A post for the lurking (and not so lurking) lefties who are drawn here like moths to a bright light, offered in the genuine spirit of human compassion, for you know not what you have become.
Nick Cohen, on the ” inversion of principles” of his former comrades;
I’m sure that any halfway competent political philosopher could rip the assumptions of modern middle-class left-wingery apart. Why is it right to support a free market in sexual relationships but oppose free-market economics, for instance? But his criticisms would have little impact. It’s like a religion: the contradictions are obvious to outsiders but don’t disturb the faithful. You believe when you’re in its warm embrace. Alas, I’m out. Last week, after 44 years of regular church-going, the bell tolled, the book was closed and the candle was extinguished. I was excommunicated.
[…]
Auden noticed a retreat from universal principles in the 1930s – communism was fine in ‘semi-barbaric’ Russia but would have been a screaming outrage in a civilised country. He should have been alive today. With no socialism to provide international solidarity, good motives of tolerance and respect for other cultures have had the unintended consequence of leading a large part of post-modern liberal opinion into the position of 19th-century imperialists. It is presumptuous and oppressive to suggest that other cultures want the liberties we take for granted, their argument runs. So it may be, but believe that and the upshot is that democracy, feminism and human rights become good for whites but not for browns and brown-skinned people who contradict you are the tools of the neo-conservatives.
On the other hand when confronted with a movement of contemporary imperialism – Islamism wants an empire from the Philippines to Gibraltar – and which is tyrannical, homophobic, misogynist, racist and homicidal to boot, they feel it is valid because it is against Western culture. It expresses its feelings in a regrettably brutal manner perhaps, but that can’t hide its authenticity.

Via the “inexplicably popular” Wretchard who adds;
The hollowing out of the Left — the death of its Bolshevik core — is one of the great unwritten stories of the late twentieth century. The decline of the cadre of professional revolutionaries at its center was simultaneously matched by the inrush from the periphery of the network of sympathizers, fellow travelers and “useful fools” which it once adopted as protective coloration. It was a classic case of the inmates taking over an asylum from which the keepers had fled. … the freak show of autonomists, zapatistas, rage-against-the-machine cultists, transgender spokespersons, abortion rights activists, militant gay and lesbians and tattered academics that characterize today’s Left. … To experience any real militancy, today’s Left wing activists must attach themselves as pathetic dogs to Islamic causes like the International Solidarity Movement. There, they can indulge their fantasy of advancing world socialism while objectively dying for Osama Bin Laden or Yasser Arafat. The circle is complete. The roles have been reversed.
The heirs to moribund Bolshevism have now become the “useful fools”, the protective coloration of a dynamic militant Islamism.

The kind of communism you bash in your piece applies to about 4 people in Canada. On economic issues the right and left are not that far apart. Both believe in balanced budgets (Ralph Klein excpeted…he wants debt again. Where spending occurs is sharply divided ie. military vs social programs.
The big difference is in social policies. The conservatives between election promote anti-abortion laws and other government interefernce in people’s lives. The left is more freedom loving and democratic.
The destructive part of our country is the conservative movement. Wanting to return to the way things were in the 50’s is not attractive. Hopefully we can preserve healthcare and our education systemn from the CPC.
Nick Cohen’s article ends: “The thing to watch for with fellow travellers is what shocks them into pulling the emergency cord and jumping off the train. I know some will stay on to the terminus, and when the man with the rucksack explodes his bomb their dying words will be: ‘It’s not your fault. I blame Tony Blair.'”
The Canadian version:
“It’s not your fault. I blame General Hillier.”

Long live freedom and democracy.
The Hollowed-Out Left
Small Dead Animals brings together some interesting articles….
aa:
Thanks for the great laugh. You give proof to the Orwell quote: “There are some ideas so wrong that only a very intelligent person could believe in them.”
BTW, isn’t abotion an interference in the life of a child?
aa,
Oops, that’s A*B*O*R*T*I*O*N, in case you are one of ‘those’ spelling gurus:)
The first step is admitting you have a problem.
“My name is aa and i am an idiot….”
Did you read the article? Do you have a clue?
The left is more freedom loving and democratic.
Stop lying to yourself.
So far, one intelligent comment that no one has even tried to refute–just posting insults, as usual. Come on, guys, give us an argument! Then we can actually have a discussion here.
The Right is intellectually bankrupt, if this thread is anything to go by. On the other hand, maybe the bright Right is just somewhere else, and these are just the flies that “dead animals” attract.
Incidentally, I don’t agree with “aa.” I don’t know why he is fetishizing balanced budgets. Anyone here have a mortgage? An unpaid credit balance? Bunch of Bolsheviks! 🙂
I’d be more interested if you’d try to refute the articles posted. And contrary to the declaration that only “4 people” would qualify for the description given, I can think of a few well known ones – Carolyn Parrish, Svend Robinson, Gwynn Dyer, Neil McDonald…..
From the ultimate survivor of leftist mind fogging; David Horowitz:
“The so-called “peace movement” today is led by the same hate-America radicals who supported America’s totalitarian enemies during the Cold War. They marched in support of the Vietcong, the Sandinista Marxists and the Communist guerrillas in El Salvador. Before that they marched in behalf of Stalin and Mao.”
“A key to the mentality of the left is that it judges itself by its best intentions, and judges its opponents – America chief among them – by their worst deeds.”
“You see, the left isn’t forgiving or civil. Instead they are violently, feverently committed to their unholy war to tear down American democracy and replace it with their version – an Americanized version – of communism. ”
Eric Margolis, Antonia Zerbisias… c’mon people, that ought to prime the pump…
“So far, one intelligent comment”
Where? Certainly not aa’s drivel. Saying we’re all for interfering in people’s lives, returning to the 50s, and calling us destructive? That’s not intelligent, that’s as venomous as what aa and yourself would accuse us of. The only thing he said with a smidgen of respect was “both sides believe in balanced budgets” — and the left in Canada didn’t care about that until the right, through Reform, pushed so hard for it in the early 90s (and the Ontario NDP helped by showing just what a true socialist government in an industrialized region could really do to an economy).
I wouldn’t even give aa intelligence points for coming up with a clever troll.
Ed Broadbent, MP, Ottawa Centre.
Thanks from Mr. Ed to his supporters: the code word is “progressive”; followed by “challenge”.
Translation: Ed shall overcome the capitalists; we, I mean moi, will do this myself; moi shall build the communist utopia in Canada and beyond its borders. The future is ours. Onward, communist soldiers. Slay the capitalists; join with the Islamists; together, we shall overcome.
“During the election period, I promised, if elected, to be a strong and progressive voice in the House of Commons. I now look forward to taking up this challenge.”
Well, Dawg, I guess one man’s intelligent comment is a brown smear on the bottom of another man’s shoe. People don’t refute “aa” here because there is no point. Leftists are a case study in denial. They will never own up to their own legacy in the last century. Mass murders, starvation, the imprisonment of writers, philosophers, and scientists, confiscation of private property, the prohibition of free speech — these are the inevitable results when the left gets its way.
So number-one moth “aa” says “The left is more freedom loving and democratic”. What’s to discuss? If I believed that the sun sets in the east and rises in the west, and I went trolling for arguments at a NASA website, why would anyone bite?
Well, EBD, at least you aren’t arguing that a mixed bag including Gwyn Dyer, Eric Margolis, Carolyn Parrish and Svend Robinson stand for mass murder on an epic scale. So far, so good.
But you’re still homogenizing the Left, a common error on the part of conservatives (or rhetorical flourish, since I don’t really believe that the Right is composed entirely of people with IQs of 80 and no book larnin’). Hence the excesses of history are equated to a wide range of positive social measures such as medicare, abortion rights, a 40-hour week….
Someone here actually had the effrontery to quote Ed Broadbent, as though he’s Stalin in disguise. If people really can’t tell the difference, and go on to imagine that Gulags and mild social reforms are one and the same, then what can I possibly say in reasoned rebuttal? I feel like a mosquito in a nudist camp–I hardly know where to begin.
Tell you what. A Comments section in SDA ain’t the place to talk about this calmly. So I’ll analyze Cohen’s article in my next blog, and you’re welcome to comment.
Another point I would add is that the committment to balanced budgets is acheived through radically different means. Conservatives usually have the common sense to realize that lower taxes, expecially capital ones, lead to increased economic growth, job creation, and lots of other good things. Socialists, a la Layton, Calvert, Hargrove, tend to increase these taxes instead. Also, most conservatives, Ralph Klein excepted, tend towards limiting government spending.
Gulags and mild social reform are one and the same. I’d say you have just been hoisted by your own petard, Dr. Dawg.
“If I believed that the sun sets in the east and rises in the west, and I went trolling for arguments at a NASA website, why would anyone bite?”
Good point EBD. I’d like to see the trolls ignored, unless they actually come up with an intelligent comment. Maybe they would eventually tire and go away. These are the kinds of people that need attention.
aa is in fact correct, though probably for all the wrong reasons. The Left in Canada are not Communists at least in the way Marx and Engles would have intended.
They are something more akin to Orwells big brother. Not totalitarian perhaps but just as interested in telling everyone what they should think, what they should believe, what they should support and defining the questions that can not be asked.
You have to wonder why this country has not had a rational debate on the state of health care, considering the system has been corrupted by trying to fulfill a mandate (free medical care to all) that it was never intended to support, and has been falling apart for the last 20 years. Criticize the broken system though and you are painted as being Un-Canadian (A Liberal form of McCarthyism)
You have to wonder why a poll of Canadians revealed that only one province (Ontario) out 10 provinces and 3 territories, believes our federal government is serving its interests. Almost 50% of Quebecers and 39% of westerners support separation. Lets not forget just who caused this last spate of separation fever, the Liberals. Through corruption and graft and by insultingly try to buy the votes of proud Quebecers. Not to mention the arrogance of their belief that they could get away with it and the Canadian people would accept the lie that it was for the good of the country. Hows your unity building boondoggle working out now eh?
You have to wonder why the debates on SSM were curtailed and why none of them were televised. The slurs leveled at those who were strong enough in their beliefs to express their points of view were a damning example of the thought policing practiced by the left in government and the media. – – – Chomsky calls it flack, (sorry for turning the champion of the Liberal left media in the US against you). As for government interference in a persons life what about the teacher who wrote an opinion article to a newspaper, on his own time condemning SSM and was summarily fired for his freedom of speech. Thats Democracy in action for you.
You have to wonder why a government would retain 40-year-old helicopters (often used for search and rescue) because they were good enough, but the same government replaces executive jets half their age. – – – 45 incidents, 10 lives lost and counting.
You have to wonder why Politicians and our head of State (GG) while in Afghanistan were transported in American armoured Hummers but the Iltis was good enough for our Cpl Berrenfinger and Sgt Short. Yup, the Liberals really care about their people.
You have to wonder about a long gun registry that ensures the law abiding have registered their weapons but does nothing to prevent gun crime by criminals. – – – Two more people dead in Toronto and 20 shootings in the last week, but at least Ma and Pa down on the farm have registered their squirrel gun.
Democratic??? You have to wonder about a leader who promises to correct the democratic deficit and continues to ignore simple and straightforward solutions (Albertas elected senators), and continues to practice the nepotism which he raged against (appointing delegates in constituency ridings).
Take a good look at our society, at our nations place in the world community today, a really close look. We have gone from being the Dominion of Canada to the Peoples Democratic Republic of Canukistan on the Liberal mandate. That is the only legacy of Cretien and Martin, that and corruption.
“aa” wrote:
“The conservatives between election promote anti-abortion laws and other government interefernce in people’s lives.”
Aa, the claim you made wrt abortion is an absolute lie. You are simply believing what the leftists are telling you. In fact it’s party policy NOT to have any such legislation. Here’s the official party link to the policy wrt abortion, which states that
“58. Abortion Legislation
A Conservative Government will not support any legislation to regulate abortion.”
http://www.conservative.ca/EN/policy_declaration/j)_health/
And what do you mean by “interference”? We Conservatives want to REDUCE gov’t interference in people’s lives, actually! Where are you getting these false notions? From funny-looking people with purple hair and pretentiously fancy glasses and a pierced eyebrow? When have we ever formally stated we want to ban weird haircolorings, expensive glasses, piercings, tattoos or whatever? Yeesh! What kind of people do you think we are anyway? What have you been told to think of us? What have we ever actually done to you personally?
Here’s my rant for today … aa pissed me off.
To the snivelling lefties who dart in and outof this site with little to offer but their worn out dream of Gayia where raimbow colored people play ring around the rosie …. fully funded, protected by the force field of niceness.
Harry Browne (famous liberatarian) states “the most pervasive trap humans fall into is the identity trap, where they believe that others think and feel as they do.” That is the trap that misleads the left into thinking that if we extend our niceness to our enemies, they will catch on and be like us. It ain’t so!
Re balanced budgets …
I walk the walk.
I have a balanced budget, in fact I have a surplus. It didn’t happen overnight, nor did it come from the trough the lefties so love to dip their runny snouts into. My wife and I worked hard for many years, we didn’t buy anything on credit except our home which is now paid off. We have no inheritences coming and we are feverishly self-reliant.
In a country with a phantom health care system, we choose to stay as healthy a possible through diet and exercise. We hope that there will be private quiality care before we get too old.
When I see the characters of the left spouting their hypocracy, telling me how I should live and who I should support … namely the so-called less fortunate, the cripples, the drug addicts, the special needs children, the African sink hole, the UN, fat hairy men-hating women who need to get married, Gays who can’t wait to gyrate their gonads in your face on parade, abortion as birth contol, idotic self-absorbed politicians who don’t really want to govern, (that’s far too responsible) but rather take their their no-talent show on the road for the notoriety and trough access … I could go on.
Liberalism is a failed experiment that only occurs after conservative people have created the wealth for the theiving left to squander. Their effort to control everything and every one can’t be done. Most people I have met in my life can’t even control themselves.
It’s not difficult to live right. See how useful that word is Right .. right on … rights … it’s a positive word .. it’s the opposite of Left .. left out … left his wife … left over .. mmm negative stuff.
Learn to balance your own cheque book, learn to eat properly, pay your bills on time, stay out of debt, stop believing what you hear without thinking it through and maybe do a bit of research. And mostly, stop trying to get the government to solve problems .. they create them not solve them.
Stand on your own two feet, be your own man/woman And mostly try to imagine where an idea actually leads …. if you can learn to think think it through to a logical conclusion. If you learn to do this, you will eventually come around to accepting the adult world of right thinking people. You know … the ones that take responsibilty seriously and don’t blame everything on someone else. In short, if you can ever manage to grow up, you will be conservative.
Conservation is the key to not needing anything from others. Then your government will not have so much control over you. In fact no one will … that’s called FREEDOM! That my darling is the right way to live.
Sorry for the long windedness here Kate. I just had to get of off.
“aa” also said:
“The destructive part of our country is the conservative movement.”
Are you insane?! What hole in the ground have you been hiding inside since ’93 when the socialist-fascist Libranos seized power and proceeded to turn Canada into a divided, balkanized, economically flatlined, health-care disaster, no national security, no law enforcement, no democracy kleptocracy?
We conservatives are just ordinary people who want to fix all the damage the totalitarian Librano crooks have wrought, while all the while laughing all the way to their banks with our hard-earned-and earmarked-for-health-and-security dollars. We are the underdogs, actually. Why can’t you see that? Aren’t you open-minded? Aren’t you tolerant of a diversity of viewpoints and creeds? You’re supposed to be.
Just to clarify, Dawg, I WAS arguing that Margolis, Svent et al stand for mass murder on an epic scale. Not they are not in favor of those things, of course, just that their ideas, taken to conclusion, will lead to such outcomes.
It’s a fact of life that here will always be a life-and-death disagreement between the Central Planning crowd and those who believe in freedom. Leftists are in denial about their legacy; fortunately, the rest of us aren’t.
Politicians are the useful fools of the bureaucrats and have been for a very long time. Unelected, powerful and long term tenured…is there any other group in Canada besides court justices that wield as much power to make social policy changes? It’s a group well versed in slowly increasing the water to a boil…but that’s o.k. for now because the groggy froggy Canadian public likes hot tubs. We might not like what we’ll be turned into if we don’t jump out (bureaucrats, socialists by definition, love boiled frog legs).
Duke, that’s the post I wish I had written. Bravo.
Yeah, good one, Duke. Here’s to ya’.
Ok, Dawg, you mutt, I caught you illegally crappin’ on Kate’s front lawn! You said:
“Well, EBD, at least you aren’t arguing that a mixed bag including Gwyn Dyer, Eric Margolis, Carolyn Parrish and Svend Robinson stand for mass murder on an epic scale. So far, so good.”
Well, don’t those people support communists, dictators and terrorists, like Fidel Castro and the Khadrs et al? Have you even been listening to those people?
I guess this may be too hard to understand for someone who drinks from the toilet, craps anywhere, anytime, in front of whomever, licks his winky constantly, smells everybody’s bum, pees on everything in sight, eats off the floor, humps other species’ legs, fears vacuum cleaners and chases his own tail. Oh, well, that’s ok, boy; at least you’re furry and cute. Here’s a frisbee, boy; get it!
aa,
Fellow travellers are notable because they lack realization of their condition, but then you already don’t know that.
There are a lot more than 4 Marxist-Leninists in Canada. There’s ten times that number serving as MPs.
Stephen, you surprise me. Summer heat can help cause road rage, but blog rage?
It’s comical though, and good entertainment.
So there were the crunching sounds from under EDB’s boot heel as he ground aa into the dirt.
aa, you are entitled to your opinion, but you gotta get with it. Labels like Socialist, Liberal and Conservative no longer apply in the simplistic sense of black versus white in these modern times.
Left leans right to center and Conservative leans somwhat left towards center and everyone is trying to be more moderate.
Interesting times ahead. This thread was fun but it’s just too hot outside to seriously advance the debate. Time for another Hiedelberg….mmmmm 73s TG
Duke, I wish to say to you: BRAVO! I couldn’t have said it better! In fact, you have inspired me and reminded me of what’s really important, which is self-reliance. Now more than ever, we must rely on, not gov’t, but ourselves, first of all.
Congratulations on paying off your debts! For me, it’s still a way off, but I’ll get there for sure. I know I’ll be much better off not being shackled with those huge monthly payments all the time. It’ll be even better than any tax cut the Libranos could muster! Yah! I’m going to take the old student loans and Visa balance, pay ’em off and shove the core of ’em right up Paul Martin’s a…
As for the lefties, I keep hearing they go bankrupt… sometimes more than once! That says a lot for their intelligence wrt living in the real world. Are you listening, Dawggie boy? Didya get the frisbee?
Duke,
Take a bow. I’ve been trying to teach my seventeen year old these concepts in my own inarticulate way. You have clarified a few points me. She’s off to Toronto to make or break herself.
Amen to Duke at 6:51. We are in a position to help, and we often do. 73s TG
Tony G. said: “It’s comical though, and good entertainment.”
Thanks, Tony. I thought what I was thinking was funny, too, so I let my fingers relay the humor to fellow readers. The hilarious images of Dr. Dawg doing those gross doggie things were too irresistable to hide from the world.
Just because we’re conservative doesn’t mean we have to be tight-assed, humorless blobs, right? (Hat Tip to Scott Adams for the “humorless blobs” concept).
BTW, it’s sweltering here in Saint John, too. It’s still 23 deg at nearly 9 pm. Hope I’ll sleep tonite, or tomorrow I may regress back into that weird all-caps stuff about stinking moonbats and supreme overlords and all that crap again! Luckily the fog’s supposed to envelope this little burg by the sea, so it’ll cool quite a bit. Tomorrow’s a nervous day, as I take my car in for inspection. Scary, ain’t it?
Libby Davies, MP, NDP, Vancouver East.
Code words: “lifelong fight”; “social justice; “equality”.
She tells us she is a martyr for the communist cause from day one;she advocates coercion of the masses to the tenets of communism, or death;her goals include the levelling of all people to become slaves to the communist system. See : Pol Pot, Castro, Mao, Stalin, & etc. ***********
Libby has been an outspoken advocate for drug policy reforms to stop the criminalization of drug users and the harm caused by Canada’s prohibitionist policies. Libby has received awards from organizations such as the Vancouver and District Labour Council and the YMCA who have acknowledged her lifelong fight for social justice and equality.
Born in 1953 in England, Libby came to Canada in 1968. She moved to Vancouver in 1969 and has one son, Lief Eriksen. She lives with her partner, Kimberly Elliott. [Libby’s website].
Everybody: Dr. Dawg, with whom I disagree almost all the time, is still not stupid. There is no point in responding to him with abuse and vile language. An argument may not be won, at least the first (or second, or third…time) but it should be rational.
Conservatives in Canada are frustrated, and rightfully so especially given the bias of the media. But that is no occasion to rant rather than reason. Instead be snide, clever, ironic or factual.
Otherwise one just gives the lefties examples to quote back to audiences gleeful to condemn conservatives. Let the rabble confine themselves to Rabble.ca.
Up the intelligent counter-revolution–or restoration, or, indeed, “Glorious Revolution” (1688); and I think Kate sets a good example.

Her son’s name is Lief Eriksen? That’s the same name as one of the Vikings who discovered Newfoundland long before Columbus discovered N.A. Hell, she could’ve named him Vladimir Lenin, for all her avowed Bolshevism.
And the MSM would rather demonize Preston Manning, Stockwell Day and Stephen Harper? Boy, is the MSM dense, or what? We someday gotta take over the media and turn it into a fair and balanced factual news industry, ending the leftist propaganda we’ve been force-fed since the birth of the CBC.
Mark Collins is right. Let’s be careful of stepping in Dawg’s little brown traps. He’s clever, if frequently wrong. Let’s not give the left ammunition. But who but the left is going to bother with sites like the Rabble? The average person couldn’t be bothered to read blogs; few even know what one actually is- I have checked.
Stephen McAllister: Nonetheless the walls and the lefties have ears (and computers). Hit hard but with intellect and fact and example. Bad language cannot properly represent good thought. So far the lefties get away with both bad language and bad thought. Let us be better on both counts, and that might eventually be noticed.
Fuck frustration, if I may be pardonned for a singular use.

Pardon me for saying so, but this is one of the best threads I’ve read in web log comments for a while. Thanks to Kate, EBD, Zip, & Duke.
One thing caught my eye in particular was where Zip noted that “The Left in Canada are not Communists at least in the way Marx and Engles would have intended. They are something more akin to Orwells big brother. Not totalitarian perhaps but just as interested in telling everyone what they should think, what they should believe, what they should support and defining the questions that can not be asked.”
I think that is very important, so at the risk of quote abuse, I’d like to recall that Vaclav Klaus, President of the right-of-center Civic Democrat party in the Czech republic said, in November 2003, “They are still in the dream world of welfare, long vacations, guaranteed high pensions, and cradle-to-grave social security, and which obviates the imperative need to face reality.” The biggest challenge for the Czech republic, Klaus said, is how to avoid falling into the trap of “a new form of collectivism.” Asked whether he meant a new form of neo-Marxism, he said, “absolutely not, but I see other sectors endangering free societies. The enemies of free societies today are those who want to burden us down again with layer upon layer of regulations,” president Klaus explained. “We had that in Communist times.”
Yes, and thankyou all for staying on topic.
For a change.
That’s a hint, by the way.
Statist aparatchiki would have us believe that all would be quiet if we just followed their prescribed rules & regulations. Sure it would. In the same sense that John Wayne meant when he said, It’s quiet out here, too quiet.
Thank goodness for us pamphleteering ants. Without us, the elitist grasshoppers would surely eat our seed corn until it was deathly quiet out here.
Jack Layton, MP, NDP, Toronto-Danforth. Quote:
Fri 1 Jul 2005
Families, friends, and neighbours in communities from St. Johns to Vancouver to Iqaluit will gather today to celebrate the 138th Birthday of Canada.
But today is about more than our country growing one year older. Canada Day is an opportunity to celebrate the values of tolerance, social justice, and diversityCanadian values that helped to build this country into one of the greatest places on earth to call home.>>> [Website].
Code words: “tolerance”; “social justice”. Only the tolerance we allow; a communist regime.
“BTW, isn’t abotion an interference in the life of a child?”
Isn’t pregnancy an interference in the life of an adult?
Those silly leftists. If only they supported free markets with all the fervour and vigour of Conservatives. Just check out our party platform on the issue! You’ll find there is no more hollow endorsement of free trade anywhere.
Abortion ends the life of a child. Pregancy is giving life to a child. Anybody so self-absorbed so as to articulate the statement that pregnacy is an interference in the life of an adult should go on back to rabble. Pregancy should be the result of a committment between two adults. People who aren’t prepared to make that committment should at least make a better committment to birth control.
The Left is bereft, devoid of imagination, sad and pitifull. Proof of this is rampant. What arguements do they bring to any debate. Here in Canada it is deamed “American” to think in anyway contrary to the Liberal faith. Positively heretical to imagine any other ethos opposed to the Liberal hegmony. In a country which propounds the virtues of tolerance and divesity – claims it is the makings of the Canadian Identity – thinking like mine, and others here, is considered blasphemous. Damn it I want tolerance for my diverse opinions!
What really bothers me is that conservative thought is looked upon as unfasionable. If fasionable is the new, the exciting, the diferent, why has conservative thought been relegated to the fringes in this country. Shouldn’t the young – the inquisitive and free thinking young – in this land look to the fringes, the non-mainstream for inspiration. The article offered for discusion is proof in point. An apostate airing dirty laundry, with the bravery of a Martin Luther.
Is it my imagination, or have more of these “conversions” come about after 9/11?
Poor Sean doesn’t understand how it works. If his parents felt the way he does there would be no Sean. I wonder what our world would have been like without this soul. Grow up boy.
I understand how it works well enough to have produced a pre-schooler. I just couldn’t pass up an opportunity to tweak Anselm. Prickly people are so much fun. 😉
This has been a fascinating read – excellent points zip, EBD, Kate, Mark… etc etc.
But I’m curious about one thing, Dr. Dawg – You’ve been hanging here and at Angry’s site a lot lately. Is that because it’s starting to make sense, or are you desperate for intelligent debate?
