... on polls, polls which are reported in... the MSM.

And his one example of non-polling change is to say that Ford is showing desparation now. I don't know anything about the Republican and Democrat senatorial candidates, but Podhoretz shows a classic MSM arrogance in simply stating that Ford is showing desperation, implying he has seen the indisputable evidence leading to this conclusion that we must all accept without giving us this evidence so we can judge for ourselves. Classic MSM reporting.

Somewhat ironic that he calls Ford desperate when Republican Senate candidate Bob Corker has put up an ad that makes the worst of the Liberal and Conservative nastiness in the last Canadian election look like playschool, including a bizarre slam on Canada: http://canadiancerberus.blogspot.com/2006/10/republican-ad-smears-canada.html.

Podhoretz may be right about blog-time but he hasn't proven it in this article which makes the article seem more like classic partisan MSM spinmaking than new age reporting.

In today’s TorStar papers, coverage is given to the frustration in the Ontario Legislature where the (Liberal) Speaker is accused of failure to rein in insults hurled by Liberals while punishing only the opposition members.

In defense of all members, Premier McGuinty offers the following:

"But Premier Dalton McGuinty, who effectively anointed both Curling and Brown, has no plans to either rein in his more vociferous cabinet ministers or replace the Speaker.

"People are hurling words at each other — not stones or worse. So it's a great system," McGuinty said.

"Sometimes we can become overly enthusiastic, but I wouldn't exchange it for any other," the premier added.

(Source: Toronto Star, “War of Words Erupts over Speaker”, Oct. 24/06)

Can I suggest that Premier McGuinty pass those comments over to his brother, Federal MP David McGuinty, who was the origin of the “dog” reference last week? Dare we suggest that the Premier has a better grasp on the reality of parliamentary theatre than his offended brother?

The Sherwood Community Ass'n (RM of Sherwood) These two combined don't mix, The Ass'n (drop the 'n) is another "activist", against everything, left wing, we know better, group of moonbats that have worked for three years to destroy the elected council, they did get a couple of their clowns elected last term. One of whom (Wallyboy) is running for reive this election.

Hey, Larry - I report, you decide!

;-)

Is the Brown Dalton appointed related to the D.Brown who posts here.
How will Que react to all the job losses announced today. Could it be corporations are afraid of Iggy and his plan to make Que a nation, and they are getting out while they can.
How many millions does Bombardier owe Canada. With their gravy train gone, maybe Harper is calling in the loans.

Another Belinda rumour: An organizer of Martha Hall Findley's Liberal leadership campaign was asked if Martha was going to run in the London by-election. The answer was that Martha has been quietly promised to be the Liberal candidate in the next general election in Belinda's Aurora/Newmarket riding, where Martha lives and where she, herself was sked to step aside as the Liberal candidate for Belinda after the floor crossing. The backroom story lines about Belinda not running again are being developed. They range from Belinda's health, to family concerns with her children or a combination to tug at the heart strings and seem believable. She will most likely even have to shed a few tears on camera and all of that and her Daddy will have the appropriate people enhance the story.

However, the true story is that Belinda wants to travel around the world with Bill Clinton's poverty/Aids charity money giveaway being the Mother Teresa of charity- going to give the poor African women wool for their knitting?

Very very interesting huh?

poor African women wool for their knitting?

Maybe she can adopt a child, too.

Funny how the media rushes to publish race info that portrays whitey getting a leg up on blacks. See Katrina story below:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061024/ap_on_re_us/katrina_insurance_2

Yet the media goes out of its way to suppress reports on race stats that may portray minorities in an unfavourable light (e.g. crime stats)

Big press conferences on the Hill today re SSM. Wouldn't it be great if all those supporting this had to declare if they are gay or lesbian or in a SS relationship. Due to all the gay lobbying in the past few years, and watching them on TV, I now feel capable of deciding who is or isn't gay. I am probably wrong in a few cases, but they speak in squeaky voices, body language is feminine, bad hair styles, etc. The women are usually fat and ugly and also have bad hair styles. Don't blame me for these conclusions, they have done it to themselves. Glad I wont be here in about 20 years, when the govt is sued by the children of these unions for the abuse they went thru, the discrimination they went thru, or the reason their SS parents lifestyle led them to a life of crime. For those that don't believe this, go back and research all the articles etc warning of the dangers of tolerance, multiculturalism, abortion, making homosexuality legal, and all the rest of the crap PET shoved down our throat.

MSM time requires a week or more of stories to be circulated which support a particualar bias ( theirs ) before the poll is conducted to support the position they are promoting.

Blog time ... requires only the posting of an opinion or report to begin an immediate accumulation of responses.
Bloggers don't have the luxury of a captive audience to prep for the programmed response.

Thanks Kate for the exposure. Larry's comment shows the mentality of people we are dealing with; bullying, name calling and dare I say (he can't spell reeve) iliterate.
We've upset their rural applecart and they sure don't like it, but like any schoolyard bully can only respond with taunts.

oops illiterate! jokes on Me

So why is it a surprise that CDC got taken in by one of the oldest technical scams around? After all, this is an agency of a former government that got sucked in by the Kyoto scam and a current government that continues to pay lip service to the specious "science" of anthropogenic climate change. BTW, where were all those killer hurricanes that the Chicken Littles were predicting this summer because of global warming. I wonder if Ms Ambrose could comment on that one. With her deep understanding of science and technology, it wouldn't surprise me if she has a gas-saver device on her car.

David Warren has a very interestinng column on the Muslim leaderships's response to the Pope's recent comments.

A tip you're no doubt already working on is the NDP's waiting list shrinking by only about 5 weeks in the last year [at best]. At that rate, the Conservatives will have a Green Plan in place before we have acceptable wait times for surgeries.

Bombardier cutting 1,330 jobs

about half of them at the company's three Montreal-area plants.

Gaza fishermen risk Israeli fire

For more than three months the Israelis have ordered all fishing craft to stay in port.
...
The fishermen though have no doubt that this is an example of what a UN human rights observer recently described as "collective punishment" in the territory.
...
Tens of thousands of Gazans depend on fishing, and - as their desperation has mounted - some have been putting out to sea regardless of the ban.
...
But there is always the danger that the gunboats will move in.

And Mr Habeel says that is what happened last week when he and his crewmates were fishing off the town of Dier Ballah.

He says a gunboat steamed up from the south. According to Mr Habeel, it did not issue any verbal warning, but opened fire first at the cables holding the nets - cutting them adrift. Then he says the Israelis circled the unarmed fishermen spraying their craft with machine gun fire from no more than 20m away.
...
The Israelis say that on the day in question boats had been pushing too far out to sea. On a number of occasions warning shots were fired.

"We did not identify in any situation any of our warning shots hitting a boat - at all," said a military spokeswoman. "So we are not aware of any fisherman being hit."

But later, as the trawler lays beached for repairs in Gaza City harbour, well over 100 bullet holes are clearly visible.

CFP Slams CTV Over 'Puppygate' Obsession

http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2006/10/cfp-slams-ctv-over-puppygate-obsession.html

Guess what, folks? There is no proof that MacKay uttered the alleged word/words. All there is is a Liberal-provided audiotape. Who can make out what was said? Is the tape genuine, or tampered with? Is it a fake? Are the Liberals lying?

Why not give the tape to the RCMP for forensic analysis/proof? How do we know it's for real?

MacKay said he didn't say it. The left and the MSM say he did. But how do they know?

Whatever happened to the doctrine that everyone's innocent until proven guilty? The Islamic jihadists get this benefit of the doubt from the very folks who refuse to grant it to Mr. MacKay!

Let's accuse the Liebrano$$$ of offering a fake tape! Demand they prove they didn't make it up!

the MSM continues with the dog stuff because they have nothing of substance anymore. Like radio replaced telegraph , and TV replaced radio, all of the MSM devices are now passe.
The MSM is in such disarray because they now have a thousand bloggers checking their every fact and they have no ability to run amok anymore. The reality of the system now is that before when you knew the MSM was making something up , you shared it with a couple of friends, now you share it with the world. The MSM is reeling.

They will soon find that their new annointed one Iggy will be like John Kerry, a hairdo with a mouth, style without substance. In fact, I find the resemblance uncanny and unnerving. Like Kerry , Iggy can be on any side anytime.

Looks like their rioting in France again or still, it's your guess.

Gomery inquiry lawyer : More criminal charges likely. (canoe news)

MONTREAL (CP) - Five people connected to the sponsorship scandal are likely to face criminal charges, says the lawyer who was chief counsel for the Gomery commission.

Bernard Roy, who questioned witnesses at Justice John Gomery's probe into the federal sponsorship program, said Tuesday that plenty of evidence came out at the inquiry to justify the charges. ...-

Nothing of substance pretty much sums up the current MSM.
All the tools in the world to get information and yet these tits still think they can BS their way through each and every day.

They are all "Ted Baxters" Now.

I bought a gas saving gadget for my old 93 taurus.

it consisted of a stainless steel short tube affair with fins that went into the air intake just before the injectors. it caused a vortex effect as shown by the smoke injected into the air in the demo on the commercial. it was sold as an aid to the better mixing of the air/gas vapours.

a vortex will do this; I dont know what effect it had on the mileage. I wish the f SOMEONE 'out there' could perform the preferable 3rd party analysis and evaluation of these gadgets to give us the numbers.

it cost my about 100 bucks and was so easy to install the mechanic didnt charge me anything.

qwerty....

Vortex in the intake is a detriment to airflow.
Vortex slows down the airflow and thus makes the intake less efficient.

In carb systems mixture is determined by the carberator design. In Fuel Injection systems (port) by the intake manifold and the injector controls.
Any gearhead who knows the first thing about induction systems knows that upgrades to induction involve removing obstructions and designing out turbulence in the intake airstream.

Hence performance accessories that work include things like: larger/stiffer/straighter/smoother intake tubes throttle bodies and manifolds....things that take real engineering to make right and cost $$$.

Soldier's poem to Jack! bin Layton over at Daimnation:

http://www.damianpenny.com/archived/007959.html

Dear Jack Layton,

You sit there in your quiet home, no fear is in your heart,

You sleep soundly certain that it won't be blown apart.

Your children they can go to school and play out in the park,

They've never seen a bomb explode, heard air raids in the dark.

They've never seen dead bodies piled up on the street,

Your wife, she won't be beaten, treated like a piece of meat.

You are free to form opinions, read any news print you can see,

You enjoy your rights and privileges in this country wide and free.

The reason you can live like that is because I fight your wars,

I fight and push the enemy back, I keep them off our shores.

France accused on Rwanda killings

Some 800,000 people were killed in 100 days

A former senior Rwandan diplomat has told a tribunal that France played an active role in Rwanda's 1994 genocide.

Former Rwandan ambassador to Paris Jacques Bihozagara said French involvement stemmed from concerns about its diminishing influence in Africa.

France has denied playing any role in the 100-day frenzy of killing in which 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus died.

After the hearings, the Rwandan panel will rule on whether to file a suit at the International Court of Justice. ...-

-From A Few Good Men
"Jessep: Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You?!

....And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives! You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall! You need me on that wall!

.....We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said, "Thank you," and went on your way."

battling predictions, the msm can't see the forest for the trees...it baffles people who can't see the trees

Jack Layton's wet dream is coming true in Afghanistan - you think he'd focus on that and not 'puppy-gate'. How bloody shallow. Not a word of it in any of the canadian press I've seen either.

The British have surrendered in Musa Qala - er negotiated a withdrawl & are in the process of negotiating a withdrawl from Sangeen/Sangin and unnamed other places.

The Taliban of course are claiming victory and threatening death to the infidel if they ever return to those towns.

How much Canadian blood was shed to secure those towns? What king of ally is Britain that it can turn over that territory to the Taliban? What's going to happen when the British turn over command of the mission to the famously brave Dutch later this month? We all know how what kind of courage they've shown in the face of Islamist terror (think about the recently exiled Hirsi Ali).

If this is a NATO mission you'd think we'd get some kind of say in something like this. If we didn't - why not? If we did - then who gave the go-ahead to talk with the Taliban?

Maz . . already pointed to this and I think it deserves attention. Librano$ seem to serve only 1/6th of their prison sentence.

Is that because the MSM IS LOOKING THE OTHER WAY? This is in a little Halifax paper. I hope the paper wins an award.

http://thechronicleherald.ca/Search/536279.html

Brault, former president of the Groupaction Marketing, was sentenced to 30 months in prison in May for fraud. He was granted parole after serving only five months of his sentence.

MONTREAL — New criminal charges resulting from a police investigation into the federal sponsorship scandal could soon be laid against admen Jean Brault and Jean Lafleur, Radio-Canada reported Monday.

Canadians who hold a second citizenship from a country considered a security risk by the United States cannot apply for some jobs at Montreal-based CAE Inc., a multinational company that produces flight simulators.

The company's job postings state that a number of positions are restricted to people who comply with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, which prevent dual citizens from 17 countries, including China, Cuba, Syria and Lebanon, from working on U.S. military contracts.

Saint-Pierre and Miquelon (France)

Collectivité territoriale de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon

In 1977, Canada increased its jurisdiction to 200 nautic miles. Saint-Pierre did the same but a dispute started because of the proximity of Newfoundland. The crisis grew more acrimonious when Canada decided to avoid overfishing. In 1987, the French trawlers were no longer allowed to call at the Canadian ports. The islanders started the "Codfish Crusade" and fished into forbidden areas. The French trawlers were inspected, fishers and elected members were jailed in Canada. In 1994, France and Canada signed an agreement that suppressed the industrial fishing in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon.

Spending, not sloth, ails Quebec

....Or take booking off sick, known to Statscan as "days lost." Quebec has the worst record of any province. Quebec workers lose 11.2 days a year, Ontario workers 8.6 days, the lowest level (along with Alberta and Prince Edward Island) in the country. But do lost days measure workers' laziness or management's incentives? Why is it that, across the entire country, public sector workers book off much more often than private sector workers? And the frequency continues to increase. Five years ago, public sector workers took 10.2 days off a year; now they take 12.2 days. Five years ago, health care workers booked off 12.8 days a year; now they book off 14.2 days. In contrast, professional and managerial workers last year took only 5.3 days...

also from CBCpravda. shows those dirty hardworkers in Alberta should be supporting duffism in PEI. duffism is sitting on your duff, and in PEI if means sitting and eating. Its not a culture of defeat , its a culture of de dole.

By province, Alberta has by far the hardest workers, with a per capita GDP of $54,000. Ontario comes second, with a per capita GDP of $40,000. Prince Edward Island comes in last with a per capita GDP of $28,000.

But Prince Edward Island has better lobsters than Alberta, with more time to enjoy them.
