It’s Over

I have just witnessed the most dismissive interview between a network news anchor and a Canadian Prime Minster in my life.
CTV News with Lloyd Robertson – the thing that struck me about the interview wasn’t that Robertson was “hard hitting”. Though he did, to a certain extent, challenge Martin on a few points, it was the “Oh, just get on with it” attitude he displayed that was most striking.
Paul Martin, for his part, used the word “fundamentally” four times. He said absolutely nothing of significance. Nothing. Indeed, it could be argued that some of his sentences were incoherent.
What is wrong with his handlers?
Have they not noticed Dear Leader has been reduced to a Canadian drinking game?

  1. “When it’s time to actualy put the X on the ballot, how many Ontario & Maritime voters will actually vote for a Western Party??”
Are Liberals still prepared to play regions against each other with Canadian voters? Conversely, how many Canadians would waste a vote on a Toronto party?

  2. re the demotion of Cst. Merrifield–did it escape the notice of Supt. Prolux that his leader, Commissioner Zacharrdelli, is in the pocket of the Liberals? If Proloux had been honest he would have admitted that Merrifield was demoted because he supported the ‘wrong’ party!
This announcement does give one reason to hope though–all the RCMP are not Liberal toadies–some, like Merrifield, have a brain and use it.

  3. I suspect Mr. Harper has a good idea how much money the Libs have squirreled away in ‘foundations’ and such. Not to mention the discretionary funding which issues grants to all manner of special interest group.
I propose the Tories set up a penal colony on Hans Island specifically for the Librano$. That would take care of prison costs, and deal with the issue of foreign occupation/ownership in one fell swoop. Really. The Australia of Canada. Hans Island. In this country. I’m not making this up.

  4. Two reasons the liberals are losing touch.
-1- They have become a cult of personality.
-2- They are of the opinion that people are not as smart as they are.
These two points are well illustrated by the interview. The liberal campaign has been based on making it a contest of personalities, not policy. Thats why every response the liberals give, every new announcement they make, every advert they launch, every press release is premised on what Stephen Harper is going to do. Thats bad because as we’ve seen Harper already had stated what he would and would not do, so it looked and sounded like false accusations. Worse, it didn’t tell the voter what the liberals would do, or it reminded them what they haven’t done in 12 years.
To the second point, when asked a question, does Martin think its a good idea to either pose a question to the interviewer or give the interviewer the impression that they just don’t understand what he said? Constantly saying “let me explain”, “what you have to understand”, “let me be clear” or the worst “fundementally”, is not only an insult to the questioner it presents a condesending attitude to viewers.
Its saying that parents are incapable of raising their own kids, people are incapable of spending their own money, law abiding citizens can’t be trusted, there is a culture of entitlement for those that know the right people and if your not liberal you’re not Canadian.
Martin displayed it all during that interview, and a lot of people are getting sick of hearing thesame old cliche ridden phrases over and over again.

  5. Saw on the TV this morning Martin is now appealing to NDP voters to join him to defeat the Conservatives. This has all the sincerity of an abusive boyfriend saying “c’mon baby, you know I didn’t mean to hit you – its just that… well you make me so mad sometimes…”

  6. Iron Lady: Great idea.
Then we can tell the Danes that the island’s theirs.
    IF they keep the occupants.

  7. “When it’s time to actualy put the X on the ballot, how many Ontario & Maritime voters will actually vote for a Western Party??”
Already did so in the AP.
    🙂

  8. I didn’t see the Robertson interview, but I did see the one he did with Don Martin on CBC’s Politics last night. I imagined drinking each time he said “fundamental”, “fact”, or “values”, and realized I’d have been dead of alcohol poisoning trying to keep up with him.
At one point I yelled at the screen, “It’s a difference in POLICY, not a difference in VALUES!” Labelling every little difference between his policies and Harper’s policies as a “fundamental (*glug*) difference in values (*glug*)” is getting to be downright contemptuous. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to see a politician out of power as much as PMPM — not even “Da Boss”. At least he was good for a few laughs.

  9. It’s not over until the poll’s are counted.
I just don’t trust those thieves not to pull
something out of the hat at the last minute,
    or some cheap stunt.
I already voted. Now I keep my fiongers
    crossed ….

  10. Did anyone else notice that he almost said “wake up” instead of “walk away from child day care” ?
    Twice.
It is over. Dithers doesn’t even believe himself anymore.
The media vultures are tearing at the flesh.

  11. I dunno. I’m guessing that the Liberals are throwing the election. In the days afterward, look for many, many senior people to leave the country “for a vacation.”
I wonder how many of those vacation spots will have extradition treaties with Canada. Not many, I suspect.
I think they’re throwing it so they can get out and away before the seriously scary stuff in the various scandals is found or becomes well known.
    Justathought.

  12. You know it is about to be BS whenever you hear the words “in fact…” from Mr Dithers.
“In fact Mr Harper believes in a fend-for-yourself Canada”??? No, Paul, that’s not a ‘fact’; that’s an unethical misrepresentation of your opponent’s position in a most despicable way.
Why has Martin never been challenged by the press on what the definition of the word ‘fact’ means?

  13. Did anyone see the Paul Martin interview on Global National? Kevin Newman, really disappointed me, I thought for sure he was going to “hit hard” with his questions but instead treated Martin with “kidgloves”.
I expected more from Global National and Kevin Newman.

  14. Just like Dithers is programmed to self-destruct whenever the word ‘ad’ comes up in any form: ADvertising firms, attack ADs, ADscam, ADdition; Canadians has been programmed to stop listening whenever we hear the words fundamentally, in fact or values.
PMPM has gone from savior to democratic deficit to walking parody of himself over the course of the last few weeks.

  15. “No proof that there had been , in fact no evidence that there had been, any leak what so ever, let alone that anybody had been involved in it… gutteral chokes on words sound”

  16. “…’Valuable’ counter-terrorism agent transferred out of elite unit after trying for Tory nomination…”
Perhaps there were other reasons for deciding upon a transfer (if this is the same individual):
The other side of the Elmasry Affair
…”He restated his position several times during the show.) Another panelist, terrorism consultant Peter Merrifield, likewise declared from a tactical standpoint….

  17. Don, your one way ticket to the West Elsemere Penal Colony Association’s Prison Farm Ice Cube Factory has been processed and is available for the next departure, where you can join the myriad other Lie-beral’s out there in the cold unforgiving wilderness.
The Arctic Ocean is whipping up storm force winds of change, which will sweep down over the entire country on January 23rd, blowing the Lie-beral’s away and lifting the darkness that has plagued this good land.

  18. It is over. Dithers doesn’t even believe himself anymore.
I don’t think he ever did – and therein lies one of his greatest faults. Some people go on and on about the dangers of ideologues, but as Martin shows there’s little to recommend spineless ‘pragmatism’ either.

  19. Since Paul Martin has been on the West Coast for two days now.. I do not trust what he is up to when the cameras aren’t rolling.
Already has been reported that the NDP have been approached to drop their campaigns and join the liberals, endorsing the liberal candidate in their ridings. Svend, Libby and others have all said they have been approached.
With the scandal that took place with fed libs ‘buying’ lib memberships with cash and recording phony memberships, I have no doubt other chicanery is afoot.
I won’t feel easy until I see the results.
    Even then….
I remember Deborah Gray years and years ago in an interview saying something along the lines of: you can never trust the liberals. They always do something questionable… just know they did something, you just don’t know what or how!’

  20. Iron Lady, Robo, Bruce.
Alright, no bloody Libranos are going to contaminate HANS ISLAND!!!
We already have enough trouble with those “Vikings at heart” Danes.
Besides this is an important intelligence gathering facility. West Ellemere Island Penal Colony is a much better location.
And of course any meddling up here will interfere with our annual Christmas Operations.

  21. I have stated numerous times that one major factor in the CPC lead was that the usual sycophant MSM has dropped it’s lockstep promotion/apologetic damage control for Martin and his retinue in the Liberal party.
I do not believe that these 4th estate potentates have relnquished their king-maker sycophant roles and had a mass cathartic shift to embrace Harper style democratic populism….I believe they just got sick of being lied to and fed crap…they feel used. The MSM’s credibility was on the line and the Martin regime has fouled up so openly and badly that apologising for this rank coruption and ineptitude is not only embarassing to the MSM but threatens what little credibility they have left with the public.
Robertson/Oliver et al in the Trudeaupian MSM may be liberals but they’re kafkaesque idealistic liberals and I think it has just dawned on them they have been scammed by the Dithers damage control cover up machine…nothing is more vengful than a blind idealist who realizes he was lied to, used and led to defeat by a liberal leader.
I noticed Chretien got the same treatment before he was forced to go into hiding before his baggage became an embarassment that the sycophant MSM could no longer hide.
The Knives are out for the Dithering one and after he loses on Monday he won’t have the political life span of an outed Quaker at a gay youth rally. There will be a leadership change within weeks of the loss.

  22. “Fend for yourself Canada”…like that’s a bad thing?
Last time I heard, independence, resourcefulness and self-sufficiency were virtues.
Not according to the statist parties, I suppose….

  23. greg…The same way all you cons do it with your heads up Harper’s butt.
evilprincessweasel…None of those things you’ve mentioned are virtues, traits maybe.

  24. I have watched the interview several times and I still can’t figure out what he was babbling on about, all over the roadmap. also Goodale was on Duffy with Flaherity on the number’s, Goodale would’nt shut up long enough for Duffy to get in their, blah, blah, blahblah, Now i know where that Smith get’s it from when she is on CPAC. Blah, blah etc… like the eveready rabitt it keeps on going & going & going…….

  25. I don’t know about most of the guys here but:
Given a choice in a “win a date with” contest between Angelina or Kate, I’d certainly choose Kate.
    No question. No hesitation.
Poor Kate. My conversation might bore her silly, but at least I can cook decently, so the evening wouldn’t be a total loss.

  26. Ron and Don, very witty, as always.
    I’m so LOL!
I think, however, that you should be helping Paulie and the Cretch prepare their post-regime criminal defense just in case… just in case… rather than wasting time trying to toss poo at us.
But go ahead. We love a good laugh!

  27. Greg: here is a bar of soap >> – if you can’t take a troll down with a clean shot, shut up and let someone else take care of it
Ron: rising to Greg’s level? Aim higher…
    Henry

  28. BTW, now that I see it’s okay to do so, I’ll say what I’ve always wanted to but held back out of respect:
In addition to being extraordinarily smart, Kate’s also a hot babe! And conservative too!
    A rare diamond indeed.
    Betcha Kate’s blushing now… 🙂

  29. “evilprincessweasel…None of those things you’ve mentioned are virtues, traits maybe.”
    I beg to differ…see item #5 below…

  30. Oh wait, I should not have posted that. For those offended by virtue, morality, merit, and valor I do apologise.

  31. Back to the Robertson/Martin interview – what had me rolling on the floor was the way it ended – Lloyd heard a voice in his ear, turned away from Martin with body language that said “I don’t need to hear this annoying drivel”, and then turned back to Martin with a “Thank you Mr. Prime Minister” that couldn’t have been less curt or sincere. The fleeting look on Martin’s face when he realized the utter disrespect he had been shown and that there was *absolutely nothing* he could do about it – as MasterCard says, “priceless”.

  32. Mike R., I take it you don’t live on the East Coast. Here it’s moonbat territory. Ironic, since we Tories are suddenly popular here again…
Maybe I should actually go to the local Conservative meetings. Maybe then I’ll meet some smart, hot Conservative ladies? Had to work when Mr. H. was here yesterday (boy, did everyone in Canada suddenly become aware of the existence of a little old city called Saint John because of his visit… see, Saint John, Harper’s good for the city! Paul Zed never did anything but throw cash at us and claim it meant jack shit).

  33. During the last debate, we were playing pool, and tried the “fundamental” tequila shooter game, don’t bother, you won’t make the first half hour….
