You know Kevin Chalmers, the former campaign coordinator for David Emerson, and not the leader of the effort to “de-elect” Emerson for having the temerity to join cabinet.
Well, he doesn’t even in live in David Emerson’s riding. That’s right, apparently he has decided that those other constituents need to have a by-election in their riding. I wonder if he has decided that any of us need to have by-elections as well.
The details are at Angry in the Great White North.
Update: Apparently this was revealed by Norman Spector on CKNW radio today. Darn.

Yeah, I also heard on the radio signals of the mother ship that people were dumping manure and painting graffiti on Emerson’s office. (I could “hear” the smug smirk on the news readers face)
Funny, I clearly recall the same thing happening outside of Beluga Whore-nach’s office when she jumped ship too.
WTF with the Emerson affair?
Why TF didn’t folks go moonbatshit over Brison/Stronach?! I smell a leftist conspiracy.
More importantly:
Koran Indicted in Germany for Violating Constitution, Laws
http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2006/03/koran-indicted-in-germany-for.html
The whole Emerson story is nothing but hypocracy and bullshit.
Can no Canadian see past their left/right biases?
Before Emerson was parachuted in by Martin(that’s right all you hypocritical crybaby Van/Kingsway voters)no one complained to the Libs when they were denied the democratic right of a riding race. But I degress…
My real complaint is against all those who would call Emerson a thieving Liberal one moment then defend him blindly once he claims he’s a Con.
The same to all you lefties who would vote for Emerson, then when he makes a move he sincerely believes(at least I believe him)is in the best interest of his costituents, relentlessly attack him.
We,myself included, love to rip the MSM when we catch them slanting stories to sell their particular message to Canadians. But,are we not doing the EXACT same thing ourselves?
Beluga Whore-nach? …fucking grow up,if she was a Lib who defected to the Cons you’d be singing her praises. And,oh yeah,if Emerson also did the reverse,he would be a typical lying Liberal, wouldn’t he?
Oh,and to you ignorant closed minded people who spew your bizarre(usually leftist)propaganda…
Martin bribed the inexperienced Stronach for the sole purpose of saving his parties ass before a non-confidence vote.
Harper bribed the experienced Emerson because he believed it was the best thing for Vancouver and Canada.(But,Mr. Harper, that still does NOT make it right).
It’s no fucking wonder we never get anything accomplished with this stupid fucking, devisive party concept. What a collosal waste of time and energy.
One more thing,at least when the Cons were upset with the arrogance of their leader(Mulroney)they made it clear and soundly thrashed him,the Libs didn’t have the balls to give more than a slap on the wrist to a completely disgraceful party.
And the really sad part,I see no change anywhere on the horizon.
Hope I didn’t insult too many people.

March 14, 2006 – UPDATE: The law firm in Toronto that has hired Erik Bornman is McCarthy Tetrault.
March 14, 2006 – Erik Bornman Surfaces
So what happens when you are implicated in one of biggest political scandals in British Columbia history? Well, you become a lawyer in Toronto of course.
The word from Toronto political circles is that Mr. Bornman is now an articling student (still trying to track down the specific firm), and is popping his head back into Ontario Liberal politics. Well, just so people are aware of what they are dealing with, here is some of the history witnessed by TDH Strategies over the years.
Our first introduction to Bornman was the Liberal Biennial Convention of 1996, when not 2 months after a Young Liberal delegation of over 100 arrived back in Vancouver, unpaid bills to the tune of $30,000 started being received from the airline and hotel. Only one man was eventually charged with fraud, and in spite of his cheque signing authority over the Young Liberals’ finances, Bornman never faced any repercussions.
Mr. Bornman used the Young Liberals between the 1997-1999 as his personal launching pad, helping to take over the provincial executive with youth delegates who never paid a dime for fees, accomodations or beer. Where the money came from was never fully revealed to anyone involved.
Bornman began to ply the same tactics within BC Liberal politics when Gordon Campbell’s party was still in opposition. In one infamous incident, he traversed the wall in the Liberal Party of Canada office to break into the room containing all membership information so that it could be used in his BC Liberal recruiting efforts. This is how he earned the nickname Spiderman.
There is so much more that can be discussed, but obviously, some law firm out east deemed Bornman and all his connections to the Paul Martin regime (remember them?) as valuable.
We will name the firm that made this hiring decision by the end of the week. +

Canadian Observer:
Bravo!! I agree with you except on one point.
You say on one hand that you believe Mr. Emerson had only canadian inerests at heart, and that Mr Harper did as well. Then you say Mr Harper was wrong.
I feel that a Prime Minister who does what he thinks is best for the country cant be wrong.
I guess i could be wrong, havent seen much of that in recent history.
Umm…sentinel, ya really have to stop bottling up your feelings and just let it all out…otherwise you’ll explode…
The principal reason the Emerson thing is still going strong is that this is Vancouver. The dippers here try to fight their little battles ad nauseum…hell, some of them are still trying to re-fight the 2000 provincial election…
Our public sector unions generally just can’t bring themselves to take “yes” for an answer, mostly due to the fact they consider themselves as political movements, not representatives of employees.
Many Vancouver residents can best be characterized as CAVE people…translation: Citizens Against Virtually Everything.
We not only have a hookers’ union, our freaking drug addicts have a union: VANDU (Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users).
Sooo…expect the Emerson pot to be stirred for a while, those behind it don’t have anything better to do (like work for a living).
Bruce — thanks for summing that up. I grew up in B.C., and live here now, but spent 6 years in T.O.. Try and explain how things work in B.C. to Ontarions (sp?)is pretty hard. You only get blank stares back.
After reading Bruce’s description, I don’t think I would even want to visit Vancouver – unions for drug addicts – how totally insane!! I guess I’ll have to move out to Alberta although things are looking up substantially here in Quebec for the first time in a long time so I may as well stick around here for a while…
Chalmers is a bitter little socialist prick. His interference in another riding where he does not live is typical Liberal/NDP politics. Harper has taken the high road by going and reviewing the troops in Afghanistan. Hopefully by the time he gets back this teapot sized tempest will have abated.
dmorris: Don’t count on it abating any time soon. As long as the libs and ndpers can milk this they will, all hipocracy aside.
Libs are put out and pouty because they are out of power and intend to take it back, no matter what they have to do to get it back.
They are not there for us, they are there for themselves ( collectively)
Finally, when we DO have a government who cares about the Canadian people, Canadian troops and real things that make us proud to be Canadians, they can still not contain themselves, ( an example being Laytons disgusting display and comments. That guy oughta be horsewhipped. Then, that wouldn’t penetrate that thick socialist skull of his. He must think all taxpayers are as rich and with endlessly deep pockets the way he talks. If he is THAT stupid, what is he doing trying to flummox the public? – Oh, I forgot: Chretien and Martin GOT AWAY with that ploy so I guess Jack thinks he can parlay spin, lies and over the top taxation to 24 Sussex too… )
The most important thing today is the exemplary way in which Stephen Harper is behaving as Prime Minister. It makes one proud to be a Canadian again. And THAT has to count for much more than this whining and spinning the opposition parties are indulging in. They can take that and stuff it and haul up their suspenders for the next sitting of parliament , where their inanities and blather are on display for all to see.
Charley:
This part of the world is great, as long as you can muster the resources to resist the moonbat population (quite large, clearly not endangered) as well as to cope with the panhandlers and junkies downtown.
For example, I parked my car on the street right downtown when I was there for a business meeting a couple of months ago. Immediately, a bum emerged from a doorway proximate to my meter and said “Hey mister, give me ten bucks and I’ll make sure nothing really bad happens to your car”. Being a pretty big and (I think) tough ex-cop, I looked at him and said “Tell you what, I’ll be back in an hour and a half and if my car is OK, I won’t shoot you in the gut.” I think he thought I was nuts (hey, maybe I am, but I just am not inclined to accept BS like this).
But that’s life downtown. In the east-side of downtown, there is an open-air drug market, people are shooting heroin and smoking crack in broad daylight. The police are working valiantly to clean it up, with NO support from the courts.
On the positive side, this has got to be one of the most beautiful parts of the globe. And if you own a boat, as I do, nothing compares to this area. The islands, the secluded coves, are beyond description.
Actually, the only drawback to this area is the population (or part of it).
“….people are shooting heroin and smoking crack in broad daylight. The police are working valiantly to clean it up, with NO support from the courts.”
Bruce,I couldn’t agree more.The”bleeding heart”politicians don’t help either.
This happens downtown Kelowna. This is not a big city problem either. Just yesterday, there was a man in grungy clothing walking down main street yelling at the top of his voice, obviously strung out. There were elderly people out walking, everyone looking around wondering if it was safe to carry on with business. This just makes me sick. Even our city officials are starting to run up against business owners, they don’t want treatment centres next to their businesses. There are a couple of streets right downtown that no one can walk down safely, no businesses are open there anymore. There has to be a better way……
I have a pic and blurb on this weasel Chalmers. He one ugly mofo.

The good news is that Wally Oppal (former judge of the BC Court of Appeal and professional apologist for criminals and spokesman for the “jail just doesn’t make people better movement”) has left the bench; the bad news is…he’s the freakin’ Attorney General for BC.
It’s not just politicians…our public officials have all adopted the “hug a thug” principle brought in by the the Chretien government in 1994. Translation of “hug a thug”: If you encounter someone doing really, really bad things, just be nice to him/her, and he will become a better person. Speaking from experience: HORSESHIT
I do a fair bit of radio work…a couple of months ago I did an hour program on CORUS network outining that:
*Canada has one of the worst overall crime rates of countries in the western world (significantly higher than the US crime rate).
*Canada has one of the lowest rates of incarceration, on a per capita basis, in the world.
*In comparison with other developed countries, Canada has an extremely low rate of police personnel per capita.
Because that show was broadcast on 60 stations across Canada, we had a fairly large audience. I received than 400 emails as a result of the broadcast, but the most gratifying were from three Criminology professors, each of whom essentially said that they at first thought that I was full of S**t, but then checked my resources (which I provided to them) and acknowledged that I was providing corrrect information.
I can only hope that they may alter their teachings accordingly.
As soon as you see the indignant headline, you know it’s going to be Janke off on another major crime…someone did a job well (Chalmers) and someone screwed everyone (Emerson). Exactly who’s the bad guy? Only a month for a crime to become public service.
Oh, Sweet Schadenfreude…in your own words

I drove past a bunch of these anti Emerson creeps on Saturday. They were asking people to honk their horns in support. I wound my window down and yelled ” 3 cheers for Emerson” as I rounded the corner. My wife suggested that I should have said ” Get a life you wankers”. It was a lovely sunny day in Vancouver.
wanker steve,
lets hear from the people in Emersons riding. I gather you are not

So, Steve, a bumper crop of mushrooms this year?

God Bless PRIME MINISTER Harper. and MP Emerson and all good right minded people. Oh Yeah and GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
Bruce, believe I heard you on CKNW.
Did you also comment on having difficulty with some”agencies”that either wouldn’t or couldn’t supply numbers?Anyways,it was enlightening to say the least.Have you done interviews with other media or have they been disinterested?
Yeah, and I’m similarly curious to know how many Emerson protestors are actually residents in his riding? It wouldn’t surprise me if they were all from Vancouver East (which has voted CCF/NDP all but two elections since the riding was created some 73 years ago).
Just wondering if all this Emerson noise is not a plot of the liberals to send a message to any liberal mps that might also jump ship. The ndp are just jealous that no one has ever jumped ship and headed their way. How many remember the rat pack with sheila leading the charge. Lots of lib voters are in for a shock when they see their beloved libs acting like animals in opposition.
The two guys who dumped manure on his office are from New Westminster- not even Emerson’s own riding. Peter Julien (the NDP MP who launched the Shapiro case on Emerson is MP in Burnaby- New Westminster.
Is it possible these two heard Peter Julien’s trash talk? Is it possible there could be some connection between Mr. Julien and these two young men? Election workers? NDP members perhaps?
Should Mr. Bernard (Bullseye) Shapiro be asked to investigate if perhaps Mr. Julien has broken the MP’s code of ethics?
Just asking.
Maybe one should suggest to Mr. Julien that anyone who starts out to do a smear job should be careful what he is hoping to achieve.
Bruce wrote: But that’s life downtown. In the east-side of downtown, there is an open-air drug market, people are shooting heroin and smoking crack in broad daylight. The police are working valiantly to clean it up, with NO support from the courts.
Perhaps it is time, or well past the time actually, that Canadian jurisdictions emulated New York city’s “Broken Window Policy”
There is an old saying “don’t sweat the small stuff” but that is exactly what NYC did and their crime rate dropped drastically, making it a safer place to be than Toronto or Vancouver.
It is also time the we stop blaming ourselves for the life choices of these miscreants. Stop saying that it isn’t their fault that they are the way they are, it is their fault. We didn’t put the first needle in their arms, we didn’t make them steal so they could get their next fix. We are not responsible that they are morally bankrupt and too weak to try to better themselves.
A hand up yes, by all means, those that wish to help themselves deserve our support. Those that wish to continue living that lifestyle do not deserve our sympathy.
Sorry that my last post was totally off topic. It is just hard to stop a good rant when it gets going:)
Ah yes – Vancouver – Granola land full of fruits, nuts and flakes!
The poster above who made the comment about the protesters not working for a living is bang on! Why work when you can get pogy, or welfare, or disability pension or any on of the myriad of social programs available to our countrymen which leaves you lots of time to do that oh so important protesting work!
It is really time for this to be over – unfortunately – the dippers seem like really sore losers and will keep banging this dead horse.
Can the “esteemed” ethics commissioner investigate based on a complaint from anyone? Like a class action or a citizens complaint? Perhaps an investigation into the background of these protesters would bring some very interesting connections to light!
NDP seeks Brison ethics probe
MP demands investigation into e-mails on income trusts
BILL CURRY
OTTAWA — Former public works minister Scott Brison’s income-trust e-mails could soon become the subject of a probe as the NDP has asked Ethics Commissioner Bernard Shapiro to investigate the Liberal MP’s actions.
New Democratic Party ethics critic Pat Martin (Winnipeg Centre) sent a letter to Mr. Shapiro late Friday requesting an investigation, drawing his attention to the “insider information” sections of the Conflict of Interest Code for MPs.

Now let me see if I’ve got this right. Chalmers was Emerson’s LIBERAL campaign coordinator in a riding where Chalmers does not live. And the problem here is? Emerson changed sides to the CONSERVATIVES right after being elected as a LIBERAL in that riding. Well, this could be a problem, depending on whether you are a big C or a big L.
The LIBERAL Chalmers now agitates in the same riding – where he did not live when he was the LIBERAL Emerson’s campaign coordinator – for the sudden CONSERVATIVE Emerson’s de-election. But now Chalmers has no right to agitate for Emerson’s de-election because he still does not live in the very same riding in which he agitated for Emerson’s election? And the problem here is? Partisan paranoia, not rational thought.
maz2,
I don’t think that the ethics commissioner is permitted to perform an investigation into anything that has an active criminal investigation underway, so I would not expect the Brison email to be investigated until the RCMP have completed their work.

State Republican switches parties mid-term

OLYMPIA Republican state Rep. Rodney Tom switched parties Tuesday and will challenge state Senate Republican Floor Leader Luke Esser this fall. An irritated state Republican Chairwoman Diane Tebelius demanded that Tom resign his House seat, but Tom said he intended to serve the balance of his term as a Democrat. Democrats, including Gov. Chris Gregoire, welcomed the convert. Gregoire called him to chat. The Democratic Party said Tom’s switch reflects a growing disenchantment of suburban moderates with hardline Republicans. +

Attention News Editors:
Media Alert – Statement of Edward L. Greenspan, Q.C., Legal Counsel for George Radwanski, former Privacy Commissioner of Canada
Re: Regina v. George Radwanski
TORONTO, March 15 /CNW/ – “George Radwanski served as Privacy
Commissioner of Canada for almost three years, and acted with honesty,
integrity and dedication. He championed tougher privacy protections for all
Canadians and successfully challenged government initiatives that would have
compromised individual privacy rights in Canada after September 11, 2001.
In a highly unusual and totally unnecessary public announcement two years
and two months ago, the RCMP informed the nation that Mr. Radwanski was the
subject of a criminal investigation. For the past two years, as a result of
this highly publicized statement, Mr. Radwanski has been prevented from
clearing his name. Although it is extremely difficult to understand what took
two years and two months to investigate, we are pleased to now have the
opportunity to clear his name. Mr. Radwanski will vigorously defend against
the two criminal allegations brought against him by the RCMP.
When he is given a fair opportunity to defend himself, the allegations
will be demonstrated to be unfounded. Mr. Radwanski asserts his innocence and
is confident that at trial, it will be shown that during his tenure as Privacy
Commissioner of Canada, he acted with integrity and in utmost good faith. He
is confident that he will be acquitted of any wrongdoing.”

Apparently, choices are only open to those of us for whom byelections are readily available.
To those who find Emerson’s defection as bad as Stronach’s defection, I agree. Let’s have an independent ethics commissioner, agreeable to all parties represented in Parliament, say so and I will call for Emerson’s head as loudly as anyone.
As far as I can see, Emerson’s defection is as objectionable as Stronach’s. For those who had an objection to Stronach becoming a Liberal, I agree that Emerson is subject to scrutiny. For those who saw nothing wrong with Stronach, why is there something wrong with Emerson doing something similar now? Because he switched to a party you object to? Imagine how many people felt the same with Belinda Stronach.
As long as people hold the same reservations for Emerson as they did for Stronach, I have no objections.
….OK, I just woke up. What did I miss?
If Radawanski is so innocent, how come he has already repaid some $? Some $200,000 or thereabouts is my understanding. Does paying back money that you stole make you not guilty? I would love to see him clear his name too, but I doubt he will. I will apologize later if I am proved wrong.
