As a loving parent, I hope the task team shoot the miserable bastard dead.

Excellent news. It will still take a long time for that horror to fade.

In the mean time, it's more than time to take the "justice" system to task for its repeated failure to keep dangerous predators locked up.

Everyone from the judges to the shrinks to the parole board to the former Liberal and Progressive Conservative governments should be investigated for negligence and jailed if found guilty.

The government (in the broadest sense of the word) should consider itself damn lucky that isn't my kid. I'd be dangerous to them if it was.

As for child molesters, I recommend chemical castration. I'd use boiling acid. I'd follow that up by blinding (so they can't see any kids,) hobbling (so even a toddler could outrun them,) and cutting off their fingers (so they can't touch any kids.) After that I'd still lock them in a small cage for the rest of their lives. In this case, the same should be done to the people who let this creep out of jail. Accountability time.

This is a relief. I'm all for revising the justice system. Sexual offenders, especially ones that prey on children, need to be kept in jail -- permanently. I don't care if they are mentally ill. They need to be kept away from anyone that they could harm. This is one time that I think I agree with the majority on SDA.

Warwick:

Don't be shy, tell me what you really want LOL.

I like your style.

As an aside:

Whitmore tends to do things like this to get recaught. I think he's more comfortable in jail where he has spent the majority of his life.

The only reason the molester is not in jail longer is because he hasn't killed anyone. He should get 25 years for this latest crime. Kidnapping and I hope he didn't touch the boy.He should be declared a dangerous offender and locked up forever. My dad worked in law enforcement. Molesters are locked up in a protective wing of jail. You put them in general population they'd be killed. He is untreatable.

Living in Ontario I've kind of followed this loser, here are some press releases.

"Living in Ontario I've kind of followed this loser, here are some press releases."

The sad part is that I swear I recognized his picture from the last time he was was in the paper after getting arrested for child molestation, and it wasn't that long ago. Yeeeesh. Anyway, I'm sure this has nothing to do with the topic at hand whatsoever, but, um:

"B.C. RCMP wants fewer crime stories in the media
CBC - Monday, July 31, 2006

The RCMP in B.C. want to reduce the number of crime stories reported by the media in an effort to ease public fears.

An internal RCMP report
obtained by the Vancouver Sun says the public has an irrational fear of crime because of the large number of crime stories that are reported.

According to the report, many of those stories are the result of RCMP news releases or comments from media relations officers.

As a result, the force is now reviewing its policy on how often information is released and how quickly officers respond to calls from reporters."

Good news for the family. Hopefully both youngsters won't be totally scarred for the rest of thier lives because of this waste of skin. Whitmore better get "dangerous offender" status so he never sees the streets again. Will any of those John Howard Society morons be sending an apology to these boys families?

Last night I emailed my MP and Vic Toews (Toews.V@parl.gc.ca)and demanded the government take immediated action to ensure this can never happen again. And I also agree with Warwick's proposed punishment, although I would finish the animal off after he had thoroughly suffered. Why should we pay to keep sick freaks like him alive?!

This about Whitmore at TheStar.com:

"Earlier this year, Mounties in Alberta issued a news release to say Whitmore would visit Morinville and St. Albert, near Edmonton, from June 2-5 of this year.

"Cpl. Al Fraser, an RCMP spokesman in Alberta, said Whitmore had been authorized to visit the area in early June. He was then supposed to return to Chilliwack but never did."

Why wasn't something done--i.e. a nationwide alert, or at least an alert in Alberta--when Whitmore didn't return to Chilliwack?

This guy has a history of abducting and sexually molesting children along with a history of incarceration by our "justice" (sic) system which has kept him in jail for: 1 year and 4 mos., 4 and a half years, 1 year, and 3 years.

Hey, judges!! There's a pattern here. No sooner is Whitmore released from jail than he's back abducting another child and molesting them. IT'S TIME FOR THIS TO STOP.

Obviously, Whitmore is not going to be rehabilitated and needs, for everyone's sake, to be permanently incarcerated.

Being a parent, my heart goes out to the children who've been sexually abused and their parents: It's a long road to recovery for them and their families and there are permanent scars that will probably never go away.

Enough is enough. Put Whitmore away for good.

Now that you've all vented here at SDA, write a coherent letter to your MP, MLA, Justice Minister, demanding the stiffest sentence possible.

Mention that you voted for him/her, but will reconsider if this guy gets another 5 year/ out in 24 months type of sentence.

Personally, I'd hang the S.O.B.

stuff from the mayerthorpe Roszko case.the similarities are chilling.the "justice system" has been deliberately broken.

from a CBCpravda story.

In 1994, he was charged with sexually assaulting a young male, and later spent two and a half years in prison.

In September 1999, there was yet another weapons charge, which was dropped.

It was followed by a psychiatric profile done in 2000 that said Roszko refused to accept responsibility for his crimes and was preoccupied with legal proceedings. It recommended keeping him locked up.

I've just had a disturbing thought. Have they changed the age of sexual consent to 16 yet? No, I don't think so. OMG! The one lad, Jordan, who is still with him is 14. That makes it legal for Peter to have his way with him. Damn. The crown will have to prove that Peter held him against his will (God willing he's still alive) before they can nail that bastard with wrongful confinement and sexual assault. I suppose this is why an amber alert was not issued for Jordan. Something that should have been done whether it was known that he was with a sexual offender or not.

Boy, the '90's were indeed an ugly time in social engineering. Thanks Svend Robinson. Whatever comes of this drama will be your legacy of societal depravity cast upon us.

Although I don't disagree with Warwick's sentiment, you used to be able to buy (I'm dating myself here) a 50 round box of .22 ammo for about $2.49 at Canadian Tire(tm). It only takes one when placed correctly. That's a really cheap solution to a problem like Whitamore.

er, 'Whitmore'.

A man like this is of absoluely no use to society and should be executed forthwith.

What a fascinating panorama of views here ... Fergy says, "I hope the task team shoot the miserable bastard dead." ... Warwick says, "I recommend chemical castration. I'd use boiling acid. I'd follow that up by blinding ... hobbling ...cutting off their fingers ... lock them in a small cage for the rest of their lives." ... Konde says, "I would finish the animal off after he had thoroughly suffered." ... dmorris says, "I'd hang the S.O.B." ... The more moderate suggest that he be put away forever. Has anyone considered that this poor bastard is sick, needs help and hasn't been able to find it or have help brought to him? Maybe we should focus on this instead of digging deep into our vengeful selves.

yep, andy, youve put your finger squarely on the problem.
no doubt he is sick.
Whats the cure?

lee,

I wish I knew. I'm an economist, not a doctor! I do believe that the solution is NOT killing him or or torturing him. At best, until someone knows, keep him away from us, like Olsen (Olson?) or Bernardo. Having said that, I think if I were either of these guys, I'd like someone to shoot me. Maybe locking them up is the best kind of torture?

"Negotiating teams are on the scene"... What could Whitmore 'demand' in order for the 14 year old to free?...scary...and yes ...the age of consent will be factored in here.I know it was discussed but does anyone recall if the legislation was passed?

"I do believe that the solution is NOT killing him or or torturing him..."

I agree with you, Andy. Personally, I'd be perfectly happy to see guys like this locked up until such time as it is an absolute certainty that they no longer pose a threat to other children. And with many pedophiles, that may be for life (works for me).

And interestingly enough, for many long term inmates, being incarcerated is not such a bad deal. They get used to the routine, adapt to life inside, and get institutionalized to a certain extent.

And, Schwarze Tulpe:

God knows that I have never been a fan of that weazel Svend Robinson. However, many people blame him for lowering the age of sexual consent to 14, and that is not correct. Fact is, the overall age of sexual consent in Canada has never been greater than 14, except for anal intercourse (and Svend was instrumental in reducing the age for that). Until the late 1800's or early 1900's, the overall age for sexual consent was 12, then it was raised to 14. There were some restrictions dealing with those who could be influenced by authority figures etc, but it has never been greater than 14.

Let the parents have him.

I feel so sorry for these boys and their families.

I think for guys like Whitmore, they should get the locked up for the minimum or for good and to get out they have to agree to castration or stay in jail.

After reading the Globe and Mail link I have to say it is unfortunate they printed the quote from the dealership that sold Whitmore a tire;
"We're just sick," said Kevin White, owner of the local Chrysler dealership, who sold Mr. Whitmore a tire on Friday morning.

"I can think of a couple of occasions when the aboriginal boy was alone. Why didn't he say something? I just wish the 14-year-old boy said something and we wouldn't be here now."

The poor kid was probably blackmailed or threatened. A pedophile's trick.

I saw a segment on America's Most Wanted by an expert that said you have to empower your kids to let them know if they are in a situation like this, it's OK to NOT listen to the adult, and to do everything they can to escape, making as much noise as possible. Do not believe the person if they tell you somwething bad will happen to your family if they don't listen. Those are the parts I remember. I'm sure if you visit their website there will be a video or category on the subject.

My little brother is part of the RCMP setting up the perimeter. I really hope they let the boys take out their frustration on this clown. My brother says good officers are considering transfering out of the RCMP to city forces because of the red tape and lack of equipment. Its time for PMSH to step up and make this right.

Whats the cure?
Sex Predators Can't Be Saved....
"Chronic sexual predators have crossed an osmotic membrane. They can't step back to the other side—our side. And they don't want to. If we don't kill or release them, we have but one choice: Call them monsters and isolate them."

www.vachss.com/av_dispatches/disp_9301_a.html

This is going on 5 km from my house. Thank god they have caught this sick bastard, and here's to having Kipling and area in the news for paper clips again, as opposed to repeat offending pedophiles.

A lawyer with Beyond Borders told CTV-Winnipeg that there is currently no minimum sentence for sexual assault on a minor. They have a poll should there be mandatory min. sentences?(www.cky.com).

I visited beyondborders.org and found a link to our Sex offender registry re: the loopholes in it (thanks to Anne McLellan?) and another link to the age of consent laws, saying it should be raised to 16. Thanks to Harper it is now. Also, the Lawyer contacted by the station said there should be minimum mandatory sentences for sexual assault of any kind on a minor. I believe Vic Toewes is on that too. I bet it gets quick passage this fall.

he surrendered to police after releasing the second kid.

Just found a link to a T.O. Sun Editorial dated Aug.1 It asks;

"Why? How could any decent person recommend that someone like Whitmore be free? He is supposedly "banned for life" from contact with children. How's that working so far? "

In answer to the first part; ask a Liberal. Maybe start with Anne McLellan considering she was Justice Minister from '97 to '02 and handled the Child pornography file so well. In answer to the second part; it isn't, but just wait. The current government will get it done.

Watched the RCMP briefing on TV; it's appalling that the Mounties are so budget strapped that the spokeswoman/person had to wear her dad's hat.......3 sizes too big.

no charges so far with regard to the 14 year old. no doubt there is something about the age of consent to come out about this yet.

maybe screaching Anne McLellan, Svend or uberhomo Bill Graham would like to comment?

Excellent. Now lock him away.

All you Liberal-haters out there seem to forget that Mulroney was the boss for awhile too.

I still haven't figured out if/why prisons aren't more self-sufficient...I don't believe in the death penalty but I can't stand the fact that prisoners get such a sweet ride. If they choose to live outside the rules of society, they should be fending for themselves away from society. And Whitmore might be able to get a good dose of reality.

My *conservative* estimate is that locking the fellow up for life (what ever that means in Canada) will cost the taxpayers at least $5M assuming $200K/year (probably too low). Would it not be cheaper just to execute him? At least we won't force the victims to go through the entire ordeal all over again in 25yrs.

I know we can't execute him, but what is this point of keeping people like this alive? There is no place for them in society and they can't be rehabilitated.

When I see stories like this one, it makes me think that the judges handing out these obscenely light sentences are part of an untouchable pedophile cabal. As such, they are very reluctant to punish one of their own.

Sure, it sounds crazy. But then again, truth is stranger than fiction.

Here's an idea for the next CBC reality show: Round up all free roaming pedophiles, the "slap-on-the-wrist" Judges and their children in Canada and put'em all on Ellesmere island for a summer. The goal would be to come off the island undefiled. CBC could air it Wednesday nights at 10:00; bump the National to 11:00.

Paul,

"All you Liberal-haters out there seem to forget that Mulroney was the boss for awhile too."

No I didn't. I said:

"Everyone from the judges to the shrinks to the parole board to the former Liberal and Progressive Conservative governments should be investigated for negligence and jailed if found guilty."

Note the inclusion of Progressive Conservative? That would be Mulroney.

The PC party was bad but not a small fraction as bad as the Chrétien/Alan Rock/McClellan/Martin crowd of soft-on-crime excuse-the-criminals-cause-they're-the-real-victims pantywaists.

The Liberals are 10 times as bad as the PC party was and the PC party isn't acceptable.

Was that unequivocal enough? lol.

"Would it not be cheaper just to execute him?"

Probably not. Last time I looked (and it was several years ago) the US experience with death sentence cases was as follows: An average of 12 years of state-funded appeals costing approximately $7 million per inmate.

That's cause we let lawyers drag it out.

There are too many damn appeals to go through. The system needs checks and balances to ensure justice but not 7MM USD worth...
