In the US, people like actor Ron Silver have been called War Democrats -- still liberal with regards to social issues, but four-square behind the conservatives when it comes on the War on Terror.
Well, Jack Layton's recent lies -- suggesting the Afghan President Hamid Karzai wants Canadian troops out of his country when the opposite is true -- have driven one NDP blogger out of the NDP altogether.
A War Dipper?

Jack doesn't believe there are any limits to stupid ... apparently there is.
People who try to keep you out of shape must love junk food.
What Churchill once said so aptly describes Layton
"An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last."
CBCpravdas top story- do they ever get off on something else. anyway-- I dont remember Stephen having anything to do with this. maybe he should ask Dithers.
the world according to CBCpravda.
Maher Arar says he is still waiting to receive an official apology from Prime Minister Stephen Harper a week after a public inquiry cleared his name of any suspicion of terrorist ties.
Stephen Harper apologized to Chinese-Canadians even though he had nothing to do with the head tax...he did it on behalf of the Government of Canada. Not apologizing to Arar is just making Harper look petty.
Harper should not apologvize to Arar as the people who commited this hienous act are still alive.
The Chinese Head Tax was history and to apologize was proper.
Jack Layton is the most vile thing in Canada.
Ural, I found the same one. Had some fun with it too.
and speaking of events related to the middle east crisis, the great Linwood Barkley weighs in on the subject of torture. or not torture. well, here is an abridged version from the t.o. star web site:
What much of the world, and the various folks who've drafted various parts of the Geneva Conventions over the last century, consider to be torture, U.S. President George W. Bush has argued really isn't torture. Bush sees the Geneva Conventions as a vague, namby-pamby document with the intestinal fortitude of a Babysitters Club instalment, especially the parts that prohibit "humiliating and degrading treatment" and "outrages upon personal dignity." After all, if "humiliating and degrading treatment" were forbidden, you wouldn't even be able to show film of Bush reading "My Pet Goat" to schoolchildren on the morning of 9/11.
Bush has argued that these passages may limit his administration's interrogation techniques, and that the U.S. deserves some sort of pass, because if it ever did have to torture people, which of course it never would, but if it did, which it wouldn't, it would be doing it for a really good reason, if it did. And it certainly would never torture the wrong person by mistake.
Bush seems to have reluctantly made a deal with Congressional Republicans, many of whom were feeling a tad uncomfortable with the president's disregard for the Geneva Conventions, to honour them. But Bush will still want to redefine, within U.S. law, what's torture and what isn't.
Take waterboarding. This interrogation technique involves strapping the subject to a board that's submerged in water. Just as the subject feels himself drowning, the board is lifted out of the water and the individual revived. This is not only wonderfully humane, it just makes sense because it's very hard for someone to answer your questions when his lungs are full of water.
etc etc
very funny stuff.
remember, its the great george dubya 'christian family man' condoning this stuff.
I knew what was coming was B.S.when I saw the words "great" and "t.o. star" in close proximity.
What is great about lying about Bush's position?
Bush wants torture defined so it's clear what they can do and so no one claim that what is being done is torture. It's hardly surprising that no evidence of what the President said is provided in the article.
Bush has in fact instructed the CIA to apply the Geneva Convention even though its protections, by its terms, don't apply to combatants who are not in uniform.
No responsible person in the Bush administration wants to inflict pain for the sake of inflicting pain and you, Schmuck, are lying when you claim they are.
As to waterboarding I would want to knew who it has been used on and what intelligence has been produced before I offer an opinion on whether it should be used.
Is it torture? It causes no injury and isn't done for the purpose of inflicting pain. Doesn't sound like torture to me- but clearly it would be terrifying and should be used only on those who, it's known, have valuable information.
Torture is Barbaric. Should never happen. Those who practice it are sub-human. Canada is a civilized democracy where torture is unheard heard of.
Our PM cannot apologize to Arar without thoroughly going through all the O'Connor report and doing more investigation of his findings, we expect that. Arar's Legal team are looking for a large compensation and an apology from the PM at this stage would be irresponsible.
Arar must have little to worry about if all he has to do is go on National TV asking for an apology from Stephen Harper. It looks suspicously political.
It all happened under the previous Liberal government. They were unable to get him freed from prison in his Native Syria for close to a year!
There is still a lot of murkiness in this case and we can be sure Harper will not apologize until he thoroughly investigates. Frankly, don't care if he ever does, given all the cries from the Opposition for him to do so make it nothing but another diversion from more important matters.
What a stupid lot, allowing The Arar case to hijack so much time. The man is safe, he will be compensated in due course, meanwhile, let's can the crap.
Harper will not offer an apology till the compensation is worked out.The other parties know this.He is PM,but he is also an employee for Canadians and as such he needs to do whats in our interests, not Arars.
For all the LIbs whining about this,go find Paul Martin, put a camera and mic in front of his face and see if he says sorry.Of course, thats if you can find him.
I don't know enough about the case but it seems odd that Syria would jail and torture Arar if they assumed, as did Canada and the US, that he was linked to Al Qaeda. Wouldn't they welcome him instead?
Also, it's disturbing that Arar is now on the front pages of the MSM, asking for an apology from Harper, when Harper and his gov't had nothing to do with it. If Arar is focused on truth and integrity, as he claims, then, he should be asking for an apology from Chretien and Martin, i.e., from the Liberal Party. Has he been bought out by the Liberals, to use, again, in their attacks against Harper? We know the Liberals have no principles, no ethics and that corruption is their 'modus operandus' - so?
As for Layton and his idiotic remarks- well, they show a complete indifference to reality. He can't be that ignorant of reality not to know that both the Afghanistan and Sudan wars operate by Al Qaeda terrorists and their agenda of instilling a Pure Islamic, Sharia, State. This agenda is not negotiable. How can Jack ignore this fact? The Islamic law comes from the Koran, defined as the word of god and is immutable. No negotiation. So?
For Layton to insist on moving out of Afghanistan, because Canadian military are not permitted to suffer casualties in his latte-land world - and that casualties must only be suffered by people of other nations, such as the US, UK, Australia, Poland, etc - is insulting to Canadians. Layton always claims that he speaks for All Canadians. Instead, he is insulting All Canadians.
For Layton to insist on moving to Darfur, which is the same situation as Afghanistan - Islamic fundamentalists trying to take over the country - is ridiculous. The Sudan refuses to allow outsiders in; how does Jack propose to get in to hand out all those lollipops and candy? Remember, Canadians aren't allowed to suffer casualties; they aren't allowed on the front lines; they are only there for photo-ops to show the folks back home how nice Canadians are. Not how nice Canadians are to protect your family from terrorists, but how nice their maple sugar candies are.
Layton is trying to differentiate himself from the Liberals; he's worried about losing votes in latte land Toronto and Vancouver and Quebec to the Liberals. The Liberals are going to have NDP Rae as their next leader; Rae will bring in the NDP vote as well as Liberal, and remember, Rae is supported by the Chretien crowd and the Desmarais, Power Corp gang. Watch Stronach go for him, as Magna moves in also behind Rae. It's the re-emergence of The Chretien Gang.
Taliban Jack is long overdue for a visit from the Truth Fairy in his Kingdom of Oz. What makes these people tick?
Agreed, Buffalo Bob will be crowned King of the Liberals,it's a done deal a la Liberal machinations.
Chretien and his gang are the architects. Looks like our old Ami Jean wants to go down as the last great leader of Liberals for many years.
The NDP: Canada's Official Enemy PartyTM.
ctv reporting that Hedy has now dropped out & is throwing her support behind Rae.

Notice how the Chretien, Desmarais, PowerCorp, Adscam gang are setting the stage for Rae. They are playing dirty politics; they've eliminated Volpe with their accusations; now, they are eliminating Ignatieff with the same accusations, of signing up 'dead people'.
Rae is part of a Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal clique, of very wealthy, interconnected businessmen, lawyers, politicians. They are both NDP and Liberal; these include Chretien and his extensive gang of crooks; and Stephen Lewis and his new gang of UN and AIDS and Kyoto emotional Save the World types; and the Desmarais, PowerCorp. This is all pure Chretien.
Now- why Rae, apart from the fact that they are all part of the Gang? The 'Martin era' was obviously, to them, a 'blip'. The fact that this Gang stole millions from the taxpayer is irrelevant to them. And by the way, what is interesting, is that Martin is part of the Desmarais and Chretien gang; but, Chretien turned against him. This group has only one interest - power. The fact that they obtain it by control of the political system is simply a 'fact of life'. They are not interested in Canadian well-being; they are interested only in manipulating the electorate to obtain Power.
I think they thought that Ignatieff was 'their boy' but have now come to the conclusion that he's too intellectual for their manipulative tactics. So, they are getting rid of him by starting scandals.
Rae? Why him, after his disastrous era in Ontario? I don't think that this gang 'feels' anything about budgets or money; their extravagance in Ottawa is well known, the taxpayer funded meals, apartments, trips to Paris and etc.
And, there's their money laundering, their lifestyle - all via the taxpayer (including Chretien's purchase of two planes for himself), their way of doing business by handing out appointments to the senate, the judiciary, deputy ministers, ambassadors - all as favours foro their friends.
I think they see themselves as 'Canada's Natural Government'; they don't get 'budgets' and non-taxpayer funded lives. And, their focus is only on the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal corridor. And Quebec. That's it.
The West? Ignored, utterly ignored. So, it's going to be interesting. Remember, the Liberals are utterly without principles, without ethics, without morals. They have only one agenda. Power.
Those who support the effort to liberate and democratize Iraq and Afghanistan do themselves a disservice -and hand an unnecessary propaganda victory to the enemy and their political supporters like Layton- by referring to themselves as PRO WAR.
We are not pro war. No sane person wants war. We are pro peace and pro progress. We are intelligent enough to understand that the only way to defeat those who use terror and violence to deny peace and security to the citizens of those countries is to take up arms against them. We therefore support what is essentially a police action.
Those who oppose this police action are waging a propaganda war against the progress that can only come with peace and security.
And Layton and his ilk are not really anti war. They are in favour of allowing the slaughter that precipitated our involvement to continue unabated and without interference from us. They are – get ready for this- mean spirited. They pretend that if we withdraw the war will end when in fact it will only get worse.
Terry Gain - excellent comments.

Gunmen Kill Afghan Women’s Advocate
New York Times - 57 minutes ago
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Sept. 25 — A senior Afghan official specializing in women’s rights was gunned down here on her way to work Monday morning by suspected Taliban gunmen. It was the highest-level assassination ...
My Dad fought in WWII and he thought the whole American war effort up to now has been a farce. He died 2 years ago but warned me watch out for the USA and the Tories they're both crooks.
My dad ran for the NDP when I was 8, forty years ago.
I attended my first NDP convention when I was 12, 36 years ago.
I worked full-time for the NDP for eight years.
I terminated my membership in the party over it's position on the Israeli/Hezbollah conflict. Everything Layton has done since then has made me absolutely certain I will never return.
Anne I think you are a liar.
I read Rueben's "leaving the NDP" essay and it's an obvious fraud. I don't know why anyone would take it seriously.
