CNN's Kyra Phillips - skirt down, mike open.

Hitchens on the whimpering demise of Plamegate.

In his July 12 column in the Washington Post, Robert Novak had already partly exposed this paranoid myth by stating plainly that nobody had leaked anything, or outed anyone, to him. On the contrary, it was he who approached sources within the administration and the CIA and not the other way around. But now we have the final word on who did disclose the name and occupation of Valerie Plame, and it turns out to be someone whose opposition to the Bush policy in Iraq has—like Robert Novak's—long been a byword in Washington. It is particularly satisfying that this admission comes from two of the journalists—Michael Isikoff and David Corn—who did the most to get the story wrong in the first place and the most to keep it going long beyond the span of its natural life.

When a Liberal talks about a "national food policy", think "Canadian Wheat Board For Everything".

In the Be It Resolved link earlier, I posted this. I'm reposting it here, in case you missed it!

Canadian Observer pointed out that "The MSM is strongly on message that the Harper government is a failure and can hardly manage to do anything right...."

Apropos of the truth of this statement...I have just heard a news (sic) item about Prime Minister Stephen Harper on CBC's The World at Six that has made me angrier than I think I have ever been. Because they can't find anything factually bad about PMSH, who's doing an amazing job travelling all over Canada and the world, they're now resorting to total fiction and hypothesis. Total jerks. Total hacks.

Here's my letter to the CBC Ombudsman, which will explain what I'm talking about:

Dear Mr. Carlin,

Nothing on the CBC has made me as angry as a "news" (sic) item I have just heard on The World at Six. A piece on how Prime Minister Harper's gruelling schedule, travelling all over Canada and the world, could be very hard on his health. Hypothetical problems he might have with high blood pressure because of "the stress of his job" were discussed at great length, with quotes from medical personnel acknowledging how stress can negatively affect a person's health. Not one fact was offered when it comes to the Prime Minister himself, just hypothetical suggestions about a hypothetical situation: His schedule could lead to stress, which could lead to high blood pressure.

Mr. Carlin, this is a TOTAL CROCK. I have NEVER heard a similar conjecture about the health of either PM Paul Martin or PM Jean Chretien, both of whom were much older than Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The CBC's obvious motive here is to cast doubt on our Prime Minister's health by making up a fiction about how the stress of his job could be deleterious to his health.

The Canadian public has no reason to believe that Prime Minister Stephen Harper isn't completely up to the stress and hard work of being a political leader--except that, now, the CBC has suggested that he might have high blood pressure because of the stresses inherent in his job....

...I look forward to hearing from you. This item tonight is a total fiction, has no basis in fact, and is unconscionable on the part of the CBC news (sic) team.

Sincerely,

I have sent a letter of complaint to The World at Six and I have sent a c.c. of both letters to Prime Minister Stephen Harper and my MP.

Christmas at her place should be interesting this year. Wonder if the control freak will host it?

I'm just glad I wasn't drinking when I came across this.

One of my former careers involved directing tv newscasts, I'm wondering what goes on in a CNN control room.

This was a lengthy screw-up.

They had to track Kyra down to tell her to turn off the mic????

Couldn't (shouldn't) the audio operator have done that.

Too funny!!! Kyra....ya Couger!!!! LOL!!!!

Good for you BATB:

Please let us know how it goes.

It is obvious that there has been a tactic shift at the CBC. Now, instead of creating fake news a la Christina Lawand style, they are taking a more "nuanced" approach.

But, remember that their tactic realignments are obviously coming from the effect that the blogoshpere is having. So, we are winning. They are just trying to go up the middle.

They must be getting desparate right now. Their Liberal overlords are not showing any sign of a recovery...and they know that they are being scrutinized at a level never before seen...by people who have unprecedented access to the means of getting the word out to a wide audience and fast when they are caught lying.

I, for one, am heartened by what we are seeing at the CBC. The acts themselves are maddening - to be sure. But, it is evidence that even they are becoming concerned that the "natural governing party" might be out for a little while longer than they first thought.

I really hope you're right, bryceman! Thanks for the encouragement. It's the pure arrogance of the CBC's duplicity that bothers the H*ll out of me. 'Like they think we're all stupid and are going to be sucked in by their shenanigans--and shenanigans ON OUR DIME? Prime Minister Stephen Harper is doing an awesome job and they're just too depraved to have any concept...

Petulant, infantile, I'm too polite to say what I'm thinking they are...

Thanks for letting me vent. It's time for bed and it's hard to sleep with dances of a**holes in my head. :-)

I am surprised that Kyra was allowed to go on so long without any on air staff noticing.

I guess the production staff at CNN are just like the rest of us, they do not watch CNN either.

A question: Was Iggy chosen to lead the glibs BEFORE the last election because
1. They had no one left in the party with no connection to recent scandals?
2. Nobody but Iggy was prepared to accept the job?

bryceman....I really, really wish I could share in your optimism with the CBC.However,I see a much bleaker reality.
The CBC continues on unabated, massaging news stories into BOTH overt and subversive anti-Harper messages, damn near morphing them into editorials. When recently caught red-handed they successfully bury a half-assed non-apology at the very end of a broadcast.I doubt anyone not visiting political blogs heard word one about this deliberate attempt to misrepresent our PM.With much of the population lapping up this 'selective'reporting with no thoughts of such things as bias or partisanship, the rest of the MSM supplies more than enough of their own spin to validate the CBC's open dislike of conservatives.

Also,I believe you overestimate the current power of the blogosphere(sorry Kate).I submit that the vast majority of surfers visiting political blogs outside of an election campaign are already political animals. We have all witnessed 1st hand that righties/lefties support their'team'to the end.I guess my point is,you can expose the MSM's discressions throughout the blogosphere, you probably won't change many minds though. At this point anyways, the MSM still have the heavy guns.
The bottom line is simply this....
While Harper as a rookie PM has,in my opinion, done an admirable job so far, numerous polls have consistently shown that since the election about 60-65% of Canadians STILL want nothing to do with the conservatives!
THAT is a top-notch propaganda success story my friend!

The open mic gaffe by Kyra Phillips may be humorous, but I fail to see any connection or relevancy to anything other than comedy. It seems to me to be nothing more than a cheap shot at the MSM by Newsbusters. Give the person some dignity.

signaller222, do you really think if a Republican lawmaker left a mike open in the can that CNN would kill the story? You know, personal dignity, and all that? From experience, I can tell you they would not. Live, enhanced audio would air every hour for two days. They would interview psychological experts to delve deeper into these sordid family dynamics. I'm sure they would demand to know who the "mystery shitter" was. They would manufacture a story, and do their best to damage the reputation and career of the person involved.

why stop there? round them up and put them in FEMA /concentration camps

what's wrong with you people?

Way to go Commode News Network! you must be flushed with pride to have Kyra Phillips being on the scene for this (wind) breaking story.
Seriously, as a male, it has always been a mystery as to what goes on in the ladies room that requires the female of the species to go there in pairs or groups.

P.S> Wanna bet somebody in the control room gets the boot?

... why stop there? round them up and put them in FEMA /concentration camps

To the left, concentration camps are the next logical step after profiling.

SAT scores tumble for class of '06

National results released by the College Board on Tuesday showed the biggest drop in SAT scores among college-bound seniors in more than three decades.

The results come several months after numerous colleges reported surprisingly low SAT scores for this year's incoming college freshmen. The nonprofit College Board, which had said scores would be down this year, released figures Tuesday showing combined critical reading and math skills fell seven points on average to 1,021.

JM, What's your point? Something evil about retirement planning? I took a seminar when I retired from the military and learned a great deal. Unless you are a lawyer or CPA, the amount of red tape can be overwelming. Like how my military pension drops when my CPP kicks in. The more information you get the less you will just sit back and let the government take care of you (because we all know they never make mistakes).

Isn't is interesting that since the CPC brought their 5 election promises, all other parties and candidates are adopting the same premise? Kind of funny, actually.

The CBC has outlived its usefulness as a news
outlet. Its time to end its existance.

Good question, Davie.

But you have to wonder who solicited Bob Rae to run for the job.

2. someone who practically bankrupted our largest province.

Texas Canuck - "...how my military pension drops when my CPP kicks..." Since when did HR drop this from their duties & responsibilities? If this isn't in their job description, what are they doing? And what about the hundreds of webpages created by TB and all the various agencies to cover every policy, procedure and process imaginable? Isn't it all there? In fact, isn't the 'retirement planning' just another example of government employees not taking the initiative for their own retirement planning, but instead letting their employer take care of them? You need to ask yourself why employees who work for private firms, or individuals who are self-employed manage to plan and pay for their own retirement, while the government feels it necessary to spend taxpayer's money on a service that is readily available and free in many instances in the public domain.
