There were similar incidents in the last Saskatchewan election – a cartoon showing SaskParty leader Elwin Hermanson loading “NDP sympathizers” into cattle cars; a memo that referred to “President Shrub” circulated by a NDP caucus worker.
What makes these slurs remarkable isn’t that they occur, but that they are being issued by those at the highest levels of the Liberal campaign. These people aren’t local door-knockers or raw recruits manning a phone bank. They are members of the inner circle, confidents of the Prime Minister.
There’s a flippancy, an utter lack of respect being exhibited for political opponents and by extension, the political process. The casualness with which these comments are uttered is revealing in that it telegraphs that there is no expectation of reprisal from within.
The curtains have been pulled back to give Canadians a view into the internal culture of the Liberal party.
Consider the corporation or organization with established standards for acceptable internal discourse. Comparing a business competitor to a dog would be considered inappropriate in any setting – closed door included. Making such a statement in a public setting or outsider? Unthinkable.
The slurs reveal a culture of disrespect and arrogance, and insight into a deeply immature party character. The statements by Reid and writings of Klandor signal that this mindset is openly tolerated within the inner circles of the party.
“Alberta can blow me”.
This is not aberration or momentary lapse of judgement. It is indicative of the ethical standards of those in control of the Liberal Party – evidence that none exist.
Maybe it is time to let “those eastern bastards freeze in the dark” time…
Only problem is would Saskatchewan join Alberta in making a new country?

I read in a post by someone somewhere that, “the Conservatives created Canada, the Liberal’s only exploit Canada”, that sure rings true when we hear and see such disrespectful remarks. The Liberal mindset is utter disdain for anyone and anything not Liberal. Then one has to look at how they treat each other during their internal fights and arguments. There’s an awful lot of ugly furniture in the attics of PMPM and his closest advisors.
Mike Klander was actually one of the classier Liberal bloggers.

I would say it is more than that … it was disgusting. I can say that as an ‘ethnic…’ I can say that as a Canadian.
But this response will be a typical one from most liberals… for them it was unfortunate and regrettable that the guy was caught! That’s about it!
Why can’t these guys make moronic statements about Ontario, we would know who would win then. They know that there going to get away with these comments because Toronto keeps them in there “volunteer positions”. If that was a conservative saying that you would here everything from redneck bigot to fascist extremist. But no it’s ok because they are Liberal’s & they are entitled too.
Once again the voice of Klander crys out a culture of entitlement. No one in Canada has a right to a view that is not the Liberal view.
They are so sanctimonious in their hypocrisy it makes you want to throw up.
This Liberal party is showing evidence,virtually everyday, that they need to lose this election, move to the opposition benches, get rid of this disgusting leader and re-think their policies and positions.
The Liberals may be ahead in the polls but I think their support is thin and wide. When election day comes, Canadians will speak with one voice and say it is time for a change.
This Yank is a bit surprised – you Canadians throwing grade-A+ mud around. We Americans stop at calling people chickens.
To understand the lunatic lefty mindset, I would read both parts of Wayne Allyn Root’s Newsmax essay starting HERE that I did this morning. Chilling stuff that today’s revelations only add gas to.
I also have a recommendation to make: Hockey match between the Conservateurs and the Liberals for control of your government. At least the hits will be clean – and the “Liberals” can garner technical foul after technical foul and flood the penalty box while Stephen Harper gets goal after goal after goal. A thought.

As an Albertan I am used to elections where we are vilified, what’s the real difference between Scott Reid saying “Blow me” and Cretien’s comments about us being “different out there” not a whole lot.
Both show a complete and utter lack of respect for anything Albertan. From the office of a Prime Minister who pledged long ago to remove the “democratic deficit” and reduce western alienation this has been disappointing to say the least. But then again, in Alberta, we don’t expect much. The cautionary note to all non-Albertans is to ask just how many social programs can be funded when ALberta isn’t paying your bills. Don’t be fooled, these are the comments that make us Separtists – and explain why we will NEVER EVER trust a Liberal government.
Sheila, you’ve forgotten – this all started with Trudeau flipping us the bird ‘way back when. It’s been downhill ever since and yup, you sure do get used to it.
I’m wondering if Klander won’t put a dent in the Toronto ridings, though, as his slurs were aimed pretty close to home… But, then again, maybe not.

I find most of their blogging to be fanatically preachy, overtly disinformative and self-important with a large dollup of vulgarity.
On a personal level having done some lobby work in Ottawa and elsewhere I have never met a federal party connected liberal who was not base in their business manner and indefensibly arrogant in demeanor. The younger they come the more vulgar their deportment in a peer group environment.

Heard a Toronto commentator say that there are a few Libs out there telling their supporters to vote Tory this time around, which would force a Lib leadership review, which is greatly to their liking seeing as how they are going to run. Wouldn’t name names, but says more than one. Given the lacklustre performance, the ‘gaffes’ which aren’t really gaffe’s at all, one does wonder. One Toronto media outlet named all the companies Klander is associated with. Guess people can decide whether it’s worth having him around or not.

How infuriating is it that sophomoric halfwits like Reid, Murphy, Duffy, and Klander were able to bamboozle the Canadian public into electing Liberal governments. These guys think they are the Karl Roves of Canada; in reality, they make Bob Shrum look like a political genius.
Josef, there is no such thing as a “technical foul” in hockey.
There are penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct, roughing, interference, high sticking, slashing, hooking, holding, elbowing, tripping, clipping, fighting, kneeing, charging, boarding, spearing (yes, that one is as ugly as it sounds) and (very rarely) kicking; as well as 5-minute, 10-minute, and game misconducts – but no penalties for potty mouth.

The Liberal candidate (sacrificial lamb) for Calgary Nose-Hill has an interesting take on the sponsorship scandal. He’s crediting the Liberals for uncovering it!

OK, let’s follow this reasoning: Sponsorship is not scandal. Sponsorship is “affair”. Scandals are bad. Affairs are not bad. A-G found affair. A-G reported affair. A-G hero. Liberals hero for letting A-G be hero. Tories not hero. Tories didn’t expose affair. They said Liberals bad. That’s bad. Liberals not bad. They got caught. They’re accountable. That’s good. All righty, then! (Someone should point out to this guy that the Prime Minister, the second most powerful politician in Canada, didn’t expose the “affair” either, and it was in his own party! Even after it was brought to his attention. Prime Minister bad?)
Patrick: actually this Liberal ( as usual) is telling a lie….It Was Garry Breitkruetz who had been following the escalating costs of the gun registry and saw a couple of perennial Liberal trough hogs vacuuming up most of the over budget revenues. He was after the AG to audit the registry for years…..when Fraser finally audited the gun registry spending, she found 2 of the ADscam players dipping their beak into registry funding. This left a trail back to the sponsorship program which was used to top off registry funding to pay the Brault agency 10 times more than they tendered to the registry administration. The AG put 2+2 together after this having also being tipped by many opposition MPs from BQ to NDP who had whistle blowers contacting them about the scam going on in the sponsorship program.
So, it was the constant urging of opposition MPs who were tipped to the scandal by some whistle blowers who had the AG finally act directly on the sponsorship program.
I suppose your Liberal Candidate will say that it was Liberal party who “allowed” the whistle blowers do what they did.
Someone tell me…after having the Klander story on the front page yesterday (Van Sun, Nat’l Post) and buried on something like page 13 (Van Province). Only the National Post had 1 stinking letter to the editor regarding the offensive material on Klander’s blog. And that was from some guy in South Korea?!?!
Is this a national shrug of the shoulders? Or are the media suppressing angry letters? God, I hope it’s the latter – I can deal with the thought of biased media outlets but apathetic, double-standard loving Canadians galls me.

Did the CBC cover the Klander story?
I don’t think I noticed it. If it was a conservative who made the remarks it would have been the lead story. I’m sure the CBC would go find Asians on the street then, and ask them if they found “Chow-Chow” racist or offensive. Then would do a panel on racism in the conservative party.
It may be time to stop having a state run television station if they can’t at least make a small effort to be impartial.

On another note, I know that Stephen Harper is in B.C. and made a couple of significant policy announcements, but i have yet to see any mention of that at all on CTV or CBC Newsworld.
