Stephane Dion in 2004 (paraphrased):
Keeping tracks of bad chemicals is important. Really it is. And you chemical producers have a great program for doing it. The key idea in your program is to be responsible over the whole life-cycle. A lot of other people are impressed with it, and it's been making a real difference for over 10 years now. Congratulations to you.
Stephane Dion in 2006 (paraphrased):
Keeping tracks of bad chemicals is important. Really it is. Today I'm proposing a great program for doing it. The key idea my program is that chemical producers have to be responsible over the whole life-cycle. A lot of people are going to be impressed with my idea and I'm going to make a real difference starting when I'm prime minister. Congratulations to me.
No kidding. Not only is he touting a plan that sounds suspiciously like the same plan for which he heaped so much praised on to the Canadian Chemical Producers Association two years ago, he actually uses the same paragraph to kick off both speeches -- then he veers off in two entirely different directions.
Check out the two speeches and see for yourself.
If he didn't rip off his own speeches, I might never have spotted it.
Update: The CCPA is not entirely pleased.

Big deal, its his own speech this time at least.
Stephane Dion is a distant 4th in the leadership race and highly unlikely to make it past the 1st ballot. You can't plagiarize if you're the original author...besides it shows consistency!
Janke, how about a topic on CPC snubbing and muzzling. More specifically why that chicken shit Stockwell Day can't even look RCMP Commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli in the eye during an official ceremony in Ottawa yesterday.
I miss Kate.
You're missing the point. In his old speech he praises the CCPA for promoting full life-cycle responsibility, an idea that has had concrete results. Now he says he'll make it happen, and gives no mention or credit to the CCPA, whom he held out to be heroes two years ago.
maybe he can track it on that great Al Gore invention the internet.
"Big deal, its his own speech this time at least ". .
You have missed the point . . in the first speech he is congratulating the group for the program THEY initiated.
Now he is saying he will force them to do what they already do, trying to sound like Mr. Environment.
Dion, Volpe,Hotcross Heddy(now ex contender),Brison, (Iggy too): This is the best of the bottom of the barrel within the Liberal party. With "depth" like this, we really understand why the Liberal party are a bunch of lying cheat thiefs! I do not believe that Rae is the saviour either!
"Congratulations to me". For what, ripping others off?
I don't think English Canada will stand for another French guy who can't speak English. I thought you had to be able to speak both languages in order to compete?
"Snubbing and muzzling..." Right DB. The report takes several months to complete and according to goons like you, the government is supposed to react pronto. What you fail to understand (again), is the knee jerk turkey dance is a patently Liberal manouver. Responsible governments don't do that.
Oh, and isn't this whole Arar affair, including the appointment of Zaccardelli, another mess created by, and left over from the former government?
I'm sure Kate doesn't miss you.
Interesting spin. But, anyways, the race is over. It WAS Rae all along, it IS NOW Rae(recent poll) and it WILL BE be Rae. Why ? For the same reason it was Trudeau, Mulroney, Chretien, Martin. A powerful, powerful group in Canada has been calling the Liberal shots for the past half century. Power Corp, Desmarais, Maurice Strong and all.
There biggest tool ? (no pun intended) The Media. and $$$$$ Hence the big fight with the outsider, Stephen Harper.
Remember when Paul Martin was sworn in ? Who, seemingly out of the blue, was at the cerimony with an emotional tear in his eye ? Strong. Life long mentor. A very powerful man.
Rae all the way. Just ask his Uncle MO. Even better, just ask Warren Kinsella.com
I'm enjoying the show.
It's nice that the tables have finally turned and the Liberals are totally screwed as far as the eye can see.
Hee-hee-hee! :p
Playgerising yourself? yup. In university it is illegal to use work you did in one class as a hand in in another. (unless properly referenced...oi)
What I don't understand is how anyone can morally support the liberals anymore.
Whos running?
1. An academic that plagerises others
2. 3 guys who violated a confidentiality agreement to have an outside firm use the liberal lists in a poll.
3. A guy (now 2 this morning) who sign up people to the party in contravention to party rules. (even dead people)
4. A guy who went around fundraising rules by getting children of donators to donate. (But its ok because its really a smear campaign against him is purely racisim because he is Italian)
5. and on and on..
A senate that is delaying a bill that would limit fundraising further (and then they claim the end of the world that Harper might have been over by almost $300 a couple years ago)
Then there is the dozens of MP's who didn't show up for a foreign dignitary to speak on how we are helping his contry (the mission they started) because the leadership races is important to them.
--
Why is there any doubt that the liberal party cares only about themselves and their fortunes. When am I going to see them put the fate of Canada above the fate of the Liberal party? If they can't why should I consider voting for them?
B. HOAX AWARE. I agree and don't understand why the MSM is s#*t scared to cover it. I belive Rae's brother is a wheel in power corp.
Irwin,
Responsible governments communicate. Not being able to look someone in the eye is the act of a coward, it's also an indication of guilt.
If you're going to clean up a mess then do it like a man. Stockwell's actions speak volumes as to how child-like he and his party really are.
I don't give a hoot if Kate misses me, I miss her...that's it.
you didn't read the news this morning-week-month??
-Harper is creating enemies
http://www.thehilltimes.ca/html/index.php?display=story&full_path=/2006/september/25/media/&c=1
-Harper isn't acting fast enough on the border guards getting guns
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2006/09/25/guards-return.html
-Harper han't made a personal apology to Mr. Arar yet
(CTV Question Period, Sunday Sept 24)
-Harper is muzzeling the RCMP commissioner
Harper is the evil incarnate (even worse than Bush because he supports some of Bush's policys by choice). lmao
If the MSM were to support Harper (or blow up the liberal leadership campaign into the mainstream) then they would be stuck with him.
(The end of the world)
After watching the Liberals and the NDP for the past few years I am not sure Harper could lose my vote if he declared war on the entire western world started stealing and launching nukes at random civilian targets and conscripted every man, woman and child to fight in his army. Even that is not as bad as the current Liberal/NDP option.
"Why is the media S**T Scared" to cover the Rae, Power Corp, Liberal "thing" ??
BECAUSE THEY OWN THE MEDIA IN CANADA !!
Also, with their $$ BILLION $$ per year subsidy, the CBC has the resources to call the shots. Other media outlets follow. It is inevitable that some day this whole corrupt power-grab will fall like a house of cards.
This Liberal leadership thing seems to be taking the same track as the Martin one. Install the best usefull idiot.
"...an indication of guilt."
It seems you have the inside scoop. Please enlighten me as to how the Conservatives in general, and Stockwell in particular, caused the whole Arar affair, would you?
""...how child-like he and his party really are."
As opposed to Criminals? Traitors? Liars? Thieves? Hypocrites? Cowards?
The Liberals and NDP already have trademarks on those words, so I guess you might be right, the brain-dead left will have to do with 'child-like' in their description of the Conservatives.
The scarry thing is that people in Toronto will still vote for these crooks. After all the US bashing, they still wonder why american tourism is down. Watch for an influx of bad people coming thru BC, as all they have to do is call ahead and say we have a gun and our chicken guards will walk off the job and say, come on in. Every one of them should be ashamed. Who can fire them.
Irwin,
The CPC did not cause the Arar affair. They were elected with the understanding that they would be cleaning up the mess.
It's a dirty job and they will get dirty doing it.
It's the classless cowardly manner in which they are going about it that I find revealing.
Message from Kyoto Dion, CO2 Rae, and his Uncle Mo (Strong).
Ridicule the left: gore Gore and Wily Willy at the same/sane time.
Do it in angerrrrrrrr. ...-

"I don't think English Canada will stand for another French guy who can't speak English. I thought you had to be able to speak both languages in order to compete?"
Jean Chretien, incomprehensible in either official language.
B.Hoax is right, Paul Desmarais chooses the Liberal leader, and I think it's going to be Rae also. He's the least objectionable, although I believe his term as Premier of Ontario was less than auspicious.
The past will be glossed over , and Rae will come out looking like the "fresh face" Canada's needed all along. And he ain't George W. Bush's lapdog, like the MSM assures us Harper is.
Brace yourselves for an interesting spin on Rae, esp. by the CBC, "Ride the Rae Express, to a new Canada!"
Kind of reminds me of TED TURNER who comapares himself to some of world histories greatest movers and shakers when all he is is a egotistical blabber mouth and complete idiot once married to HANOI JANE and big time eco-freak who mines, logs and hunts his own property and the creator of that leftist eco-freak program CAPTIAN PLANET
To attack Dion on this chemicals business is really a stretch. It is commonplace that industry will go a little way in classification and signage or coding for shipping, then lose interest beyond that while still claiming credit for a voluntary program. Government will try to persuade ever so gently, then consult more forcefully, and finally stomp around with the big boots of law and regulation.
For a long time industry in chemicals has been sitting on its large rear end congratulating itself in this area, with less and less justification. Now we see Dion announce that he will go the next step. Finally, we can see some progress in the safer handling of hazardous materials by a little compulsion where smothering industry with praise has not produced much result. Anyone who lives near a railroad track should welcome Dion's proposal, and who in Alberta does not live near a railroad track except those that wish they did. Now they can joiln the Liberal party and champion Dion. Isn't that grand?
