"The 'martyrs' are everywhere in the dahiyeh."

Michael Totten was in southern Lebanon last year. He has a photo gallery of what the place looked like prior to the Israeli action. Not a lot to recommend it, sadly.

Kate,
Thanks for this post. It is beautiful here in Vancouver tonight except for the party boats going up and down the harbour. We are so lucky to enjoy this type of personal and political freedom here in Canada. I wish everyone could understand how good we have it. The sun is going down and Canadians have to make up their minds about what kind of country their descendants are going to inherit. Happy B.C. Day, John

The juxtaposition at the border says it all: neat cultivated fields on the Israeli side and wilderness on Lebanon's.

So what's the argument? That the bombing is a form of enforced urban renewal?

Dr. Dawg asked: So what's the argument? That the bombing is a form of enforced urban renewal?"

Dr. Dawg answers his own question.

Meanwhile, the "Arabs" sit back and watch. ...-

40 killed in strike on Lebanese village

yahoo ^
BEIRUT, Lebanon - An Israeli attack on a Lebanese border village killed more than 40 people Monday, the prime minister said, raising the day's death toll to 55 in heavy fighting between Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas despite efforts toward a cease-fire. Prime Minister Fuad Saniora repeatedly broke into tears as he disclosed the attack during opening remarks at a meeting of Arab League foreign ministers in Beirut. He appealed to fellow Arab states to help a nation "stunned" by a nearly four-week Israeli onslaught that has devastated Lebanon's infrastructure and left hundreds of civilians dead. Saniora said the attack occurred...
