Mark Collins shared this not so uncommon gem in the comments section at Angry’s. The bottom paragraph comes close to Monty Python material;

Who can apply?
**Persons employed in the Public Service occupying a position in the National Capital Region who are members of visible minority groups. As an equal opportunity employer, Health Canada is committed to achieving a skilled, diversified workforce that reflects the diversity of the Canadian population. In support of developing a diverse workforce, this opportunity is open to those persons belonging to a visible minority group. The Employment Equity Act defines members of visible minority groups as follows: “persons other than aboriginal peoples, who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in colour”. Applicants must clearly self-identify as belonging to a visible minority group in their application…’
“Self-identify”? Clearly, that is a policy open to abuse!
In the automotive repair and refinishing industry, we have an easy solution for that!

Does being Irish make you a minority or disabled?
Didn’t you read the memo? No white guys aloud!!!
Imagine a country without all this racist BS! Oh yeah that was before the liberano’s ruined this country.
I’m reaaaalllly ugly…..does that count?
Does Michael Jackson qualify?
If I get a really good tan……?
Totally Pythonesque.
BTW, I find the job description rather curious, too! Funny how basically political staffers are being brought into the fold of the Public Service, and padi for by tax dollars!
FREE: Read it carefully–no white girls either. Equally-gendered discrimination.
Mark
Ottawa
or white gay people, or white transgendered people
lotta good people off the eligibility list . .
too bad, so sad . . but our betters know when a little bit of discrimination is good for us
Some days when riding the TTC here in Toronto it is us white guys that are in the minority, visibly so. If immigration continues at present levels, somehow I don’t think affirmative action will used to help us in the future.
I like their wording. They say who can apply without saying who cannot apply. They say that “this opportunity is open to those persons belonging to a visible minority group.” They even specify that visible minority group are “persons other than aboriginal peoples, who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in colour.” That does not specifically say that caucasians cannot apply. It does not say that it is closed to caucasians. Not legally anyway. It just does not specifically say that it is open to them. We just all know what it is supposed to mean — that white and aboriginal people need not apply. Then again, who is going to sue the government for not hiring the most qualified.
Reverse discrimination is still discrimination. When will majority rule?

The colour chart is a stroke of genius. I have to distribute it – but will give credit.
(I find it hard to believe I left Apartheid South Africa for this.)
The public sector is notorious for posting jobs with some pretty bizarre requirements. For instance CSIS has a current job opening a HEAD, ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE and appears to be having an extremely difficult time deciding what the citizenship requirements are to fill the position:

Where is my boot black when I need it!
I wanna be a visible minority.
Oh my son could apply, he is disabled with Type 1 insulin dependent diabetes. Oh but I am in error as Revenue Canada assured me his condition is not life threatening.
Rev Can also assured to qualify for the disability tax credit we need to demonstrate that “if treatment were withheld an organ or group of organs vital to sustain human life would fail.”
I guess if your dead, that might qualify as disabled. Then you won’t need the tax credit or the job.
How about a supreme court suit, to force the government to define the term “Caucasian”. I am unaware of any academic field which treats racial classifications such as this as anything other than historical fallacies, so I look forward to reading the results of the judges’ many months of fact-finding research and ethnological field studies.
I would also like to see them define “non-white in colour”, since I have never seen a white-skinned person before. How about we get a lineup of 100 colour gradations from Icelandic albino, through Greek, Arab, Malaysian, all the way to a dark-browned gal from deepest Africa, and then ask the learned judges to divide them up into “white” and “non-white”. Shave them bald and cover their eyes so the Worships can’t cheat. Then we take precise, colour-corrected digital images, and get the finest publishing company in Quebec to produce a hundred sets of colour chips. At the door of every government office we install the colour chips under flourescent lights, so that all current and prospective government employees can be measured. Just so that no one thinks that these rules are arbitrary and imprecise, you understand.
Sounds ridiculous? Well, don’t worry. In practice, the hiring quotas are usually evaded in the government. Simply put, they lie about the ethnic background and disabilities of the people they hire. So they’re not really racists after all – just lying hypocrites.
to paraphrase the stones
I see a white guy there and want to paint him black.
No pinkies anymore I want them to be black.
Maybe I’ll just fade away and not have to face the facts.
who want a snivel service job anyway unless your face is black.
I’m not very smart. Does this mean I qualify?
PM backs gun summit
Martin meets with black leaders from Toronto
`National crisis’ facing youth, activists warn
A coalition representing 25 community groups met Martin behind closed doors in his Langevin Block office for about an hour last night…
…The coalition members also spoke of the need for a community healing initiative and eventually setting up an economic and social development agency run by blacks for blacks…
…Sgro and Etobicoke-North MP Roy Cullen… attended the meeting and both agreed with the coalition’s conclusion that more money should be funnelled to groups that better understand the African-Canadian community’s problems.
But Deputy Conservative Leader Peter MacKay said the meeting was “all about pre-election optics” and predicted it would yield few results as federal parties gird for an election…

And to be fair, what about funneling more money to economic and social development agencies run by whites for whites?
I was turned down not long ago for a job at RDC (CBC’s french side) not for being anglophone, not for being completely bilingual, but for *not* being *solely* francophone (this according to the headhunter). This is standard fare for gov’t work.
