Is it possible for the John Mark Karr fiasco to get even more fiasco-ish?
Sonoma County authorities say they've lost the computer that belonged to one-time JonBenet Ramsey murder suspect John Mark Karr and allegedly held the child pornography images that he's charged with possessing.
Edmonds said authorities looked for the computer for the past two weeks, but have had no luck. It likely was lost when the sheriff's department moved into a new building in 2002.
The Keystone Kops of Sonoma figure it won't matter:
But the missing computer, seized from Karr's home in 2001, was not expected to jeopardize the case against him because authorities had copied the entire hard drive contents and printed out the five illicit images, Sheriff's Department Lt. Dave Edmonds told The Press-Democrat of Santa Rosa on Tuesday.
Right. Because we all know just how permanent digital information is. How diificult it is to make something look like something it is not.
The defense will have a field day with this.
This farce has to end. The authorities are going to have to just give up and cut him loose. And live with the consequences of their incompetence.
I predicted this was going to happen.

And you are right.
I suppose Karr could end up suing the US government and/or the state of Colorado for extracting him from his playpen in Thailand. Get ready to ante up for a first class ticket back to Bangkok for this twisted little b@st@rd.
What also ticks me off about it, is that he gave a phoney confession and all of the stuff related to that, but he hasn't been charged with anything for wasting the court's and different police branches' time and money. Is there no "perverting the course of justice" or similar charge in the US? (Especially if it were a federal charge and would see him sent to a federal pen.)
You weren't the only one to predict this, Steve ... but I don't have a bliog. Well done. There must be more around this series of stories, that enabled this wanker to escape justice in Thailand.
Following on my previous post:
Wait a minute! A short while after this wanker was escaped from Thailand, there was a coup d'etat!!!
Whoa, do I smell the sulphurous Bush at work???
:-) Really big grin here, just joking.
Call for Chavez. He'll sniff out the real story.
:))
How the h%@# do you lose the contents of (please Lord tell me in the name of good policeman everywhere that at least it was actually in . . .) an evidence locker????!!!!

Andycanuck, that's a great question and there is: Obstruction of Justice.
However, in order to successfully convict him of that they would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he didn't do it.
Pretty messed up, huh?
Who gives a rats a** about this story. Don't you feel the slightest tug as the glitzy sensationalist tabloid media sucks you into it's clutches. The investigation became driven by the media due to the sensational nature of the crime and the huge amount of photos and footage of this poor little girl being dressed up like a stripper which gave the opportunity to create endless amounts of shiny 'news' stories and tabloid articles with which to sell you soap and soft drinks.
The parents of the children in these pageants treat these kids like they are in a dog show, but at least dog show entrants treat they're animals with love and respect.
You should feel ashamed of yourself for participating in the further disrespect of this girl by even discussing her here.
Uh....
Easy, Ken.
You are beginning to sound like that Karr guy.
:)
Whoa Ken!
Take a deep breath and read the comments again.
The discussion is around the psycho that confessed to murdering her-end of story.Nowhere is there a whisper of a hint that anyone is trashing this poor little girl. The parents perhaps, but not HER!
I kind of agree with Ken except the "you should be ashamed" swipe.
This is sooo not news, but rather an ongoing excuse to show weird kiddie porn on TV.
Now that this story has been given the defibulator paddles of Karr, and his over the top strangeness, the MSM will televise 10 more years of a four year old in a cowgirl hooker costume.
Rattfuc-
Clue in-
The story about him is the story about her. Of course no one is trashing her. Who's trashing who is irrelevant, as are any other details of the story. It's the media's regurgitation and re-invention of this story for the sake of advertising dollars that is disrespectful and shameful to her, compounded by the masses that are hungry for water cooler talk.
Just thinking...
So much of this case rests on the physical evidence recovered from the scene - ie, the DNA from a blood stain found on some of her clothing.
But what if someone planted that evidence to throw the police off onto a false trail?
How do they know the so-called DNA evidence is really valid evidence at all?
Anyone following this story is perpetuating it, making it more valuable to the media that have created it. Everytime you're channel surfing and stop at the show with the tyke in a stripper outfit, you're watching ads. That's what TV shows are for, to get you to watch the ads that are interspersed throughout them to generate revenue and profit for the network, which is what corporations are supposed to do. This is true whether it's a sitcom, a docu, the news, the weather, a mini series, or a home renovation show. Just ask Anderson Cooper, he'll tell you.
Remember the attempt to stop televising the return of Canadian soldiers bodies from war. That was out of respect for the dead and thier families.
It's the media's proper right to televise this sensationalist garbage and the viewers right to view it.
But just because it is a right, is it right?
karr needs to go free, to be the exception, in order to send the message home to the dipwad cops in charge of these things they arent dealing with a goddamm list of someone's favorite recipes. I was living in st catharines when the bernardo investigation went down. oh it went 'down' alright, they could get anything right.
How the h%@# do you lose the contents of (please Lord tell me in the name of good policeman everywhere that at least it was actually in . . .) an evidence locker????!!!!

It would not matter. If they never had any logs showing disemmination, ie distribution, they don't have much of a case.
probably 99% of pc's that surf the internet have pornography on them. much of it in many juristictions obscene and illegal.
absent prving distribution, the state has to prove intent with a possssion charge. If a person is researching the issue they are going to end up with the material on their p.c. and depending on how often they empty their cache (if ever) it is going to remain.
probably 3/4 of the people doing any level of research or simple curiosity of the Ramsey case have the poor girl's full autopsy images on their pc.
there is often an intentional blurring of the line between uploading (distribution) and downloading or possession when it comes to internet connected computers. for example in all the hundreds of suits where the recording industry attempts to enforce copyright, no one has ever been charged or sued in a civil proceeding for downloading. they use the term in press statements and it get's picked up, but if you look on findlaw and the service letters sometiems published by the target persons it is always about distribution ie uploading.
