CTV;
Asked if anyone outside the department of finance was involved in the decision- making process on the income trust announcement, Goodale said it was a “very, very closely held” decision, involving senior staff members and “one or two other senior people outside the party.”
h/t to Maz2, in the comments.

So in other words, everyone on Bay St. knows.
Allan
Toronto
Could those other senior people have been Mr. Nesbitt CEO of the TSX and the CEO of Medisys?
Ahhhhhh, the fall guy will be a “volunteer”
“One or two other senior people outside the party.” I’d like to know if these people outside the party are more trustworthy than the Minister responsible? Three people can keep a secret providing that two of them are dead. If these two people are not dead then the minister should be stepping aside until the investigation is complete.
“Senior People”? Senior in a company? Senior citizens? What sort of senior people? If people outside of government were told, that constitutes a LEAK. Perhaps Goodale should be reminded of what the worl ‘lead’ actually means.
Another example of Liberal insiders, who have more rights than regular Canadians. This fits perfectly into Harper and Layton’s efforts to explain to Canadias that there is a select group of people who have special privileges.
“So in other words, everyone on Bay St. knows.”
Well everyone except the little Mom and Pop investors who got screwed over once again by the Librano Family of low-life crooks and scammers!
“… outside the party.” Is he really saying that Canada’s finances are controlled by his party? Well, everyone is saying that he is honest so I assume that is his perception.
why we have to listen to those crooks?
The one question that Goodale seems totally reluctant to answer is specifically, who were the people from the Investment Dealers Association that he met with the day before he made his announcement on Income Trusts?
the “outside the party” comment is fuzzy, if he means outside the government then who else would need to know this inside information?
Follow the $$$$$$$$$$$$$ Jake
lindsay has it right. i’m not sure how the process for normal budget consultation processes go, which, in the lieberal’s unique manner of administration is anything but (3 budgets cobbled together to suit the party staying in power) but my concept would entail addressing issues like the income trust matter (before the scandal hit) by being advised throughout the canadian spectrum. goodale’s policy, to tax them, surely didn’t sit well with the public. to reverse your leadership for the country to save your skin seems systematic for them. maybe the party’s organization has decayed to the point where they can’t sense the direction the power mongers in the party want to go let alone what is laughably presented as governing the country.
Outside the party or outside the government.
Lots of people outside the party knew…all of those civil servants within finance….they either have no party affiliation or some of them might even be (gasp) non-liberals.
Once again the statement belies the thinking. If you were within the party that would have been ok.
DOnt mean to make a mountain out this but the wording speaks volumes….
“…outside the party”? If this is the case then this would be classified as a LEAK and Goodale should step down. With the Liberals track record of corruption and mismanagement they should not expect to be given the benefit of doubt. It is interesting to note that only 13 of a possible 55 brokerage houses took part in the massive trading. Why? It is so obvious that a few people had a heads up and cashed in. Nice!
If Ralph Goodale had any integrity and credibility before this, he has nothing now. The short Little man that he is has shown his true LIBERAL colors and is just as corrupt and disgusting as the rest of that LIEBERAL bunch. The arrogance he shows in having investigated himself and declared himself clean is like the thief that says “sure you found the stolen goods in my pocket but I can tell you there not mine”, of course they are not yours you stole them idiot.
History will show Paul Martin & Ralph Goodale, the two bumbling morons that sank the Liberal Steamship.
nice Legacy, something to be proud of.
One thing Mr. Goodale still has not grasped is that he is working for a man with no integrity. I suspect he is desperately trying to cover Martin’s ass, and save his colleagues from a wipe out unseen since Mulroney’s political annihilation. But his integrity apparently does not extend to the wellbeing of Canadians, and like all the other Librano$, he will keep deflecting questions until he no longer has a choice. I think that there should be somebody from Democracy Watch, or the Taxpayers’ Federation present at these meetings with the RCMP. I, for one, have absolutely no confidence in the RCMP’s independence. I think it was compromised a long time ago, circa Shawinagate.
I think Goodale meant to say ‘outside the Finance department’. The information did have to be shared with other government officials. There will probably be an explanation issued to that effect.
Maybe they will try to spin it that the one or two people, outside the party, were Harper and Layton. That way the can prove beyond a reasonable Fairy Tale that they are the party entitled to own the Govt.
I’m sure they can investigate themselves and prove it.
Keep on piling it on and hopefully they will drown in their own B_LL SHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Before Jan. 23
As long as and obstinant DEADale is sparring with the Mounties, they won’t be breaking down Martini’s office door which may eventually happen.
These people are not Liberals nor are they even a government. They are a criminal organization masquerading as a government.
Can anyone name anything that has come from Ottawa in the way of improving Canada, or anything can be listed a ‘good governance’ since these people have held power? Anyone? Anyone?
If not then what were the last 13 year about?
Perhaps we need a revolution not an election.
Great posts this morning Kate .. I don’t have time to get to church now with all this reading.
Well, Bill B., it would seem that what Mr. Goodale says and what he wants to say has been going on for a long time. He’s now claiming to have told all Canadians about his plans for income trusts in his media scrum, prior to actually coming out with a prepared statement days later. The problem is that Canadians didn’t trade in the marketplace on his careless discussion with the media. They began trading just before he actually declared himself officially on the subject. If the media scrum was your statement Mr. Goodale, then why was it necessary to make a statement later? It seems that the average Canadian investor got screwed when you stepped into the income trust scene much earlier, and then you made sure that your ‘buddies’ benefited from your quick fix on the matter, before heading out on the hustings. I lost considerably Mr. Goodale, and I won’t forget. There are thousands like me! “Hands in the pockets” “Hands in the pockets” Lets all sing together now…
I listened to Goodale on Warren yesterday. I don’t know why Warren was so easy on him, preapproved questions must have been a precursor to the interview.
The start of the first answer was “that was a good question” and then it turned to bull shit.
As to the RCMP investigating, as a police force they are barely adaquate trafic cops how do you think they could investigate some one as slimmy as a liberal. Check their record so far it’s zero.
Goodale is the master of the endless non-answer. I wish just one interviewer would catch on to his schtick and cut him short when he starts going off on empty tangents.
Boy, First, I hated that comercial “Hands in my pocket” until now. It’s to bad the CP’s couldn’t use that one for their next commerical, it fits the Liebreals to a tee. Ralph might have been a “good guy” before he started hanging with Paulie. You know the old saying guilt by association! So now there are one or two senior people outside the party that knew? Man Ralph has lost all touch of what his office was meant to stand for. We wonder why violence is up, the justice system that doesn’t protect its citizen’s, young people don’t vote, with a crooked PMPM, party and “friends”, what great examples they are setting for our children!
One other thought: What does that say about the national security of our country if this is how these fools operate?
No question in my mind that the stage is being set for a whitewash deal.Martins’ handlers feel things slipping away so they put pressure on Martin to speak to Goodale(all the senior votes going down the drain). Martin can say “it’s your choice but remember I appoint cabinet”. Goodale says he is “loyal” and Martin informs his handlers who have run out of champagne and cavier money who inform their financial supporters. Voila, Mr Goodale, your holding the bag. You may come out clean criminally but morally you stink.
What is the difference between Paul Martin’s Liberals and King Louis the 14th in France?
No really I want to know.
Bring back the guillotine.
“Outside the Party”? Just rewatched the actual clip and he seems to say “department” rather than “party”. I think there was an error in the transcription on the ctv site.
I wish this was the smoking gun but I fear that it aint.
well folks , there you have it pmpm says gooddale “is a good and honest man” what a stinking load of dog-crap political hacks and bag men we are saddled with in this demented dominion yet fat paulie with his barbadoes tax shelter secure and paying no taxes in canada the lieing fat bastard keeps on with his Stephen Harper is “unfit to govern” whine how do you look in the mirror in the morning at your self ?? this tax paying canadian would like to know???
bubba the boilermaker
Re “which people”
I guess I can safely assume that the one or two others in the know kicked back a nice little donation to the Liberanos for being on the “inside track”
Bubba the Boilermaker
HAppy New Years All!!!! I got an Idea for A CPC election theme song since the “Hands in My Pockets” thing is already spoken for. How about Supertramp’s Logical Child, remember this…..
…..What would you say about me calling you a radical…..a Liberal……oh fanatical…..Criminal…………
Let’s all sing along!!!!!!!!!

The verdict from “judge” Charles Adler is in:
“Rotten is the only verdict for Paul
By CHARLES ADLER
Breaking News: We have before us a political murder-suicide story, the likes of which we have never witnessed in Canada.
Paul Martin is murdering the Liberal government of which he is the boss, while at the same time killing his chances of becoming anything more than a footnote in Canadian history. He is now only weeks away from becoming another John Turner, a man who barely had time to run a series of downs before the final gun sounded.
While it may be impolite to put a person on trial before the victim has expired, this ain’t court. It’s a column.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the name of the accused is Paul Martin. We used to call him Paul Martin Junior, in the days when his dad, a generation ago, was a senior cabinet minister with elegance and eloquence. The accused is an apple that has fallen very far from the tree. At this moment, he cannot even see the tree without accessing nuclear-powered binoculars.
Permit yourself to think of his graceful, respected late father as Apple Tree and the accused as Rotten Apple.
Apple Tree surrounded himself by staffers who had great taste and dignity. They knew that the senior minister who always aspired to the highest standards of public service, demanded the same of the people closest to him.
But Rotten Apple had different preferences. For nearly a decade, he played on a team led by the linguistically rancid Jean Chretien. But nobody close to Chretien would ever make the mistake of calling Rotten Apple a team player. They were aware that Rotten was frequently using his worms to crawl into the computers and cellphones and, most recently, the Blackberries of key media soldiers.
For years the soldiers, on the assumption that some day Rotten would be king, accommodated his proclivities and fetishes. They were prepared to be treated like toadies in return for access to the secrets of power once Rotten replaced Rancid.
But who would have thunk that by the time the changing of the guard had taken place there would be so much sewer gas in the house called Liberal, that all Rotten could do was distance himself from Rancid? He invited one of the good old Gomers of the Quebec bench to run interference for him. Gomer hired a crony of former prime minister Brian Mulroney’s to prosecute the Chretien crowd.
Gomer was the dutiful gopher that Rotten wanted him to be. He tied a noose around Rancid and then being the dutiful gopher that he was born to be, delivered unto Rotten the Holy Grail of legal innocence — personal exoneration.
Having been personally exonerated, Rotten’s gang decided that they now had what they needed to scorch the immoral earth that their opponent Stephen Harper walked on. Of great assistance to the artificially enthusiastic Rotten was the contrast of an opponent, Harper, whose personality temperature was colder than that of the average cadaver. Rotten was preparing to smite Cadaver with a series of TV ads crafted to convey the impression to innocent citizens that if Cadaver ever ruled the dominion, Canada would morph into Alabama.
But Rotten’s Christmas of 2005 ended abruptly with a Boxing Day Bang when a certain headline became quickly seared into the minds of the innocents: RCMP criminal investigation.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury: On Jan. 23, you are being asked to return a verdict of Rotten in the First Degree.”
I’ve now detected a building pattern of Liberals blaming unnamed people “outside the party” or whatever. First it was a few civil servants responsible for AdScam. Now this. Watch for them to do it again.
I get Kate’s point about Ralph going on and on without answering. The MSM, I found over the years, goes after Conservatives harder, cutting them off just for trying to explain a point while allowing non-Conservative politicos to babble inanely and not answer the question. It makes the average person’s jaw drop at the amazing show of big words and grammatical sophistry they can’t follow, yet they’ll assume since the Liberal sounds so smart he must know what he’s talking about. Of course, however he’s bullshitting.
(Off on a related tangent now…)
We conservatives can’t get a break from the leftists, can we? No matter. If that’s the way they’ve been treating us for so long and continue to do so, it’s then morally and ethically acceptable to return the favor, forcing the other side to rediscover why there’s a “golden rule” (do unto others as you’d have them do unto you). They must learn the hard way.
It’s like, “How would you feel if they did the same to you?”. That’s what we were always asked as kids, remember? Maybe they (leftists) didn’t have the benefit of that kind of upbringing or they’ve forgotten or rejected it?
Ralphie says:
“The critical thing… is that I didn’t send that signal in a secret, private way with some sort of privileged communication” he said. “It was very public for every Canadian to hear and see and learn from.”
What the hell Ralphie!!! Are you the friggin third base coach??………..Touches hat… picks nose…..picks third basemans pocket…..
Or are these “signals” more sinister…..perhaps Pythonesque………. Nudge,Nudge…Wink,Wink…Say no more… Say no more…….Large foot descends and squashes small canadian investors.
Nice Ralphie!!!
For the record, I consider Adler to be about two degrees short of “idiot” on most topics, particularly those involving the US.
The very fact that such sensitive information was shared with outsiders, whether they be the companies mentioned or not, should force the immediate resignation of Goodale. Clearly, the Liberals have not learned anything from Adscam.
Is anyone else shocked at the bashing the Libs are taking at the hands of Crusty Oliver on Question Period? He’s declaring them dead! Shameless Jane is still on board the Liberal train, continuing to ask the Conservatives leading questions, ignoring their answers, and attributing to them the answers she wanted to hear…but Crusty has actually been fair. Either a sign that this election is truly a breakthrough for the Conservatives…or that the other shoe is about to drop in the next three weeks, and he’s just trying to buy some credibility.
Adler? The words “sanctimonious blowhard” come to mind.
“one or two other senior people outside the party”So a couple of things come to mind was it one “senior person” or two “senior persons” what exactly is a “senior person” by definition ???? now then theres “outside the party” is that people that are ” friends of mine” as opposed to “friends of ours” as in made Liberanos as opposed to just everyday non “made gansters”who might not be under “omerta” oath not to speak of mob (liebrano) buisness outside big fat paulies “family” help me out here Mr. Goodale this Poor canadian tax -paying wage-slave is really confused cause when you an big fat Paulie are interviewed he whines about Consertive “allegations” and won’t answer any questions and you do the same thing and the “interviewers” let you get away with your stupid juvenile antics when they should be pulling you up short with a quick cuff on the ear and a ” answer the damm question ” You are certainly not fooling me with your stalling and stammering you have been made a fool of by fat Paulie re-vamping your budget to keep “smiling Jack” onside long enough to keep the train wreck that is your goverment on oxygen a few more months
finally an admission that their was someone else at the accident at the intersection of Bay Street and Sussex drive.
which body will be dragged away. a bay street crony or Sir Ralph of Gooddeal.
I’ve seen in other postings that many people think the SEC will conduct their own investigation into any trading spikes on the NYSE. The comments have generally been “The fix is in here in Canada, so thank God, the Americans will get to the bottom of this.”
I’ve thought about it for the last day or so and came up with this…
So what average Canadians are saying is that we no longer have faith in:
-Hard-hitting Canadian journalists to dig out the facts.
-The RCMP to ‘get their man’ without political interference.
-Canadian voters to see through Liberal spin, lies and obfuscatation.
Our last hope, our hero in a ‘white hat’ is to hope that American investigators, journalists, etc will root out our home-grown corruption.
How sad for Canada…for us. Really. Very sad.
How did it come to this?
Sooz,
Thirteen years with one party in power.
Saint-Lambert was bought in 1997
Steve Stinson of Nice Comfy Fur tried to comment the following yesterday – Haloscan wasn’t cooperating:
Until recently, I lived in St-Lambert and was a resident during the 1997 election.
There is little question that the Liberals targeted St-Lambert with AdScam and other corporate money in the 1997 election.
From the donations listed on the Elections Canada site, I calculate that the companies implicated in AdScam and their associates, together with the Desmarais family and Power Corp., contributed a total of $19,200, or 30% of total expenses incurred by the Liberals in the riding election campaign. Another $5000 in large donations was contributed by four individuals who I was unable to link to any organization.
Yolande Thibeault deservedly lost the election in 2004 to the Bloc Quebecois candidate. It is really too bad that only Quebec seems to get it. The Liberals are corrupt, and will do anything, including stealing from Canadian taxpayers, to retain their grip on power.
If you leave out the targetted money from ‘A. Desmarais/Finance Chretien Desmarais’ then still 25% of Thibeault’s campaign money – or more accurately the declared campaign money – came from three sources:
Lafleur
Groupaction
Le Groupe Polygone Editeurs Inc.
The Liberals bought that seat in the House of Commons.

OK, everyone, breathe. He didn’t say party, he said department. He said a lot of other things, in particular misquoting the RCMP release, that were a load of bovine excrement, but on this one, he is not guilty as charged.
Go listen to the clip yourself. Don’t assume he said anything other than department (the word that, in context, makes the most sense anyway). I think you’ll agree. And certainly, even if you don’t, there is NO way to make such a charge without looking like you’re trying to run up the score.
Focus, people, focus. The problem with Ralph Goodale’s stand on this is that he keeps quoting from an RCMP press release that should not – and in the normal course of events, would not – have been released. This was a release tailored to give Goodale and Martin political cover. Follow the news release – try to find any evidence that the Government of Canada is issuing news releases during the election period that have the effect of fueling Liberal talking points. ALL of the news releases that have otherwise gone out from the Government of Canada have had to do with public safety (charges laid, weather warnings, etc.), or time sensitive public interest stories (condolences on someone’s death, participation in an upcoming event, etc.).
Go back to the 2004 and 2000 elections. Same thing.
The only information from the RCMP we can trust is the one that the Liberal Government didn’t write: The letter of the Commissioner of the RCMP to the NDP Finance Critic. An extraordinary letter in itself – I doubt he writes too many letters to complainants. And it’s obvious from that letter that there was enough information, after a month of looking into the matter, to warrant opening a criminal investigation. This investigation was NOT launched because of opposition accusations that had to be cleared up to “clear the air”, as Goodale lied in this piece. It was launched because the review by the RCMP indicated a criminal investigation was warranted.
Just listened to Monte’s interview. Jane was her usual attack dog self, but Monte held up to her barrage admirably well. I particularly liked the fact that he put forward succinctly the fact that the RCMP would not be investigating this if they hadn’t found evidence there was a reason to look at this in terms of criminal wrongdoing.
Of course, it helps when you have nothing to hide.
NCF TO is correct in pointing out that Craig Oliver did some LIB bashing. However overall in the end, the CTV crew and Globe’s Ibbotson were basically pimping the Libs. The Akin guy seems to be saying that malfeasance and theft by the Liberals will be overlooked by the pubic as a trivial matter as it is by his lights. These people are not friends of Harper and conservatism. CTV and Globe & Mail continue to be your basic journalistic Liberal lickspittle.
O.K. everone take a deeep breath……. repeat after me……. the Liberanos are toast…they are done …stick a fork in big fat paulie….. he will go tearing across Canada in the next two weeks like a ripped blimp he is still toast….and goodale by covering his quivering old butt is done also the crap he is trying to peddle just doesen’t wash a few people made a pile of money once again at the expense of ordinary tax paying Canadians welcome to banada
nothing to see here folks keep moving!
Listen to Craig Oliver. He’s been around forever and he was one of Pierre Trudeau’s canoeing buddies. A very exclusive group. He knows more than he’s saying, and if he’s worried, Martin & Goodale should be beyond panic. Ibbotson is always lecturing, and it’s always nonsense.
Those who say Ralph Goodale was a good guy are right. That was before he went to Ottawa in 1974. When he came back in 1979 you could see the hunger for powder in his eyes. Years out of office taught him to hide it, but the last few years at the top unmasked him.
RJM
powder in his eyes????
RJM:
I agree with you, Ralph Goodale after having a taste came back in 79 and preeched to himself and those he felt were his puppets that his only goal was to be Prime Minister, he has little man syndrome and will burn anyone in his way or to protect his shell of a false image of being innocent. This is a short man that went to functions at the Desmarais and people looked at him as if he was the Royal Butt wiper.
This just in…

There is a rumour out that there was some big-time insider trading of income trusts prior to the announcement by Mr. Goodale.
The OSC and RCMP have apparently been asked to investigate.
Stay tuned. This one could be interesting.
