Right on, Shaken. Not a word from these "women's groups" since Canada has been sending troops to Af'stan to ensure that girls can go back to school and that women can drive again and go to work. None of their members, as far as I can make out, have gone on fact-finding missions to Af'stan to see how they can help their Muslim sisters out.
These entrenched, taxpayer-funded "women's groups" are, in fact, a bunch of upwardly mobile, middle class, disgruntled--and often lesbian--women who construe victimhood behind every tree. They then move to "fix it," with Draconian programs, like "sensitivity training," for those of us who disagree with their worldview.
Bravo! to Bev Oda and the CPC for their "deliberate" move to cut funding to these pseudo "women's (aka feminist)" groups. The Canadian people have far more serious and deserving concerns on which to spend tax revenues.
I've long figured that Western 'Feminist' groups don't want to publicize the situations that third world women face because highlighting real problems will only make their fake 'woes' appear even more trivial by comparison......being hung for killing a rapist in self-defense, being thrown on a funeral pyre with a dead husband, being slaughtered in an 'honor killing', etc, are just a tad more devastating than having a rental hall balk at hosting a lesbian wedding.
Question: Just how many of these parasite women's organizations at at the public teat? Maybe it is just me but I've never heard of National Association of Women and the Law nor The Canadian Feminist Alliance for International Action.

I don't know why some people think they're entitled to live off the taxpayer their whole working life, is it their overwhelming sense of entitlement, backed by their overinflated egos?
If any group wants to represent an agenda, they should approach their target audience, and solicit funds from them. If they receive enough funds to operate, then they have some claim to legitimacy. If they don't get backing from said target group, unless the TG is in extreme poverty, one has to question the usefulness of the organisation. Do they really represent anyone other than themselves?
Get off the taxpayers teat, and demonstrate your worthiness by acquiring private funding. Failing that, go get a real job.
Right - the millions spent supporting groups like Status of Women doesn't go to any needy women; it's entirely and completely and only spent on this set of middle class socialist women. It's a parasite industry, attaching itself to a particular topic (women) but its primary goal is - its own well-being.
Taxpayer money goes for their salaries, their offices, phones, mobiles, computers, equipment. It's spent on funding their travel to 'conferences', or 'research'; it's spent on paying for grad students to do their research. Not a penny, not a dime, not a cent, goes to any women in need.
The amount our government spends on this secondary industry devoted to 'talking about women in need' is enormous.
Think about the number of research projects on 'women in need' carried out by middle class professors, funded by SSHRC - a gov't agency that funds university research. Millions more go on that each year. Another parasite group. How many studies are required on 'the status of women'?
My guess is that a lot more of our taxpayer money goes to support this secondary industry, these parasite groups that live off 'studying women', than is spent on actual direct services to any women in need.
Watch for the 'hidden agenda' cries...Harper and company are responding to 'activists'...you know...the taxpayers who want accountability in government spending...and are not represented by SoW.
This info( run away spending on extreme special interests) has been available for quite a while , and finally we have some people in Ottawa listening to Canadians...not the elite feminists with their own 'agenda'.
It's long overdue. I urge everyone to be on thier toes. Folks like Libby and sven are dangerous when they begin to organize the little rats that have under thier command. Someone organizes the street riots and protests which are all covered in splendour by the cbc and star. Guess who is behind these "spontaneous"
events.
Right on ET...have they 'studied' the 'status of women' who make choices that are in contrast to their agenda ie: women who choose to stay home with kids?women who choose not to have abortions?women who have faith in Christ?women who think marriage is acceptable?women who have done well without bashing men and family? They are Canadian women too!!
These gals are useless old segregationist lesbians. Judy Rebick, for example, has never ever done much to help women; most of her interventions and advocacy drives have been based on little more than resentiment against males, white males in particular.
Even her "abortion-on-demand" schtick is more about pissing men off than about female empowerment.
She doesn't build women up, she tears men down. Remember her noon-hour talk show on CBC about 8 years back? It was publically funded, and yet reserved exclusively for "womyn" and with NO male guests allowed. A gal who has made a career of denoucning gender segregation turns around, and, in an astounding irony tone-deaf reversal, decides to host a T.V. show characterised by blatant gender apartheid.
To boot, she's quite mum on the horrendous treatment of women in Islamic countries......something you think she'd be quite vocal about. There are two reasons for this: 1) the men engaging in this mistreatment are brown and therefore exempted from Judy's wrath. 2) the Islamic world now constitutes "the resistance" against American "hegemony", a role once played by her old friends the communists.
Blind-sided by her resentiment against white western males, Judy has embraced the very misogyny, and it's a misogyny of the worst kind, that she had once set out to destroy.
Will she ever grow the fuck up, slim the fuck down and get the fuck out?
dmorris is right--if the groups are so wonderful, get private funding.
You know, like every conservative minded group in the country. It seems to me like REAL Women has been doing just fine raising its own money.
As far as I'm concerned, I have no problems with groups lobbying the government. I just have a problem with the government forcing me to pay for it. If what they're saying is so popular, then go for it. Start a funding drive. But if they do that, REAL Women Canada will be the biggest women's group in Canada, because they have honest funding, and the feminist groups can't stand that thought.
So the issue shouldn't be about whether the conservatives are stopping funding feminist groups (though we know it will be) it should be that the conservatives are stopping funding everyone who is lobbying them. I hope they do.
".....hell hath no fury like a diesel dyke scorned"
No word of a lie, I saw the following in Edmonton a few weeks ago; while waiting at a red like along side me pulls a Subaru with a large "celebrate diversity" bumper sticker. Inching forward to the stop line I catch a glimpse of the driver. 250+ pounds, butt ugly, tattoo adorned, skin tight (sweaty) tank top, brush cut bleached hair and facial hardware o'plenty. Oh yeah, female too. (I think) Fit the stereotype to a tee!
Last year my wife dragged me to the mega craft sale at the Butterdome in Edmonton. The diesel dyke demographic was well respresented that day!
I think Subaru should start a new ad campaign whereby in an attempt to expand their market share, their new motto should be:
No Broads for Oil! Er, should that be No Food for Broads? Maybe um..You Womyns be Slimmin' or ya don't get no Trimmin's.
Help me out here, folks!
If you are coerced into going to one of those craft sales, RUN ! DON"T LOOK BACK, just RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
Congratulations to the conservatives for BEGINNING (and I do hope this is only the beginning) to scrap all these useless wastes of taxpayer money. Besides, as the great Jean Chretien once said... "What's a million or two here or there?" I can't wait until they get to all the arts programs that us working stiffs support so some lazy ass elitist can make a living playing the flute or painting bowls of fruit all the while looking down on us regular "folk" that support them.
If these poor trod upon women feel so subjugated then I'm sure they should be able to raise money from the plethora of successful women in this country who should surely sympathize with their plight.
Oh, by the way...going to a craft sale (or farmers market) is a great way to spend an hour or two making fun of all the retards that think they have a real talent for making stained glass plates, macrame, or whatever great art form one of their friends/parents told them they were really "great" at.
I'll be at the Edmonton Farmer's Market tomorrow morning. Going to spend about $50 at the Korean fellow's both who makes the best kimchi you'll ever eat. (Homer Simpson: "Mmmmmmm, kimchi!)
Local artist, Yardley Jones has a nice display of his works too.
Judy R might get a job on the new jane fonda network. The SOWs could go gracefully into the night by issuing the following stmt.
It has come to our attention that sows, (female pigs) are an insult to muslims. Our lesbian lifestyle is also an insult to muslims. We do not want to be guilty of insulting these people, causing rioting and burning in canadian streets, therefore as of Oct 1st, 2006 we are disbanding, and request funding previously given to the sows be turned over to REAL women, who we are proud to say represent the views of the majority of women in Canada.
In closing, we have voted against mass suicide of our members to increase the supply of virgins for all those terrorists that are going to their glory.
Just maybe, the thought of what is awaiting them as virgins would convert all those killers.
Actually, the craft fairs I've been to have been great. A lot of real talent and no (obvious) diesel dykes visible. I very much enjoy them and get good value for the money I spend there.
As for the womyns groups, if all the membership they claim to have would donate just one loonie apiece, they would have more money than they ever got from government. Methinks the membership stats are somewhat inflated....
Having just listened to Hamid Karazai speak in Ottawa something occured to me about the resounding silence of the radical feminist left in regards to the oppression of females by the Taliban.
Karazai noted that under the Taliban 700,000 children attended school....all male. Currently some 6 million Afghan children attend school...some 35% of them being girls and young women. By my math that ammounts to some 2.1 million girls/women who have achieved some measure of equality.
Karazai also spoke of the case of a 75 yr. old grandmother who devoted her life to caring for her grandchildren only to be executed by the Taliban as a "spy". As Karazia noted this was done solely for the purpose of terror and phsycological intimidation.
So why no outcry from the Judy Rebicks and the rest of the SoW ilk?
Oh yea. Staying at home to support children doesn't really fit with feminist principles.
But surely one would think that these radical gals would applaude the education of some 2.1 million young women.
Silence.
I suspect this is because of those 2.1 million recently emancipated women practically none would find the SoW agenda to be relevant, realistic or right.
Radical feminism ala Judy and the SoWs has nothing to do with gender equality rather their focus is sexual expression.
In the context of Afstan their message is nothing short of ridiculous. Hence Judy and the girls have no affinity for their Afstan "sisters".
"Sisterhood" in the SoW sense is an entirely different kettle of fish.
johnboy - Totally agree, but don't forget the "great Jean the Cretin" also said if you don't like the way we run the country then piss off. Obviously not talkimg to the moonbats.
The idea that my tax dollars go to an overtly political group who (whom?) few Canadians support, and who have never been elected to office, is outrageous.
If these groups want monetary support, they can go get it from their supporters. And if they can't dig up enough funds that way, well they don't have much of a mandate, do they?
With a handle like johnboy you should watch who you call retards, eh. Besides, my doctor said I was doing much better now.
you are obviously going to the wrong fairs/markets. It is like going to the mall, you have your Walmart booths and you have your Dollar Store booths along with the odd real find. Kind of like going to a garage sale: send someone who can afford to spend an hour looking for that dollar saved gem.
Not to play devil's advocate, but here's what the women's groups will be thinking:
"How can we be expected to raise our money? We represent the oppressed of society who have no voice. We represent those who only make 63 cents on the dollar to what men make. We represent the abused woman who had to flee her husband because the patriarchal police force wouldn't enforce a restraining order. We represent the marginal, the disenfranchised, the poor. They have no money!"
And what's even more incredible is that they believe that.
If that is so, then why are the majority of their supporters university educated? Why don't the poor speak up? (answer: because they're too busy trying to contend with the necessities of life that they're unaware of the resources out there).
The truth, if they took a long, hard look at it,is that poor women don't support them because they're too busy raising their families. They're sacrificing their incomes and staying at home and letting their husbands provide because kids need their moms. They're busy running church programs and community programs and volunteering in the schools. That's where the lower income people are.
They're also sending in $10 and $15 cheques to REAL Women Canada.
So it's all crap. But they'll say it (and believe it) anyway....
"Oh, by the way...going to a craft sale (or farmers market) is a great way to spend an hour or two making fun of all the retards that think they have a real talent for making stained glass plates, macrame, or whatever great art form one of their friends/parents told them they were really "great" at."
What an ignorant thing to say.
You do not speak for many people who support farmers markets, manage them, vette the vendors, those who shop there for QUALITY, or the many vendors who make a VERY GOOD income from the many Markets that are seasonal. Many vendors make enough from their seasonal sales to support them all year. Maybe you are jealous? Or just mixing up quality with quantity? Most markets/vendors , in Alberta in particular, are very carefully vetted. Strathcona in Edmonton is particularily carefull.
Eskimo gave you 2 very good examples and I assure you there are many many more.
Feminism is a hundred times greater threat to Canada and western civilization than any conceivable "Islam-O-fascist" conspiracy theory. Anyone who says otherwise is a feminist, a homosexualist, or a pussy whipped male.
Maybe a feminist state deserves to fail. Maybe a feminist state deserves to be conquered. Maybe by pussifying Canadian males past the point of no return, Canadian feminists have guaranteed that they will either be wearing burkas or perish in war within this generation. Maybe if skanks want to run their feminist scam in Afghanistan they can go fight and die for it themselves.
Canada is under attack; the Great Satan that would destroy Canada is named Feminism. Who will stand up for Canada?
“The Canadian Feminist Alliance for International Action….. request for $350,000 in renewed project funding.”
I would hope that in the future requests from groups with such lofty names be required to deliver their requests in person to the nearest Federal Government building. The receiving clerk would then inform them that their request would be forwarded to The Ministry of Silly Walks, for immediate consideration. Any Federal employee that smirked, giggled or guffawed when receiving such an application would be seriously considered for promotion within the civil service.
cal2 - I don’t see the need to casually and lasciviously besmirch a fine power source like diesel.
I don't want to get too O/T here but the topic is about those who profess to speak for others so I would like to ask some of you who have made comments about dykes etc. to think before you speak. You are feeding the left.
Some people are born the way they are and are often shaped (mentally and physically) the way they are through no fault of their own. Some people raise their kids the way they were raised, some parents pass on all kinds of horrible behaviours and attitudes to their kids. Not becuse they want to but becuase it was done to them. The bullied, becomes the bullier, the bossy become the controller, etc. I think you get my drift. Some things are learned some things are not. Some people are blissfully unaware, some live in ignorance.
The gay person, or fat person you make fun of today, could some day be you daughter, niece, nephew etc. Before labelling someone, think about the possibility you may some-day be proved wrong.
This isn't just for John; but please picture you're favorite treat that your mother made and think of her selling that product at a Framers Market for example. Think of something you've done or been proud of and trying to sell it...
Think of someone you liked and respected until you found out they were gay or have a gay relative, or a fat wife or a disabled child.
Open your mind and heart to the possibilities...
Possibly you could be proven wrong about something or someone. Shallow people dig deep holes.
We don't need any group hugs, just some thought. Or perhaps keep them to yourself?
Irwin Daisy, agreed that "Equality has a different definition to socialist dykes. It means inequality if you'er not a socialist dyke."
It also means female supremacy. These disgruntled women in no way want equality, especially for men or for women, like myself who, before I got a post-grad degree to help put my children through university, stayed home with them and did 1000s of hours of volunteer work in my community.
We're all fodder for their grist mill; men and stay-at-home moms, as far as Judy Rebick and her ilk are concerned, are the enemy and the traitor--and this idea has been government-sanctioned for the past 25 to 30 years.
No wonder our society is such a mess, and thank G*d PMSH and the CPC are beginning to take a serious broom to the debris.
Looks like Belinda Stronach is on the side of the dykes on this one. Let's take a look at this.
SOW et al need funding.
Stronach was/is CEO of Magna Corp.
Why doesn't she provide funding for them through a Corporate donation? All large companies donate funds to different organizations all the time. Hell, that Virgin guy just announced yesterday he was donating 3 Bil to fight Global Warming or some such thing. I suggest all you well and truly caring readers contact Ms. Stonach and make that very suggestion. I'm sure she'll appreciate the idea and immediately hop to it.
Call her bluff. Refer to her quotes in the Red Star of today's date. In fact, I will begin the process if any of you out there can provide me with her corporate email address. Oh, and I won't sign my correspondence "rattfuc" either. I have a confession to make. That's not my real name.
Cheri, I have to say that I agree with all you have said. Sometimes I suffer from foot-in-mouth syndrome. Your wisdom is much appreciated. And again, I apologize to anyone I offended.
Thanks again John. We can't all be grown up all the time. Believe me I have my own moments of verbal diaharea.
A poster named Jeff, who claimed to be in the Queens Service, took many of us to task about muslim steroe-typing awhile ago. He was pretty abusive about it, but his assertions about what we say and do here; is making an impact on how successful terrorist recruiters are, and therefore makes their job more difficult, has made me think alot about what we do say.
I think he was very abusive in his delivery and I do not agree with being shut up about certain veiw points (thanks to our fundamental freedoms that we all use and sometimes abuse) but then I think of Corporal Shane Keating , how he died, why and when he died, and his Mother's words.
And along with cutting funding to these idiotic groups, we need to deep six the stupid Court Challenges Program....the sooner the better. Immediately would be best!

Part of the subtitle of the Toronto Star headline about funding cuts to "women's (aka feminist) groups" reads:
"Tory moves deliberate..."
Well, duh. I guess this is news given that the Liberals, I presume, did a lot of things undeliberately--or at least carelessly.
Who writes this stuff?
Just as long as they don't cut the women's programs that are supporting women's rights in fundamentalist Islam, I could care less.
The women's groups do have such programs, right? I mean, they are outraged at the treatment of their sisters in these theocracies, right?

Syncro
Syncro, do you mean they are silent about things like this?
johnboy - Totally agree, but don't forget the "great Jean the Cretin" also said if you don't like the way we run the country then piss off.
But they'll say it (and believe it) anyway....
did I say Diesel Dyke?
I meant to say "women in comfortable shoes" or "Birkenstock sect"
I stand corrected and respectfully retract my farmer's market comments.
John your prompt apology is much appreciated and shows you are not so much a boy.
Sorry Cal.
Diesel has such teutonic links,so potentially fascist that one shouldnt relate it to the left.
As does dyke, so Neatherlandish, is that why the dykes wear Birkenstock clogs?
Lets bash the dutch.
wooden shoes, wooden head, wounldnt listen.
Equality has a different definition to socialist dykes. It means inequality if your not a socialist dyke.
Now on to the NDP.
