For blogosphere "old timers" here's a real treat Steven Den Beste makes a guest appearance.

To the utter disinterest of world media, the rockets are still flying in Gaza

This would read much better in crayon.

A CITIZEN JOURNALIST commemorates the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in the only way he knows how.

An update on blogosphere Liberal leadership endorsements. I know. The whole notion of "endorsing" a Liberal is counterintuitive, but humour them. (Hey, Ted - what t'hell happened to my vote for Volpe?)

Remember the carload of cellphones everyone laughed at?

22 separate explosions triggered simultaneously by signals from cellphones.

"We don't believe they are that cruel," Ongkorn said. A wake-up call; Islam wants to kill you, infidels.

The "they" are the ordinary, moderate Muslims of the religion of Islam who morph into Muslim Islamist terrorists. Islam, the religion of terror using all means.

22 Bombs Explode in Thailand, Killing 2
By SUTIN WANNABOVORN

BANGKOK, Thailand -- Nearly two dozen bombs exploded almost simultaneously Thursday inside commercial banks in southern Thailand, killing two people in a region bloodied by a Muslim insurgency, police said.

The homemade bombs, which were triggered by mobile phone signals, were placed in garbage bins, at newspaper stands and near seats where customers wait for service in the banks in Yala province, said Maj. Gen. Paithoon Choochaiya who heads the provincial police. At least 28 people were injured.

Authorities said two suspects were detained. A review of close-circuit video showed that some of the explosives were planted by women, police said.

Some of the apparently small devices were hidden in women's handbags or inside books carried by teenagers in school uniforms, said Lt. Gen. Ongkorn Thongprasom, the army chief in the south.

"We received some intelligence reports, but we did not anticipate it would happen inside banks, especially on the last day of the month. We don't believe they are that cruel," Ongkorn said. ...-

"While all this was happening, on Friday, August 11, three Arab-American men from Texas, Maruan Awad Muhareb, Adham Abdelhamid Othman, and Louai Abdelhamied Othman walked in to the Wal-Mart store in Caro, Michigan, a small town in “the thumb” of the Michigan mitten, and purchased 80 prepaid cell phones. A suspicious grave-yard cashier called 911 and the three were arrested. The police found 1,000 cell phones in the minivan the three were using. (This happened three days after two men from Dearborn, Ali Houssaiky and Osama Abulhassan, had bought 600 cell phones in various stores in Ohio, were charged in Ohio with money laundering in support of terrorism and soliciting or providing support for acts of terrorism.) The three men arrested in Caro said they were buying the cell phones for resale in Texas. The men charged in Ohio also said they were buying the phones to resell them. The Caro arrestees have since been released, after Federal and State officials found no connections between the men and terrorism, but not before papers in Michigan had picked up the speculation that the three men were in a plot targeting the Mackinac Bridge."

Sadly, we have no Winston Churchills evident among us this evening. We have only Donald Rumsfelds, demonizing disagreement, the way Neville Chamberlain demonized Winston Churchill.

History — and 163 million pounds of Luftwaffe bombs over England — have taught us that all Mr. Chamberlain had was his certainty — and his own confusion. A confusion that suggested that the office can not only make the man, but that the office can also make the facts.

Thus, did Mr. Rumsfeld make an apt historical analogy.

Excepting the fact, that he has the battery plugged in backwards.

His government, absolute — and exclusive — in its knowledge, is not the modern version of the one which stood up to the Nazis.

It is the modern version of the government of Neville Chamberlain.

NOT THE FOUR O'CLOCK NEWS

I sent this to the CBC ombudstoady yesterday, August 30. CBC's BRAZEN attempts to discredit its political opponents is despicabble--and they do it in broad daylight right under our noses!

The language of my letter is a little less temperate than usual. Why not? Being scrupulously "even toned" has never gotten me anywhere. And I expect the usual bromides as a result: Our reporters are fine professionals who took great pains to cover this issue in a fair, even-handed manner. Blah, blah, blah . . .

I write so there IS a paper trail. Maybe at some point in time there will be an audit at CBC of this kind of thing. I can only wish!

Here's what I wrote:

"This afternoon on CBC 2, on the 4:00 p.m. news (sic), there was an editorial piece—quite standard CBC practice these days—by Mike Hornbrook, which went out of its way to discredit bloggers and their contention that Hezbollah handed out counterfeit money to people in Lebanon.

"When the 'report' was over, the listener still had no hard evidence that there was no counterfeiting. So, what was the purpose of the piece anyway, other than to discredit bloggers (minus any proof)?

"I’m only a layperson, but I know this was a really lousy piece of journalism, Mr. Carlin. I think the correct adjective is 'yellow'.

"Among other distasteful and unprofessional aspects:

"1) Only people really affronted by the suggestion of forgery—some person from a bank, I think—were interviewed. Why was that?

"2) No bloggers who made the claim of counterfeiting were interviewed? Why not?

"3) CBC wanted to know, what about Hezbollah's reputation if it has counterfeited money? (It was mentioned that Hezbollah apparently had before. Yes or no?) That would be bad for its reputation, right? Right. All conjecture. No facts. How come?

"4) Mr. Hornbrook and the presenter seemed very conspiratorial, especially at sign off time. They sounded like the proverbial Cheshire cats, 'We sure showed up those bloggers, eh?' they seemed to be saying. Aren’t personal feelings supposed to be undetectable?

"5) At one point—I nearly fell off my chair when I heard it—Mike Hornbrook said, about the people who may have received counterfeit money from Hezbollah, 'None of them said they were told the money was counterfeit'. No kidding! So, was it or not? Why would Mr. Hornbrook say such a convoluted and ridiculous thing? And why would the CBC editor not delete it?

" I believe I know the answer to all these questions.

"I’d like to have CBC’s answers. (The real answers, please, not the usual propaganda CBC likes to try and placate the Canadian taxpayers with.)"

There is a common thread found with 'those' kinds of writers. They imagine themselves to be omnipotent, to be God, or alien to divest themselves from all the baggage of being human. (Their controling urges coming to the fore.) This way they can claim they are viewing Earth without bias, thus trying to rationalize their view as being the 'correct' one. But alas, they are not God, are not omnipotent, just a single, powerless and frustrated, semi-intelligent being who is no different from all the rest of the humanity that he despises. He hits all the current lefty-socialist talking points; wars bad, religion bad, fossil fuel bad, capitalism bad.

That piece of writing? Bad.

For the love of Canada, is there not one blogger who will support the leadership campaign of Dr. Hedy (Hot Cross) Fry?

She is the only candidate that:

- Is from Western Canada.
- Is a senior citizen.
- Is a snappy dresser “Decked out in deep purple as a "gay" nineties dance-hall girl, complete with high-heeled boots and long black gloves,”
- Has been encouraged by former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien.
- Has three ex husbands
- Works diligently to support a local book store in its fight to increase imports of lesbian pornography.

That last point alone shows her commitment to da Canadian values.

While you gaze upon this limitless supply of salt water, just remember the profound value of fresh water.

There are trucks lumbering into Tofino with supplies of bottled water due to the drawn out dry spell we have had this summer. The sudden appearance of the bottom of the water supply jug has caused sleepy Tofino town managers to declare an emergency water conservation measure.

Hotels and lodges are supposed to encourage their guests to leave early. All the usual no watering and no car washing measures are invoked of course, but the extra measure of sending guests home early is to reduce demand and avoid pulling up contaminated water.

Lets hope imported water can see the hospitality business scrape through the long weekend.

No doubt the town managers want to avoid cases of people getting *Beaver Fever* at all costs.

I had a bout of that in Cumberland once and never felt so painfully sick before or since.
If in doubt, or during any *boil-water* advisory, do not take the risk, ALWAYS drink bottled water. = TG

Kate:

As soon as you show me your Liberal Party membership card, I will put you up on the Blogger Endorsement Chart (canadiancerberus.blogspot.com/2006/08/liberal-leadership-blogger.html). That's a promise. In fact, I'll even dedicate a whole post to the announcement.

But really though, do we want such loose commitments, flip-flopping endorsements as this? Whatever happened to Bob: www.smalldeadanimals.com/archives/003915.html.

Welcome to the ``Flat Daddy" and ``Flat Mommy" phenomenon, in which life-size cutouts of deployed service members are given by the Maine National Guard to spouses, children, and relatives back home.

The Flat Daddies ride in cars, sit at the dinner table, visit the dentist, and even are brought to confession, according to their significant others on the home front.

Flat Daddy, etc. This seems to be a case where size does matter. Ask anyone who has been away from a loved one for an extended period (especially hard on kids) with only a wallet sized picture to remember them by. Now imagine if that picture was life size. Makes sense to me.

Just had an idea... after the deployed parent returns they could send the cut-out back to Iraq and really screw with the terrorist's minds.

Olbermann is agog at Nuance:

NewsBusters ^ | 8/31/06 | Brent Baker & Matthew Sheffield
MSNBC's Keith Olbermann on Wednesday night used his Countdown show to deliver a vitriolic personal attack on Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, “a reality check of Donald Rumsfeld's incendiary speech, a special comment on his attack on your right to disagree.” Olbermann concluded his program with a six-minute diatribe against Rumsfeld:

“The man who sees absolutes, where all other men

see nuances and shades of meaning,

is either a prophet, or a quack. Donald H. Rumsfeld is not a prophet.” ...-

Canada's Liberal Willy Does Nuance: Willy, are you a quack or a prophet? Nuance helps Willy keep his position with the absolute moderates.

Here is Nuance Willy, astride his moderate picket fence: (cartoon)

"Mr. Harper is proud of the fact he wasn't nuanced about this," Graham said. "Nuance has kept us in a position where we could help. Lose the nuance and you lose your capacity to act and help others. If you abuse that position, we lose our position to work with moderates."

Tom, are you saying you're incapable of viewing the world from a different perspective? What do you see our purpose as a species is? Because a great many world leaders don't seem to have any plan in mind other than getting through the next election.

Are you saying an alien or God would admire all of the bad things humans do and fight over? Why would they admire problems when solutions are obvious but we can't seem to collectively work towards them?

“…..As one very unofficial Persian commentator put it recently, it is amazing to see a country that cannot even manufacture good safety matches, going about constructing an atomic bomb.

…..It is this inability to deal forthrightly with madmen, that suggests we have lost too many of our own marbles. For why should a man with a gun fear a man with a stick?”

Corporal Iggy strategizes: Civil War.

In Canada.

In Quebec.

With clarity.

Where's nuance? ...-

In his interview with La Presse today, Michael Ignatieff suggests Canada's soldiers can come home from Afghanistan in 2009: "I don't foresee a prolongation of the mission (beyond 2009)," he says. "We have been there since 2002. We have lost valorous people. We have worked in an honourable way. I am very proud of the Canadian contribution. We will be able to withdraw in 2009 and say we have done a serious job," he says.

That's not the problem.

In a little tint box outside the main article, Ignatieff discusses what the La Presse reporter calls his "hard line" on a future sovereignty referendum. The hard line is, essentially, the substance of the Clarity Act: clear question dealing uniquely with secession, victory by a clear majority.

That's not the problem.

This is: "There must be rules in this business," Ignatieff says. "There must be clarity. Why? Because we want to avoid a civil war and I have every confidence in the world that we will avoid one," he says.

So really, since he figures it probably won't happen, there's nothing wrong with talking about a Canadian civil war, right?

Right?

I'd be a whole lot more impressed with Peter Kelly if he, for example, understood the use of the subjunctive mood, or gave any evidence of understanding that he is, in the words of a Sean O'Casey character, too young by a thousand years to know the mind of God.

So Jack says we should leave Afghanistan and abandon the children to the Taliban who blow up their schools and kill their teachers so they will never learn about rights and freedoms.

The Taliban will then commit the kids to rote control training so they will walk into shopping malls anywhere and cheerfully blast theirs and everyone*s body parts helter skelter.

This is what Jack proposes. No wonder he heads up the National Dipstick Party. = TG

Arnold does discover the truth about cleaner air however.

Swartzenagger bought a Tesla Roadster electric car recently and now is 180 degree reversed on Replican Environment policy.

The smog has cleared, and while jobs will certainly be lost in the automotive industries, jobs will also be created.

Can not put of the transition any longer. California will become a leader in clean air and smog eradication, [says Arnold]. = TG
