The Budweiser commercial I want to see. (link fixed)
An essay by Richard Fernandez of The Belmont Club;
Neither Israel nor the West at large can long resist radical Islam without some sustaining faith of its own, a faith it will not find unless it makes up its mind to look for it.”
Suckered again.
It's time for conservatives to put this contentious pilot project behind us so that we can move forward on a "harm reduction" initiative with real live-saving meat on its bones - Safe Driving Lanes for alcoholics.

A perfect summer
Less rain, fewer smog alerts, cooler than last year, says climatologist
"It was the summer of summers. If you could package this summer, you’d go for it every year." — David Phillips, senior climatologist with Environment Canada
http://www.metronews.ca/story.aspx?id=7646
Perfect summer? Now there's an inconvenient truth!
Must be due to global warming aka climate change.
Yeah the SIS is such a success in Vancouver that the streets here have turned into a sewer. This and CBC and SOW and a whole bunch of the other liberano crap has got to go!!!! Prime Minister Harper please fix these horrible things the liberanos have done to our country.
SEND THEM ALL TO STEPHEN LEWIS' HOUSE. If they don't fit, then KOFFI ANNAN'S MANSION !!
Nice that these 150 non-Canadian, non-tax dollar-contributors will now displace seniors in hospitals. Seniors and others who have build Canada and contributed to its health care system all their lives. Ah, yes, the great Liberal way, reward failure.
ONE HUNDRED (150) escapee-refugees, from one conference !! Seems intentional. Another way for the UN, the Left, the Terrorists, to try and destroy our society.
Read a comment on another board that harm reduction is important because it keeps people alive, until they "hit bottom" and seek help. So, why make it comfortable? Why not let them hit bottom and provide help when they want to change?
Yes, it will cost some lives. It will also save untold thousands of lives when people get back to thinking of needle drugs as deadly and not just another social activity.
The main thing I've read about alcoholism is that the person's friends, relatives, etc. have to stop enabling. Why let the government become an enabler?
so they get a clean needle and a place with good lighting so they can see their veins.
Then they leave, go back on the streets, break into cars & houses to steal whatever they can to buy illegal drugs from millionaire bike gang drug dealers. Then they crap on the streets, hassle tourists with aggressive begging, steal food off people's plates while they dine on restaurant's streetside patios.
Seems like a good program.
As a Vancouver-area resident,I am disgusted with the amount of propaganda spewing from the left on this "safe" injection site.
The message citizens here are being bombarded with is clear...
Keeping this site open is the morally right thing to do(whether it works notwithstanding),don't let big bad Harper kill these poor victims.
No real data to back up their claims,no real voice for those opposed.Yet,when the average Joe has his say, there is clearly strong opposition to this in the community.Again, like citizens of a communist state,we are being told what to think by a controlling few.
Actually,a friend of mine suggested they take this all the way....
How about safe zones for car theft,B&E's and prostitution as this is how most get the cash to buy these illegal drugs.Municipally owned pawn shops would 'buy' the stolen goods and 'replant' them back in 'safe'cars and 'safe'homes for the next addict to steal. After all,is it not the left's way to protect people from the consequences of their actions?Even dangerous and criminal ones?
As most everyone has already heard, this city is in a crisis of crime(despite the VPD's recent $20,000 ad to claim otherwise)and our city council REFUSES to face this embarrassing fact and crack down with EXISTING laws, instead preferring to play socialist engineer.
I hope you take time to at least think about the following:
Alcohol is legal.
Cocaine is illegal.
Weed is kinda illegal.
Prescription drugs are legal as long as you have a doctor's note.
As a society,we are all over the map in controlling drugs.I submit we treat heroin and it's kin like the scourge it is and make it VERY illegal.
Pushers get stiff sentences.
Users go to specific drug prisons for treatment...no options. They need to be removed from their current surroundings and to experience some negative consequences for their actions. Also, while in an addicted state, they need to be kept off our streets....period.
And yes,you can create drug-free prisons if you really intend to.
Vancouver's law-abiding residents are under siege...how about some f*cking consideration for them?
Perfect summer?
One of America's top scientists has said that the world has already entered a state of dangerous climate change.

Hey Fred, it sounds like you've been downtown Ottawa recently
CPC slips in key battleground.
The decision by Canada's minority Conservative government to take a strongly pro-Israel stance is costing the party support in the influential French-speaking province of Quebec, according to a poll published on Thursday.
A CROP survey for La Presse newspaper put support for the federal Conservatives at 24 percent, down from 33 percent from the firm's last poll in late June. The separatist Bloc Quebecois was at 36 percent, up six points.
The poll -- the latest in a line of surveys showing lackluster support for the Conservative government -- is likely to dent speculation of a possible election later this year.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservatives control only 125 of the 308 seats in Parliament and need to boost support in Quebec if he is to stand any chance of winning a majority in the next election.

So Dave, are you suggesting Mr. Harper should abandon his principles and join the Israel bashing club to up his chances of a majority?
As the LPC and NDP's hold on this country seems limited to major cities where, coincidentally(or not),immigrants overwhelmingly settle to begin their lives as Canadians,is their strong concentration in certain ridings controlling many electoral outcomes? If so,does anyone else see a problem in this?
BTW,save me your racist accusation bullsh*t,we currently identify male/female support for parties. Is that sexism?
I believe this info is vital if we are to properly monitor and understand the actions of our various governments and political parties. For example, the aforementioned left's shift towards anti-semitism.
SOW is worried, it seems, that their funding is being challenged to prove its value.
Isn't it a normal function of government to assess which programs are working, and if not, why not?
The very group that is funded with millions of dollars by the government, is worried that 'that' other women's group, the one that takes *not one dime* from the government, REAL Women, has found a voice...in the conservative blogosphere.
The rally call of Progressive Bloggers is to start blitzing their MPs and the government.
progressivebloggers.ca/
They will present charts/graphs that show how women are still trailing behind, thinking that somehow that proves SOW is worth the money it takes in from us all. They hope taxpayers don't add in all of the other influences to prosperity of a nation.
They have had years with a government that delighted in claiming that they supported women's causes, in the most financially positive times for the country, and yet, they seem unsatiated.
Did that past government fail them, or is it that their demands know no bounds?
They will need to convince the tired taxpayer that they have earned the right to demand our financial assistance.
How they go about it will be quite telling.
This from Progressive Bloggers' site:
"Greetings all: If you've been following the blogosphere this week, you'll know that REAL Women is agitating to try and get the Conservative Government to halt funding to Status of Women Canada, a federal agency that funds different causes for women in this country. As noted in the Globe & Mail, this effort has been picked up and seized upon by the ultra-right wing conservatives in the blogging community, and they are attempting to use what influence they have to support REAL Women in the effort to petition the government into halting funding.
We admins at Prog Blog think we need to counter this and show Progressive support for the SWC and not let the Tories hear only 1 viewpoint."
One organizer offers that there are at least 40 stakeholders, yes 40, and 500, yes 500, women's groups, ....and they are worried about one other voice from women? Boggles, doesn't it!
Subject: just the facts, part I
by pamused on Sep 01, 11:43 EDT:
"in 2004-2005, swc commissioned an outside evaluation of the women’s program which included a survey of over 500 groups and interviews with 40 key stakeholders. it was completed in august 2005 but the report has not yet made it into the public domain."
Hmmmmm....Perhaps they will reveal who conducted that study and, why it is taking so long to get it to the taxpayers. We did pay for it, right?
Why is it not being brought forward?
Q: Hey don't you know drinking beer makes you smarter?
A: It sure made Bud W(e)iser!!
But of course this superseded by the Bavarian Reinheits Gebot (Purity Law) of 1516.
This would be a case of beeraucracy as the following news story would show!!

Remember, the SOW funding doesn't go towards any women in need. Not a penny.
All those millions of our tax dollars go only to fund the middle class women administrators and researchers who spend their lives ''doing studies', 'writing articles', attending conferences, making recommendations etc. It goes to fund the salaries, pensions and benefits of these women administrators. It goes to pay for their offices, their computers, their overseas and other trips, their conferences, their meetings.
Not one penny goes toward any woman-in-need. Nothing. It's all spent on the middle class women and their middle class jobs.
SOW counter-attack.
As Buffalo Bean says, the "progressive" blog world is planning on a counter offensive. One leg of such an offensive will be to show some numbers and usage to justify SOW's existance.
But SOW are in a dilemna here. In order to justify further government funding, they have to demonstrate its necessity. This can only be done by showing how down-trodden and unequal women are.
Which also will show how ineffective SOW has been with 30 years of taxpayers' money.
Anticipate the phrase "Although much has been achieved, there is still much to do". Practice laughing and guffawing.
SOW counter-attack II
Another tactic will be to list what feminism has done for women in their personal lives. One example given is "I used birth-control this week". There will undoubtedly be others.
This is disingenuous of them as most of the "feminist" gains were made in the 20th century, often precipitated by war needs, before the institution of SOW or other government programs.
So, whenever you hear a "what feminism has done for me" claim, ask whether SOW itself was responsible for it.

U.N. names panel to probe Israel abuses [Aw Jeez alert]
AP ^ | Sept. 1, 2006
GENEVA - The U.N. Human Rights Council on Friday appointed a Brazilian diplomat, a Tanzanian judge and a Greek professor to a commission investigating whether Israel committed systematic human rights abuses in Lebanon during recent fighting with Hezbollah militants. The commission was created last month by the council, which condemned Israel for what it called "massive bombardment of Lebanese civilian populations" and other "systematic" human rights violations. The committee is comprised of Brazil's Clemente Baena Soares, a former secretary general of the Organization of American States; Mohamed Chande Othman, who sits on Tanzania's supreme court and Stelios Perrakis, a professor...

Considering that with new aids drugs allowing the people infected with it to live(relatively ..) normal lives for decades, how much will we as taxpayers be on the hook for? millions of dollars over decades?
One would think that being a drain on the countrys medical infastructure would be an automatic ixnay on the refugee-a..but what the hell, we as conservatives will be bashed if we open our mouths one way or another on this, you watch..

I think we should keep the injection sites. In fact,I would go one step further and supply the heroin. But for this to work the laws must be changed so that anyone caught outside the site possesing or selling smack would recieve real jail time.Say 2 years first offence and upwards. This may stop a new crop of junkies from terrorizing the public. Junkies die and they would not be replaced.
Vasily Grossman
The Russian writer's novel "Life and Fate"—often compared with "War and Peace"—was first published in English in the mid-1980s. But only now is interest taking off among a wider public
Robert Chandler
Excerpt:
Grossman is still not widely read in contemporary Russia. Nationalists cannot forgive him for a long meditation in Everything Flows on "the slave soul" of Russia. Many Russians have simply not yet had time to digest the vast amount of previously forbidden literature that was first published in the late 1980s. The Uzbek writer Hamid Ismailov, for example, has told me that he read so much during those years that he can no longer remember who wrote what. And then, after the collapse of communism, Russians were thrown into a world so unfamiliar and frightening that they had little time or energy to think about their Soviet past.
But many other groups of readers are now being drawn to Grossman: Ukrainian émigrés, who value him for his writing about the terror famine; Jews, who value him for what he has written about the Shoah; people with an interest in the history of the second world war and the relationship between communism and fascism; journalists, who see him as an exemplary war correspondent. It is interesting that a recent European conference celebrating the centenary of Grossman's birth was held at a Catholic centre in Turin and that several of the writers, critics and journalists who most admire Grossman—Gillian Slovo, Martin Kettle and John Lloyd among others—are ex-Marxists. Both Catholics and Marxists tend to expect art not only to be a source of joy, but also to provide moral guidance and a greater understanding of reality. ...-

As another Vancouver resident, I am against the SIS. Take the Federal money [$500,000], quadruple it, and fund new detox beds. Everything I have seen says that junkies have to hit bottom before seriously considering rehab. Why make it easier for them and prolong the process, thus creating more crime to pay for their illegal drugs and subjecting the law abiding taxpayers to further depredations? These people are voluntarily poisoning themselves and spurning the values of mainstream society. We should turn a cold shoulder to their situation until they rejoin the lawabiding, taxpaying majority.

150+ HIV refugees should be no problem at all. We have so much extra capacity in our healthcare system...
Hopefully the conservatives can reform our refugee system so we can deport people in a few days, not decades. These refugees will cost millions, add little to Canada, and because of their hatred of "abstinence", will spread the virus to other Canadians.
The GG has a big empty house, she has a big salary and she says she has a big heart - they can all go 'crash' at her house, learn French and then move to Quebec. The Blocheads can look after them then. Stephen Lewis can send money for their support until they go to the province of the distint society. Meanwhile the illigals must pay for all medical expenses - just like Canadians who want to live have to pay. The 'three Bills' can certainly help out with expenses.
