I have just witnessed the most dismissive interview between a network news anchor and a Canadian Prime Minster in my life.
CTV News with Lloyd Robertson – the thing that struck me about the interview wasn’t that Robertson was “hard hitting”. Though he did, to a certain extent, challenge Martin on a few points, it was the “Oh, just get on with it” attitude he displayed that was most striking.
Paul Martin, for his part, used the word “fundamentally” four times. He said absolutely nothing of significance. Nothing. Indeed, it could be argued that some of his sentences were incoherent.
What is wrong with his handlers?
Have they not noticed Dear Leader has been reduced to a Canadian drinking game?

I agree. I am starting to feel sorry for the prime minister.
Oh and Kate, I saw your piece on the CBC. Who knew decent looking females lived in Saskatchewan?
You know what’s really sad. Martin isn’t a nice guy, sure, but it should be Chretien up there getting the heat. Chretien dishes it, walks out at the perfect time and then leaves Bahama Paul to take it all.
Although if Chretien was hit with this stuff he probably would have assaulted the camera man.
And I was so hoping for “next to you, Angelina Jolie is a dog!”
Thanks. ;’-)
(I haven’t seen the piece)
Typical of everything about this blog, this campaign…
Thanks for the “breaking news” two days late…

Awesome viewing.
Two days? I meant two weeks.
Whatever…
Altruistic, Chretien played Martin much the same way Pettigrew dumped the HRDC Scandal in the lap of Jane Stewart.
I believe in fundamentally saying ‘I believe’ a million friggin’ times over for no other good reason than the fact that I have nothing else to say that anyone else could actually believe!
I heard someone talk about the Lloyd Robertson/Martin interview and I thought it was a joke.
“Thanks for the “breaking news” two days late…’
Wow… and here I thought Saskatchewan was only an hour or so behind.
Kate’s a hottie Angelina who……No kidding about Martin on tv tonight, it was just plain sad, Im afraid he is working the sympathy vote…….. and its working!
How does official oposition leader
Gillies Duceppe
Sound????
Just watched it. Does he not know that these things are vehicles to drive voters towards his “vision”? Go on TV for a free two minute ad, shore up support and perhaps grab a few new voters.
What I saw was a guy with nothing to say. No fire, no passion. He’s a beaten man, and he knows it.
Worst run campaign, ever.
Martin says he will fill vacant Senate seats by Prime Ministerial appointment. It’s time to fire all sitting senators and finally have some real democratic reform, it’s time to have an elected senate.
i just watched the interview online. junior is like a dog in heat on the fiscal plan not having the right numbers. it’s being played by all bell globemedia outlets like a cure for cancer. i’m trying to connect the dots but all i can come up with is that the document contains one table in its eight pages that is A VERY ROUGH OUTLINE for a grade eight class. why is it being sold by the libelists like it’s a f*ing budget with the entire government’s finance department personnel behind its making? i’ve not found anything on the blogosphere refuting the libelist’s spin. could someone point me to something? i don’t buy it but there are other wavering fools who only need a blow and their 1.78 is gone. oh, kate, btw, it’s not over. save the vacation funds.
Fundamentally speaking…PMPM is fundamentally unable to proceed in any fundamentally coherent manner.
His handlers don’t care about him. But his handlers are making a huge mistake. They think they can dump Martin and then rebuild the Liberal Party as it was under Chretien. But they’re wrong.
People won’t forget who brought us all the scandals over the last few years. The only one that can be put on Martin is the Income Trust scandal. And I think that was probably a Chretien supporter who leaked it, knowing that they could accept the results either way. But as it turned out they got their money *and* Martin.
The firearms registry, Kyoto, sponsorship scandal, Shawinigate, Industry Canada/Research Council grant scandal, Foundations scandal, Earnscliffe, Canada logo ripoff (I could go on and on) all happened under the watch of Chretien. Granted, Martin may have been finance minister, but Chretien was “the boss”.
If the CPC and Harper succeed in uncovering and investigating all the past corruption by the Liberal Party there will be no party left to rebuild. And who would want to vote for them? Oh, I forgot.
What’s an “Angelina Jolie”? It’s not to come in unless it’s housebroken. I simply can’t keep up the new Euro breeds popping up all the time. I mean Vizla sounds like a soft drink. “New Sugar Free Vizla in the flatcoated can.”
Ch. Kate McMillan; Best In Show.
Just watched French CBC, an entire segment devoted to McKenna, Manley, Tobin, Bevilacqua, Rae etc. You’re right, this is pretty much over.
Astute political observations. Much enjoyed.
In Canada, has it become hokey to be anti-American yet? I just want you Canadians to know that as an American – I never stopped loving you, even though you burned the Stars and Stripes from Vancouver to Scotia. I know it was mostly for effect and for TV crews needin’ angry pinko fuel and enough Molsons make anyone feel radical, but, I mean, burnin’ Old Glory is so yester-hippie-protestish. Americans have been it doing since the Sixties for chrissakes. The lack of originality and carnality was so un-Gordon Downie-esque. He’s the real pony show you know, and I love ’em so. Please tell Gordy-baby I said “ello” and ask him to stop in Miami and get some needed sun.
Oh yeah, I was asked to stop in and say “hi!” by Apache at T.H.E. How “Hi!”, he didn’t say. 2 arfs and a yoot-yoot! I win!
The man just talks and nobody gives a hoot because they don,t beleive him ,I can,t understand why Sask wont get rid of Goodale
Watched the interview, Kate.
You looked younger, prettier than your picture on the blog. You came across demure and humble.
I liked it. Little do tv audiences who do not frequent blogs know what a good writer and commentator you are!
They’ll find out now! 🙂
It is Time for Them to Go
Kate on Liberal strategists:Have they not noticed Dear Leader has been reduced to a Canadian drinking game? Soon, the former
“fundamentally” four times but only one “the fact is”.
Heard PMPM today on the radio, and his statement was reported to be “it’s not over yet, and he says he will keep his job”. Hmmmm… just bravado? or is the sneaky b*stard sitting on something, waiting till last minute to throw the grenade?
No need to worry folks. The earthquake felt this morning in BC was finally attributed to the wheels falling off PMPM’s wagon as he pulled up for his speech with the Vancouver business community 😛
I saw the interview, and you could see it was almost painful for Lloyd Robertson at times. I think Paul needs a nice long rest.
By the way – Is there any place I can access Kate’s bit on CBC?
When Robertson was grilling Martin on his non-actions re the income trust scandal, Martin kept trying to shrug it off as just an attack by the opposition and actually said of the RCMP “when they’re asked by the opposition to do something, they’ll do it.”
Fundamentally, Martin no longer has a grasp of the fundamentals.
I’m with RW – I must have missed it somehow (probably the dog). Roughly how far into the newscast?

Come check out the latest attacks by Yours Truly on Paul Martin and the so-called “Liberals”.
It’s quite some hard-hitting stuff.

Angelina Jolie is an ultra-scary moonbat extremist piece of dung.
Let’s not utter that little shit’s name, please.
I better be specific: I say that about Angelina Jolie due to her views: she’s anti-Semitic, anti-Israel and she praised the Intifada.
There’s plenty of bizarre stuff about Ms. Jolie, but she’s just not worth the effort.
I don’t care how hot she might look. Her personality is uglier than a puddle of vomit, as far as I’m considered. With a personality like that, the little fireman would wither up as in freezing H2O.
‘ “fundamentally” four times but only one “the fact is” ‘ = 4 beers + 1 shot of Tequila.
“Fundamentally”, Paul Martin is a jackass.
This dithering, blundering idiot cannot form a cohesive sentence anymore. One can only hope he does not form a government of any sort. He’s at a point now, where he sounds a lot like his predecessor, Jean Cretin (another I loath and despise).
Credit to where credit is due:
Kate, for this great blog
PM, for the word fundamental.
Oscar Leroy, for the word jackass.
Question for you guys:
At the beginning of the campaign, I would have been thrilled to pieces to find out the Conservatives might get a minority government. I was just too worried that the Liberals wouldn’t die.
Now a majority is on the horizon, and we’ve all been talking about it for about 10 days now.
So here’s the question: if a majority doesn’t materialize, will we be disappointed? Or will we remember our previous goals? Personally, I’m still trying to be happy with 137 on the UBC market.
This just in:
Rick Mercer is not a tool of the Liberal Party.
Rick Mercer is simply a tool.Period.
the interview is up a CTV

midway down the page, right side, look for Paulie’s picture
For those of us not under the direct influence of mother corp (CBC), just what program was Kate on and where is it hidden in the CBC website? Inquiring minds want to know.
Still waiting for Elections Canader to send me my mail-in ballot BTW.
All you people had better not get too cocky. When it’s time to actualy put the X on the ballot, how many Ontario & Maritime voters will actually vote for a Western Party??
I’ve never seen anyone knock all three wheels off a prime minister’ tricycle with a single question before. And it wasn’t even a hard question.
I think the word ‘ad’ must be some kind of secret trigger.
Oh and Don. It’s feeding time.
You can hardly call the CPC a western party anymore as I’m sure a lot of Albertan MPs are going to find out soon. While PMPM has been out with his campaign of carpet-bombing divisive BS, Harper has spent a campaign re-building something. Have you been watching?
Canadian Sentinnel is an ultra-scary moonbat extremist piece of dung. Hmmm, that’s got a nice ring to it.
Paul Martin at a weekend Liberano Love In was pulling pints at a local pub in Guelph ON. He was telling anyone who would listen political stories of when he used to be Prime Minister.
This is the same man that balanced the budget 8 times and is now being royally screwed by John Cretin the former Emperor of Canada.
Given the past exploits of the Liberals, it is possible Paulie is feeling the hot breath of the hounds on the back of his neck. Keeping the closet door shut was hard enough when the Liberals ran the government, just look at Adscam. With mean ol’ Conservatives running the show there’s going to be skeletons falling out all over the floor.
Maybe there’s a special skeleton with Paulie’s name on it? That’d be enough to make him act funny on TV I bet.
You did a very good interview on CBC last night Kate. Very articulate and well spoken. I’ve got to believe, that the CBC has finally seen the lite on the power of the blogs.
PMPM was a pitiful quiver mass, in that interview with LLoyd Robertson. I think he knows the door is about to slam in his face on Jan 23rd
Martin began one of his “answers” with this beauty:
“Lookit, fundamentally, lookit…”
A new cocky Stephen “lets paint Atlantic Canada blue” Harper is starting to make an appearance.
This is going to be good!
Kate, how do you handle all the praise and compliments without your head exploding?

RCMP demotes officer over political bid
‘Valuable’ counter-terrorism agent transferred out of elite unit after trying for Tory nomination
Gary Dimmock, The Ottawa Citizen
Published: Tuesday, January 17, 2006
An RCMP counter-terrorism agent, once commended for tracking and arresting a man who had threatened Prime Minister Paul Martin and U.S. President George W. Bush, now finds himself removed from national security detail because of his “political affiliation,” the Citizen has learned.
Internal RCMP documents show that Const. Peter Merrifield, who unsuccessfully sought the Conservative nomination in Barrie, Ont., in May 2005, was told months later that it “would be in the best interest of the RCMP … if he was assigned to other duties, not related to politics.”
In October, six months after Const. Merrifield sought the nomination and one month after a glowing performance evaluation that noted his “tireless ambition,” a senior Mountie, Supt. Marc Proulx, wrote that the elite counter-terrorism agent had to be transferred from the force’s threat-assessment unit.
Supt. Proulx said he was “convinced” the constable could no longer work in the unit because his political aspirations had landed him in a potential conflict of interest. The threat assessment unit tracks reported risks against foreign and domestic government officials, visiting dignitaries, VIPs, federal politicians and the prime minister.
“His political aspirations,” wrote Supt. Proulx, “have been made very public and any incident with a VIP could bring questions to the TA (threat assessment) and ultimately place the RCMP … in a position of potential or perceived conflict of interest.”
In the last line of his memo, Supt. Proulx noted that Const. Merrifield was a “valuable” member of the national police force.
Const. Merrifield was first demoted to serve in the force’s Ontario criminal intelligence branch, but the Citizen has since learned that he will be transferred to the national force’s customs unit, which mainly tracks illegal cigarettes and alcohol.
Until he was stripped of his national security files, Const. Merrifield was the lead investigator tracking scores of threats against Belinda Stronach when she defected to the Liberal party from the Conservatives to become a cabinet minster. >>>

AS much as mainstream journalists must hate to admit Harper is a better choice for leader of Canada, I suspect that each one individually has concluded that Martin is unstable and unable to hold any conviction any longer than the last person he spoke with.
Not exactly the kind of leadership that a country can depend on in a time when terrorists may well be about to go nuclear on the world stage. Their (MSM) Liberal biases not withstanding, have decided to let Martin self-destruct for the good of the country.
On the CBC piece Kate, I just caught the last bit.
I am not a stammering Kathleen Petty viewer ordinarily, was just channel surfing.
‘Handling’ our youth:
…An 11-year-old girl, representing Belinda Stronach, wore a red turtleneck. The Conservative candidate dressed in blue. And the boy standing in for the Progressive Canadian Party’s Dorian Baxter, an Elvis impersonator, sported a wig with sideburns.
The Grade 5 students at Lester B. Pearson Public School in Aurora, just north of Toronto, turned their classroom into a theatre yesterday for a mock election. The candidates debated education and child-care issues in front of their classmates, and in the end, it was a close race: The Liberals won over the New Democrats by three votes. The Conservatives trailed closely behind…
