"BE IT RESOLVED that the NDP endorse and support the "Hands off Venezuela" campaign. The "Hands off Venezuela" is a worldwide solidarity campaign to oppose U.S. intervention and serve as a counterweight to get the truth to the people. It is supported by trade unions, students, indigenous peoples and progressive people worldwide." -- Sault Ste. Marie NDP

BBC;

The mayor of Venezuela's capital Caracas says he plans to expropriate two exclusive golf courses and use the land for homes for the city's poor.

Mayor Juan Barreto has said playing golf on lavish courses within sight of the city's slums is "shameful".

Mr Barreto, an ally of President Hugo Chavez, has been trying to address a dramatic housing shortage in Caracas.

But critics say property rights are being eroded in Venezuela, where farms and ranches have also been seized.

Three years ago Mr Chavez's left-wing government started redistributing agricultural land that it said was underused to help landless peasants.

But this is the first time officials have announced plans to expropriate privately-owned urban land to make way for public housing, says the BBC's Greg Morsbach in Caracas.

Hey now, every continent needs a Mugabe to show you how to drive a resource-rich economy into the ground! Chavez is SA's Mugabe...

Yeah, after world war II, when Germans were literaly starving, they ate grass.

The poor in Venezuela will have some very nice grass to eat now. But just one season of grass. After that, it will be brown, tasteless commie pinko grass because how can you expropriate the proper care of grass?

I suppose they can eat those cheap creamers. You know, the "edible oil product" type...

It's the NDP, so what else is new, for crying out loud!

Oh good heavens... They may change that with Hugo's 27% support. The hands off campaign is hosted in Canada at marxist.ca

CCF morphed into NDP.

Anyone remember Saskatchewan 1966?

Been tried before,folks.

They should be well on the road to economic recovery by, lets say 2057.

When we were kids we used to joke that NDP stood for New Dumb Party; guess we weren't too far off the mark, hey?

And this "progressive" thing...I see it as "progressing" up a mountain, coming to a very high cliff and crashing to the ground.

These people are very scary.

Jack Layton = Hugo Chavez

Nuff said.

What is the price of gas now in Venezuala? I heard it was 6 cents a liter last year! No wonder they are the most powerful country in "America" (beside Saskatchewan of course). Maybe I will buy some gas from there if our country can not provide it's citizens with virtually free energy...oh wait some people are already getting free gas around here...scratch that...by buddy told me that he lets his truck run all winter and never shuts it off cause gas is free! LMAO! Oh ya and here is more energy news...did anyone see Myth Busters a few days ago? Strained used grease from restaurants can be put directly into a diesel engine and runs nearly at the same rate as regular diesel.

And when Saskatchewan is completely covered with hog barns Methane will be completely free as well.

Water may become an issue but thats still free every time it rains.

Market the pork rinds and the strained grease is an unlimited supply of bio-diesel.

The prospect of unlimited wealth is within sight.

Toomy Douglas: Not Tough Enough.

Socialism: The end result of the NDP's policies are evidenced here.

Jack Layton is a pussy/wussy clone of Lenin; CAW Buzz Hargrove is Layton's wannabe Feliks Dzershinsky.

If Layton/Buzz cannot fulfill the "Final Solution, Lenin instructs: "Find tougher people".

http://www.paulding.net/bin/url.cgi/13390.18

Comrades! The kulak uprising in your five districts must be crushed without pity. The interests of the whole revolution demand such actions, for the final struggle with the kulaks have now begun. You must make an example of these people. (1) Hang (I mean hang publicly, so people can see it) at least 100 kulaks, rich bastards, and known bloodsuckers. (2) Publish their names. (3) Seize all their grain. (4) Single out the hostages per my instruction in yesterday's telegram. Do all this so that for miles around people can see it all, understand it, tremble, and tell themselves that we are killing the bloodthirsty kulaks and that we will continue to do so. Reply saying that you have received and carried out these instructions.

Yours, Lenin.

P.S. Find tougher people

Politics and politics. Is he up for election? After all, expropriating the land is just fine and dandy. But then, now that the taxes are gone from those golf courses, then where is the city going to get the money to build those houses for the poor? Who is going to pay for the roads, the services and so on?

If you reduce your population to the lowest common denominator, which sounds fine and dandy to the social justice types, the problem then arises that no-one has any surplus money. They can't pay for long term infrastructures and long term development.

Remember how Mugwabwe has in a few short years reduced a once robust and rich Rhodesia, producing large surplus crops, to a situation where its people are starving. He accomplished that by the same tactic of reducing all to the lowest common denominator, a sustenance economy. That meant that no-one has any surplus beyond daily needs, and the majority now don't even have that. No surplus, no infrastructure, no large scale farming. There are too many people for sustenance farming - and they are starving.

No Joke. NL will have the largest outmigation in its history this year. At a time when oil is above 70$/BBL their hasnt' been an exploratory well drilled in over 18 months.

Apart from Terence Corcoran and a few others, no one is making note of it nationally and certainly noone is in NL where fear that speaking out against DW will bring retribution is reaching levels not seen since the JS depotism of the late 60's.

I love the resolution re: hands off US and Canada. Like Canadian Politicians have any say or sway in Venezuala. The US is the big Boogie man and they aren't reqally doing anything but watching Venezuala derail.

IT's not enough the NDP feel they run Canada but now they think they can do anything about Venezuala.

Delusional

apologies for the double post - don't know what I did wrong...

Dead on, Warwick

Shades of Zimbawe. And, we all know how that ended - from a food exporting country to near starvation. Rev up the class/racial warfare, throw some crumbs out to the poor masses...the template never changes. What's bad for Venezuela is good for Swiss bankers.

Expropriated from this successful ruse, the class warfare part and playing racial/ethnic groups against each other, our own NA Dems/Libs work out of the same playbook. Didn't Cindy Sheehan, useful idiot to the left, not recently have a big photo-op with this thug? And Jimmy Carter, one of the biggest just plain idiots out there, verified the elections there.

Democracy loving people can never let down their vigilance. SAT scores, it was just revealed, had another big decline, meaning we have dumber 18 year old sheeple exposed to the marxist nutballs on campus.

I've been dropping a lot of "qoutes" lately, hopefully they aren't getting to annoying, but with the way the word "progressive" is casualy thrown around by the Left, I really think it would help for the dippers out there to consider this. It certainly seems to apply to this little tangent the NDP is on.

“We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.”~ C.S. Lewis

Chavez, Layton, NDP, world-wide 'solidarity'[tm] - simply 'Progressives'[tm] seeking 'Social Justice'[tm] by prosecuting the 'War On Poverty'[tm] - which we all know will be won when everbody is poor.

Nationalizing golf courses will probably be in the NDP's next policy platform.

Nationalizing the oil industry is all the rage over at the Rabble Babble so golf courses can't be far behind.

Of more interest is this bit of pap
http://www.agoracosmopolitan.com/home/Frontpage/2006/08/21/01224.html

It comes complete with references to quislings, nazis and of course the incarnation of the ghost of one Tommy Douglas himself.

It appears the NDP's proposed policy platforms may be an attempt by Jack to put out some fires on his left flank.

Good luck riding herd on that flock of delusional idiots Jack!!

Solving poverty by punishing the better off - what a splendid idea. It's worked so well everywhere else it's been tried.

"Underused land" might well mean that the owners were husbanding the land - letting fields go fallow and so on. In other words, not asking more from the land than it could give.

People who don't own the land don't have much reason to care for it. The result in other people's paradises have been disasterous: destroyed farmland followed by starvation.

It will be up to the evil capitalist countries to donate food to stave off a tragedy and (I bravely predict) without much thanks in return.

Re: the NDP

It is soooo easy to sell a feel-good socialist platform to the naive when you know yourself you will never actually have to'walk the talk'.

And so it starts...or rather, continues in Chavez's venezuela.

Fucking dippers.

Won't they have to include a "hands off Syria" amendment, too, to go along with Hugo's latest media event?

"Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has pledged to stand by Syria in opposition to what he said was US "imperialist aggression" in the Middle East.

He said he and Syria would strive to build a world free of US domination."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/5298178.stm

I suppose the Dippers will be only to happy to support this new world order.

It's fun to watch these idiot socialists, they’re the same the world over. Born dumb die dumb. Should we start a pool on which month in which year they will need help feeding themselves.

Getting rid of golf courses is the only good idea they have ever come up with. Especially when the course in plain site of the affluent and I played like a union leader today.

Farm subsidy, socialist style.

Well Hugo DOES idolize Castro. Is it any surprise that he's now using the exact same methods that Castro adopted when he first got into power? Castro set an excellent precedent. Heck, he could even write his own self-help book: "How to Seize Power and Maintain a 6 Decade Tyranny for Dummies".

Chavez, Venezuela.

It will all end in tears.

Or a hail of bullets.

Notwithstanding all the sterling efforts of a few countries like Chile, Argentina and Brazil to get a grip on themselves and act like grown-ups, it's the traditional South American way.

"Dr. David Suzuki .........then he jetted his way back to Vancouver and took a car on the three oil powered ferries back to Cortez Island."

Quadra Island man, Quadra!
Cortes is still Dr. Fruitfly free zone.

(And how many ferries he rides is nobodies business but his own.)

I couldn't be happier with the NDP finally standing up and taking a solidarity stand with their comrade, Hugo Chavez.

By taking this stand it will make it more difficult for the moon-bats to call Chavez a "right-winger-using-the-good-name-of-socialism-to-gain-credibility" after he is exposed as a typical genocidal left-wing fascist. Just like Milosevic and all the others that have preceded him.

America wants to protect American intrests which have nothing to do with demoracy.

"America wants to protect American intrests [sic]"

So let me get this right: you're implying a country would actually want to protect its own interests?

I see...

I should say USA. One of these days the USA going to piss off a country as powerful as they are and the war will be at their door steps. They are bullies that's for sure. Always picking on Venezuela,Honduras,Mexico,Canada,Iraq,Iran all the dangerous threats to the USA. You people on this blog are just Butt stupid. You couldn't organize a dog fight. You scare the hell out of honest Canadians like myself who figured out the rich and powerful(10%) not you, who really control the rest of us don't give a shit. You and I are expendable. It's little shots like you who think if you kiss ass these people you'll be a big shot.....Not in this lifetime.

I see the USA is putting a head tax on Canadians of 5.00 per airline ticket who travel to the states. I hope you blogging tories or whatever you want to call yourselves can soft sell this to Canadians. You tories should just move to the states so we don't feel like we're being screwed by our own Gov't/ This adds up to 77 million dollars a year from Canadians. Every year it's another knife in the back. I don't mind getting screwed but how about a little bit of kissing first?? What's it going to take to get us to sign off free trade?? Solution?? Don't give them goddamn Americans any of our tourist dollars.

ok4ua

Why would we move to the USA? The Tories out number the socialists in Canada by at least two to one, always have, always will. Perhaps YOU should move to Venezuela.

Hey Trent you think this 5.00 per ticket tax is OK? Where's your head?? Up your ass?? America does whatever it wants to us and our Fuhr does nothing. He gives guns to border guards!! So guards will get killed? We've never had one killed yet. But I think that will change. Gives pep talks to to the army!! They're young scared kids. More RCMP???? or not?? 10 year old kids in criminal court? I see more and more we are becoming a military state not unlike Russia?? USA?? North Korea?? When the hell is this trigger happy fool and his party going to quit?? You have no idea what your wing nut leader will do next. And you talk about freedom. A motorcade of black cars when he comes to Regina??? Secret meetings?? A muzzled caucus?/What is this?? The KGB Tory style. Sounds very repressive to me but what does a NDPer like me know?? More than a piss ant like you knows.

ok4ua,

You sure sound angry, and very crazy, but you've been told that before. $5.00 to get into the US, well you will never have to pay it because you hate the US. BTW, you have to pay a $10 airport tax before you can leave or enter Canada by air.

But really ok4ua, what upsets you the most is that Canadians overwhelmingly continue to reject socialist policies and ideas every single election. It just burns in your soul that you can't get the power over others that you so desperately crave. I am sure you just can't wait for the day when "Canadians finally wake up and vote for their own best interests" which are really just YOUR best interests. You must dream of what you will do to the "right-wingers" when you somehow achieve power. I am sure a very "progressive" agenda of wealth redistribution will be at the top of the list. Perhaps a re-education camp for the right-wingers might also be in order? Robert at My Blahg has already openly admitted he supports a violent revolution in Canada if democracy continues to suppress his plans.

We all know what you want, and we only need to watch Hugo Chavez to see how it would play out.

I will do nothing to the Tories they will do it to themselves as always. Communism that works???
Hutterites. "I am not crazy I'm only interested in freedom"

The 5.00 per ticket is a made in America tax on all travellers to the states. And you think that's OK!!?? I suppose the billion they kept from the lumber tariff is fair also?? Why the hell do I bother with you Tories. With allies like you who needs enemies.
