Marsha Akman is StopIggy.com

Remember the intense interest around StopIggy.com? It was that ankle-biting website dedicated to explaining to everyone just why Michael Ignatieff would cause death and destruction if he won the nomination for the Liberal Party leadership.

Two bits of news.

First, StopIggy.com has disappeared.

Second, we know the person behind it -- Marsha Akman, a Liberal Party activist and a member of the party's women's commission.

What we don't know is if there was someone behind Akman, and why the site has gone down.

"Liberal" . . .

weird speak for "those who eat their young for breakfast"

In other Liberal Leadership news, the sound of champagne corks were heard popping in the PMO this morning.

OT- See the scene outside the press bldg as Volpe leaves. Couple of people dressed as ghosts, with signs reading. RAE HAS SPIRIT. Reminds me of a former liberal p.m. who talked to his dog, saw a phycic in London, and spoke to his dead mother. Guess the liberals haven't changed in over 60 years. Still think it is very scarry to think if the libs ever win again, those contenders will be in the cabinet. Bet Sheila Copps is laughing at all the membership crap. Didn't she say she had no access, people were denied membership or entry into the room to vote. It must be liberal policy in the red book to be dishonest.

Interesting how Bob Rae has become the top leading candidate for the Liberal Party. Demonstrates the overthrow of the Liberal Party by the NDP. This is soooo funny.

Unfortunately, the Liberals get the "I don't like the Conservatives, they're scary" vote by default.

All the media has to do is scare enough voters from electing Conservatives and the liberals win again.

Shudder... scary thought.

The site is back up again.

It looks like it's back up.

The befuddlement, a la Fuddle-Duddle, of the Liberals.

TDH says HiI'mBob is a honky-tonk man. Did he take lessons from Joplin*?

Excerpt:

I ask this honestly, with befuddlement rather than attack at the forefront of my mind: How can people believe that Rae will be so electable for this party? From my point of view, I can't help but entirely agree with the following sentence from this Ottawa Sun article over the weekend:

"The Tories must be praying to God you get elected Liberal leader. Your political baggage in Ontario and your piano playing on the hustings will be manna from heaven for them." ...-

*Scott Joplin learned his trade in saloons and brothels.

If Rae wins then what happens to the Petersen wing of the Liberal Party.

Only a candidate that drives up the middle can unite the Liberal party. Dion or Kennedy, I am not adovocating by the way just as an outside observer.

But fortunately for the CPC, both of them present issues as well. Kennedy will come across as directionaless and inexperienced and Dion, well, I really just dont think that he will play well in Ontario or down east.

Rae....I personally like him and respect him, I just dont agree with him. And dont feel like letting him learn again, like he did as premier.

But the debates will be good.

From the Rae-Days Journal.

An' remember: Missy Jean H. Augustine got a bum deal (kick from a boot?).

That Apps could sure stick-handle. Go, Leaves.

More: Peter Newman holds a Conservative Party card? Brian knows.

George Stopiggyopolous fires the fuel, too.

Conclusion: AdScam Chretien and the Librano$ win: Rae is da man, da made man. ...-

Iggy and His Buddies

Iggy has a large group of powerful supporters who are responsible for recruiting him to return to Canada and run for office, and for transforming him from fusty pseudo-Yankee academic into the slickster Johnny-Canuck politico that he has suddenly become.

One of the first people to publicly endorse Iggy was high-profile lawyer/Liberal fundraiser Alf Apps. Apps has been involved with the party since he was a Young Liberal, and was one of the people who worked to oust Trudeau and install Turner years later. Apps made his reputation within the Liberal party at the ’82 convention, where as a young law student he submitted a resolution calling for the elimination of Trudeau and his backroom boys, and decrying the influence of unelected “insiders” within the party structure. 30-odd years later, he has succeeded in becoming one of the powerful “old boys club” he once so disdained.

He and other prominent Liberals (Senator David Smith, Ian Davey, son of Keith “the Rainmaker” Davey, among others) got the idea to invite Iggy to run following a lovestruck article written about him in January of 2005 by famous journalist/backstabber Peter C. Newman. Newman is a well-known Conservative, which makes it puzzling that he is so keen to see this guy take the helm of the Liberal party. Newman has been joined by other prominent Conservative writers in his endorsement of Iggy, notably L. Ian MacDonald.

We can imagine that Iggy was quickly wooed by these pros who convinced him in no time that he would soon become Canada’s next Prime Minister. It wouldn’t have been that hard to argue the point, since Newman was already suggesting precisely that.

Iggy was slotted to be the keynote speaker at the Liberal Convention in March of last year, where he gave the opening address. Pundit George Strouboulopolous was later to note in an interview with Iggy that his “keynote speech” sounded exactly like a campaign speech.

As the Liberal government faced increasing problems in their fragile minority government, Iggy moved back to Canada in the summer of 2005. A CBC profile noted that this sudden return was “greeted with breathless profiles in national publications”, which assumed the hype that Iggy was to be the next Prime Minister of Canada made it a done deal.

But first, of course, Iggy had to actually run for office!

But Iggy couldn’t run in just any old riding – especially one in which there was a chance he could LOSE. So the struggle began to find a “safe” Ontario riding nomination for Iggy, except for the fact that none were free.

So, it was decided that Iggy would have to take over a riding from a Liberal incumbent. In the end, who stepped aside to let Iggy have his safe seat?

None other than H. Jean Augustine, a longtime MP who also happened to be the first Black woman elected to Parliament in Canada.

Jean resigned her seat to make way for Iggy. Although she publicly declared that she supported his candidacy, circumstances surrounding the parachuting make us at STOP IGGY feel that Ms. Augustine got a bum deal. ...-

Yup, http://stopiggy.com/ is definitely back up. Just went there and there it was ( and it's definitely not in my cache..:D ). Interesting little bit of Machiavellia, though...

TDH again: AdScam Martin is the culprit. AdScam Chretien is cleared. Absolve....-

Stories of membership fraud or dirty behind the scenes dealing only serve to reinforce the negative perception of the Liberal brand that became entrenched the day that Paul Martin went on his "madder than hell" sponsorship media blitz.

What is the Liberal party's raison d'etre? I've been listening intently, and am not entirely sure if I've got a satisfactory answer thus far.

What was that about recently when libs were complaining, and the cbc, that the PC government was refusing to let some run as a candiate. How many libs have been parachuted in, starting with Emerson. Listening to all the cuts today, and cancellation of programs, and money alloted but not spent, is that where the libranos got their money for adscam. At least our PM is putting it toward paying down the debt, as is required.
Those poor egal people, no more funding to put their wants into the constitution. I thought we had a charter of rights and freedoms, but these groups have turned it into a charter of WANTS AND
NO FREEDOMS.

Rick wrote: "Interesting how Bob Rae has become the top leading candidate for the Liberal Party. Demonstrates the overthrow of the Liberal Party by the NDP..."

It also seems to demonstrate that if you're Paul Desmarais' man (John Rae, Bob's bro, worked or works for Paul Desmarais' Power Corps), like Mulroney, Chretien, and Martin (PET, too?), you're likely to be the front runner.

Unfortunately, Maurice Strong comes along with the baggage as well.

And the Conservatives are accused of "a hidden agenda"? And the Conservatives are considered scary?

Give me a break.

I'm not sure who would be a better pick for Liberal leader from the Conservative stand point. Both front-runners present different strategic weaknesses. Iggy, will have a hardtime courting the far left with his views and it remains to be seen how well acomplished a politician he is, his public speaking skills were honed in University lectures not the campaign trail or boardroom. On the other hand, I just can't imagine that Rae will be able to bolster enough support in Ontario to win. I'm concerned that he may see himself as someone who can unite the Left, bringing the NDP and Liberals together.
There is a third possiblity as well that support for Ignatieff and Rae will split the vote allowing Kennedy or Dion to come up the middle.

Conservatives are the party of big business. Fat guys in tailcoats and striped pants, drinking champagne out of soldiers' helmets while lighting their cigars with hundred dollar bills. Doesn't everybody know that? Liberals, on the other hand, get their funding from the pin money of little old ladies, grateful immigrants and dewy-eyed youngsters glowing with idealism. The NDP gets their funding in frayed paper bags - oil-stained coins collected by soot-covered workingmen just up from the mines. Come on people - you've got to stop departing from the Approved Mythologies.

The liberal leadership race is losing crediblity fast ... why have they not kicked Volpe out of the party ... signing up dead people ...

I don't believe Bob Rae will get any Bay Street support, Iggy is too "american" for the liberal party which only leaves Kennedy (neophyte) and Dion, who as yet another Quebecer won't carry much wieght in Ontario and none out west. As someone wrote last week ... Stephen Harper is Canada's last (and I'll add best) chance.

This one simple question worries me! Doesn't the
country realize that this issue is the same as all other issues with the Federal Liberal Party?
Corruption. They are sick with it, tainted with it, smothered with it and it is smeared all over there character. Mr Rae the candidate from Power Corporation is the worst. You know the math 1+1=2 and in words; if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, guess what it is.
We need to officialy rename them the federal corruption party of Canada

If Rae is elected will the grits be called the Dippy Liberal Party?

Little things say a lot. I wonder if anyone else noticed this one:

"These positions run counter to longstanding Liberal ideology."

- "stopiggy.com"

Now that's a revealing statement.

You'd expect a crackpot fascist, Islamist, communist, NDP,* National Front or other hardline political party to have an "ideology."

But not a centrist party in a democracy. "Ideology"? How revealing.

I wonder what Gladstone would have made of "liberal ideology"?

Surely a bit of an oxymoron?

* Canada's Official Enemy PartyTM

They can't run a clean campaign to pick a leader and they hope to run the country?
Pretty sad, Volpe's team canvassing the graveyards for people to sign up. Instead of being outraged he pulls the race card. How low can they go? Looks like they haven't learned a thing, business as usual.

Don't forget Scott "I didn't know the answer so I just lied" Bryson another stellar human being

Didn't anybody notice that the Liberals are running their race in full view of the MSM. Where's all the MSM conspiracy theorists now.

Refreshing, a party that communicates...warts and all.

GO LIBERALS GO

Right ! GO LIBERALS, GO! Whistle past the graveyards across the land.
