One of the reasons that the MSM are shuddering in their boots is because of people like Becky Cole and the internet's ability through people like you Kate to get her message out. Oz gets Becky and we have Belinda, Jack, Iggy, Bobby, Scott, Stephan.....! Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Yeah! Great song! And where are the Canadian artists? Our troops are fighting a tougher fight and taking many more casualties than the Aussies. Like the title of Mark Steyn's latest in the Western Standard - "Digger Troops, Nancy-boy Nation".

Waaaaaaait a second. As an aussie I should point out that the title should not be :
"Digger Troops, Nancy-boy Nation".
but rather,
"TOUGH TROOPS, NANCY NATION"
A "digger" is the slang for an aussie soldier.
Mark Steyn was certainly calling Canadians(not australians) "nancies", as the incorrect title implies.

Agreed, your title is better (and its the one Steyn uses on his website). The one I quoted is the title in the print version of the Western Standard. Anyway, diggers can take it as a complement - being compared to tough Canadian troops.

That was inspired and inspiring. Reminds me why I always like Aussies -- big hearts and able to roll up their sleeves to get the job done with a big Aussie grin on their faces. It gives one hope to know there are true artists out there who "get it".

I can't speak for anyone else, but check out Julian Austins "Red and White. A great tribute to our soldiers defending our freedoms in Afghanistan. It is a very emotional song and very patriotic.......how unCanadian!

Wow! Great song - even greater person. I got a little emotional. Very powerful. I wish some of our Canadian artists would do more of this kind of stuff.

I for one am certain that Kate,even tho a Canadian artist,never received a Canada Council grant of any kind or any other grant.She did receive a prize for designing a medal for the Canada games when they were in Brandon when she was a student at Assiniboin Community college.

Canadian artists are nearly all dippers ... at least the ones who can get enough money from government to produce a video ... of course!

Especially the Bare Naked Ladies who are beak-first into Jack bin Laytons trousers. As I see it, they are "state musician" as Rick Mercer is a "State Comedian".

Don't hold your breath waiting for a Canadian artist to come out in support of anything but Trudeaupean values. You know ... the ones that took away our national pride, meaning and identity.

We did have an identity once, but lost it. Now we spend all our time trying find it.

An identity is something you earn, you don't just create it or stumble across one day.

Nothing good comes easy.

Aussies know that and the steetheart in the video is ready to toss a chunk of her fan base to stand up for what is right, not politically correct. Good on her and good on Australia.

So our death rate in the current conflict is very roughly 1/240,000 of the rate in WWII, and almost 1/500,000 of the rate in WWI. Have we become so rich and complacent that this *miniscule* death rate is unacceptable to us? Is the goal of installing democracy in a country where women were denied education, equality, and employment so worthless it's not worth one millionth of our people? I'd like to see someone challenging the anti-war brigade with these numbers. What do all the Quebec women who disagree with the war think of the status of Afghani women? What do all the feminazis decrying the decreased funding to their special interest groups think of Afghani women? What do all the other anti-war groups think of a war that has cost fewer soldiers' lives in four years than die in traffic accidents in Canada in *ONE WEEK* think of Afghani women? They should be challenged on this: do they think the lives of Afghani women are so worthless, they are not worth this price? And if they're not, then why should we listen to any of these people about anything else, since clearly their goals and values are selfish above all?

This country used to have a national morale that was able to stand up and deliver when freedom and democracy demanded it. Thanks in no small part to Pierre Trudeau, we know have a country that finds it hard to stomach the slightest discomfort. It galls me that our media and "elites" have so little respect for our country and its history that they cry crocodile tears over our current sacrifices.

This is in no way intended to disparage the soldiers that died, the pain it caused their families, or the importance of their sacrifice. I honour every soldier, living or dead, male or female, who has the character to take up this task. But statistically, our armed forces are hundreds of thousands times safer in this conflict than in the others cited. I think the current concern about "how many more?" defiles the memory of those thousands who gave their lives before.

Not my type of music (but I can agree with her sentiments).

One Canadian band that has written a song supporting Canadian troops in Afghanistan is Unit731 a Kamloops based band (and probably not much known out of Kamloops and the Alberta bars they play in). This song hasn't made it to their website yet, but hopefully soon. (http://unit731.ca/).

Having a son and grandchildren in OZ I feel after 60 plus years more attachment to Oz than I do to this Country. pierre the pig/frog turned a once proud and industrious Nation into a whimpering whining welfare state sans morals. I haven't considered myself a Canadian for years hence the moniker Western Canadian. I find it intolerant living in a Country with no guts, balls or tits and thank myself I have the means to leave whenever I please, which I do frequently. One of the few things I still respect here and support are our guys in the service, good on you all, go PPCLI, and come home safely.

WC the order right now is RCR, Vandoo's & then RNR. The PPCLI just finished their year in the sand box, now it's someone elses turn.

Thank you Kate, very nice of Beccy to stand up for what she believes in. Hope that our artists will stand for what they believe in; right or wrong, it is thier opinion. I wish our soldiers the best and hope they get out alive. This is not a world war, its a peace keeping mission and there is going to be a lot of should we or shouldn't we be there. Even we in the west have different opinions about being there, but as long as we got troops there think that every Canadian offer there upmost support for them. They are just doing a job that was direced by the elected people in parliment, to the best of there ability. Canadians has watched for years as the funding was took away from the military and put into social programs. Now that we may have a goverment that may be for the ordinary folks of Canada. Meaning that people who can think for themselves and make living for there families, that was never asking for handouts. We are the minority so far, but I see that we are growing every day. Mabey PMSH has a chance to win a majority goverment, hoping that in eight years that the Librils and NDP have 20 seats each, then maybe the will, wake up and smell the coffee.
