Part of the subtitle of the Toronto Star headline about funding cuts to "women's (aka feminist) groups" reads:

"Tory moves deliberate..."

Well, duh. I guess this is news given that the Liberals, I presume, did a lot of things undeliberately--or at least carelessly.

Who writes this stuff?

Just as long as they don't cut the women's programs that are supporting women's rights in fundamentalist Islam, I could care less.

The women's groups do have such programs, right? I mean, they are outraged at the treatment of their sisters in these theocracies, right?

Right on, Shaken. Not a word from these "women's groups" since Canada has been sending troops to Af'stan to ensure that girls can go back to school and that women can drive again and go to work. None of their members, as far as I can make out, have gone on fact-finding missions to Af'stan to see how they can help their Muslim sisters out.

These entrenched, taxpayer-funded "women's groups" are, in fact, a bunch of upwardly mobile, middle class, disgruntled--and often lesbian--women who construe victimhood behind every tree. They then move to "fix it," with Draconian programs, like "sensitivity training," for those of us who disagree with their worldview.

Bravo! to Bev Oda and the CPC for their "deliberate" move to cut funding to these pseudo "women's (aka feminist)" groups. The Canadian people have far more serious and deserving concerns on which to spend tax revenues.

I've long figured that Western 'Feminist' groups don't want to publicize the situations that third world women face because highlighting real problems will only make their fake 'woes' appear even more trivial by comparison......being hung for killing a rapist in self-defense, being thrown on a funeral pyre with a dead husband, being slaughtered in an 'honor killing', etc, are just a tad more devastating than having a rental hall balk at hosting a lesbian wedding.

Similar silence on attempts to impose Sharia law inside our own borders too, 'been there'.

'Some critics' are saying their agenda isn't what they say it is.

Question: Just how many of these parasite women's organizations at at the public teat? Maybe it is just me but I've never heard of National Association of Women and the Law nor The Canadian Feminist Alliance for International Action.

I don't know why some people think they're entitled to live off the taxpayer their whole working life, is it their overwhelming sense of entitlement, backed by their overinflated egos?

If any group wants to represent an agenda,they should approach their target audience, and solicit funds from them. If they receive enough funds to operate, then they have some claim to legitimacy. If they don't get backing from said target group, unless the TG is in extreme poverty, one has to question the usefulness of the organisation. Do they really represent anyone other than themselves?

Get off the taxpayers teat, and demonstrate your worthiness by acquiring private funding. Failing that, go get a real job.

Right - the millions spent supporting groups like Status of Women doesn't go to any needy women; it's entirely and completely and only spent on this set of middle class socialist women. It's a parasite industry, attaching itself to a particular topic (women) but its primary goal is - its own well-being.

Taxpayer money goes for their salaries, their offices, phones, mobiles, computers, equipment. It's spent on funding their travel to 'conferences', or 'research'; it's spent on paying for grad students to do their research. Not a penny, not a dime, not a cent, goes to any women in need.

The amount our government spends on this secondary industry devoted to 'talking about women in need' is enormous.

Think about the number of research projects on 'women in need' carried out by middle class professors, funded by SSHRC - a gov't agency that funds university research. Millions more go on that each year. Another parasite group. How many studies are required on 'the status of women'?

My guess is that a lot more of our taxpayer money goes to support this secondary industry, these parasite groups that live off 'studying women', than is spent on actual direct services to any women in need.

Watch for the 'hidden agenda' cries...Harper and company are responding to 'activists'...you know...the taxpayers who want accountability in government spending...and are not represented by SoW.

You know, like every conservative minded group in the country. It seems to me like REAL Women has been doing just fine raising its own money.

As far as I'm concerned, I have no problems with groups lobbying the government. I just have a problem with the government forcing me to pay for it. If what they're saying is so popular, then go for it. Start a funding drive. But if they do that, REAL Women Canada will be the biggest women's group in Canada, because they have honest funding, and the feminist groups can't stand that thought.

So the issue shouldn't be about whether the conservatives are stopping funding feminist groups (though we know it will be) it should be that the conservatives are stopping funding everyone who is lobbying them. I hope they do.

Actually, the craft fairs I've been to have been great. A lot of real talent and no (obvious) diesel dykes visible. I very much enjoy them and get good value for the money I spend there.

As for the womyns groups, if all the membership they claim to have would donate just one loonie apiece, they would have more money than they ever got from government. Methinks the membership stats are somewhat inflated....

Having just listened to Hamid Karazai speak in Ottawa something occured to me about the resounding silence of the radical feminist left in regards to the oppression of females by the Taliban.

Karazai noted that under the Taliban 700,000 children attended school....all male. Currently some 6 million Afghan children attend school...some 35% of them being girls and young women. By my math that ammounts to some 2.1 million girls/women who have achieved some measure of equality.

Karazai also spoke of the case of a 75 yr. old grandmother who devoted her life to caring for her grandchildren only to be executed by the Taliban as a "spy". As Karazia noted this was done solely for the purpose of terror and phsycological intimidation.

So why no outcry from the Judy Rebicks and the rest of the SoW ilk?

Oh yea. Staying at home to support children doesn't really fit with feminist principles.

But surely one would think that these radical gals would applaude the education of some 2.1 million young women.

I suspect this is because of those 2.1 million recently emancipated women practically none would find the SoW agenda to be relevant, realistic or right.

you are obviously going to the wrong fairs/markets. It is like going to the mall, you have your Walmart booths and you have your Dollar Store booths along with the odd real find. Kind of like going to a garage sale: send someone who can afford to spend an hour looking for that dollar saved gem.

Not to play devil's advocate, but here's what the women's groups will be thinking:

"How can we be expected to raise our money? We represent the oppressed of society who have no voice. We represent those who only make 63 cents on the dollar to what men make. We represent the abused woman who had to flee her husband because the patriarchal police force wouldn't enforce a restraining order. We represent the marginal, the disenfranchised, the poor. They have no money!"

And what's even more incredible is that they believe that.

If that is so, then why are the majority of their supporters university educated? Why don't the poor speak up? (answer: because they're too busy trying to contend with the necessities of life that they're unaware of the resources out there).

The truth, if they took a long, hard look at it,is that poor women don't support them because they're too busy raising their families. They're sacrificing their incomes and staying at home and letting their husbands provide because kids need their moms. They're busy running church programs and community programs and volunteering in the schools. That's where the lower income people are.

They're also sending in $10 and $15 cheques to REAL Women Canada.

So it's all crap. But they'll say it (and believe it) anyway....

You do not speak for many people who support farmers markets, manage them, vette the vendors, those who shop there for QUALITY, or the many vendors who make a VERY GOOD income from the many Markets that are seasonal. Many vendors make enough from their seasonal sales to support them all year. Maybe you are jealous? Or just mixing up quality with quantity? Most markets/vendors , in Alberta in particular, are very carefully vetted. Strathcona in Edmonton is particularily carefull.

I don't want to get too O/T here but the topic is about those who profess to speak for others so I would like to ask some of you who have made comments about dykes etc. to think before you speak. You are feeding the left.

Some people are born the way they are and are often shaped (mentally and physically) the way they are through no fault of their own. Some people raise their kids the way they were raised, some parents pass on all kinds of horrible behaviours and attitudes to their kids. Not becuse they want to but becuase it was done to them. The bullied, becomes the bullier, the bossy become the controller, etc. I think you get my drift. Some things are learned some things are not. Some people are blissfully unaware, some live in ignorance.

The gay person, or fat person you make fun of today, could some day be you daughter, niece, nephew etc. Before labelling someone, think about the possibility you may some-day be proved wrong.

This isn't just for John; but please picture you're favorite treat that your mother made and think of her selling that product at a Framers Market for example. Think of something you've done or been proud of and trying to sell it...
Think of someone you liked and respected until you found out they were gay or have a gay relative, or a fat wife or a disabled child.

Open your mind and heart to the possibilities...

A poster named Jeff, who claimed to be in the Queens Service, took many of us to task about muslim steroe-typing awhile ago. He was pretty abusive about it, but his assertions about what we say and do here; is making an impact on how successful terrorist recruiters are, and therefore makes their job more difficult, has made me think alot about what we do say.

I think he was very abusive in his delivery and I do not agree with being shut up about certain veiw points (thanks to our fundamental freedoms that we all use and sometimes abuse) but then I think of Corporal Shane Keating , how he died, why and when he died, and his Mother's words.

And along with cutting funding to these idiotic groups, we need to deep six the stupid Court Challenges Program....the sooner the better. Immediately would be best!
