From FOX News, reporting from Santa Rosa, California, news on John Mark Karr's impending release:
One-time JonBenet Ramsey murder suspect John Mark Karr was offered a plea deal Tuesday on child pornography charges that would free him on probation.
Assistant District Attorney Joann Risse said prosecutors would waive three of the five child pornography possession charges against him if he pleaded guilty on two remaining charges.
Karr, 41, would get credit for time served and would be placed on probation for three years. He also would be required to register as a sex offender.
As I've said before, Karr could choose to fight this. He could demand his jury trial and then argue an impartial jury can't be impanelled because of all the media attention. Or he could just take the plea and walk away.
Either way, this whole thing has been a circus, and the American justice system has come out looking like a bunch of fools. Defense lawyers did not come out looking much better either.
The question is whether this is the last we'll hear of John Mark Karr.

On the other hand, in Canada, we've got good news on the crime front.
Take me out to the penitentiary.
Conservatives bringing in "three strikes" legislation.
I disagree. The American Justice System did not come out looking like fools. They were advised of a potential murderer and took whatever action was necessary to bring him to justice. The fact that this idiot confessed lends credence to their actions.
The fact that he is just an insane person acting out his own fantasies does not negate the fact that he had to be taken very seriously when those same facts were not readily evident.
I say bravo for their Justice system. At least they act. If it happened in Canada, the jerk would still be at large.
A sad case, to be sure-but he had to be apprehended and dealt with. He has sealed his own fate. Let that be his punishment.
Ends up that this guy was LooneyBin Laden.
Great.
Ten more years of Jon Banet grotesqueness!
The MSM is unwatchable.
The guy got into legal trouble over in asia (I can't remember which country now) and there they give very harsh sentences (canning, etc..).
He knew the states would want him if he declared being the murderer of Jon Bennett, and he knew they would eventuallyrelease him.
For a little dweeb he's quite smart.

I say you need to read the news. Sealed his fate? He is going to be free.
If this happned in Canada?
What are you talking about? He is free. They can't prosecute someone for something on their computer if you don't have the computer itself and the logs to show the person was disseminating. That leaves possession for which you have to prove intent. existance on a computer is not sufficient.
Don't forget when you read all the cases of persons the recording and movie industries go after, the press releases say "download" to confuse people, but they mean "upload" or distribution. the actual legal discussions on findlaw etc show the discovery and and all evidence is of UPLOAD traffic.
