She knows how to lay waste her critics;
“I’d always suspected that Sean Penn was the type of “man” who plays with dolls, but I assumed that he liked the life-sized ones you have to inflate first.”
An interview with Ann Coulter, at Right Wing News
Update: Drudge reporting “EXCLUSIVE: ANN COULTER SCORES #1 BOOK WITH 48,408 SOLD, ACCORDING TO BOOKSCAN… TIM RUSSERT ‘FATHERS’ 33,563 COPIES… ANDERSON COOPER 29,447… DEVELOPING…”

My favourite part of the interview –
John Hawkins: Do you think evolution, intelligent design, or something else should be taught in schools?
Ann Coulter: I would say teach them the one that has the strongest scientific basis to it, and if there’s any time left over at the end of the day you could also teach them about the theory of evolution.
Ann Coulter is the undisputed master of the one line zinger.
Ann Coulter certainly knows how to get publicity for her latest book.
What I like best about Coulter is her ability to drive people off the deep end. She is the Don Cherry of US politics – I don’t think she even believes everything she says. But she’s intelligent, glib, attractive in a tall blond I’m sexist kind of way (Get Offended Alert). And that is an entertaining combo. I read her stuff solely to get the zingers, but lets face it hyperbole is a great tool when used properly, and she does that.
From todays (June 14/06) The Ottawa Citizen-
“Coulter-Carlin Clash Likely on Leno’s Tonight
Tonight host Jay Leno might want to consider wearing referee stripes on tonight’s show when Ann Coulter and George Carlin are his guests. Coulter, the acid-tongued conservative with a new book out, and Carlin, the quick-witted, anti-establishment comedian who’s in the voice cast for the new animated film Cars, could produce serious fireworks for Tonight.”
LOVE or HATE her? LOVE her, notwithstanding her frequent over-the-topness. Makes me laugh out loud a lot and gasp, “can she really say that” (think of her delightfully vicious and well-deserved put down of the 9/11 bush-bashing widows). Amd migod, yes, the zingers. I drove a liberal “friend” quite nuts with my praise of Coulter and joked “I wanted to be whipped by Ann Coulter”. Your worst nightmare: being on the other side of a debate with Coulter. She’s outlandish-dominatrixy but make no mistake about it, brainy brainy brainy.
Watching Jay Leno is a waste electricity in my view.
I will make an exception tonight though, because one of his guests is Ann Coulter.
Now if only she was Canadian eh?
I don’t really follow her but I laughed out loud over her “Oil war? How does Hollywood thinks its drugs are delivered” comment.
Having never read one of her “books” I was living blissfully unaware than Coulter was “brainy”. This is promising. Apart from the over-the-top ‘please buy my book’ soundbytes I haven’t heard much that could be considered intelligent ‘political thought’. I also watched a painful interview where she insisted that Canada had fought in Vietnam, to the dismay of the Canadian interviewer. That Commonwealth country Coulter was searching for? Australia. “Brainy, brainy, brainy” indeed. I kinda figure she is a embarrassment to conservatives and I would hope most of my fellow conservatives would agree.
11:15am …brainy, brainy, brainy…? Do you have a line on something she’s written or said that the rest of us don’t?
She is one very smart woman and she cracks me up. I laughed out loud reading her interviews. Over the top? Definitely but with humour.
Er, that should have just brainy, not “brainy, brainy, brainy”. I mean to hold to the three brainies for Coulter, what wud I guy do trying to describe Einstein? Mozart? I mean yud have to go on for pages and pages and pages.
Well, ya know, ignorance (say about Canada and Vietnam, or Australia, and remember when Bush didn’t know the name of some country leader!) doesn’t actually mean NOT brainy. It just means not knowing something.
Recall, this has always been the Bush-Bash problem. I mean like many Americans (it’s a very very very large country they live in) Bush suffered from (using Frum’s term) incuriousness. Incurious also doesn’t mean, NOT brainy.
Now let’s face it, Gore and Kerry seem “brainier”, but in fact the Bush-man is evidently brainier IQ wise.
“Books” in quotes. A hoot!
Hint: Coulter deliberately portrays herself as a populist not as a “brain”. Eggheads don’t sell very well, ya know.
She IS a legal scholar isn’t she?
Me No Brainee, Me No Dhimmi
I guess she only reads comic books.
I can’t believe that anyone in Canada, right wing or left, gives this poor excuse of a human being any credibility. This is the woman who said, “Canada is lucky we let them exist.” on live television.
She takes a hardline stance on Kyoto, which is fine, but she doesn’t back it up with any hard facts. She doesn’t back anything up with any sort of facts. She’s another one of these sharp-as-the-edge-of-town people who thinks that intelligent design is somehow scientific. (Thou shalt not put the lord God to the test)
It’s a sad world we live in where people like this aren’t turned into a walking joke. I’ll start with a good zinger, “Ann Coulter’s book dissapoints in more ways than one. It isn’t even 2-ply.”
(Keep in mind, I consider myself a staunch supporter of the Harper Conservatives)
The woman’s amazing – intelligent, well spoken, and fearless. Who else would have the nerve to point out the obvious – we’re supposed to remain silent when people exploit their grief to advance a political agenda. Could have done without the b word, though.
As for her looks, I suspect she gets just as many female detractors who dis her because she’s supposedly too attractive to be intelligent. And that’s just plain sexist. 🙂
“Canada is lucky we let them exist.”
It’s an uncomfortable truth to say out loud, isn’t it? Considering the leftist theme about American Imperialism and whatnot, you’d think they’d start their plunder of nations with like, the easy country to the north with all the oil…
She reminds me of 2 other big mouth females…Joan Rivers and Leona Helmsley.
America seems to always have a place in it’s heart for loud obnoxious extroverted assholes.
I guess she only reads comic books.
But, manages to write best-selling hardcovers.
Whatever works.
… with all the oil and no military …
Detractors should understand the use of a figure of speech called “hyperbole”. Deliberate exaggeration to make a point! Don’t be too literal folks! Only non-brainy folks are strictly literal …
She’s hot, quick, smart, funny, and loves controversy a wee bit too much. I’d prefer it if she was a bit more controlled, but that’s her schtick. Intelligent Design isn’t, but whatever.
The last place you want to be is on TV debating Ann. She will demolish you, even if you’re one of the big bullies of TV (O’Reilly). She isn’t always right, is frequently over the top, but she kicks ass. She’s our Mother Sheehan, if Mother Sheehan was hot, smart, right 90% of the time, good on TV, and quick witted. Katrina Van Den Heuvel, Nation Editor and lefty version of Ann, used to go against her frequently and would get destroyed, becuase she just isn’t as smart or as quick as Ann (though she’s a bit younger and looks better).
Ann got rightly PNG’d from NRO for her “invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to christianity” quote. A little less of the conversion at swordpoint and she would have been fine (much of NRO and most of us signing up for the Global Conquest plan to end Salafism). She’s wrongly being attacked for her attacks on the 9/11 wives, as she has a good point about that small group of Jersey leftists, just as so many of us have a point attacking Nick Berg’s father and Jim Loney’s inanities.
Me No Dhimmi,
“Only non-brainy folks are strictly literal”
So where does that put your brainyness factor? On a scale of 1 to 10 just how brainy do you think you are….be honest!
lore_weaver:
If she said “Canada is lucky we let them exist”, it may not be politically correct or sound very friendly, but she is correct. Imagine if our neighbor, 10 times our size, was China, Russia, or Nazi Germany?
We’d have been invaded and conquered long ago.
We are lucky the wealthiest, most powerful constitutional democracy in the history of the planet is our neighbour. They let us be insulting, buy our goods and resources at fair market value, tolerate our socialist games, and defend us at no charge.Even though they could take us over any time they wanted.
And no, I don’t agree with her intelligent design theories, either. But as an American, she will even support my right to disagree with her.
America today is an “unintentional” liberal empire, and by no means perfect, but…
We are lucky, indeed.
I started listening to Rush Limbaugh before he went national…when he was still at KFBK in San Francisco. His commentary helped me solidify a lot of my conservative political beliefs.
But, one thing that Rush always used to go on about was how it was important to be kind and respectful when debating politics and social issues of the day. The basic idea was, “leave the over-the-top bad-mouthing and empty rhetoric to the left”. Just know that you are right (double meaning there) and be gracious in your “right”eousness. Rude people burn out quickly from public view – courteous people can go on to be smiled on by history. This was the idea.
Based on that, I get a little up-tight when I hear people like Coulter and O’Reilly. What each of them says is usually correct. But, they are very rough. Rush had a way of persuading…O’Reilly (who, let’s remember is a former tabloid TV “Current Affair/Inside Edition” nutbar) just creates controversy. I am convinced that he would be just as over-the-top and speaking in favor of leftist issues if there was more money in it for him. And Coulter is not much better. Her one-liners are great. But, meaningful debate is shot down when you speak in such a manner…The same way that the lefties can end an argument by calling you a “homophobe” if you oppose SSM.
Just my opinion.
Whoops. In my last post, I should have said “Sacremento” instead of “San Francisco”.
Andrew;
Canadians did fight in Vietnam although they were never involved officially. From the quote you can see that we profited by the war and contributed to its continuance. Canadians crossed the border and volunteered for Vietnam duty as well.
-“At home. 500 firms sold $2.5 billion of war materiel (ammunition, napalm, aircraft engines and explosives) to the Pentagon. Another $10 billion in food, beverages, berets and boots for the troops was exported to the US, as well as nickel, copper, lead, brass and oil for shell casings, wiring, plate armor and military transport. In Canada unemployment fell to record low levels of 3.9%, the gross domestic product rose by 6% yearly, and capital expenditure expanded exponentially in manufacturing and mining as US firms invested more than $3 billion in Canada to offset shrinking domestic capacity as a result of the war. The herbicide “Agent Orange” was tested for use in Vietnam at CFB Gagetown, NB. US bomber pilots practiced carpet-bombing runs over Suffield, Alberta and North Battleford, Sask, before their tours of duty in SE Asia. And the results of the only successful peace initiative to Hanoi–That of Canadian diplomat Chester Ronning–would be kept from public knowledge in order not to harm official US-Canadian relations. Ten thousand young Canadian men fought in the US armed forces in the war. At the same time 20,000 American draft-dodgers and 12,000 army deserters found refuge in Canada.
Readings: Victor Levant, QUIET COMPLICITY: CANADIAN INVOLVEMENT IN THE VIETNAM WAR (1986) Between the Lines, Toronto ,Canada”
As you can see the war was good for us, much like WW II benefited Sweden and it’s economy.
The really super intelligent are usually quite humble because they have nothing to prove.
The ones that are constantly trying to demolish others and prove themselves are merely adrenalin charged nitwits.
Since Coulter (spit) is so concerned about the ‘Goddless’ liberals, I have found myself trying to picture whom it is that she worships – who her ‘god’ is? All I can visualize is that hindu god Kali (goddess of destruction) with her necklace of human skulls and blood dripping from her fangs.
Coulter (spit) certainly cannot worship any diety whose message to the people was ‘that which you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me’.
I saw the interview with Coulter when she mistakenly said Canada sent soldiers to Vietnam. The guy interviewing her (can’t remember his name) had the biggest shit-eating grin on his face obviously thinking “Gotcha you capitalist swine”.
The truth is, Coulter was only half wrong and the program host was deliberately wrong because he chose not to mention that although Canada didn’t send actual troops, hundreds if not thousands of Canadians VOLUNTEERED to go to ‘Nam. Many of them were Mohwawk natives who went on to have distinguished careers in the tobacco (smuggling) sector of southern Ontario.
The best part of this Coulter interview is how she made hamburger out of the leftist sissy, Al Frankin. The interviewer mentioned to Coulter that he also met with Frankin prior to the two of them sitting down. Coulter asked if Frankin cried during his interview and mentioned his touring with the USO. Classic Ann Coulter moment. Seconds before they showed Mr. “Dog Gone It, People Like Me” Frankin blubbering and trying to equate his USO work to the Berlin Airlift.
That being said, Conservative women are hot!
Eskimo:
Actually, there is a grain of serious and real truth to your assertion “Conservative women are hot!”
Before the late sixties, it was a well-established fact (but not spoken about openly) that a pre-requisite for being a feminist was that you had to be ugly enough so that you couldn’t get a date (much less a husband).
I know it sounds crazy today – where all female Hollywood sex symbols are ALWAYS on the left. But, back then, it was rare to be an attractive woman AND a feminist.
I am positive that Gloria Steinem became famous precisely because she was the first attractive feminist. In her early interviews and press conferences, one of the first questions she would always get asked is, “Are you a lesbian?” To which she would reply (to the male interviewer), “Are you my alternative?”
Of course (like with Coulter), this ended meaningful discussion. But, it highlights the fact that there was an old belief that only ugly women or lesbians were leftists/feminists.
Anyone who complains about Coulter, without simultaneously complaining about the leftie darlings Sheehan, Moore, Chomsky etc, is an idiot or a hypocrite. They are every bit as over the top.
leftdog,
Coulter, like most Americans only worship 2 things…money and fame. They’ll do anything to get it. No personal price is too large.
Ethics, morality, etiqutte…all out the window!
Just…me me me me, look at me.
The new American axiom, there’s no such thing as bad publicity, it’s all publicity.
Sorry Kate, you can learn a lot from a culture by watching their TV programming. I have American friends that I visit with regularily and their views vary as much as anybodys. There is no 1 definition of America, if there was it would be greed.
I think it’s a really poor idea to make any kind of a heroine out of Ms.Coulter.
She is a very very very simplistic person and if you have ever watched her in action, you will soon realise that. Facts and Ann are usually not very well acquainted.
Apart from the sarcasm and snide petty nastiness, she really has very little to say, and would be best served on most occasions by not saying it.
And before I get pilloried—- I not only support Mr.Harper as Lore Weaver claims to do but support the Great Satan in Washington as well. But that changes nothing. Coulter is no better than the moronic ‘progressives’ that have made such asses of themselves for the past 6 years. She’s just a different flavour of ‘shamefully clueless’.
I wish she would just essentially SHUT-UP.
Eskimo,
Until you get them in bed. Sack of potatoes nicely packaged.
Ann Coulter:”I decided that bloggers were just a bunch of losers with no audience and no credibility who sat around their living rooms in pajamas all day hatching crackpot theories that never pan out.”
She is a hate-monger and I believe an icon for how NOT to conduct yourself with class or empathy.Like many posters here, just because the left often lowers itself to slander and personal attacks does not mean we need to throw civility to the wind and adopt this most disgusting of liberal traits!
This divisive mean-spirited partisanship is damaging democracy in North America!
randall g;
I’m not going to disagree with you. Moore twists facts illustrate a point for political gain, and Sheehan is just as uneducated and il-informed as Coulter.
Coulter looks so strong on television because they pit her up against bleeding hearts. She looks strong to her viewing audience. Put her in a debate with someone who’s even remotely intelligent and just as fiery, and she’d burn up like the brown sack of crap left on someone’s doorstep that she is.
As for people defending the, “They’re luck we let them exist” quote, shame. Stand up for Canada O_O. It’s freaks like Coulter that promote building a fence along the northern border.
Idolizing someone like that because they are entertaining to watch isn’t wise.
Arrogant bitch, end of story. Like someone else here said, real conservatives should be ashamed to be lumped in with the likes of her: she’s really an extremist/fanatic.
Before anybody repeats the false claim that Canadians didn’t fight in the Vietnam war perhaps they should take a trip down to Windsor’s Assumption Park to visit the
Over 40,000 Canadians volunteered for service in the US Military during the conflict in South East Asia.
There is no surprise that the CBC’s Bob McKeown didn’t know this fact but it demonstrates that Ms. Coulter does her research and what may appear as hyperbole is backed up with an impressive knowledge of the facts.
Randall – I haven’t had all that much exposure to any of them – do the others that you mention routinely hurl slurs and personal attacks at their political foes? The reason I ask is that Coulter is criticized in large part (from what I’ve seen) for the WAY she puts things and her childish personal attacks on anyone with whom she disagrees.
Coulter hits some home runs on politics, but she is plainly a dolt concerning science, evolution in particular. Even the Vatican concedes that evolutionary science is sound. Her laughable position undercuts her credibility generally. Her work does sell well as entertainment, though.
Boycotts work for justice and truth
I boycott crass trash
Ms. Coulter:
You go, girl! Keep up the excellent work!
The left simply cannot touch the golden-haired Amazon warrior. I wish there were more women like Ann. Sigh…
And I see a lot of leftists are participating on this thread.
Mmmm… feel the love! Such nice folks, them moonbats, eh?
CS you’re thinking with your PP
Hey, David, my friend, you learn nothing about a culture watching tv programs except the superficial packaging of some vacuous commercial script writer and his set of cliches.
Educated, well read and analytical people don’t use tv as an their source of information on much of anything. And you expect us to assume that your American friends are representative? Not a very reliable cross-section, wouldn’t you agree?
penny,
I have to agree with you that a cross section of 50 friends does not create an accurate picture of a nation.
However, I stand firm on the TV issue. Who in America doesn’t have one? Programming exists because there’s a demand. I don’t have the stats but at least 150 million Americans must tune in at some point every day.
BTW I lived in Florida for 13 years and ran a business just outside of Tampa for 12 of those years.
I agree with Murray. She offers simple solutions to sometimes complex problems. The truth is that sometimes the answer may well be simple, but inevitably that also means it is painful.
She is a caustic and gifted speaker with a quick wit. She lacks education, and class. She seems to have a knowledge base like the delta of the Mackenzie river, miles wide and only inches deep.
I beleive it was CBC’s Bob McKeown who asked Coulter how on earth could back up her claim of “We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity” to which Coulter replied that the first two actions were already a matter of government policy!
The left claims superiority with the likes of Sheehan, Sheen, Sarandon, Streisand, Moore and Baldwin calling Bush a terrorist, they root for the pond scum terrorists and have the audacity to think 9-11 was a plot orchestrated by Halliburton and the GOP and the MSM bends over backwards to help them get out their word.
A leggy Conservative blonde calls them a bunch of pussies and the left screams that this is somehow “over the top”. WTF?
Eskimo,
Is the midnight sun getting to you?
Who is this all encompassed collective left that is screaming ‘over the top’? I’m a die hard leftie and I couldn’t give a flying you no what about the likes of Sheehan, Sheen, Sarandon, Streisand, Moore and Baldwin. They don’t speak for me!
Please refrain from lumping us all together, it only makes you look like you’re a ranter who hasn’t done their homework.
TV is a vast wastland. The majority of Americans understand that. TV ownership is pretty much the majority of the population on the globe unless you live in a dirt hut in sub-Saharan Africa. It tells you nothing about viewing habits, show content or what people do with the information on tv. Stand firm all you want. To extrapolate a full picture of a culture from tv is nonsense.
I take offense at your calling “most Americans” greedy, without ethics, morality and etiquette and worshipping money. You must have worked very hard over your 12 year stint here to find 50 disgruntled losers.
Randall – I haven’t had all that much exposure to any of them – do the others that you mention routinely hurl slurs and personal attacks at their political foes?
Are you kidding? You haven’t heard what they have said about Bush? It makes Coulter’s comments about the “Jersey Girls” or whatever they’re called look like Romper Room.
Anyway I don’t intend to defend Coulter. Personally I get a mild kick out of her shtick, but I can understand why many do not. I’m just trying to maintain a sense of perspective.
