36 Replies to “Help Push Preston Over The Top”

  1. The greatest prime minister we never had is now prime minister. Preston Manning is a similarly decent man.
    Is this on topic?

  2. EBD I agree to that. I liked Preston though but I didn’t think he was PM material. Preston was a oppertunist and Harper is a Realist althoug I still liked Preston Manning.

  3. I entered political activity because of Preston Manning and I retired shortly after he did, although he continues to work for democracy and I continue to hope (and pray).
Preston Manning is a man of vision. You might not have liked some things about him, but very few polticians can also be called a statesman as he can. And, no, leftists, I don’t mean “statesman” as in United States-man lackey. Preston Manning was, and is, his own man, interested in the higher good…principled.
Stephen Harper had a great mentor.

  4. Agreed, EBD, and also Moose Javian: Prime Minister Stephen Harper is the man of the hour, and thank God he’s our PM at this crucial time in our world’s history: “Interesting times,” indeed.
Preston Manning is definitely a man of principle, a statesman, and PMSH is fortunate to have had him as a mentor. It is good, in the case of both PM and SH, to have men in politics who are in it not for the glory or the financial gain (tell me again how it is that le p’tit gars de Shawinigan has become a multi-millionaire??) but to offer their considerable gifts to help us live in a country that will benefit all Canadians.

  5. Fascinating. I didn’t know that the Manning Centre was currently involved in such projects as:
    “Issue Campaigns
    * Support for Fireweed Democracy Project campaign to address the democratic deficit.
    * Support for a Democratic Reform Roundtable in Mont-Tremblant (April 6-9, 2006).

    * Support for “Blogging Tories” initiative.www.bloggingtories.ca”

    http://www.manningcentre.ca/whatwedo/currenprojects
I’d love to hear the story behind that, lol…

  6. That Romanow even made it past the first round boggles my mind. His votes aren’t coming from rural Saskatchewan.

  7. I think it is funny that right wingers can pretend that Presto Manning was PM – what a joke. I even laugh when I think about how Elwin Hermanson had Presto waiting in the wings during Saskatchewan Election Night – 2003. Manning was going to be introduced to the ‘victorious’ Saskatchewan Party crowd as the leader of the Transition Team. Guess what: The Saskatchewan Party LOST – The Reform Party LOST every election they tried – so have fun with your little make believe exercise. Oh and enjoy your time with Harpo in Sussex Drive because after his disastrous foreign policy experiment – it’s all over for him too!

  8. Bob uuuhhh, Bob uuhhhh, Bob uuuhhhh, uuuhhhh, Stanfield.
    * I remember how ANNOYING it was listening to this guy on the news.
    * !!!
hey Bob baby, PRACTICE the likely answers AHEAD OF TIME. and drop that really really annoying mannerism you have.
conservatists at the time gave the spin about he was being ‘thoughtful’ and ‘thorough’ in his answers but I notice they havent had one with that style since.

  9. manning was a clone of the old man, NOT the ‘principled man of vision’ promoted here.
the earliest pic Ive seen of manning the younger is him standing beside manning the elder, mimicing the EXACT stance and hand positioning of dear old dad.
from an early age he marketed himself to fit the image he knew would get votes. he is a shallow caricature cleverly positioning the idealized image for public consumption.
    ark ark (crack)

    Hey Leftdog:
Did you note that the link went to Calgary Grit??
Not exactly a “right wing” blog.
A good read none the less.
    Cheers

  11. Robert J–you have read Manning correctly–I would like to push him–off a cliff–where he expected all us Reformers to follow him to the UA. This man would not know democracy if it bit him in the ass–he is a self-centered, egomaniacle, despicable person. Canada is so blessed that he DIDN’T become PM–democracy to him is do what he tells you to.

  12. Robert J & george, Have you ever met the man? Talked to him in person? You two are obviously afraid of an honest politician. But then you two may have been Trudeau puppies, cheering as he piruetted behind the Queen and told Canadians what he thought of them (finger).

  13. IMHO, jeff, bob, leftdog, Sock Puppet etc. etc. is an American troll.
She is grabbing stuff about Canadian politics and the military off the internet in order to troll sda.

  14. Conservatives here are starting to live in a bizzaro world compared to liberals. Both dream like in nature and both totally ridiculous.
Kate, what were you thinking about when concocting this nebulous topic?
Preston’s destiny is exactly how it played out and it’s what he got!

  15. i wanted to vote for Paul Martin. The Paul Martin that was hyped for 5-10 years but never showed up.
    🙂

  16. Here’s a nightmare headline for you. bob and leftdog should like this.
“Bob Rae elected PM of Canada.”
“Hilary Clinton becomes Pres of U.S.”
Goodbye North America! Rae only destryed Ontario. Now he’s willing to destry Canada

  17. Ernest Manning may well be the best Premier which any Canadian province has ever had. Whether Preston Manning would have made a better PM than Robert Stanfield is hard to say. However, it is easy to say that either would have been better than what we the people chose to elect.

  18. Preston had no control over his “tell-it-like-it-is” caucus.
Only a fool would believe he could be PM
He couldn’t control his own party’s agenda.
That tells me he would have been a lousy PM.

  19. yo, tex: I saw right thru turdeau before I could vote.
and when I could it sure as * wasnt for that pompous closet fascist.
I was going south on merritville highway into welland once and saw a bunch of mounties on motorcycles up ahead and realized it was turdeau’s limo.
I swung onto the shoulder just in time to hop out and give a huge *ing finger salute. gawd that felt good.
here’s what Ive been plastering all over town with additional commentary to make sure the electorate get the correct impression of lieberalism:
3W dot collectionscanada dot ca/primeministers/h4-3382-e dot html
so how the * does that make me a fan of pierre elliot turdeau just because manning never had a chance to out turd him?

  20. Holy Seriousness Batman:
This is like fantasy hockey and football series.
    Treat it like it is.

  21. Say Leftdog, re: “Calgary Grit – not really a ‘leftwing blog’ either – sorta wishy washy liberal”
Well, of course. What other types of Liberals are there????

  22. I can give you the worst Prime Minister that “WAS” Actually there were three.
    1. A “Turd”
    2 A Cretin
    3. Ap”paul”ling

  23. Texas Canuck–yes–I knew Manning and worked for him until he threatened us with removal of membership for not following him blindly. If I remember correctly, his exact words were (regarding those of us who didn’t accept his destruction of Reform)–“Mark them well and leave them behind”!!! Sounds like democracy to me–follow blindly or get out of the way–no thinking allowed!

  24. This nation would be a much different, much better place if Robert Stanfield had been elected PM instead of turdeau. Presto would have been O.K. but IMO we got the BEST PM this country has ever elected when we voted for PM Stephen Harper.
The worst one left is Romanov – he would think he was Czar (in the vein of Stalin). He would likely hire another Igantief to be his education minister and he would hire Rascritian to give him advice. What a horrible thought!

  25. Why do commentators persist in refering to Manning as “principled”? He was a cold-eyed political opportunist who double-crossed his faithful supporters because he thought that his dead duck Alliance was the path to 24 Sussex Drive. Smooth talker though. He got what he deserved.

  26. the only time I ever (grimace) wanted to see a reform candidate voted in, was the time big mouth copps was forced to keep a promise and call a $100,000 byelection because she couldnt keep another promise to dump the gst.
it was the time BQ was official opposition but the reformers were 1 seat behind.
east hamilton had the choice to put big mouth back in and reward her big mouth, or bite the bullet and put a reformer in and boot BQ out of the enviable opposition role.
aaaaaand what do you think all those doofus blue collar east hamiltonians did? yep, copps in for another term.
they only had to do it once, both to send a message to the big mouth and a tactical victory against separatists, but they were too STOOOOPID to do it.

  27. more fodder for the harperists to chew on:
Stephen Harper’s first and third questions in QP yesterday:
Hon. Stephen Harper (Leader of the Opposition, CPC): Mr. Speaker, during the trip to Ireland it was more than apparent that the victims’ families were not satisfied with the government’s handling of the Air-India issue, and neither are most members of Parliament.
On April 12 a majority of the members of the House voted to direct the government to immediately hold a public inquiry into the Air-India issue.
Will the Prime Minister honour the will of the House, yes or no?
Hon. Stephen Harper (Leader of the Opposition, CPC): Mr. Speaker, it is amazing that when they were talking to Jean Chrétien’s lawyers, unlike the hep C or Air-India cases, they were able to get immediate action and immediate agreement.
    [Translation]
I have a third example. On November 2, 2004, the House passed a resolution calling on the government to recognize the existence of the fiscal imbalance. Almost eight months later, the Prime Minister still has not reacted.
Is the Prime Minister close to admitting that the fiscal imbalance exists?
Just a few hours after making these comments, Stephen Harper declared that the Same Sex Marriage legislation lacked legitimacy because a majority of federalist MPs opposed it. For anyone interested, the vote on the Air India inquiry passed by a 172-124 margin. Since the Bloc supported it, that means that…uh-oh…a majority of federalist MPs voted against the motion.
The fiscal imbalance (which, by the way, is the number one pet issue of the separatists) motion was carried by a 165-128 vote. Since the Bloc supported it, that means that…oh crap…a majority of federalist MPs voted against the motion.
So there you have. An hour before he screamed about a bill every court in Canada and a majority of MPs support as lacking legitimacy because it will pass on BQ support, Harper was urging the government to accept non-binding votes that were passed…thanks to the separatists. At least Martin will usually go a few days between hypocritical contradictions – Harper pulled it off in a matter of minutes.
opportunist specialists come on down !!!!

  28. Where was George W Harper during the AIDS conference? I hope the people of Canada vote out the Tories in the next election. There has never in the past 80 years been a Tory Prime Minister worth the powder to blow him up.
