Joe Warmington of the Toronto Sun is organizing a Support the Troops Rally for next Friday, Sept 29th, between 12:00 noon and 1:30 pm. Dundas Square at Yonge St.
Let's try to make it as big a rally as the Ottawa one.
The leftist-communist-Vietnam era crowd are apparently going to organize their own Stop the War rally ..somewhere. I wonder if Taliban Jack will be there?
I think Taliban Jack and his comrades are getting a rude awakening. We are Canadians, and we have a long history of supporting our troops and appreciating what they do for not only ourselves, but people around the world. It has always been that way.
I think, I don't know, that Taliban Jack has watched a few too anti-Iraqi war protests on CNN and was hoping to garner the same level of support for his anti-Afghanistan protests here in Canada. I suppose that he also had dreams of exploiting the Afghanistan war for a ride to 24 Sussex, but Taliban Jack forgot one thing; we are Canadians, NOT Americans!
I think Jack & the NDP have misjudged this situation and backed the wrong horse in this one. While it will be interesting to see exactly how this all develops, I am getting the distinct feeling that Canadians are not buying the NDP goods here and Jack will go down on this issue.
"The leftist-communist-Vietnam era crowd are apparently going to organize their own Stop the War rally ."
Are you even old enough to remember this time? I thought not. Do you think Canada should have contributed troops to Vietnam? Iraq?
I'm not defending the NDP - I cannot, in good concience, vote for them. However, criticism of our role in Afghanistan is quite valid. My best friends sister and husband just returned 3 months ago from Kandahar - they are highly supportive or the military, as am I.
What they doubt, as do I, is the possibility of success as we now define it. Kharzai is IMMENSELY unpopular. The drug warlords control most territory outside of Kabul, and the opium crop this year will be a record one, no doubt fuelling the insurgents.
We need to step back and ask ourselves - how does this mission end? What are the objectives? Fighting the Taliban? For each one we kill two more come over the border from Pakistan.
It's time for an honest debate, and I would prefer if people like Layton were'nt the ones framing it.
I just wrote to CTV at my disgust at how they turned a day of support for our troops and our effort overseas into podium for jack layton We do not even have what I call a "guided" democracy when I see the people of our country manipulated this way.
Shame is the only word I can use to describe how I feel. I truly worry for our children and what awaits them in the future.
melwilde, I teach "our children". My soft spot for them is wide and deep, but you're absolutely right. I'd say be scared.

Speech to the Economic Club of New York
September 20, 2006
New York City, New York
Excerpt:
So why, ladies and gentlemen, in a turbulent and uncertain world, when our economy and our security are affected by developments in far-off lands, should you focus your attention and your energies on Canada?
Because Canada is the opposite – a stable and positive force for good – that has much to bring to the table in chaotic and trying times. And, make no mistake, Canada intends to be a player.
So allow me to highlight tonight three things Canada has to offer in facing global challenges:
# First, a strong and robust economy and, in particular, an energy industry that is increasingly one of the most important in the world;
# Second, a strong partnership in building both a more competitive and more secure North America;
# And third, a common will to advance, in concert with our democratic allies, our shared values and interests throughout the world.
Canada: Robust Economy and Energy Superpower
First, Canada has a strong economy, based on long-term free-market fundamentals. We are leading the G-7 in economic and fiscal performance. And Canada is an emerging energy superpower, the only stable and growing producer of this scarce commodity in an unstable world. ...-

Hey whadya know, there's still some red blooded Canadians left.
So, the opium crop is huge, all the better for the elites of canadas left to purchase it and supply financial aid to the enemy. Every time you pass a safe injection site think of those people as traitors, supporting our enemy. Let us assume that every one at the rally yesterday represents at least 100 that couldn't be there. Thats a lot of votes against the libs and taliban jack. Was just one leadership candidate there.
Please watch to see if the loser decides to have Gail charged or tries to sue her. Watch her defense fund grow. Attend the rally in Toronto next Friday. Embarass a liberal, when you see them with something red on say, Thanks for supporting our troops. Get a photo of taliban jack or his wife wearing red, and post it, with a title. JACK CHANGES HIS MIND. Also, for a fun thing, phone the cbc and thank them for supporting our troops with their red set. Can't wait for some ndp or bloc asking a question in the HofC, with a red tie, and the responder starting his reply, MR. SPEAKER, I want to thank the honorable member for showing support for our troops. If nothing else it will increase consumer spending as all these taliban jack types will be buying new outfits and throwing out anything red.
Whats become of CINDY SHEEHAN has she and her bunch run out of money? and what about HANOI JANE?
