Adler on the anniversary of 9-11
Via The Corner;
The killing of the crusading deputy chairman [Andrei Kozlov] of Russia's central bank is a clear signal that the criminal element which still has a presence in the Russian economy is not going to give up without a fight. Like Paul Klebnikov's murder—also because he, as a journalist, was hot on the trail of a number of shady dealings—this was, in my opinion, a "demonstration" killing—interfere too much in our affairs, and pay the price—and by the way, we can still subvert Putin's efforts to impose law and order from time to time.[...]
What remains to be seen is whether, like the Beslan attacks, the murder of Kozlov is used by Putin as the basis for further centralization of power—but the murder is also a reminder that all the best written plans for law and order are useless if you can subvert the personnel who are expected to carry them out.

"Thank you. I spent three delirious weeks with Kimveer, who is a Quebecer whose PARENTS (subtle note with the reticent people to integrate the "immigrants of second generation" *) originate in India. We joyously jumped a collective lead to protect us from the oppressive work environment imposed by our temporary colleagues in this marvellous company which manufactures luxury floors.
By leaving the company, I did not even recover one of the gigantic boards intended for the rejects (which are splendid and which couteraient you a tenth of your wages the unit) so much I was in a hurry to leave. Especially for you Kim: (hey, could you get me one of these gigantic boards we moved the other night before leaving?) * An immigrant of second generation is a person who was born in a country but from which the parents were born elsewhere. Of or education and culture of the child generally different (to differing degree) from that of people of the country whose geneology goes up to Noah. Numbers these children are bilingual, certain (as me) are unilingual language of the country where they were born.
But certain reducing heads want to qualify them immigrants (immigrant from where, belly of our mothers?) rather than of citizen of the country, which makes it possible to take a step in direction of - why not, in the best of the cases - expulsion the day or the country votes laws which make it possible to return the immigrants of the country. In the case of Kimveer, although it always lived in Montreal and that all its culture is Quebec (english-speaking, detail ô how much important), that would make it possible to say that it is hindu of second generation. And to treat it as such if a racist government were born. A choice of words fuller of consequences than it does not appear to with it, and which underlines weaknesses of the process of integration (go, say of the two edges, the country and the immigrants).

If I could come back to something Ted said last night.....
"I've never actually seen a commentator on the right, on this blog anyway, admit that could be ANY reason for not supporting the war in Iraq, other than loving the terrorists."
My question would be....are there any -valid- reasons for not supporting the war?
Yes, there would be less American military deaths, but what other positives would there be?
Would Saddam still be in power? If not who? Would UN sanctions still be enforced? If not, what? Open civil war? Any efforts to becoming a democracy? Effects on surrounding countries?
If there are valid reasons for not supporting the war, please tell me. What are the positive benefits?
Would Saddam still be in power? YES, Saddam secured his power by operating a brutal regime that killed tens of thousands of Iraquis every year, that filled mass graves with innocent Iraquis (upwards of 800,000 bodies have been found so far) and terrorized his nation with an out of control secret police force that would make Stalin proud.
If not who? Not applicable. Saddam was the boy.
Would UN sanctions still be enforced? Sanctions were NOT enforced. Saddam bribed complaint ass kissing Europeans - mostly French and corrupted the UN - starting with Koffi's office and working down. Remember the UN Oil for Food scam aka the Oil for Palaces & Weapons scam ??
If not, what? Open civil war? NEVER - Saddam and his terrorizing police and Republican Guard would have stamped out any uprisings by murdering hundreds of thousands of opponents without a flicker of worry or guilt - just likehe did after GW 1 when he put down the Marsh Arab rebellion.
Any efforts to becoming a democracy? NEVER Iraq & Sadddam are 100% total dictatorship. Saying or even thinking Saddam would let democracy flourish is as stupid as thinking Castro would allow democracy in Cuba.
Effects on surrounding countries? No Change . . Saddam was the most feared wild card whackjob maniac in the entire region . . . Iran now holds that title.
If there are valid reasons for not supporting the war, please tell me. YES - the Americans have made numerous errors in the campaign.
What are the positive benefits? A nascent democracy in Iraq, slowly growing, taking root, providing freedom, saving the lives of tens of thousnads of Iraquis that Saddam would have brutally tortured and murdered if he had been left in power.
Having a democracy, any form of democracy and freedom in that region is a major step forward for the backward, stagnant nations and regimes that pratise repressive political pathologies under the guise of religion.
The other positive benefit of not supporting the war is that you would be considered a 'troll' at SDA. You would then be banished to the back 'pew' of the church of SDA. This in itself has its rewards.
A) You now have a birdseye view of the backs of the faithful. You can see them clearly but they have to make an effort to turn around and see you.
B) You are now free to think for yourself.
C) You are free to verbalize those thoughts because you're not part of the 'in' crowd and don't require their approval.
D) Best of all, you've emancipated yourself from the mental slavery of crowd mentality.
BTW...I support the war for my own personal reasons and don't give a rat's ass if other people do or don't.

Hip hop isn't music, it's just animals jumping up and down, like monkeys. Why don't the men respect the women, why are the men always calling the women "biatches" and "hos"?, but more importantly, why do these women like to be talked to like this, and treated like this?
Someone actually told me Snoop Doggy Dog is a poet. Can you believe that. A poet? You see...you see...people actually believe this. Animals...just animals. Have you seen some of their videos that play 24/7 on all the music channels worldwide? It's all image. all the girls are acting like whores, sorry, let me rephrase that...all the girls are whores. I can't understand what has happened to this world.
They keep refering to each other as attractive and successful African-Americans or nubianhs, they're all black, yet they keep saying the "N" word to each other? Does this mean that they understand that they are in fact inferior nubianhs? They should stop, and be more gentlemanly and civilized. In one video some rapped is trying to have sex with a car, while eatting fried chicken. WTF!!!

..."If Israel was the loser in Lebanon, why is Nasrallah still living in Undisclosed Locationland?"
Israel lost the propaganda and public opinion battle over Lebanon.
The cowardice of the Lebanese government and general population allowed the criminal thugs of Hezbollah to retain their presence and most of their assets in the country.
The limited military success of the Israelis is confined to the destruction of some of the Hezbollah assets and infrastructure.
I'd say that is pretty well a dead loss for the Israelis!
Unless you consider that only a battle or phase in the conflict! Since Israel is NOT going away and not going to forget about the Hezbothugs expect more to come. Whether the next engagement is a new "war" or just a continuation that goes back to the Palestinians in Lebanon attacking Israel over that border.
Nasrallah may even by killed in the near future but that will not end the "WAR" so until the forces of Hezbollah are nuetralized the war has no winners.

Here’s a story my dad once told me. The Van Doos were in Halifax waiting to ship out for Europe in WW2 but they were having such a good time they didn’t want to leave (bars and gals n’ stuff). They decided amongst themselves that they weren’t quite ready yet so they tossed all their weapons over the side of the ship they were to embark on and went back to the party. It took another month to rearm them. By that time they were “partied out” and went on to gather many honours during the war. “Nope, nothing to fool with, these guys.” Yoohoo - le Taliban - est vous là ? ...-

Ali Mustaf Maka’il, 22, was shot and killed in Manabolyo, northern Mogadishu, on September 7, 2006. Ali, college freshman and cloth merchant, accepted Christ as his only Savior 11 months ago.
A gunman loyal to the Union of Islamic Courts shot Mr. Ali in the back after he refused to join a Qur’an chanting crowd in response to the lunar eclipse.
The Union of Islamic Courts confiscated Mr. Ali’s body for 24 hours. The body was later returned in a military truck to his grieving family.
Kindly pray for the family of Mr. Ali as well as his grieving house church.
This is the first known martyrdom the Somali church has faced since the jihadist Islamic Courts took over Mogadishu three months ago.

More Librano Skullduggery: In the double "Back to School" issue of Maclean's (September 11) there's an article on the lawyer who stands to make $100 million from the residential schools' law suits.
His name is Tony Merchant (you can say that again), who billed his clients for 5,300 hours last year. The article points out that a lawyer who is considered "a top producer" will put in an annual bill for 2000 hours.
As if his questionable billing practices aren't enough to make him suspect of some fancy financial footwork, guess who he's married to?
You'll never guess.
He's married to Pana...Merchant...and, wait for it...she's a Liberal Senator for Saskatchewan.
Has anyone done a study of who knew what when?
We've got a Liberal Senator's husband representing the natives who are suing the government, who knows that the government coffers, especially under the Librano$, are bottomless. Did he have insider information and why does his law firm, the Merchant Law Group, three of whose 40-member team are his sons, have more residential school cases than any other law firm in the country?
The CPC is questioning Merchant's whopping bill: As the author of the article, Jonathan Gatehouse, puts it, "The image of white lawyers raking in millions, while their poor native clients wait for cheques that might not even be enough to buy a new car is not a palatable one," not to mention the "lack of evidence or rationale" to support claims of $80 million worth of work. The Harper Government is asking for proof of "the amount of class action work...actually done."
Am I naive, or should a lawyer, with longstanding ties with the Librano$, with a penchant for making da big bucks, and married to a Liberal Senator, be representing clients who are dealing with the federal government?
It seems to me that you could drive a Mack truck through the conflicts of interest here.
Noticed on Warren Kinsella's blog he likes the idea of Graham Fraser becoming Commissioner of Official Languages.
Now maybe I'm not reading all this in the right light.....but could it be that Liberals really don't care for true billingualism?

Tony Merchant is not well respected in the legal community. The reason he represents so many people in this case is because he is an effective marketer - he runs store front law firms and he was very aggressive in signing people up for this class action suit. He has been counsel in at least one other class action law suit that I know of. A number of lawyers take advantage of their Native clients by making gobs of money winning back their treaty rights. In Alberta, several lawyers were disbarred for using their position to dip into the trust funds of their Aboriginal youth clients.
That said, it is my understanding from a friend who works for justice that the residential schools case was settled on the basis of a few "test cases". Some cases were tried before a court and the feds simply looked at the amounts awarded by the courts in those cases to determined a fair offer in the rest. They actually saved taxpayers millions of dollars by settling rather than taking every case to trial.
While I agree there are times when governments retain law firms as a means to reward them for supporting their party, that is not what happened here. The liberals could not control who represented the Plaintiffs in this case. They did not settle in order to give Merchant a big payout - if they wanted to do that they would have run this case for several years to ensure he was able to bill even more.
For an example of how governments use taxpayer money to repay their party supporters you can look at how the Alberta government retained a private law firm (one with major Tory ties) to represent them in the Vriend case (gay rights) and the challenge to the gun registry. The Alberta government already pays approximately 100 lawyers to represent them in these cases, however chose to retain a private law firm instead.
This is not unique to the Tories - any time you hear of a private law firm retained to represent the government, you can bet that firm is a big supporter of the governing party. All governments have lawyers on staff, who are well paid, and more than able to handle these cases.

DiNovo is an ordained United Church minister whose rants/sermons are not liked/hated by Warren Kinsella, et al Liberals. Christ is da man, she says, da socialist man. Sample:
In the Vatican, 15 old white men, followed by hundreds of other men, walked behind a great man last week to honour the world-impacting life he'd led. Outside, thousands of women and ordinary people – gardeners, the wounded, the ones who bake and offer the bread – unable to find a place inside, lit candles.
Some of them whispered prayers to Christ, that humble one, that poor one, that sometimes unrecognizable one. Christ smiled from one to the other, as unrecognized as on the Emmaus road, at least by most.
Quietly, silenced, these are the people who will go on changing lives and changing the world. This is a prayer for them all. Amen.

DiNovo takes Toronto's Parkdale-High Park riding
Last Updated: Thursday, September 14, 2006 | 10:41
CBC News
Voters in Toronto's Parkdale-High Park elected the NDP's Cheri DiNovo as their new MPP in an Ontario provincial byelection on Thursday.
DiNovo beat out Liberal candidate Sylvia Watson, garnering 41 per cent of the vote to Watson's 33. David Hutcheon of the Progressive Conservatives came in third with 17.3 per cent of the vote, while Green Party candidate Frank De Jong captured 6.2 per cent.
With the provincial election just over a year away, political pundits say the NDP's victory is a blow to the Liberals, who already lost a popular cabinet minister and wanted to hold onto a seat previously considered solidly Liberal.
Former Education Minister Gerard Kennedy triggered the byelection in March when he resigned his position as MPP in the west Toronto riding to run for the federal Liberal leadership.

Vintage Chirac Scandal is Uncorked | September 15th, 2006
Wonder why French politicians are falling over one another these days to distance themselves from politics as usual? Look no further than the 16th chamber at the Palace of Justice in Paris, where 15 politicians and ex-officials went on trial this week for electoral fraud in a case that has been batted around a rickety French justice system for a full 17 years.
The long vintage gives the case its special piquancy, because the defendants were all cogs in the old Paris political machine of Jacques Chirac, who served 18 years as mayor of Paris before being elected President of France in 1995. And the accused are only the latest in a string of alleged bagmen, vote-riggers and ward-heelers charged with wrongdoing during Chirac’s city hall tenure — two of Chirac’s closest aides are among those already convicted in connection with kickback and party financing charges. As President, Chirac enjoys immunity from prosecution, but new elections are set for May, and there is scant chance that Chirac will run again, let alone win. That was why the opposition howled in protest when the government on Wednesday named a close legal advisor to Chirac, Laurent Le Mesle, as chief prosecutor of Paris. The new job will give Le Mesle a key role in deciding whether charges are ever brought against Chirac once he reverts to being a regular citizen. ...-
